Jake and Johnnie are sitting on the couch and hanging out when they suddenly got a knock on their house door.

Jake gets up, “I’ll go answer it,” he said as he walked over. He opened the door and his eyes lightened up. “Oh hey! Sam! Colby!” He hugged them at the door for a moment. “Whats up man?” Colby greeted, Sam waved, smiling.

Johnnie stayed seated, looking at the two men that were now at the door. He recognized them instantly. “Oh hey guys.”

“Hi Johnnie!” Sam greeted, “Ready to go?”

Johnnie looked confused as Sam and Colby stepped into the house. Jake sat back down next to Johnnie, looking between them with a happy expression on his face.

“Go? Go where?”
Johnnie questioned, raising an eyebrow as he leaned back into the couch.

Colby replied to Johnnie, “We are going ghost hunting!” Sam spoke up, “Yeah didn’t Jake tell you?” Jake held back a laugh as he smiled at Johnnie. “… Surprise!”

Johnnie was slightly surprised, his eyes widening for a second. He looked at Jake, a slight pout on his face as he realized that his friend had conveniently left out this information.

He huffed and crossed his arms, trying to hide his slight disappointment at not being informed sooner.”No. Jake definitely did not tell me.”

Jake laughed, “I wanted it to be a surprise cuz i know you scaredy cat you get” he teased as he gets up. “C’mon, let’s get going.”

Johnnie rolled his eyes at Jake’s comment, his cheeks flushing a faint pink.
“I’m not a scaredy cat!”

He protested, but got up anyway. He shot a glare at Jake as he walked towards the door, but it was more playful than anything.

Sam and Colby laugh. All four men exit the house and go towards the car. They all get inside of Colby’s car.

Colby started the car. “Tonight, we are going to a place that’s familiar… At least to Jake, anyway. Johnnie I don’t know if you know of this place but tonight we are going to Griffith Park!!!” Sam is recording with the camera with a smiley face.

Johnnie raised an eyebrow as they got into the car, intrigued by Colby’s announcement.
He leaned forward in his seat, looking over at Jake.

“Griffith Park? Seriously? I thought we were going somewhere spooky.”
He muttered, a hint of disappointment in his voice.

Jake laughed, “Oh it is dude.” He patted Johnnie’s shoulder.

Sam recording the interaction, he says,– “Yeah Johnnie, trust me. A lot of murders happen there, and apparently a couple on Halloween night named Rand and Nancy died by a fucking tree and the park bench is still there to this day”

Johnnie shuddered slightly at the mention of the deaths. He was starting to get a bit nervous now.”Great, so I’m stuck in a creepy place with three idiots. This is gonna be fun.”
He muttered sarcastically, rolling his eyes but secretly a bit excited.

Jake laughed again, “Yeah, and rituals there and shit i heard right?” He asked. Sam nodded, “Yeah” Colby exclaimed, “Well let’s go! Its Halloween night! Perfect time!” As he starts the car. Sam turned the camera off for now.

Johnnie groaned and leaned back in his seat, running a hand through his hair. He was starting to regret agreeing to come along.

“Can’t wait for all the demonic spirits and spooky vibes,” he muttered under his breath sarcastically, glancing out the window at the passing scenery.

Jake laughed, “its gonna be alright Johnnie.” He comforted as he looked out the window. Since Jake and Johnnie are seated in the back.

Sam and Colby in the front. Colby is driving as he says, “What’s wrong Johnnie? Regretting your life choices?” Sam and Jake laugh.

Johnnie huffed, crossing his arms again.
“No. I’m regretting letting Jake talk me into coming along,”He grumbled, glaring at Jake who was still laughing.

Jake scoffed, “Meanie” he stuck his tongue out. “It’ll be ok dude, I’m here I’ll protect ya” he teased with a smile.

Sam said, “Aww” as Colby patted his chest with one hand, driving with the other.

Johnnie rolled his eyes once again, but couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at the corners of his lips.

“Yeah, yeah. You better.”
He muttered, shoving Jake’s shoulder playfully.

Soon enough, they arrived at Griffith Park. They exit the car and Sam begins to record. Colby has a bag on his back. “Ok so I brought the ghost hunting equipment with us so we can actually see if we can talk to Rand and Nancy tonight”

Johnnie stood beside Jake, looking up at the park. The atmosphere was a bit eerie and it made his skin crawl.

“Right, of course you did.”Johnnie said sarcastically, looking at the bag on Colby’s back. He could already feel his heart rate starting to pick up in anticipation.

“Yeah cuz its gonna be fun!!” Jake exclaimed with a laugh. He looked around, before saying, “Notice how nobody is at this park right now?”

Johnnie’s eyes widened as he realized Jake was right. It was completely empty, the only sounds being the wind rustling through the trees and their own footsteps.

“That’s… weird.”
Johnnie mumbled, sticking close to Jake as they began to walk further into the park.

While Sam and Colby are walking in the front with flashlights, talking to the camera and explaining the haunted history of the place.

Jake said, “i know the walk to the haunted bench is far from here. About a few miles.”

Johnnie let out a groan at the mention of how far they had to walk.”A few miles? Seriously? I thought you said it was a short walk…”He grumbled, clearly not thrilled about the long walk ahead of them.

Colby laughed, “Yeah I forgot back that. Sorry Johnnie. Guess you’re getting your exercise”

Sam laughed, “Yeah, but it’ll be worth it dude” as he walking backwards, camera in hand.

Johnnie rolled his eyes once again, huffing in annoyance.”You’re all assholes, you know that?”He said, though there was no real malice in his voice. Just a hint of sarcasm.

Everybody laughed.

Sam turned off the camera for a moment. They walked the first few miles and then Sam turned the camera back on, the bright light of the camera shining on everybody.

