“you’re still not over the diner incident?” Hyunjin questioned once she saw that familiar frown on Jimin’s face, it has been sitting there for a week already.
“yea, her friend won’t even reply to me” she sighs. Aeri had not gotten back to her after that transparent excuse, maybe it was to protect Minjeong? Or she was told not to reveal about Minjeong’s state?
Jimin is clueless, she knew how embarrassing that would’ve been, play in front of people and suddenly trip and fall. Because of their eye contact, she feels like she’s part of the reason why that happened.
It’s bothering her even more that she feels like they’re constantly trying to avoid her, and how does she assume that? Because they’re not discreet about it. Like, who suddenly sees you and then taps their friend’s arm before they put on their hoods and walk with their backs turned on you?
“then? Why not just talk to her?” Chaeryeong butts in, straightening the papers for the flyers that they have printed and it’s about the music festival in home town Seoul. All of them are certain that ‘the procrastinators’ would be there since they’re starting to take their band seriously, that’s what they heard from Yizhuo who was declaring herself as ‘manager-nim’ all of a sudden.
“But where? It’s like she’s everywhere but nowhere” Jisu snorts at her response, as if it’s ridiculous, because, to her, it is.
“they’re right next to the detention room, it’s not like they’re in a bat cave or something” she laughs incredulously while everyone watches her with weirded out expressions, it’s almost like she just exposed herself for knowing such a thing.
“and how do you know that?” Hyunjin asked rhetorically with a smug tone and a smirk on her face, the blush on Jisu’s face giving it all away.
It’s not like they don’t know it anyway, she just feels like she’s so good at hiding the blatant fact of whom she has a crush on.
“Nobody even knows where the detention room is located” Chaeryeong added, the other two were cooing and teasing the president who is caught blushing her secrets away.
“checkmate” Jimin added the last blow.
All before the four of them jolted up on their seats with a squeal when the door suddenly busted open, revealing a tired but elated Shin Yuna.
“yah!”
“what the hell!”
“you scared me!”
“I have never felt my heart jump like that before!”
“you guys…” Yuna panted, holding onto the door frames as she looked down while catching her breath.
“what?”
“what is it?”
“spill it”
“you… patience… but… outdoor cafeteria-now!” they didn’t know why Yuna had said that with the unneeded urgency but they didn’t question it any further since the tallest girl made a mad dash towards the outdoor cafeteria with them following right behind.
Once they arrived, they were greeted by a crowd gathering over three round tables that stationed 5 people, and Jimin already knew what’s up.
“Yizhuo told us to rate their performance” Yuna says through deep breaths.
[thus, I shall warn you with long, redundant descriptions of a performance]
Oh really
Immediately after Heejin plays her guitar with the first line using her lower voice, she’s swarmed with squeals and cheers because of her adored deep voice.
I didn’t meet you
To hear those words
Oh really Oh really
Let’s say you’re right
Oh really really really really
The others harmonize at the background before Aeri starts the verse with the drums while Ryujin starts singing the next lines.
I’m serious
I want to know how you feel
Am I just lonely
Am I biased
Broke broke
I live (lived) with a broken heart
The song calms down as Heejin’s guitar fills in the calming section of the song with Yeji taking up the following lines with a slight ambience that she adds with the effects she’s using on her piano playing synths.
Please don’t go, I’m lonely
Freakin’ hard to say goodbye
Even I can’t understand me
What an embarrassment
Jimin inwardly chuckles at that line since she sees an underlying message hidden there as the beating of the drums with the tempo going faster indicating the upcoming chorus that everyone is anticipating. She looks around and found everyone jamming, dancing around, pumping their fists in the air, and she mirrors the free will they have by clapping along.
Oh really
Really
All of them sings the main part of the song, some of them unable to keep their smiles hidden. Minjeong taking up the following two lines while vibing with the song, her and Yeji increasing their volumes as the chorus progresses to add more depth to what they’re playing.
I’m a mess
Stop pretending
Yeji starts singing the following pair before the group ends the first half of the chorus with the title of the song.
Speak honestly for me
Oh really Oh really
Oh really
Yes, really
Heejin takes the following lines, looking over at the crowd as she feels her lines.
If you can’t look at me
All the time
She and Yeji share the last line of the chorus before they transition to the next verse.
At least love me now
Oh really Oh really
Oh really
Aeri does a roll on the drums before she stops, the group clapping with Heejin’s guitar playing the chords for Aeri’s verse that she opens with a singing rap style.
My love, please open your eyes
Am I not the one you’ve been searching for
You look tired to the point of death
Am I being selfish?
I’m ready to dedicate myself to you
Oh really Oh really
She ends her verse with growing kicks before Ryujin makes the crowd squeal and swoon with her rap verse.
Boohoo boohoo boohoo boohoo
Stop being a baby
I’m too old for this… Peace out
I’m turning 30 soon
But I act tough in front of younger friends
Everything feels pointless
Work is piled up
Interpret it, save me
The drums then settle with soft snares before gradually ascending to go to the chorus with Yeji’s synths lowering in volume along with Ryujin’s bass. Heejin and Minjeong’s guitar doing their own thing with the former strumming and the latter plucking as she sings her lines.
Please don’t go, I’m lonely
Freakin’ hard to say goodbye
Even I can’t understand me
What an embarrassment
And at the last beat of the cymbals, Jimin dances along with the crowd as the group sings their chorus.
Oh really
Really
Minjeong also dances along, even jumping on the table as she sings her verse, riding its upbeat nature.
I’m a mess
Stop pretending
Yeji follows with her verse, also jumping along with the hyped crowd with their catchy song.
Speak honestly for me
Oh really Oh really
Oh really
Yes, really
Heejin winks which caused the girls in the crowd to go crazy, also watching Hyunjin dancing at the back with her arms up the sky, smiling as she finishes her lines.
If you can’t look at me
All the time
Yeji sings the last lines before all instruments excluding hers stop playing, also as she has everyone’s knees weakening with her line at the bridge.
At least love me now
Oh really Oh really
Oh really
Alright, goodbye
Freakin’ hard to say goodbye
Minjeong follows the drums that start building up the bridge that she nails with a high note followed by a higher note before the whole group starts singing the chorus.
Even I don’t even know me, what an embarrassment
Oh really
Really
I’m a mess
Stop pretending
Speak honestly for me
Oh really Oh really
Oh really
Yes, really
If you can’t look at me
All the time
At least love me now
Oh really Oh really
The group starts singing loudly with the outro of their song leading to the end.
Oh really
It’s hard to let go of you
Oh really Oh really
Freakin’ hard to say goodbye
Please get up and leave first
Oh really Oh really
Freakin’ hard to say goodbye
Oh really
It’s cute, as Jimin thought. With Minjeong nailing the high notes with her most notable line being ‘what an embarrassment’ all while Jimin is watching.
It sketches a smile on her face, like an untold reassurance about how Minjeong feels about that incident in the diner. That maybe she wouldn’t have to feel bad anymore.
Jimin leaves the cafeteria with the largest grin on her face.
