A Western Doctor’s Happy Farming Life[1] 106

A+ A-

Hualian was utterly stunned hearing that, but he regained his attention quickly, and then rose slowly, standing aside by Song Qinghan and lowering his face, “Yes, Young Mistress.”

Song Qinghan didn’t make a sound. For one reason, he got no perfect mood now and for the other, as a man from modern time, he got no idea how he should deal with such a condition of “Traditional Dreg”.

Luckily, Hualian was pretty well-behaved so far. When Song Qinghan got into his room, Hualian was just standing still there like a mannequin.

Noon time, Wu Dahu came back from the Liangyi Martial Club. He found someone was right in the kitchen cooking, and thought that it was Song Qinghan, so he just spoke with a smiling face, “Han, let me handle with that.”

Hualian startled and flinched a bit but then he quickly turned around facing Wu Dahu while lowering his head and saying respectfully, “Young Master, you’re back.”

Wu Dahu retreated as he found it was not Song Qinghan in front but someone else, he sneered, asking, “Who are you? Were you sent by Zhai Su again? Didn’t I give you guys enough punishment yesterday?”

Song Qinghan walked out from the room after he finished feeding Little Shitou. He rushed over to break in as he saw Wu Dahu was now showing all his anger on face, and then he explained, “It was me who accepted him, nothing bad is going to happen to get a servant to take care of us. We still get a right to kick him out if he dares to do something with evil thought.”

Hearing the explanation from Song Qinghan, Wu Dahu relaxed a bit, and then glanced at Hualian with warning, saying, “If I find out you get here with some bad intentions. You’ll get no easy days.”

Hualian shivered and was about to knee down as his knees bent slightly, but Song Qinghan’s warning occurred to him in his mind. And now he could only lowered his head heavily facing the two, and answered nervously, “Yes, Young Master. I will be absolutely loyal to Young Master and Young Mistress.”

Wu Dahu snorted coldly and no more faced toward the servant, but instead he turned to Song Qinghan while taking out a bouquet behind his back, he delivered the flowers to Song Qinghan with a big smile on his face, saying gently, “We went to the mountain today, and I picked some flowers with me. It’s all for you!”

Song Qinghan reached out to take over the bouquet with a face full of astonishment, he smiled timidly while asking, “What did you do in the mountain? Did the others laugh at you?”

Hearing that, the smile in Wu Dahu on face became more indulgent with happiness, and he answered slowly, “Outdoor competition is listed in the tournament as one of the items this year. It’s heard that such a competition is to filter some competitors for conscription for wars in the future. The tournament day is approaching, probably we will get to the mountains more often recently… Well, they did laugh at me that I picked some flowers along the way, but I just laughed at them back claiming that he got on one to send flower to.”

Song Qinghan smiled either as he noticed Wu Dahu was quite happy sharing his story. He smiled big shaking his head, and turned around to put away the flowers, and spoke to Hualian, “Let’s have lunch.”

After the meal was all served on the table, Song Qinghan noticed that Hualian did not sit down but turned and left to the kitchen, he was about to stop the servant and asked about the reason. But in a second thought, he finally figured out that servants weren’t allowed to share the food with their Masters. So he just kept his mouth shut.

After lunch, Wu Dahu went to the room while Song Qinghan was about to go to the enclosure and get another bowl of milk. Just as he was ready to get into the kitchen, he heard something rustling inside, and then he hid himself in a nimble movement behind the door peering in secretly.

Hualian grabbed a steamed corn bun which was with some black mustiness on in his hand, and soaked it with the tiny bits of the food remnant which Song Qinghan and Wu Dahu left. It could be seen that the corn bun in the his hand seemed to be hard as a rock as he struggled to swallow some bits of it in a long while. But yet, after finishing eating the bun, he seemed to be quite satisfied as he touched his belly while smiling in happiness.

Song Qinghan was shocked pausing there, he looked at bowl full of milk in his hands and pondered. And then he still chose to go back to his room in silence.

It didn’t mean that he was afraid Hualian would drink the milk secretly. He was just hesitant now, he didn’t know whether Hualian was a real pitiful man or he was just playing a show on purpose.

Logically speaking, how could someone who had served Zhai Su for so long live in such a life? In addition, they still got some steamed rice in the pot and half of integrate leftovers. How come Hualian just pick a deteriorating corn bun and eat it with some bits of food remnant? That was much skeptical.

But… What if that was real? Probably the fact was that Hualian was so lowly that he was so much afraid to eat those integrate food.

Song Qinghan dithered for a long while. He saw Hualian had already got out of the kitchen and commenced cleaning the yard. Song Qinghan rushed over to him as if he didn’t allow himself to be so indifferent, he put his hands behind his back, asking, “What did you eat just then?”

Hualian took a sudden pause as he heard Song Qinghan’s inquiry suddenly, and then lowered his head hurriedly, answering, “Young Mistress. I just ate a steamed corn bun I brought myself. I swear I did not steal the food!”

Song Qinghan asked again in confusion, “So what are you going to eat after you eat all the buns you bring?”

Hualian crossed his hands nervously as if it was quite difficult for him to answer such a question currently. The nervousness made Song Qinghan a bit embarrassed either.

“Mis… Mistress… I will make some more with some carrots and husks of grain if I eat them all up.” stammered Hualian.

Song Qinghan shook his head with resignation, and smiled gently, saying, “Don’t you know that all these stuff are used to feed the sheep? Why do you eat something like that?”