The first few miles passed by slowly, the silence occasionally interrupted by the sound of Sam’s camera and Colby’s banter.

Johnnie was starting to feel a bit tired from the walking, but he tried to keep up with the others. He was still clinging to Jake, using him as a sort of security blanket in the eerie surroundings.

Jake felt Johnnie’s tatted arms around his tatted arm, literally clinging and hugging onto him. Jake laughed as he looked at the camera, “Guys i got a fuckin’ emo rat on me,” he joked.

Johnnie smacked Jake’s chest, scowling at him in response to the joke.”Shut up, idiot.”
He muttered, burying his face into Jake’s arm as he continued to hold onto him. He was being clingy and he knew it, but he didn’t care.

Sam laughed, “Sounds like someone is grumpy,” he teased, recording them all as they walked. Jake muttered, “Ow!” As he got smacked, he laughed a bit.

Colby said, “We’re gonna be there soon, let’s take a short break and rest our legs for a moment.”

Johnnie nodded in agreement, letting go of Jake as they came to a stop.
He sat down on a nearby bench, stretching his legs out with a sigh. He was tired, but he didn’t want to admit it. He just wanted to get to the haunted bench and get this whole thing over with.

Jake said, “Is this the haunted bench!” He pointed to the bench Johnnie sat on. Sam said, “No Jake, that’s just the average bench. The haunted bench literally still has the tree on it.”

Johnnie rolled his eyes at Jake’s stupidity, unable to stop himself from commenting.”No, dumbass”

Jake pouted. “Man,” as he sits on the normal park bench with Johnnie. “I need a zyn,” Jake said, taking out the little nicotine zyn package. He opened the lid and takes one out, sticking it into the bottom of his mouth.

Johnnie huffed with a smile,
“Seriously?”He said, looking around at the creepy surroundings with a hint of unease.

“What? You know I’m tryna quit,” Jake replied, putting the zyn’s in his pocket. “But i did bring cigarettes with me.”

Sam laughed and shakes his head, “You’re ridiculous.” He teased. Colby said, “It’ll be alright guys, we’re gonna be at that haunted bench soon. We’re actually coming near some haunted caves”

Johnnie rolled his eyes again, the word “haunted” causing a shiver to run down his spine.”Great. Just what I need, more spooky places.”He muttered, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned back on the bench.

“Oh it’ll be fineee” Jake wrapped an arm around Johnnie. Sam recorded that bit with a laugh.

Johnnie leaned into Jake’s touch, trying to hide the fact that he found it comforting. He let out a huff, looking up at the sky.

“You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”
Johnnie accused, glaring at Sam who was recording them again.

Sam and Colby laugh. Colby says, “Alright! Off your asses let’s go”

Jake suckles on the zyn in his mouth as Jake and Johnnie get off the regular bench and began walking with Sam and Colby again.

Johnnie reluctantly stood up, following the others as they continued their trek to the haunted bench.

He kept close to Jake, still clinging to his arm as he glanced around nervously. The feeling of unease was only growing stronger with each step they took into the eerie surroundings.

Jake asks, “You okay?” To Johnnie as part of the zyn sticks out of the corner of his mouth.

Meanwhile Sam and Colby are a bit further away, making jokes and saying more haunted history for the video.

Johnnie glances up at Jake, biting his lip nervously.”I’m fine,” he lied, trying to sound casual.

Johnnie wasn’t fine. He was actually terrified. The feeling of dread was only getting worse the closer they got to the haunted bench, and he was desperately trying to hide it from the others.

First they arrived at the caves. Colby said, “Okay we have arrived at the first stop. The caves!” He beamed excitedly. Sam, Jake, Colby and Johnnie walk inside of them.

Johnnie’s grip on Jake’s arm tightened as they entered the caves, the dim lighting making the atmosphere even more ominous.

Johnnie looked around with wide eyes, taking in the eerie surroundings and the strange sounds echoing off the walls. He whispered to Jake, his voice shaking slightly.”This is creepy as hell…”

“It’ll be alright,” Jake whispered back, before he looked up at Sam and Colby and jokingly says, “Dude these caves look like a bat will attack our asses”  he jokes for the video.

Sam and Colby laugh. “C’mon, let’s get to the exit of them and then continue to the haunted bench” Sam instructed.

Johnnie chuckled weakly at Jake’s comment, though the mention of bats didn’t help to ease his nerves.

He followed closely behind the others as they made their way through the caves, keeping a wary eye on the dark corners and shadows that seemed to move out of the corner of his vision.

Soon enough, a bat flies down over Johnnie’s head. Jake exclaimed, “Woah!” As he stepped back. Sam laughs as he is recording for the video, “Dude! They’re bats here!”

Johnnie let out a small yelp of surprise as the bat flew past his head, instinctively jumping closer to Jake and clinging to him like a koala.

Jake laughed, hugging onto Johnnie. Sam is recording them before he had to duck, “Fuck that bat won’t fuck off!” Colby exclaimed, “Let’s go before more show up!”

Johnnie buried his face in Jake’s chest, trying to hide.He nodded in agreement with Colby, desperately wanting to get out of these damn caves.

The four men ran out of the caves, occasionally yelling curse words and laughing as more bats flew over their heads.

As soon as they were out of the caves, Johnnie let out a deep sigh of relief, still clinging to Jake like a lifeline.

Jake jokingly pushed Johnnie back. “dudeee you’ve been clinging on me for so long–” he laughed.

Sam jokingly said, camera on them all. “Yeah, he’s clinging to his boyfriend,”

Jake laughed harder at this response, not even knowing that Johnnie has a crush on him.

