Chapter 12
Ian Marc Bernard
He was on a mission.
A mission to find out about the life of Ian Marc Bernard. Which was hard because it’s like he never left any personal trace in the world.
He hasn’t been in Ian’s room for a while now, he’s opted to sleeping beside Wenduo or Chenyi these days.
He searched through Ian’s things once more. He only came across the usual things you’d find in the bedroom (also, why was his room so orderly?) and the only thing worthy of interest was the abnormal amount of things related to fashion around the room.
He was about to give up when he found a shoe box in the corner bottom of the closet.
He swiftly took it out before settling it on the bed.
He doesn’t know why but he feels a little nervous about the shoe box.
He took a deep breath before opening it.
It was a series of records of Ian’s visit to a psychologist and psychiatrist.
His eyes widened before he was grabbing the records and reading them one by one.
The reports and records were written down with many details. He flipped to the one for their first session.
Ian was taken there by their butler instead of his parents. The butler himself was permitted to answer any of the questions asked.
He told about his little master’s habits of keeping things orderly and preferring to have some sort of routine of things like having pancakes every Monday. And he had always been a lonely child. The butler thought it was because of his parents’ rule of never letting him play with other children and keeping him homeschooled. But later on, he realized that Ian wouldn’t even hold eye contact with the maids or butlers of their household instead he would keep looking to the ground. He had difficulty keeping up a conversation whenever one of them tried, and it would eventually turn into awkward silence after the first few seconds. Ian used to have a habit of tapping whatever he is holding on all sorts of surface, which the Bernards scolded him for repeatedly saying it was annoying until eventually the maids and butlers helped him stop it in fear of the scolding getting too far.
As the years passed and as Ian grew up, he became more and more antisocial and would instead be in his room studying up on fashion since his parents’ business were related to it. And all the maids and butlers would admit that he was very good at anything related to fashion. And that was all it took to capture his parents’ attention and make him a part of their business.
The habits that popped up in his childhood never stopped. The butler admitted that he suspected Ian may have had autism spectrum disorder. But it had never been diagnosed… until that moment.
By the end of the report, tears were streaming down Ian’s face.
Autism. Ian had autism spectrum disorder and his parents didn’t even know. Instead they never cared or took care of him, only even giving him the slightest of attention because of his skills in fashion. And in the end he was practically sold to be a child-bearer.
The report dropped to the floor as he hiccuped and sobbed on the bed, bringing his hands to his face to desperately quiet down his cries.
“Mommy?” the door creaked as Wenduo peaked in, his little face twinged with concern.
“Wait there, Mommy! Daddy can help!” the little bun desperately ran to his Daddy.
Wenduo knocked loudly and rapidly on his dad’s door until it opened, “Daddy! Mommy’s crying in his room!”
Chenyi immediately dropped his paperwork on his table before following the boy who ran as fast as he could back to his Mommy.
When he opened the door, his husband was on the bed curled up hiccuping sobs as he cried so harshly that his face turned red.
He immediately rushed to his side and brought him to his arms.
“Shh, shh… what’s wrong, dear?” he whispered softly as Wenduo climbed up the bed and hugged his Mommy too.
All he did was mumble words that Chenyi couldn’t completely make out.
“Ian…” “Autism…” “Neglected…”
