Everybody suddenly wanted to talk to him, at lunch of all times. Right when he needed the most time to himself. It felt like everyone in the entire damn cafeteria had their eyes on him, and it made him squirm a little. Killua had never been a social butterfly, in fact he’d been quite the opposite. Next time I’ll eat somewhere else. He grumbled internally, deciding to just eat when he got home instead to avoid the hassle.
The rest of the day went pretty smoothly. Or, it would’ve if not for the crowd standing outside their classroom. Killua sensed their presence long before anyone else did, and had to admit he was curious but also wary. Everyone seems to be making a big deal over me being quirkless, but surely this many people wouldn’t come over to gawk at me would they? Eventually, the rest of the class noticed when Uraraka let out an exclamation of shock at the amount of people outside.
There was a lot of chatter, but suddenly Bakugou walked forward with a scoff. “They’re scouting out the competition, idiots. We’re the class that survived a real villain attack.” Killua exhaled softly with relief, that did indeed make a lot more sense. “At least you know what a future pro looks like, now move it extras.” Bakugou snapped, and Killua felt like rolling his eyes. I’ve only known him for a day, and I can already tell he’s gonna be a huge pain in my ass. Killua stood up and walked over to the door, wanting to leave. He desperately wanted that leftover chocolate cake from last night. “So this is class 1-A, i’ve heard you guys are impressive but you just sound like an ass.”
A very tired purple haired teen pushed his way to the front of the crowd. “Is everyone in the hero course delusional or just you?” Killua hummed and walked right past Bakugou. “Mostly him, anyways I’m hungry. Can you guys clear off so we can, you know, leave?” The guy went on a long monologue about how he was coming for their places, and essentially declaring war on them. Which made him snicker, comparing this to war was absolutely laughable. The male’s eyes turned to Killua, giving him a deadpan stare. “Is this just a joke to you? Of course, it’s just like privileged people like you with your flashy quirks to not take people like us seriously.”
“Eh? Well yeah you make it kind of hard for me to take you seriously acting like this is war when it’s just some silly tournament games, loosen up and have a little bit of fun will you? Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s a chocolate cake with my name on it sitting in the fridge at home.” He left the baffled teenager there to think through his words as he simply pushed through the crowd, ignoring the commotion behind him as he tried to slide through the throng of people. Killua decided it was best not to bring up his quirklessness, he didn’t want it to be made a big deal of again.Â
Killua didn’t actually really care about the sports festival, it really just sounded like a Hunter exam without the danger and a lot less extreme. It was just a game to him, something fun to pass the time. Killua exited the school building, making his way down the sidewalk when he heard rapidly approaching footsteps. Killua quickly slid a hand into his pocket, then drew out one of his yoyos as he spun on his heel. Killua refrained from tossing it as his eyes registered the figure in front of him. “No need to be on edge young man! I am here to have a little chat with you.”
Allmight is a lot more obnoxious in person. Killua thought, lowering his weapon. “Sure, what is it?” He asked, coming to a stop. Allmight shot a friendly grin at him, but honestly Killua was less than thrilled to be speaking to the number one hero. “You’ve caused quite the stir young man. I’d just like to ask you a few questions.” You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. “Sure, why not.” Killua forced himself to say, knowing he’d regret saying that. “Now I’ve heard you were quirkless, is that true?” Killua was actually starting to get pissed off at this point. “If you’re here to pity me, then save it for someone who gives a damn.” He shot back, to the surprise of the hero.
“Oh of course not! Actually, it’s quite impressive that you got to where you are now.”
Killua shot an irritated glare at Allmight. “All this talk about how I should be lucky to be here, because of what? Because I don’t have a quirk? If anything it’s just you projecting your insecurities on me.” Quirks this, quirks that, my quirk is better than yours, that’s all anyone ever talked about. “I bet half of you fuckers wouldn’t even last a minute in a fight where your quirk is useless, you always focus so much on this fancy superpower that you forget about your most important asset. Your body is the most powerful weapon you could ever have.”
Why does nobody around here understand that? Nobody in this society seemed to put much effort into physical strengths. If they did, it was only to improve their quirk. Killua continued to rant, these thoughts had plagued him for a while and the words just kept falling from his lips without thinking. “Back where I’m from, most of the population doesn’t have anything fancy to work with. You have to actually work on yourself to get stronger, power isn’t just dropped in your lap by pure chance. You have to put actual effort into this stuff, hell I spent my entire damn childhood working my ass off to get what I have. And people want to act like I’m the one who should be pitied?”
Killua finally stopped talking, then realized he might’ve said a bit too much. He let out a sigh, glancing at Allmight’s taken aback expression. “Sorry, I’ve just had people come bother me all day like I should feel sorry for myself for having to actually work to be here. It’s just sad really.” I mean sure having a quirk must be a lot easier than devoting your entire childhood to training your ass off for a job you didn’t even end up going into. “Never thought of it that way, but you do have a point, Young Killua.” Allmight replied, Killua could tell he was trying his hardest to keep that grin on his face.
“You know.” Killua started, placing his hands behind his head. “Even if someone offered me some amazing power, I wouldn’t take it.” Allmight’s face contorted slightly, Killua couldn’t quite describe the expression but it certainly was interesting. “Oh?” Killua let out a chuckle. “I don’t need it. I’ve done just fine on my own without it, and I’ll continue on that way. I don’t really care about being the best of the best anyways, I’m just here to have a good time.” Allmight let out a soft laugh, then gave him an awkward smile. “Well, that’s a perfectly fine ambition to have young man.”
