It was a new morning as Ian got up to make some French toast for his small family.
He and Chenyi had been getting along better these past days. No more was the silent disgust and hatred or the cold indifference. They got along better, not as good as a married couple should be (Well, from what he knows of that is. He doesn’t really have many married couples as examples having not married anyone and only ever seeing his parents a couple of times in his previous life), but better nonetheless.
Once he finished cooking and set up all the food on a plate, a maid came up to him, “Umm, excuse me Master Ian. Mister Ethan is at the door, he’s here to see Master Chenyi.”
Ian turned to her, confusion in his mind. Is he supposed to know who Ethan is? Had Ian met him before perhaps? He shook away his thoughts and nodded, “Let him sit by the living room and give him some coffee or tea. I’ll go get Chenyi.”
The maid nodded and turned to do as she was told. Ian sighed before putting the plate stacked with French toast on the table and went to Chenyi’s room. He knocked on the door.
“What is it?”, came his husband’s voice from behind the door.
“Someone’s here to see you. I had the maid take them to wait in the living room.” he answered softly.
The door opened to reveal Chenyi, already dressed for work whose gaze softened once he settled on Ian’s pajama-clad figure and soft messy hair.
He pet his hair, “Alright, I’ll handle it. Why don’t you go and wake Wenduo up?”
Ian smiled and nodded before hurrying off to his cute son. Chenyi chuckled at his husband’s delight in their son before striding towards the living room knowing full well of who would be the only person who would come to his home at this hour of the day.
“Duo’er?” Ian called softly and opened the door to his son’s bedroom.
“Mommy?” came the sleepy reply of his baby boy.
“Hi baby, good morning. It’s time for breakfast.” he said softly coming to his son’s bedside and ruffled his hair.
Wenduo whined before reaching out, wanting his mommy to carry him to the table.
Ian laughed before taking his son and settling him on his hip with his small head tucked to his neck.
He walked softly and carefully to the dining room, making sure not to rustle his son too much.
Walking in, he sees Chenyi on the table with the plate of French toasts he prepared for him talking to a brown-haired, blue-eyed man beside him talking animatedly. He seemed to have been here before since the servants didn’t seem too surprised. Perhaps it’s his first visit in a while since before Chenyi got married.
The man turned to him once he walked in and his mouth widened into a grin.
“Chenyi! Is this your little husband? Aww, your son is so cute!”
Ian’s eyes widened a little, nervousness evident in his expression as he shifted Wenduo ever so slightly who whined and rubbed his eyes.
Chenyi sighed, “Ethan, how do you always have so much energy in the morning?”
Ethan chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck, “Hehe, sorry… I’m just excited, okay! You told me you got married years ago but you’ve never let me visit and see you guys!!!”
Chenyi shook his head before gesturing for Ian to sit down beside him where two other plates of French toasts were settled.
Ian gently shook Wenduo awake and settled the sleepy boy who yawned a little on the seat beside him while he sat next to Chenyi.
“C’mon baby, if you don’t wake up you won’t be having any French toast.” he told the boy softly.
This made the little boy perked up and clumsily held his knife and fork before digging in.
Ethan laughed at the little boy before ruffling his hair making him look up from his French toast to blink sleepily at him.
“Ian, this is Ethan. A business partner. Ethan, this is my husband Ian and our son Wenduo.” Chenyi introduced.
Ethan gasped, feeling offended, “Business partner? Chenyi were the years we spent since high school nothing but lies?!”
Ian snorted and ducked his head down to avoid the narrowing eyes of Chenyi who slapped Ethan behind the head. The interactions between the two were very amusing.
Ethan laughed again before reaching out to put his arm around his shoulder, “Aw c’mon Chenyi! Is that how you treat your best friend?”
Chenyi rolled his eyes making Ethan pout childishly.
Wenduo giggled before shoving a piece of French toast into his mouth, “He’s funny.”
Ethan wiggled his eyebrows, “Why thank you kind sir!” he said in a posh-British accent making Ian and Wenduo giggle.
Chenyi glared at his best friend before rolling his eyes once more.
Ethan guffawed before raising his hands in surrender, “Woah woah woah! I’m not trying to steal your family Chenyi!” he then wiggled his eyebrows again with a shit-eating grin, “Not my fault I’m so charming.”
Before Chenyi could answer a soft voice with a hint of sass from beside him sounded out, “No, you just have a funny face. Makes me want to laugh.”
This time Chenyi snorted as Ethan gasped. Little Wenduo burst into a fit of giggles and waved his forked-French toast around, getting syrup on his cheek and shirt.