Johnnie’s face turned bright red at Sam’s comment, his grip on Jake’s shirt loosening slightly.

Johnnie shot a glare at Sam, silently begging him to shut up. But of course, he was recording everything, so there was no way Sam was going to let this go.

They do make these jokes from time to time, so it wasn’t a surprise. Jake continues to laugh with a genuine smile.

Colby said, “we’re almost there.” As they’re walking in togetherness.

Johnnie tried to ignore the butterflies in his stomach as Jake laughed, his heart skipping a beat at the sound of his friend’s smile.
He let go of Jake’s shirt, stuffing his hands into his pockets as they continued to walk.

Johnnie’s nerves were returning as they got closer to the haunted bench, his eyes darting around the area as if expecting something to jump out at them.

As they all walked, Sam was recording the experience. They were making jokes and such as they walked. Clearly having fun being out this late and exploring in togetherness.

Jake spits his zyn out after he was suckling on it for a while. He see’s the bench and says to the camera, “Here we fucking gooooo”

Johnnie swallows hard as they approach the haunted bench, his heart pounding in his chest. He glances nervously at the tree behind it, half expecting something to jump out at them from the shadows.

As they all walked over, they see the haunted bench. The damaged it took. The tree literally still resting on top of the bench. The bench was visibly broken and it just looked unnerving.

Johnnie stood frozen in place, staring at the haunted bench with a mixture of fear and awe. The sight of the damaged bench and the tree resting on top of it was downright creepy. He felt like he was in a horror movie, just waiting for something to go wrong.

Colby unzipped the bag. “I’m gonna take out the rempod and the spirit box” Sam says, “Okay, I’ll set the camera on the bench”

Johnnie watched as Colby took out the rempod and the spirit box, his heart sinking even further. He took a step back, his eyes darting between the camera and the devices in Colby’s hands.

Jake is sitting on the bench. “Hi Rand and Nancy” he greeted. As Colby sets up the rempod a little bit away from the bench more near the tree.

Johnnie rolled his eyes at Jake’s greeting, but a small smile tugged at the corners of his lips despite himself. He watched as Colby placed the rempod near the tree, a sense of foreboding washing over him.

Sam said, “Rand? Nancy, if you’re here. We got this rempod for you. If you touch it, it’ll let us know you’re here”

Colby is walking around the haunted area, looking around with his flashlight and camera.

Jake couldn’t resist the urge, but he took another zyn out from his pocket and popped it into his lip.

Johnnie sighed in exasperation as Jake took out another zyn, shaking his head at his friend’s addiction to those things

Johnnie glanced at the rempod, half expecting it to go off at any moment. But there was nothing but silence, the air around them feeling tense and thick with anticipation.

Suddenly the rempod began to beep. Colby gasped and aimed the camera at the rempod. Sam says, “Thank you.”

Johnnie’s eyes widened in shock as the rempod started beeping, his heart leaping into his throat. He looked around frantically, expecting to see something, *anything,* nearby.

He stepped closer to Jake on instinct, seeking comfort and reassurance from his friend.

Jake is suckling on the zyn as he wrapped an arm around Johnnie. Sensing his anxiety. Still remained sitting on the bench.

Sam said, “Do you want us to talk to you?” As he picked up the spirit box and turned it on.

Johnnie leaned into Jake’s embrace, taking comfort in the feeling of his friend’s arm around him. He felt a bit calmer, but he still couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that was clinging to him like a shadow.

Johnnie watched as Sam turned on the spirit box, the static buzzing through the air like an ominous hum.

Colby is recording the experience. Scanning the camera around the haunted area. The spirit box began to spit out words.

Johnnie’s eyes darted to the spirit box as it began to speak, his heart skipping a beat with each word that came out.He felt a chill run down his spine as the box spoke, the words seeming to carry a malevolent energy with them.

Jake says, “Rand? Nancy? I heard you two were very young– like our ages –when you got killed by this tree here. Sucks to die on Halloween night, amiright?”

Johnnie cringed at Jake’s words, feeling like his friend was poking a sleeping bear. But he didn’t dare to say anything, knowing that it would only encourage Jake to keep talking.

Jake said, “If you two are here, i need a solid sign. Because I’m not gonna believe it until you show me something.” As he looked down, spitting his zyn out.

Johnnie watched nervously as Jake spat out his zyn, silently hoping that his friend wouldn’t push the ghosts too far. But of course, Jake was never one to back down from a challenge.

Sam said, “We should do the Estes Method. Jake? Are you down for it?” Jake nodded, “Hell yea, I’m down. I did it at that last location we went too.”

Johnnie’s eyes widened in horror at the mention of the Estes Method. He looked at Colby, silently pleading for him to talk them out of it.

However Colby nodded in agreement. “Okay Jake yeah! Someones being brave today. How are you feeling Johnnie?”

Johnnie let out a shaky sigh, his palms beginning to sweat.
“I feel like I’m going to have a fucking heart attack,” he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper.

Colby laughed, “It’ll be ok dude” as Sam gets out the headphones and connects them to the spirit box. He handed the spirit box to Jake. Jake puts the headphones on and holds the box. Shutting his eyes.

Johnnie watched as Jake put on the headphones and shut his eyes, gripping the spirit box tightly in his hands.

Johnnie felt a pang of fear.
He took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart as he waited for something to happen.

Jake was under the Estes method. Trying to focus on what the spirit box is saying. Sam asks, “Rand? Nancy? You can now talk through Jake here”

The silence was deafening as Jake sat there, the only sound being the faint buzz of the spirit box.

Johnnie could feel his anxiety mounting up with each passing second, his eyes flicking back and forth between Jake and the spirit box.

