The ruffian, who was gripping the weapon tightly in hand, felt increasingly exhausted as the time passed, he noticed by a side glance that those judges released their expression of relief at once and came to know they indeed were more in favor of Wu Dahu. And all of a sudden, the wrath overwhelmed his eyes.
Wu Dahu read the unease and anxiety from the ruffian’s face, and then he quickened his movement. While with that fierce and nimble attack, the ruffian was forced till he almost dropped off from the stage.
Suddenly, the ruffian roared and managed to stabilize his body on the stage as if he had exploded his potential in a desperate situation, and then jumped to his feet till he was right behind Wu Dahu.
Seeing that Wu Dahu hadn’t turned back, the ruffian cast off his sleeves and then waved them behind intentionally.
A pile of nearly invisible white powder was spread and diffused in the air. It might be difficult for someone to notice such a peculiar stuff!
Sure enough, after Wu Dahu turned back, he continued to pounce at the ruffian like he did not find anything strange for him.
Song Qinghan, who had been watching the situation between them, naturally found the powder. He got tense suddenly and blurred out, “Dahu, watch out!â€
With an utter bewilderment, Wu Dahu calmed himself down while gazing at the ruffian. He noticed that the ruffian was not only equipped with a fierce weapon but a creepy smile full of evilness, just as he was about to take another round of attack, the sudden weakness in his legs made him stumble while he almost fell onto the weapon the ruffian took.
The situation on the stage was just like an changeable weather, reversed greatly all of a sudden. And the ruffian commenced having the upper hand at the time Wu Dahu was seemingly being weakened. With several rounds of counterattack, Wu Dahu was forced to retract with panting breath while blood kept flowing out from his mouth.
However, every time Wu Dahu reached the edge of the stage, he could always escape from the further attack of the ruffian as if it was the ruffian who deliberately let go of him.
Looking at the ruffian whose face was assuming an expression of sarcasm, Wu Dahu got his mind exploded suddenly, but the wrath failed him to say anything. What he could do now was to grit his teeth tightly while adapting to the weakening body which was gradually losing control.
Song Qinghan held the Little Shitou tightly in his arms while frowning with all concentration looking at Wu Dahu. He was rather anxious to drag Wu Dahu out of the stage.
Wu Dahu might get serious injured if he persisted in fighting with that fraudulent and monstrous BEAST!
He didn’t blame Wu Dahu for leaving the promise he made to him behind. After all, as a man, he totally understood how angry and grudge Wu Dahu was now when facing such an unscrupulous trick.
Moreover, he almost won the game if everything just went smooth. How could a man with ambition just let it go?!
As Wu Dahu was once again forced to the edge of the stage, the ruffian seemed to have teased enough on Wu Dahu, and then he just approached and stepped on Wu Dahu’s back, mocking, “Such a trash! WHERE IS YOUR PROUD BEEN? HAHA! Do you finally know what your grandpa got now? Huh?â€
Wu Dahu struggled to raise his hand, grabbed the ruffian’s leg and squeezed out a sentence between his teeth.
“My… my grandfather had already… died!â€
As soon as he finished the last bit of his words, he burst out a great strength on his hand all of a sudden and grabbed the leg of the ruffian throwing him overturned. And after that, fists fell on the bulky figure without pausing.
He didn’t show any mercy when he punched the ruffian on the back. After several rounds of beating, it could be seen that the ruffian got his eye rolled and white and then passed out suddenly, motionlessly like a puppet.
This turn of events came so fast. Before everyone could clearly see what happened, they found that Wu Dahu had already recaptured the upper hand and awaited the announcement.
“Stop, stop, stop! Wu Dahu is the winner!â€
Seeing that Wu Dahu was still beating the ruffian without any intention to stop, the judges shouted and ordered mediator to separate them.
Song Qinghan rushed up like a gust of wind, and he supported Wu Dahu by the arms, glaring at the ruffian who lying on the ground and roaring, “He played some tricks on my husband, and spread some unknown powder to him. I demand an examination in his sleeve and hand!â€
The judges stared at each other without words, not knowing what they should react.
Those who can be a judge are more or less old, and their eyesight were not that kind of good. In addition, they had gotten exhaustion of watching the whole rounds of battle, it is impossible for them to focus on certain one of them all the time. Therefore, it wasn’t their faults if they didn’t find out the trick just happened, they just thought that it was just out of Wu Dahu’s mentality which offered the best chance for the ruffian to fight back.
In the end, Old Zhu took the initiative to speak, he lowered his voice, saying, “Someone gets Doctor Shi from Huichun Shop here, let him check out whether Wu Dahu was drugged by something and whether that bulky hid some prohibited drugs with himself personally!â€
Old Man Gao nodded and echoed, “Right, and for the fair of the whole competition, everybody steps back! Leave these two alone on the stage!â€
Though Song Qinghan knew such a suggestion was quite fair, he still got a bit unsatisfied. Looking at the husband who was lying on the stage lonely without any assistance, he felt SO BAD.
