“Really,” I said, annoyed. “Of all my classes you want to barge in, you pick this one?”

Damon just leaned his cheek into his hand as he sat next to me in art class. “Why? I would make a great model.”

“Wrong art class,” I said then, rolling my eyes as I stared down at my paper. “This is high school, not art school.”

“Ah, bummer,” he said then, sighing.

“I would ask how the hell you miraculously got into my class in such a short amount of time, but that was before I realized you’re a werewolf and can control minds.”

He just smirked, seeming pleased with himself.

“Are you just going to follow me around like a scared puppy dog all day?” I said then, annoyed.

“Nope,” he responded, “more like for the rest of your life.”

“Yay, for me.”

“Well,” he said then, eyes glowing a slight green when the teacher started coming up to us, and she immediately turned and walked off. “Well, I do have to protect you, no?”

“Did you just mind control the teacher to ignore us?” I said then, gazing up at him in annoyance.

“Yes, as a matter of fact, I did.”

“You are insufferable.”

He still looked way to pleased with himself.

“I don’t know why you wanted to keep close eyes on me,” I muttered then, scribbling my charcoal onto the paper, “it’s not like I have gangs and mafias after me.”

“No,” he said then, “but I have a high suspicion there are going to be people coming after you to get that wish.”

“Great.”

“Indeed, it is fantastic,” he said sarcastically. “And so now I prove my point.”

I just continued scribbling the charcoal onto the paper.

“That’s a nice picture of an apple,” he said then, peering down at my paper. “Very realistic.”

“Thanks.” I knew very well I didn’t sound like I meant it.

He just made a tsk noise. “Why so snappy? Are you still mad at me?”

I continued drawing. “And what if I was?”

“You’d be lying,” he stated. “I can see through the tough act, Winter. Show me your true colors, will you?”

I paused drawing then and glanced over at him. “This is my true self, and I don’t like you.”

I then stood and went to grab a pencil.

“Awwww, you’re still very mad, aren’t you?” he said then. “Someone holds onto grudges.”

I faced away from him, sharpening the pencil.

But another smile spread across my lips.

He was right, I wasn’t mad at him. But I liked playing with him, too.

Just like he did with me.

I sat down beside him, immediately masking my smile with annoyance.

“So,” he said then, leaning down to see my face, but it was hidden with my hair, “you wanna go for chai tonight?”

“Is this you asking me out on a date?” I said then, giving him a look. “Can’t you catch a hint?”

“I’m not good at hints,” he said then, smirking.

I just lowered my lashes, going back to my work. “You’re buying, that’s final.”

His smile widened then. “I didn’t think you’d cave so easily.”

“I’m a chai-aholic,” I said then. “I physically cannot say no to chai.”

He just leaned his cheek back in his hand. “Good to know.”