Johnnie and Colby exchanged worried glances as Jake leaned forward and covered his face. They could both see the tension in his body, the way his shoulders were hunched and his hands were clenched into fists.

Jake is rocking a bit as he is focusing on what the spirit box is saying. He is saying each word as clearly as possible. Colby is recording him.

Bench”
“Holiday”
“I’m here”
“Go away.”

Johnnie’s heart sank as Jake repeated the words that the spirit box was saying, each one sending a shiver down his spine. He looked at Colby, then back at Jake.

Sam said, “Woa, it’s literally matching exactly about what happened here.” Colby replied as he is recording with the camera, “Yeah, dude. I mean it is Halloween night”

Johnnie swallowed hard, his mind racing with a million thoughts. He didn’t know whether to be amazed or terrified at the accuracy of the words being spoken through Jake.He glanced over at Sam, who was looking equally unsettled, and then back at Jake, who was still rocking back and forth.

Suddenly a cold breeze blew through through the area, making it cold and crisp. Jake spoke a few more words,
Leave us alone”
“Quiet”
“Animal”

The sudden gust of wind made Johnnie jump, a shiver running down his spine as the temperature dropped. He wrapped his arms around himself, trying to ward off the cold.

Johnnie looked over at Colby, who was still recording, and noticed that his friend’s hands were shaking slightly.

“Animal?” Sam spoke up. Before he tapped on Jake to get him out of the trance. Jake takes the headphones off, “Guys literally right after animal i heard a growling sound like– come through the headphones”

Johnnie’s eyes widened in shock at Jake’s words. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest, the fear now bordering on panic.
He glanced around the area, half-expecting to see some sort of creature lurking in the shadows.

Colby handed the camera to Sam, “Yeah that is weird. The only thing i can think of is coyotes, they like this park especially at night or the bats”

Johnnie shuddered at the cold breeze.
He looked around the park again, trying to spot any signs of movement in the shadows, but everything was eerily still and silent.

Jake spoke up, “Yeah but I haven’t heard or seen any animal” he gets off the table. “I’d say lets–” he gets cut off by the rempod going crazy with the loud beeping noises.

The sudden sound of the rempod going off made everyone jump, the loud beeping filling the air like an alarm.

Johnnie’s heart was racing so fast that he could feel it in his throat, his hands shaking uncontrollably as he looked at the rempod in horror.

“Holy shit!” Sam exclaimed as he looked at the rempod, zooming in and recording it. Jake walked over to Johnnie, he hugged him. “C’mere, C’mere, it’s okay”

Johnnie clung to Jake, burying his face in his friend’s chest as he tried to steady his breathing. He could feel his heartbeat pounding against Jake’s body, and he could barely hear anything over the sound of his own blood rushing in his ears.

Johnnie felt like he was going to pass out, his legs trembling beneath him as he tried to stay upright.

Sam recorded Johnnie’s feared reaction and then the rempod stopped beeping. Colby said, “what the fuck?”

Johnnie slowly lifted his head from Jake’s chest, looking over at Colby with wide, frightened eyes. He could feel the tears pricking at the corners of his eyes, but he refused to let them fall.

Johnnie took a shaky breath, trying to calm himself down, but his mind was still reeling from the sudden noise and adrenaline rush.

Jake pets Johnnie’s hair, “Hey it’s okay. It’s gonna be okay. I’m just as scared as you are. Everyone is, you’re not alone”

Johnnie leaned into Jake’s touch, the feeling of his friend’s hand in his hair helping to ground him a little. He took another deep breath, trying to believe Jake’s words.

Johnnie looked around at Sam and Colby, seeing the fear and uncertainty in their eyes as well, and it made him feel slightly better knowing that he wasn’t the only one who was scared out of his mind.

Colby said, “Jake and Johnnie you both should sit on the bench.” Sam nodded, “Yeah, Rand and Nancy were a couple” he joked with the camera on them.

Jake chuckled weakly at Sam’s joke, shaking his head in amusement. He guided Johnnie over to the bench and sat down next to him, keeping his arm wrapped protectively around his friend’s shoulders.

Jake takes a seat with Johnnie. He looked at the tree. “Its kinda sad how the couple like sat here to like makeout or whatever and then a fucking tree kills ’em, our age Johnnie”

Johnnie nodded, his eyes fixed on the tree that the couple had died under. He shivered involuntarily, a chill running down his spine as he thought about their tragic fate.He leaned his head against Jake’s shoulder, seeking comfort in his friend’s presence.

Jake laid his head on top of Johnnie’s. Sam records the scene and mumbles, “Aww” Colby chuckles.

Johnnie rolled his eyes at Sam’s comment, but he couldn’t help but feel a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Johnnie looked up at Jake, seeing the amused expression on his friend’s face.He nudged him playfully, sticking his tongue out at Sam and Colby behind the camera.

Colby said, “Should we ask more questions to the rempod?” Sam nods, “Yeah. Johnnie? Can you do the honors?”

Johnnie hesitated for a moment, still feeling a little shaken up from the earlier incident with the rempod. But he knew he couldn’t back down now.

Johnnie took a deep breath and looked at the rempod, steeling himself for whatever response it might give.”Uh, okay…what do you want us to ask it?”

Jake says, “Just ask Anything in your mind, dude” as he looked around the area. Before he got up from the bench to explore some more.

Johnnie nodded, closing his eyes for a moment to gather his thoughts. He took another deep breath, trying to push down the fear and focus on what he wanted to ask the rempod.

Johnnie opened his eyes again and spoke up, his voice a little shaky but determined.”Are there any other spirits here with us right now?”

Sam looks at the rempod, aiming the camera at Johnnie and then the spiritual device. Colby is watching Jake walk off.

The rempod began to beep slowly, as if considering the question. The sound echoed through the air, making Johnnie’s heart race again.

