[Time skip: 5 days later]
I finally saw Lam in school on Monday. During the last 5 days, I had conscientiously called him everyday to check up on him, dropped off food for him from my dad and he went over to spend some time at my dad’s place too.
He was in the canteen about to have lunch with Park and Forth when he saw me. He nodded his head at me and shot a quick smile before anyone saw. I just smiled to myself and looked away, catching Arthit’s eyes in the process.
“So, what’s going on between you two?”
“Hmm, nothing really? But we are definitely friends now.”
“Friends only?”
I nodded. “Then what was that drama I heard about from your dad over the boyfriend tag?”
I filled Arthit in on what happened and why I had to do it. He looked at me quizzically but didn’t say another word.
“If you say so..”
I just rolled my eyes at him, and he chuckled. We went to our usual table to sit down. I was pondering lunch options when the auntie from the Rice shop brought over a plate of spicy chicken thai basil for me with an extra egg on top. I looked at her in surprise.
She just smiled at me and pointed towards Lam, who was gathering his bag and about to leave while on the phone. I looked at the table, and his lunch was half eaten. I texted him to thank him and asked why he left in such a hurry.
A few minutes later, a message pinged in. “I forgot I had an assignment to submit P, so I had to rush off! It’s ok, I will just eat later. Please enjoy lunch.”
I just chuckled to myself and was about to dig in when Arthit shot me a look. I side eyed him before going back to my food. The week passed by quickly, and soon it was the weekend. Since I hadn’t seen my dad the whole week, I decided to go see him.
I reached home around 2pm and saw Lam’s shoes outside with another pair of shoes. That definitely wasn’t my dad’s! Whose was it then?
I went in, only to find my dad, Lam and the barista from the cafe near my dad’s condo happily chatting. My dad and the guy were chatting but Lam was just quiet.
“Hey..when did you come?” I asked, my question directed towards Lam.
“I came 2 hours ago P. I met up with Uncle at the cafe and since P Nut was done with his shift, Uncle invited him over too.”
I nodded, my attention finally shifting to P Nut who stood up, greeting me warmly with a handshake.
“Hi Kong, I’m Nut.. I ..haha. your dad..”
I just nodded my head, welcoming him warmly. I just told them I wanted to speak to my dad for a bit privately and dragged him to the kitchen.
“Pa!!! What’s this about?!”
“What? I just wanted to introduce the boy to you.”
I groaned inwardly. “But..why..I don’t want to know him.. you can’t do this.. not especially in front of Lam.”
My father looked at me quizzically.
“Why can’t I do this in front of Lam? He’s aware about this boy. And you guys aren’t dating or something right?”
I nodded, agreeing to everything he said. I just sighed. I didn’t feel the need to know someone new. And worse, it was happening in front of Lam.
My dad went back, cheerily talking to both boys. I watched from the kitchen as they got into conversation, but my eyes were on Lam only.
