2 In 1; In Unity & More [Completed] Lam

Once we were done with dinner, I offered to wash up. Kong wanted to take over from his dad but was chased away.

“I don’t like him doing any work when he comes here. He works so hard as it is in school, at Sotus, and giving part-time tuition plus helping me with collateral materials for my business. So it’s always a running joke that Kong is King when he comes home.” Kong’s dad told me as we washed the dishes and dried them off.

I nodded, listening quietly. I didn’t realize Kong did so much and also looked after his dad so well. It made me even more regretful of my words back then.

“What do you work as, Uncle?”

“I run my own business, boy. I started it years ago when I got to know Kong’s mum. And I kept it running even after she passed away, in memory of her.”

“I see. If there is any help you need, you can always also ask me too.”

“Thank you. That’s very nice of you. I told you, my Kong has an eye for people. He really picks his friends carefully. He’s told me a lot about you, too. So I am glad you came today as it also allowed me to get to know you better.”

“P Kong speaks about me…? Oh..I wonder.. what, because I can’t say we have been on the best of terms recently.”

Kong’s dad laughed. “You are right. He did tell me about how you had scolded him. But I did tell him you had a point and especially when you don’t know what’s happening. Plus, everyone has a different perspective of family. I can’t blame you. You been through such. But he also told me despite the bad temper, you are one of the most loyal and dependable guys in Sotus other than Forth and Park and he’s really glad the team will be in good hands once he and Arthit graduate next year.”

I kept quiet, letting his words sink in. I didn’t realize P Kong had held me in such high regard too.

“Don’t feel too bad about whatever happened previously. Maybe the tone of voice was not right but the message was not wrong and Kong realizes that too. I also keep telling him he can’t be spending so much time on me all the time too. His future partner may not even like it. But that boy of mine, he has me in his heart all the time, he doesn’t seem to make room for anyone else. I only can pray if he does like someone, they have enough heart to hold his in place knowingly and willingly.”

I just smiled, at these words. We dried off everything and went to the living room, where we both almost burst out laughing. The TV was on, the movie was running but Kong was fast asleep, knocked out completely! I looked at Uncle, saying I would go home first and to let Kong stay over.

He looked at me thoughtfully and told me to stay over too, and to just take Kong’s room for the night.

“Knowing my boy, he wouldn’t stir from that spot and can sleep through almost anything. You can take his room for the night. Both of you can leave tomorrow after breakfast. So that it gives you time to prep for school on Monday.”

I nodded. Uncle gave me a new set of towel and toiletries and told me to just help myself to Kong’s clothes in his room, figuring it should roughly fit me.

I took a shower, changed into some clothes and was just looking around at Kong’s room when I heard him.

“Hey..”

I turned to see him, standing at the entrance of the room, looking mighty sleepy.

“Hey, you are awake! Uncle said you will sleep through and told me to sleep over in your room. Since you are here, you sleep here. I sleep in the hall.”

“Na. It’s. I only came to take a blanket because I am cold. You can just sleep here. You are the guest moreover.”

Before I could say anything else, Kong grabbed his blanket from the cupboard and trotted off. I just smiled seeing how fucking polite this guy is. He’s really miles different from me!

I laid in bed, just pondering over how today had been and realized it’s been by far, one of my most meaningful and fun days in a long while.

I could see this becoming a routine, spending time with Uncle and Kong. I may have given him the shorter end of the stick thus far.