Sam kept the camera trained on the rempod, capturing every beep and movement on tape.

Jake walked off into the distance. He’s been feeling stressed out and decided to smoke an actual cigarette rather than zyn to calm his nerves.

Colby saw a cigarette being lit in the distance and he looked away, not minding as he focuses at the task at hand.

Johnnie glanced over at Jake as he walked off, a pang of concern hitting him in the chest. He could tell that his friend was stressed and worried about him, and it made him feel guilty for being so scared.

Johnnie refocused his attention on the rempod, waiting for it to give its answer to his question.

The rempod continues to go off as Sam and Colby are asking questions. Meanwhile Johnnie walked off to talk with Jake.

Johnnie got up from the bench and walked in the direction that Jake had gone, his heart pounding in his chest. He found his friend standing a little ways off, smoking a cigarette.

Johnnie walked up to him, stuffing his hands in his pockets and looking at the ground nervously.

Jake is looking at the stars and smoking his cigarette. Exhaling the cloud of smoke into the air. He heard footsteps and looked over. Noticing Johnnie. “Oh hey”

Johnnie offered a small, nervous smile as he approached Jake.

“Hey,” Johnnie replied, stopping a few feet away from Jake. He could see the tension in Jake’s shoulders and the way he was holding the cigarette in his hand.

“Just kinda stressed out about what’s been going on,” Jake replied, “Been itching one of these for a few days actually,” as he held the cigarette up.

Johnnie nodded in understanding, his gaze shifting from Jake’s face to the cigarette in his hand.

Johnnie shuffled his feet awkwardly, unsure of what to say or do. He could tell that Jake was struggling with the situation just as much as he was, and it made him feel even more guilty for relying on his friend so much.

Jake said, “Hey what’s that in the distance?” As he puts his cigarette out after a few puffs. He walks futher down the hill.

Sam and Colby put their spirit box and rempod in the bag. Sam is recording as he called out, “Hey Jake?! Johnnie! Where ya goin?”

Johnnie looked in the direction that Jake was pointing, squinting his eyes to try and see what Jake was talking about. But all he could make out was a faint shape in the distance, barely visible in the darkness.

He shrugged and followed Jake down the hill, calling back to Sam and Colby over his shoulder.”We’ll be right back! We’re just checking something out!”

“The fuck?” Colby whispered to Sam. Sam shrugged, “We’ll be there in a sec! Still loading up some equipment!”

Sam and Colby continued to pack up their equipment, the sound of rustling and zipping up bags filling the air. They exchanged a look, both of them feeling a sense of unease as they waited for Johnnie and Jake to return.

Meanwhile Jake stopped and gasped. Seeing a dead animal in the middle of the ground. It was a rabbit’s head, cut off of it’s body.

Johnnie’s heart dropped into his stomach as he saw the gruesome sight in front of him. He stumbled to a stop, his eyes widening in horror at the sight of the rabbit’s head.

Johnnie looked at Jake, seeing the shock and disgust on his friend’s face. He swallowed hard, feeling a wave of nausea wash over him.”Oh my god…” he breathed out, taking a step back from the scene.

“Shit, there’s candles around it–” Jake said, pointing to the candles before calling out, “Sam! Colby! Get the fuck over here! You’re gonna have to censor this shit when you edit!!”

Sam and Colby exchanged another worried glance, hearing Jake’s panicked call from further down the hill.

They quickly abandoned their task of packing up and ran towards the sound of Jake’s voice, their hearts pounding in their chests. As they approached the scene, they saw what had caused Jake’s outburst and gasped in shock.

Meanwhile Johnnie walked off and the sounds of him vomiting and gagging can be heard in the distance.

Sam and Colby immediately went to check on Johnnie, their concern for their friend overtaking their horror at the sight of the rabbit’s head.

They found Johnnie hunched over a few yards away, vomiting into a nearby bush. Colby put a comforting hand on his back, rubbing soothing circles as he retched and gagged.

Jake rushed over, “Johnnie?! You okay!”

Sam recorded the animal for a brief second before following his other friend’s.

Johnnie could barely respond as he continued to throw up, his body trembling with the force of his retching.

Tears streamed down Johnnie’s face, mixing with the sweat on his forehead. He managed to gasp out a weak “no” between heaves, his stomach cramping painfully.

Jake shouted at Sam, “Turn the camera off!” As he went over and literally took it out of Sam’s hands and tossed it. It still recording just in a upwards angle, only getting the group’s feet on camera.

Sam didn’t even have time to protest before Jake snatched the camera out of his hands and threw it aside.

The camera landed on the ground with a thud, still recording the scene but now only capturing the shoes of the boys.

Colby exclaimed, “No but seriously! Why the fuck is there a rabbit head clearly on the fucking ground!”

Sam exclaims, “I don’t know dude! But clearly it has to be done with a ritual or something right??”

Jake scoffed, before he placed a hand onto Johnnie’s back, “you okay…?”

Johnnie slowly straightened up, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. He took a few shaky breaths, trying to steady himself and calm his stomach.

He nodded weakly in response to Jake’s question, still feeling nauseous and shaken up from the gruesome sight.”I-I’ll be fine,” he managed to say, his voice hoarse and strained.

Jake said to Sam and Colby. “I’m done ghost hunting tonight. Literally Johnnie fucking vomited. Seeing that shit? That’s fucked dude,”

Sam scoffed, “well it wasn’t us that placed it there! Obviously some fucked up people did that!” Colby nodding in agreement.

Johnnie leaned against Jake for support, his body feeling weak and shaky. He closed his eyes, trying to block out the image of the rabbit’s head from his mind.

