“This is Sasuke, arrived at point B”.
“This is Sakura, arrived at point C”.
“This is Akashi, arrived at point D”.
…
…
“This is Naruto, arrived at point A”.
“You’re slow, Naruto”. Kakashi lectured through the mic.
“Okay, 7th unit… the target has moved, after it!”. Kakashi whispered into the mic. Akashi was standing atop a tree branch, following the feline with his eyes. The other three sneaked up closer. “What’s the distance?” Kakashi asked. Naruto peeked behind the tree. “Five meters, I’m ready to go”. “I am too”, “Me, too”. Sasuke and Sakura added.
“Okay… go!” Kakashi commanded. The three of them jumped out of their hiding spots and Akashi descended from the tree. Naruto dashed at the cat and grabbed it by its sides. “I got you!” He yelled. The cat started scratching and hissing at him and he fell down. “Confirm target? Ribbon on its right ear?” Kakashi asked through the mic. Akashi reached to his ear. “Affirmative”. And turned to the struggling Naruto on the ground. “Naruto, give me the poor cat”.
Hearing his brother, Naruto jumped to his feet and threw the cat in Akashi’s arms. Once it was in his arms, the cat immediately settled down and started purring. “Huh?!” Naruto pointed an accusing finger at Akashi. “No fair! How come it likes you, but not me?!” Akashi let out a sigh and trailed his finger down the cat’s spine. The cat let out a mewl and sprawled in his arms. “This is why”. Akashi nodded towards the cat.

They returned to the Hokage Tower and gave the cat back to its owner. The lady immediately started rubbing her face onto the cat. “I was so worried about you, Tora-chan!” She then continued to squish the cat. Akashi grimaced at the sight. No wonder the cat escaped from her… poor creature. The Hokage cleared his throat. “Now… Team 7’s next mission is… babysitting, grocery shopping, digging potatoes at-“. He was interrupted by Naruto who jumped in front of him, crossing his arms in an x.
“No! No thanks to all of those! I want a more exciting mission!” He stubbornly declined everything. A tick mark appeared on Akashi’s forehead. This idiot! Naruto, sensing danger behind him, slowly turned around. Akashi was standing with his clenched fist in the air. “Na-ru-to!” He pronounced every syllable through gritted teeth. Naruto shivered and took a step back. “A-Akashi, listen!” He tried to calm him down, but it was no use.
Akashi walked over to a frozen Naruto and slapped him on the back of the head. “You idiot! Don’t interrupt people!” He yelled while tapping his foot on the ground. From behind them Kakashi sweatdropped. He’s exactly like Kushina, but it seems he has Minato’s smarts.
Iruka slammed his hands on the table. “You’re still a novice ninja, you need experience first!” He lectured Naruto. “B-But-“. Naruto was once again slapped on the back of the head. “Naruto!” Akashi yelled at him. “Cut it out”. Kakashi added. The Hokage then proceeded to explain how mission rankings work to Naruto. He said that they are separated into ranks by their difficulties. D is the lowest and A is the highest. He also said that people are separated into ranks according to their abilities. Genin being the lowest and Jounin being the highest. Naruto still argued with him and the Hokage gave up.
“Okay, I understand”. The Hokage said. This seemed to catch everyone’s attention. Akashi narrowed his eyes and looked at the Hokage. What is he planning? “If you insist, I will give you a C rank mission… it’s to escort a certain person”. He clarified. An escort mission? Akashi shifted on his feet, clenching his hands. “Really?! Who, who?!” Naruto excitedly asked, turning to the Hokage. The Hokage called someone inside. In walked a scrawny-looking older man with an alcohol bottle.
I can smell his breath from here. Akashi made a sour face and stepped away, behind Kakashi. “Huh? They are all kids!” The man exclaimed and took a swing of the bottle. “Hey, is the smallest one with the idiotic face really a ninja?” He asked. Naruto started laughing. “Who’s the smallest one with the idiotic face?” Sasuke, Sakura and Akashi stepped next to him. Sasuke being the tallest, then Akashi, then Sakura and… Naruto was the shortest.
Naruto then blew a fuse and started threatening the man. “I will kill you!” Kakashi grabbed him by the collar and picked him up. “Don’t threaten to kill the man you’re supposed to escort!”.
Akashi glared at the man, making him flinch. “Hey! You little kid! Why are you glaring at me!” The man pointed a wobbly finger in Akashi’s direction. “I don’t take kindly to strangers who say my brother has an idiotic face… you drunk”. Akashi sneered the words at the man. The man’s eyes widened and he took a step forward. “Why you lit-“. He was interrupted by the Hokage who said he should introduce himself.
The man shook his head. “I am the bridge building expert Tazuna, when I return to my country, I will have all of you protect my life with yours while I finish the bridge”. He declared.
The six of them then left the village.
_
Sakura started asking Tazuna questions about his country. Akashi was walking with Naruto, a few steps ahead of the other four. Kakashi started explaining how there are no ninjas in Tazuna’s country and how they shouldn’t worry, because they won’t run into any ninja on this mission.
They walked over a small bridge and Akashi sensed an unfamiliar chakra signal. What? He hurriedly looked around and saw a puddle in front of them. A puddle? It hasn’t rained in days… His eyes widen and he looked at Kakashi. Kakashi was already looking at him. Once their eyes met, Kakashi nodded and continued walking. I need to be careful, something is not right. Akashi followed him.
