For the rest of class Regulus kept his head down and tried to focus on the potion. Regulus usually liked potions, he was really good at it and it also didn’t help that he was one of Slughorns favorite students.
As Regulus worked he could feel the eyes of others looking at him. He assumed it was either Sirius or James or hell maybe even both but Regulus didn’t look up once to check.
By the end of class Regulus had successfully made a draft of peace and was surprised to learn that James Potter had also made one.
After class Regulus packed his things up more slowly wanting everyone else to leave before he walked to the front of the classroom. “Hello professor I was just-”
Professor Slughorn cut him off “Ah Regulus that was a quite fine draft of peace. The first slug club meeting is tomorrow before dinner will I be seeing you there?” Regulus wanted to say no and make up an excuse like usual but he thought that if Slughorn was in a good mood he would be more likely to let Regulus change seats.
“Of course I will be there. But um prof-”
Slughorn cut him off again “Well you better get going it’s a beautiful day and I would hate for you to spend it all in here. Plus I need to clean up, Frank Longbottom spilled his potion.” Slughorn began to walk away so Regulus thought that now would not be the best time to talk.
For the rest of the day Regulus just sat alone in his dorm reading. Regulus loved to read and back at 12 Grimmauld place Regulus would just sit in his room and read for hours while his parents beat Sirius. Regulus didn’t like to think about that.
CRACK! Regulus looked up surprised to see Kreacher standing in his dorm room. Kreacher looked at him then bowed low. “Master Regulus master Orion wanted me to bring you this letter and he said to do it only when you were alone.” Kreacher walked over and handed Regulus the letter.
“Thank you Kreacher.” Regulus took the letter and before Regulus could even look at it there was another CRACK and Kreacher was gone.
Regulus stared at the letter. His parents only used Kreacher to deliver mail when it was secretive. Regulus was scared to open the letter. No, not scared to open it, scared of what it might say. ‘They didn’t know Regulus was sitting next to Sirius in class or about the strange look Sirius had given him back at the feast.’ Regulus thought to calm himself down. ‘No this had to be something different, right?’
Regulus opened the letter and immediately recognized his mother tight neat writing. This made him feel a little better his father only wrote if it was an emergence so it was good that it was not his.
My dearest son, Regulus A. Black
One of the reasons I am writing is to remind you not to get involved with your brother. I know it may be tempting to talk to him after what happened over the summer but remember its not worth it. He is not worth your attention. If I hear any word of you even looking at him your father and I will send you right home.
I also want to remind you not to get into contact with your cousin Andromeda she is a disgrace to the black family name and I don’t want you associating yourself with her kind.
But Regulus I am not just writing this as a reminder I also wanted to tell you that your father and I are working on a special surprise for you for after you graduate Hogwarts. I know it is still two years away but I could not help but starting to search. When you come home for break I will tell you more until then remember to stay out of trouble.
I hope your first few days are going well and if you ever need anything just call Kreacher.
Sincerely
your mother Walburga Black
Regulus reread the letter multiple times. He decided that she must not know about Sirius. He was confused with the Andromeda part at first. After a few re-readings he decided that she must have married that mudblood Ted Tonks. Regulus didn’t really care about that, him and Andromeda had never really been that close. Whenever they saw there cousins he would manly talk to Narcissa. Unlike Sirius and Andy Regulus and Narcissa had done what there parents had told so they were close. They often whispered about Bellatrix who was the only one who actually enjoyed there parents harshness toward mudbloods and blood traitors.
For a while after Regulus had memorized the letter he still wondered what the surprise was. Many thoughts flew through his head but after what seemed like hours of thinking Regulus gave up and decided to give up on decoding the last part of the letter as he headed down for dinner just now realizing how hungry he was.
Hey sorry its a short chapter I have been really busy this week. I also probably won’t be posting over the weekend but I will try to have a chapter out next Wednesday as usual. Stay safe