Johnnie took another deep breath, feeling a sense of relief wash over him as Jake defended him and spoke up for them all to leave.

Jake, Sam, and Colby continues to bicker and argue about the situation. Everyone was clearly overwhelmed and stressed.

The bickering continued for several minutes, the boys’ voices growing louder and more frustrated with each passing second.

Johnnie tried to tune them out, focusing instead on his own breathing and the feel of Jake’s hand on his back.

Eventually, the arguing died down and an uncomfortable silence fell over the group. No one seemed to know what to say or do next.

Jake said, “I want to go home.” As he crossed his arms. “Johnnie puked. We’ve never seen that shit. Even when i was ghost hunting with you guys before i even met Johnnie. None of us has ever had a fucking reaction like that. I don’t know if he’s just anxious about the whole thing or that rabbit head, but i think he’s done for the night. He’s been terrified this entire time. He’s been clinging onto me for fucks sake, he’s just as done as i am.”

Sam and Colby fell silent, both of them looking at Johnnie with concern. They had never seen him this shaken up before, and they couldn’t deny that he had a point.

Sam spoke up first, his voice softer than before.”Yeah…you’re right. We should get out of here.”

Colby nodded, “Yeah we gotta pack up the rest of the stuff on the bench then we can go” as he went over and picked up the camera and turned it off.

Jake kept his arm around Johnnie’s shoulders, keeping him close as they walked back towards the bench. He looked at his friend with a mixture of worry and protectiveness, his expression uncharacteristically serious.

Sam and Colby began packing up the rest of their equipment, trying to hurry so they could get out of there as soon as possible.

Jake huffed, “Oh yeah, we have to do that fucking 6-10 mile walk too” he rolled his eyes at the thought.

Sam laughed nervously, “yeah forgot about that..”

Colby groaned as he heard Jake mention the mileage they had to walk.”Ugh, don’t remind me. My feet are gonna be killing me by the time we get back to the car.”

Jake looked at Johnnie, offering a cigarette. He watches as Johnnie immediately took one as the group starts to walk together.

Johnnie takes the cigarette from Jake, his hands still shaking slightly. He brings it to his lips and lights it with trembling fingers, taking a long drag.

Johnnie exhaled slowly, the nicotine doing little to calm his nerves but at least providing a small moment of distraction from the horrors they had just witnessed.

Jake muttered, “hand me it,” as he wiggles his fingers. Meanwhile Sam and Colby are up ahead, talking about the experience.

Johnnie wordlessly handed the cigarette back to Jake, watching as he took a drag of his own.

Johnnie shoved his hands into his pockets, still feeling jittery and on edge. The silence between him and Jake was heavy, both of them lost in their own thoughts as they walked behind Sam and Colby.

Jake said, “I’m sorry” as he and Johnnie took turns smoking the cigarette in togetherness.

Johnnie glanced at Jake, a little surprised by his apology. He knew that it wasn’t Jake’s fault that they had stumbled upon such a horrifying sight, but he appreciated the sentiment nonetheless.

He shrugged and took the cigarette from Jake, taking another drag before passing it back to him.”It’s not your fault,” he said quietly. “We all wanted to do this. We didn’t know what we were getting into.”

“I guess, fuck. Should’ve planned a Halloween party,” Jake laughed as they walked together, he smoked on the cigarette.

Johnnie chuckled weakly, shaking his head.
“Yeah, maybe that would’ve been less traumatizing,” he joked, his voice still laced with a hint of unease.

They continued to smoke in silence for a few moments, the tension between them slowly easing as they fell into a more comfortable rhythm.

Soon enough they were almost to the car. Jake is occasionally glancing at Johnnie’s hand before he makes the move and held it.

Johnnie’s heart skipped a beat as he felt Jake’s hand slip into his own. He glanced down at their intertwined fingers, a warm feeling spreading through his chest despite the lingering anxiety from earlier. He gave Jake’s hand a gentle squeeze, grateful for the silent reassurance.

Sam spoke up, “C’mon slow poaches!” As Colby’s laughter entered the air. Jake rolled his eyes and laughed.

Johnnie couldn’t help but smile a little at Sam’s teasing. It was a welcome distraction from the weight of the night.

He picked up his pace a bit, pulling Jake along with him as they hurried to catch up with Sam and Colby.

“We’re coming!” Jake laughed as he gets tugged along by Johnnie. They all talked about the haunted experience now rather than the disturbing find.

They reached the car and piled in, Sam and Colby in the front while Jake and Johnnie sat in the back.

The conversation continued, the boys trying to lighten the mood and joke about the events of the night.

Johnnie leaned against Jake, his body still feeling drained from the adrenaline rush. He was glad to be out of that hellish forestry park and surrounded by his friends again.

Colby filmed the outro with the other three and the video came to a close. Then the drive home began. Sam crashed in the passenger seat, asleep from the nights events. Colby quietly driving.

Jake popped a zyn into his bottom lip, suckling on it as he was looking out the window.

Johnnie watched as Sam dozed off, his head resting against the window. He glanced over at Jake, noticing the zyn between his lips.

He looked back out the window, feeling the car’s movements lull him into a state of relaxation

. The silence was peaceful, broken only by the hum of the engine and the occasional car passing them by.

Jake looked at Johnnie, muttering. “you okay now? I’ve never seen you puke that much before.”

Johnnie turned to look at Jake, a sheepish expression on his face.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” he replied quietly, rubbing the back of his neck. “Just…really shaken up, I guess. That was the most horrifying thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Jake nodded, “Yeah, that shit was pretty gross huh? I’m sorry,” he apologized before he glanced outside the window, suckling on the zyn.

Johnnie watched as Jake apologized again, a small frown on his face.”Seriously, it’s not your fault,” he repeated firmly. “We all agreed to do this. We all saw it. There’s no reason for you to apologize.”