They passed the puddle and didn’t pay it any mind.
A moment later, two ninjas appeared and wrapped their chains around Kakashi. The rest of them froze. Akashi pulled out a dagger and threw it at one of the ninja, but he was too late. The ninjas pulled their chains and ripped Kakashi to pieces. Akashi was about to yell, but he sensed Kakashi’s chakra in a nearby bush. He got away.
The two ninjas appeared behind Naruto, but just as they were about to hit him with their chains, Akashi and Sasuke jumped at them. Sasuke threw a shuriken and pinned the chain to a nearby tree and Akashi threw a dagger and secured the chain. The ninjas tried to pull the chains, but were unable to. Sasuke and Akashi then dashed at the bind ninjas. Sasuke managed to hit them, but they let go of of the chains and split up, one going towards Tazuna and Sakura and one going towards Naruto.
Akashi froze for a split second, before dashing at the ninja closer to Naruto. Dammit! Just as the ninja was about to hit Naruto, Akashi threw a dagger and it hit the ninja in the wrist, effectively stopping the hit. The ninja jumped back and lunged at Akashi with his other hand. Akashi crouched down and the ninjas hit went over his head. Akashi then stood up, grabbed the ninja around the neck, placed a foot behind the ninjas foot and pushed forward.
The ninja started falling down, but, using his superior strength, he pulled Akashi under him. They both fell onto the ground and the ninja immediately grabbed a dagger and brought it down on top of Akashi. Out of sheer panic, Akashi grabbed a dagger from his side with both hands and thrust it upwards. The moment he felt the ninja’s dagger cut his cheek and impale the ground beside his head was the moment he felt warm liquid slide down his hands.
Eyes wide open, Akashi looked at his hands and what he saw made his blood run cold. The dagger which was in his hands was impaling the ninja to the hilt, dark, warm liquid sliding down it onto his hands. After a few moments, the ninja was ripped off of him and thrown to the ground. “Akashi!” He heard Kakashi’s voice above him and he was pulled to his feet. “Are you hurt?” Kakashi asked him, but he was unable to answer, his eyes glued to the unmoving man on the ground. Whose eyes were still open.
“Akashi! Snap out of it!” Kakashi yelled and shook him by the shoulders. This seemed to break him out of his thoughts and his wide eyes looked at Kakashi. “Sensei”. He whispered. “Are you hurt?” Kakashi repeated the question. Akashi shook his head and shrugged Kakashi’s hands off of his shoulders. He took a step back and breathed in. Calm down. Calm down. Calm down. He took deep breath and exhaled. “I’m fine”. He answered, his tone flat. Kakashi’s eye narrowed in suspicion. This boy…
Shaking his head, Kakashi turned to the ninjas on the floor. One was knocked out and the other was dead. It seems like he accidentally killed one, I will need to talk with him. Grabbing the knocked out one, he turned to Naruto. “Naruto, I’m sorry I got you hurt, I didn’t think you would freeze up like that”. He then walked over to where Sasuke, Sakura and Tazuna were standing. “Anyways, good job, Sasuke, you too Sakura”. He turned around and faced Akashi. “Akashi, good job”. Akashi didn’t acknowledge him and walked over to Naruto.
Sasuke turned to Naruto. “Are you hurt… Mr. Scaredy Cat?” He mocked Naruto. Akashi, who was next to Naruto and was inspecting his hand, looked at Sasuke. “Sasuke”. He called out. “Knock it off already”. Sasuke’s brows furrowed. “Are you gonna stop me?” He challenged, but flinched when he saw the look in Akashi’s eyes. His usual bright violet eyes were glazed over, dull. “You guys! Stop!” Kakashi ordered and dragged the knocked out ninja, tying him to a tree. “Tazuna, I need to speak with you”.
Everyone went to the tree. Kakashi then explained about the puddle he and Akashi saw and how this attack was planned from the beginning. He also said that the ninjas were Chunnin’s from the Mist Village. “Tazuna, if you are being targeted by ninjas, then this mission isn’t a C rank mission, but a B rank mission, it looks like you have your reasons, but it troubles us when you lie in your request, this wasn’t part of the mission”.
“Let’s quit, this is way out of our league and we need to get Naruto to the hospital, he was poisoned!” Hearing that they were going to cancel the mission because of him, Naruto grabbed a dagger and stabbed his hand, letting the poison drip out. “I’m not going to lose to Sasuke, I vow that to this pain in my left hand, I will protect the old man with this dagger!” Kakashi then told him it was an effective way for the poison to go out, but he would die of blood loss if any more of his blood came out.
Seeing that Naruto was about to panic, Akashi grabbed his injured hand. “Don’t move”. He ordered and hovered his other hand over the wound. A soft green glow emitted from his hand and the wound started to close up. After a few seconds there wasn’t even a scar left. “There, done”. Akashi said and dropped Naruto’s hand. Hearing nothing, Akashi turned to look at the others. Everyone was staring at him in bewilderment. Ignoring them, he turned to Kakashi. “Now that that is taken care of, we can continue with the mission, right?”
Kakashi just nodded.
