“Stop phasing” Wanda growled from her spot, her fingers wiggling around as another ball of red mist formed, ready to be shot at me.
“If you wanted to hit me I can think of a few-” I broke off with a squeak, phasing to avoid the pain that would accompany being hit. I frowned, glaring at the witch. “Hey! Let me finish my joke!”
“The whole point of training with me is to figure out the rest of your powers” Wanda shouted frustratedly, trying to hit me again. “So stop phasing!”
“Hell no, it hurts real bad when you hit me” I whined, pouting. “Plus, if I have to use more than one trick you have to too. With your red wiggly woo ball.”
She rolled her eyes but smiled wickedly. “Fine then.” I felt myself being lifted from the ground and I started flailing around, attempting to get free before I got too high.
“Wait, Wanda, my best friend, gorgeous Wanda, you don’t have to do this. I love your current training regimen, no need to change it now right?” My voice broke a little as I struggled to get free, my fears causing my heart rate to rise.
“No no, I think you were right” Wanda hummed, holding me up next to her in the air.
“Wanda, maybe you should-” Pietro was cut off by a glare from his sister. He held up his hands in surrender and backed away a couple steps.
“Traitor” I grumbled.
Wanda raised a brow at me and angled her hand toward the ground, sending me speeding downward. I felt my heart stop as I hit the ground, landing with one leg bent and my knee hovering an inch above the ground, my palm against the cold dirt.
I breathed heavily as my heart began to beat again, thumping hard and making my chest ache. I shakily stood up with help from Pietro and looked myself over. I survived; I was alive.
I was alive and I was going to kill Wanda.
“Are you serious?” I growled, glaring at the woman who now floated above the ground, a smug look on her face.
“It worked” she said, shrugging. It was really clear to see how the Maximoffs were twins. Both had extremely concerning tactics when it came to my powers.
“You could have killed me” I snapped, my hands clenched into fists at my sides as my body grew warmer. I kept my eyes as she got closer, descending to the ground.
“Well, you should be glad we figured it out, because now it won’t hurt when you fall.”
I furrowed my brows and looked around, my anger evaporating, instantly being replaced by fear. I was in the air.
“Stop. Let me down. You already proved yourself” I begged, thrashing around again.
“That’s all you this time” she snickered and I felt an inner battle begin.
On the one hand, I could fucking fly. On the other hand, heights were one of the worst things in the world.
“Okay, fun, new power, now how do I get down?” I panicked, flapping my arms in an attempt to return to the ground.
“Just breathe,” Wanda laughed, holding out a hand. I eyed it cautiously, well aware of the way she liked to fake me out. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
“You say that but you just dropped me fifteen feet.”
She rolled her eyes, shaking her head a little. “I would have caught you if you got too close, but you were pissing me off.”
“Still no excuse to let me freefall” I huffed, still looking at her outstretched hand.
Wanda raised her eyebrows, starting to withdraw it. “Alright, stay up here.”
“No, no, wait. Please help” I begged, scrambling forward and latching on to her hand. She grinned, starting to descend, tugging me with her until I was safely back on the ground.
And then I was fully on the ground, my back in the dirt.
I groaned, coughing a couple times as I laid my arm over my torso, my eyes closing. “You are such a fucking liar.”
“What do you mean?” She asked cheekily.
“You said you wouldn’t hurt me” I whined, opening my eyes and flipping her off.
“If you were smarter you would have seen it coming” she shrugged and I scowled. Before she could react I grabbed her leg, yanking hard and sending her tumbling to the ground beside me.
“Ow” she grunted softly.
“If you were smarter, you would have seen it coming” I mocked, laughing. Wanda rolled over, trying to punch me but I scrambled to my feet, phasing so she couldn’t get me. I turned back and held out my hand to her. She narrowed her eyes at me and I rolled them.
“I’m actually polite, unlike you” I scoffed. Sure, I had a fleeting idea to make my hand phase through hers but in the end I was tired and ready for dinner. We had been training all day besides the short break for lunch. Honestly I was starting to believe she was more of a hardass than Natasha
Wanda rolled her eyes at me before grabbing my hand. “You’re annoying.”