“Yeah i know but i mean I’ve noticed how anxious you were all night,” Jake replied as he looked back at Johnnie. “You were clinging onto me like a koala,”

Johnnie felt a flush of embarrassment rise to his cheeks at Jake’s words. He had been clinging to him all night, hadn’t he? He hadn’t even realized how obvious it was.

He cleared his throat, trying to play it off nonchalantly.”I-I wasn’t that bad, Jake” he protested weakly.

Colby spoke up , “no dude for real you were literally squeezing Jake,” Jake laughed softly in response. Colby smiled at the two boys in the back.

Johnnie buried his face in his hands, groaning in embarrassment. He had hoped that Colby hadn’t noticed his clinginess, but of course he had.

He glanced up at Jake, who was laughing at him. He couldn’t help but pout, even though it was a little endearing.

Jake smiles, the zyn poking out of his lip before he looked back out of the window. He grabbed Johnnie’s hand and squeezed it lightly.

Johnnie felt a small shiver run down his spine as Jake grabbed his hand, giving it a light squeeze. He intertwined their fingers together, holding on tightly as if he was afraid to let go.

Colby went quiet again. Too tired to talk and just focused on the drive back.

Jake felt Johnnie lay his head on his shoulder. He blushes faintly at the contact as he whispered, “You ok? Sick?”

Johnnie shook his head slightly, his head still resting on Jake’s shoulder.”No, I’m just…tired,” he whispered back, his voice soft and sleepy.

“Yeah me too, long night” Jake replied, rubbing Johnnies back. “glad you’re feeling okay, it worried the fuck outta me”

Johnnie hummed softly as Jake rubbed his back, the soothing motion making him feel even more relaxed. He snuggled closer to Jake, nuzzling his face into the crook of his neck.

“Sorry for worrying you,” he mumbled against his skin.

Jake smiled at the contact, “It’s okay,” he whispered back in return. He rubbed Johnnie’s back and kissed his head.

Johnnie let out a soft sigh as Jake kissed his head, feeling a warm and fuzzy feeling spreading through his chest. He closed his eyes, enjoying the comfort of Jake’s touch and the sound of the car engine.

He knew he should probably sit up and keep himself awake, but he was just too comfortable to move. Instead, he wrapped his arms around Jake’s waist and held onto him tightly.

Colby glanced in the back, smiled, then looked back at the road.

Jake laid his head on top of Johnnie’s whispering, “You still scared?”

Johnnie was about to reply when he felt Jake’s head on top of his own. He felt a small shiver run down his spine again, his heart skipping a beat at the closeness.

He thought for a moment, trying to gauge his own feelings. He still felt a bit shaken up from everything they had seen, but being in Jake’s arms made him feel safe.

He shook his head slightly, his voice barely above a whisper.”Not as much with you here.”

Jake chuckles softly, “yeah i got ya, you’re safe with me” as he smiled, the zyn poking out.

Johnnie felt his heart flutter at Jake’s words. The way he said it so confidently, as if he truly meant it, made Johnnie feel a rush of affection.

He lifted his head up slightly to look at Jake, his eyes drifting to the zyn in his mouth. He wanted to tease him about it, but instead he found himself staring at his lips.

Jake kept the smile on his face. The zyn poking out of the corner of his lip as he asked, “What’re you looking at?”

Johnnie blushed slightly as he realized he had been caught staring. He quickly averted his gaze, looking down at their intertwined hands instead.”N-nothing,” he mumbled, trying to play it cool.

Soon enough, Colby pulled the car up to Jake and Johnnie’s house. Colby said, “have a good night, happy halloween”

Johnnie and Jake both mumbled a sleepy “thanks” to Colby, reluctantly separating as they got out of the car. They both stumbled towards the front door, still feeling tired and drained from the night’s events.

They entered their house and Colby drove off after dropping them off.

Jake said, “wanna sleep in my room tonight? I can tell you’re a bit anxious about the situation from tonight’s investigation”

Johnnie nodded eagerly, the thought of sleeping in Jake’s room giving him a sense of comfort and security.

“Yes please,” he said quietly, a hint of relief in his voice.

“Yeah, i didn’t want to sleep alone either,” Jake replied with a laugh, before he walked to the stairs and spits his zyn out in the trash in his room.

Johnnie followed Jake upstairs, feeling a sense of relief wash over him as they entered the familiar room. He sat down on the bed, kicking off his shoes and letting out a tired sigh.

He watched as Jake went to the trash can to spit out his zyn, a small frown on his face. He didn’t really like that habit of Jake’s, but he knew better than to try and lecture him about it.

Jake said, “im gonna change into PJs real quick,” as he grabbed the oh-so classic plaid pants and went to the bathroom.

Johnnie nodded, watching as Jake disappeared into the bathroom to change. Johnnie takes his jacket off and his jewelry off, sighing.

Once they were all ready for bed, Jake and Johnnie settle into it. Jake sleepily said, “that was fun, creepy but fun”

Johnnie snuggled under the covers next to Jake, his head resting on his chest.

“Yeah, it was…interesting, to say the least,” he agreed, a hint of amusement in his voice. He still couldn’t believe they had actually gone through with the whole investigation, and even more so that they had found actual evidence.

Jake glanced at Johnnies lips before he looked back up. He rubbed Johnnie’s back. “I wished we did a party though, eh oh well”

Johnnie noticed Jake’s gaze linger on his lips for a moment, causing his heart to skip a beat. He bit his lip subconsciously, his mind wandering to what could have happened if they had had a party instead.

“Yeah, that would’ve been fun,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady despite the fluttering feeling in his chest.