Hualian was too nervous right now that he only heard the first bits of Song Qinghan’s words, and then he answered hurriedly, “Young Mistress, I promise I won’t fight against the sheep for the food! I will just pick those wasted ones on the ground.”

It could be seen that Hualian was really at all his eagerness to explain everything and prove his loyalty, he was so nervous that he even forgot the his own “Principle” to raise his head looking at Song Qinghan with full of sincerity and desire.

Song Qinghan found out the sincerity in Hualian’s eyes, but he was more confused now, and then asked again skeptically, “So were you treated like that in Zhai Su’s mansion? Then what is your intention for you to devote yourself to serving that old man as a lowly servant? If I were you, I would definitely get out of that mansion and find a better and decent job.”

The subject seemed to arouse the vigilance of Hualian in his mind, he kept rubbing his thumb with the other hand while pretending to be calm and saying, “Me, me… Since I have become a servant to Young Master and Young Mistress, I will be well-behaved, I swear to Buddha! I will be extremely loyal to you and do nothing bad to you.”

Song Qinghan raised his eyebrows and was somewhat dissatisfied with his nice but evasive answer.

But he didn’t choose to ask further forcibly since they just met, they still got a long way to go anyway and it wouldn’t bother him at all to wait until he could dig something out.

So he said slowly, “You’re allowed to eat the food we eat, and I will pay you five silver coins for monthly salary. I just require you one thing.”

Hualian couldn’t help but quietly raise her head, as if he was all eagerness to figure out what the “One thing” was.

Song Qinghan narrowed his eyes and said calmly, “Never lie to me and Wu Dahu. You can choose to keep your silence, but lying is forbidden!”

Hualian paused as he clenched his fists tightly, and then he answered, “Yes, Young Mistress.”

Well, Hualian was indeed a good helper in daily care anyway, to be honest. And in addition, he wasn’t a servant with a garrulous mouth but was rather hardworking to handle everything.

Even the situation that Song Qinghan thought Zhai Su sent Hualian to seduce Wu Dahu didn’t happen at all.

Hualian was extremely obedient as if he was bought by them from a servant bazaar.

Wu Dahu didn’t say anything toward this. The only thing he cared the most now were Song Qinghan and Little Shitou. As long as Hualian didn’t intend to do something evil, he got nothing to do with this uncommunicative femina servant.

However, other things just kept bothering him recently. Frequently outside training wasn’t something troublesome for him at all. What really bothered him the most was that he was the person who worked the most and bore the major responsibility in every single unexpected situation since he had gained the others ‘ trust.

Later this day, they headed to the woods again in the mountain, and the curator announced another new mission to the whole marching team. He ordered them to scatter and go hunting. It was a hunting competition.

Hunting? Well, Wu Dahu was rather confident about such a game as he was a hunter anyway. He slowly followed behind the others idly, pondering that he would just commence acting until he saw the other failed to catch one.

Suddenly, the curator got irritated as he noticed that Wu Dahu was acting in a careless way. And then he commanded Wu Dahu to go the other direction.

Although Wu Dahu didn’t know why the director suddenly paid attention to him so closely, he still obediently chose a direction where no one was present, speeding up his pace and heading to the farther woods.

On the way heading to the farther place, Wu Dahu just found that the monk fruits and seasonings were all picked and no trace of them could be found now. It would still be a valuable wander if he could find another spot where those plants grew.

With such a thought, he didn’t care much about tracing the prey but commence studying the plants around.

After discovering a few new locations, he finally straightened his attitude and decided to display his vigor to hunt a big prey. In that case, he wouldn’t steal the others’ thunder and yet, that wouldn’t be a perfunctory effort for this mission.

As he walked, he found that the traces on the road seemed to be too messy, as if there was a prey bigger than a tiger passing by here.

He frowned and thought about it for a while, and decided to go over to check it out. But at the moment he walked through the thick bush, he made a misstep all of a sudden and fell into a pitfall which was seemingly made by another hunter.

Fortunately, thought such a pitfall was quite deep, there erupted no pointed bamboo pile at all at the bottom. Otherwise, he must have been riddled with a thousand gaping wounds by the traps.

But unfortunately, he wasn’t alone right down here. As he regained his attention, he saw a femina man just standing right in front of him.

The femina man did nothing but just screamed as if he just met a tiger falling from the ground and stuck himself tightly to the cob wall by his back. He stared at Wu Dahu nervously, and asked tentatively, “Are you dead or still alive? I suppose that you’re not a ghost, right?”

Wu Dahu coughed, swept away the dust on his shoulder and said nothing as response. And then he raised his head again measuring the length of his arms to the mouth of the pitfall.

What did the hunter who dug this trap think? It would be nothing dumb if he just chose not to set some pointed bamboo pile in here, it was just nothing but time-consuming and strength-consuming task to dig such a hole in such a depth. Even if any animals fell into this pit, how would he get the prey up from here?

Though Wu Dahu had criticized the hunter in his mind for hundred times, he still kept his expression as a rather calm one. He just glanced around and commenced thinking of some ways out.

Noticing that Wu Dahu just keeping an indifferent face, the fright in the femina man’s mind blew away, he just got his arms folded across his chest, mumbling, “HEY? Are you deaf or something? Hello? Can you hear me? You deaf!”

Wu Dahu was just standing there thinking, and then he was interrupted all of a sudden by the annoying femina man. He got irritated, and then glanced at the femina man with his eyes full of anger, shouting, “SHUT UP!”

The femina man was startled and jumped up a little bit like a frightened rabbit. His feet scratched the yellow sand on the ground as if he was entirely frightened and intended to stepped back against the cob wall.