“And you’re irritating” I shot back, pulling her to her feet. She started brushing dust off her shorts and I took a minute to take her in. She was hot too, but I’d never tell her that. I was still a little mad about her dropping me out of the air and, now, body slamming me.
Her head whipped around to face me and her eyes widened slightly before her face morphed into suppressed amusement as she tried to hide a smile. I blinked in confusion before it clicked in my brain, making me scowl at her.
“Oh you asshole, how long?” I grumbled, shoving her with my shoulder.
“Since we started over; that night in your room” she said tentatively, probably worried I’d be upset.
I wasn’t upset, more worried about what exactly I had been thinking while under the impression that she couldn’t hear.
“You didn’t think anything too bad” she assured me.
“The fact that you added ‘too’ in front of ‘bad’ makes it worse” I whined, my bottom lip pushing out into a pout.
“Are you okay?” Pietro came over, breaking the moment and reminding me that he was here. I blinked and held out my hands, making a grabby motion.
“Carry me to dinner, I wanna go fast.”
“I thought you said you could beat me?” He joked, stepping forward to pick me up but I narrowed my eyes at him.
“I definitely can. Let’s go” I challenged, turning to Wanda who was watching the interaction closely. “Who are you siding with? Your annoying brother or me?”
Wanda looked between the two of us before sighing and shaking her head, a small smile playing on her face. “What is the point of this?”
“Uhm, winner gets to pick what we watch tonight? Winner gets the bed?” I suggested, looking over to Pietro who nodded, his eyes shining.
Despite there being a large television in the main room with plenty of seating, we had chosen to watch things in my room, always fighting over who got to lay on my bed while the other two were stuck on the floor. Usually, though, I didn’t have a problem as Wanda took the bed and I layed on Pietro. He was truly the only loser in this situation.
That being said, it was my bed. Plus, Wanda had picked nothing but The Office while Pietro continuously made us watch the Sonic TV show or some other cartoon. It was getting on my nerves.
Wanda hummed, eyeing us carefully before walking over to me and jumping on my back. “I’ll side with you.”
“No cheating, Wanda” Pietro warned and I shifted a little, making sure the brunette was comfortable before getting into what I hoped resembled a starting position. Wanda rolled her eyes but promised she wouldn’t, counting us down.
And then we were in the kitchen.
I blinked in confusion as I watched a blue blur come into the room, revealing Pietro as he scowled at his twin. “I said no cheating.”
“That wasn’t me” Wanda assured him as I let her down, my head feeling a little dizzy.
“The same thing happened when I went to the Sanctum. One second I was here and another I was there” I muttered. “Teleportation, maybe?”
“Moving at the speed of light, actually” a masculine voice informed us, the purple-shirted man walking into the room. “But because it’s the speed of light, it’s basically teleporting.”
“What?” I gaped, my eyes widening.
“Your powers have to do with the electromagnetic spectrum. When you phase, you are actually taking on an energy form, most likely x-ray. In taking on the energy form of light, you can travel at the speed of light.”
I listened to the man, my head spinning with all the science-y talk that I clearly didn’t understand. “So what else can I do?”
“That will take more tests, but for now I’d say continue training with Wanda, as the abilities she got from the stone are energy as well.”
I nodded, blinking a little before I looked around the room. I made my way over to the cabinet. “Can we have dinner?”
“Yes, I’m hungry” Pietro agreed and I grabbed a box of mac and cheese.
“I want actual food” Wanda scolded, using her magic to move everything out of the way and pulling me away from the counters. I huffed, collapsing back into the chair and watching her get to work as she pulled out various ingredients. She really was gorgeous, and there was no doubt she knew it.
The witch paused, turning and grinning at me. I rolled my eyes and laid my head against Pietro, who had taken the chair next to me. Wanda looked over to her brother before looking back at her task, busying herself again.
“So, what are we watching tonight?” Pietro asked, pulling my attention to him. I leaned away and frowned, moving some hair out of his eye before shrugging.
“I don’t know, I’ll have to see what I feel like. I should have bet one of your sweatshirts too, the one I have is dirty.”
Pietro frowned. “Am I ever going to get that back?”
“Nah, I like it. It’s comfy.”
He rolled his eyes and I grinned. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Wanda look back at us, lingering a little before looking away. It was times like these that I wish I could be a mind reader.