Jake looked at Johnnie’s lips and bit his own, mimicking the action.

Johnnie’s eyes widened slightly as he watched Jake bite his own lip, his breath hitching in his throat. He couldn’t help but find the action incredibly hot, and he found himself wanting to do the same thing himself.

Jake smiles as he leaned in a bit. Hinting the idea towards Johnnie, silently asking for consent.

Johnnie’s heart was pounding in his chest as Jake leaned in, their faces now mere inches apart. He could feel the heat radiating off of Jake’s body, and he found himself completely captivated by the look in his eyes.

Without a second thought, Johnnie closed the gap between them, pressing his lips against Jake’s in a soft and gentle kiss.

Jake teasingly jokes between kisses, “Your lips taste like vomit,” as he pulled back and opened his eyes.

Johnnie laughed softly, rolling his eyes at Jake’s teasing comment.”Oh shut up,” he replied, gently shoving him playfully. “You’re the one who just spit out a zyn, idiot.”

“I was kiddingggg,” Jake stuck his tongue out. “I taste the cigarette on your lips more than anything. Mine taste like just straight up nic, huh?”

Johnnie raised an eyebrow at Jake’s teasing, a small smirk on his face.”Oh, so you *did* taste the cigarette then?” He teased back, running his tongue over his own lips

“Yeah better than tasting puke” Jake jokingly replied.

Johnnie chuckled and rolled his eyes again, playfully pinching Jake’s side.”You’re insufferable, you know that?” He said, though there was no real annoyance in his voice.

“Did you have fun ghost hunting with Sam and Colby though?” Jake asked as he pushed Johnnies hair back.

Johnnie hummed softly as Jake pushed his hair back, leaning into his touch.”Yeah, it was actually pretty cool,” he admitted, a small smile on his face. “I was scared shitless at times, but I had fun.”

“Yeah, i mean you literally puked” Jake brought up and looked worried. “That really scared me. You sure you’re not sick or anything?”

Johnnie grimaced slightly at the memory of puking in the middle of the Griffith Park.
“I’m fine, I promise,” he reassured Jake, reaching up to gently pat his cheek.”It was just the nerves and adrenaline getting to me. I swear I’m not sick.”

Jake nodded in understanding. Not pushing it further. He leaned in and pecked Johnnie’s lips. “You know, i was thinking about kissing you all night,” he confessed.

Johnnie blushed at Jake’s confession, a small gasp escaping his lips as he felt his heart skip a beat.

“You were?” He asked, his voice soft and slightly breathless.

Jake nodded, “Yeah. I found it cute how you were clingy to me tonight. I’ve never seen you like that, it’s cute.”

Johnnie blushed even deeper at Jake’s words, feeling a mix of embarrassment and affection.

He knew he had been a bit clingier than usual, but he hadn’t realized that Jake had noticed.

“Shut up,” he mumbled, burying his face in Jake’s chest to hide his flushed cheeks.

Jake laughed followed by a yawn. He rubbed Johnnie’s back. “What? You’re still being cute.”

Johnnie pouted against Jake’s chest, lightly hitting his shoulder in protest.

“Stop calling me cute,” he grumbled, though there was no real annoyance in his voice. In fact, he secretly enjoyed the praise, even if he was too embarrassed to admit it out loud.

“Make me” Jake teased as he lifted Johnnie’s face up and held it in his hands.

Johnnie’s breath hitched as Jake lifted his face up, his hands cupping his cheeks gently. He stared up at him, a mix of challenge and desire in his eyes.

“And how exactly do you expect me to do that?” Johnnie retorted, his voice low and sultry.

“I don’t know,” Jake teased with a smile. “Just make me.” He snickered.

Johnnie huffed, a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. He moved so that he was straddling Jake’s lap, his hands resting on his chest.

“You’re such a bitch you know that?” He said, leaning in closer until their faces were just inches apart.

Jake bit his lip, “You’re cute when you’re sassy,” before he playfully tackled Johnnie and cuddled him in the bed. “But tonight you were super clingy to me. We’re you that scared?” He teased.

Johnnie let out a surprised squeak as he was tackled, being cuddled and spooned. He pouted again, trying to keep up his sassy facade, but he couldn’t help but melt a little under Jake’s touch.

“I wasn’t *that* scared,” he protested weakly, wrapping his arms around Jake’s waist. “It was just a bit creepy, that’s all.”

“Uh-huh sure,” Jake replied as he spoons Johnnie with cuddles. Kissing his cheek. “I love you,” he confessed in a sleepy voice.

Johnnie couldn’t help but smile at Jake’s affectionate actions, feeling his heart swell with love and adoration. He turned his head to nuzzle into the crook of Jake’s neck, inhaling his scent.

“I love you too,” he whispered back, his voice soft and filled with emotion.

“Happy Halloween,” Jake replied. Looking at Johnnie with love in his brown eyes.

Johnnie looked up at Jake, his heart fluttering at the sight of those loving brown eyes.

“Happy Halloween,” he echoed, his voice barely above a whisper. He gently cupped Jake’s face in his hand, his thumb tracing over his cheekbone.

Jake pecks Johnnie’s lips. “Time for bed, long night. Remember?”

Johnnie nodded, a yawn escaping his lips as he remembered how tired they both were.

“Yeah, good idea,”he agreed, snuggling closer to Jake and resting his head on his chest.

Jake sighed in content. Cuddling Johnnie and bundled in blankets. He kissed Johnnie’s head and goes to sleep.

Johnnie closed his eyes, feeling safe and warm in Jake’s arms. He snuggled even closer, tangling their legs together under the blankets. He felt himself drifting off to sleep, the steady rhythm of Jake’s heartbeat lulling him into a peaceful slumber.