Not long, Doctor Shi arrived, and beside him stood Yuan Wenxuan. Seeing that Song Qinghan was standing there alone with full of sorrow, Yuan Wenxuan approached and was about to console. But at the second thought, he paused in the consideration that he might incur the other’s suspicion, and then he followed Doctor Shi’s lead and checked Wu Dahu’s situation.
The two of them worked together and quickly found out the drug’s class: Heartlessness Herb.
As Doctor Shi described, those who got drugged by such a herb would be acting like a puppet as long as they got a vibrant mood swings with affection feelings would be acting stiffly with a faint consciousness. Such a herb was originated from the remote Southern region and used for better controlling ones’ subordinates. Yet with the widespread because of the wars and migration, this herb gradually became a harmful method and was used by some people with evil thoughts.
The reason why it was said to be a method of harming people was not only because of the unusual reaction of people after being poisoned, but also because the antidote was rare, and the treatment period must be divided into seven sections, once a week.
Song Qinghan sank into silence for a long while as he was informed by such a news, he didn’t speak until Doctor Shi confirmed the fact that the poisoner was nobody but the ruffian, “Doctor Shi, is it difficult to find the trace of the antidote? Would you tell me the detail?â€
He now was rather sorrow with helplessness, but he still recognized that he was the pivot now in this family and had to bear the responsibility to stay rational and calm and tried his best to figure out a way to get it through.
Dr. Shi sighed heavily and stroked his beard. “Well, I can get the other medical ingredients easily in Huichun Shop. The most troublesome problem is that it’s hard to get the snowlotus on the icy mountain. Probably it can only be found in the Imperial Palace, however…â€
Though Doctor Shi didn’t finished his words, Song Qinghan could figure out what he meant: However, Wu Dahu is just an ordinary folk with a plain fate, it’s impossible for him to get such an invaluable stuff from the Imperial Palace.
The yamen runner had come and taken the ruffian away from the stage, and the audiences dissipated. Song Qinghan made a bow with hands folded in front to Doctor Shi, saying, “Doctor Shi, I will appreciate if you can get me some information about the exact location of the snowlotus except the Imperial Palace, I will try my best to find it out too. If there are no more further information, I will go alone myself to the icy mountain.â€
Doctor Shi was utterly shocked as he heard Song Qinghan’s words, and then he hurriedly dissuaded, “How? The trip to the icy mountain posts various risks. How come you as a femina male go alone? You might encounter something and probably die out of your expectation before you reach the mountain!â€
Although his words were unpleasant, they were reasonable. Therefore, Song Qinghan smiled faintly, “Thanks for reminding, Doctor Shi. But it is the only way I can do now right, if I still get other choices I won’t just take that risk like a fool does.â€
In other words, this method has not been excluded from his choice.
Doctor Shi figured out the other meaning in Song Qinghan’s words, he shook his head and spoke no more to dissuade Song Qinghan because he knew Song Qinghan was always a man of decisiveness, even eight horses would fail to work altogether to drag him back as long as he had already made up his mind. So as for Doctor Shi, the only way he could do to stop Song Qinghan heading to the icy mountain was to try his best to help Song Qinghan out finding the extremely rare snowlotus.
Old Zhu and Old Man Gao also came over and showed their willingness to mobilize their labors to help Song Qinghan find the exact location of the snowlotus. Even though it was a dog‘s chance to find a rare stuff like that, it still brought a hope to Song Qinghan.
Well, such a large human source! Wouldn’t it be easy for them to find out a flower even though it was rare?
As Wu Dahu regained his consciousness again, he was already on his own bed at home. Song Qinghan came in with a bowl in one of his hands while the other one taking a spoon scooping up the congee inside the bowl. He approached while zoning out as if he was thinking of something, and didn’t even notice that Wu Dahu had already woken up.
Wu Dahu coughed lightly and looked down to see that his wounds had been bandaged. Knowing that it was Song Qinghan’s contribution, he said softly, “Han, I might have troubled you so much again. I am sorry that I couldn’t control my own temple on the stage. I don’t even know why I was so impulse of motion.â€
Song Qinghan came back to his senses and smiled. He fed the congee into Wu Dahu’s mouth and comforted him, “It’s okay. Everything will just be fine as long as you’re still living.â€
Previously, Wu Dahu had already fallen into a comma when Doctor Shi came to visit him. Therefore, Wu Dahu didn’t know their latter conversation at all, he seemed to have guess something from the serious tone of Song Qinghan, and then he frowned and asked, “Do I get seriously poisoned? Even Doctor Shi has no idea to help?â€
Noticing that Wu Dahu suddenly got a stiff body with unnatural expression, Song Qinghan hurriedly explained, “Don’t be angry, as far as I am concerned, the poison you got probably is related to your mood swings. And once you get yourself a intense change of your emotion, the symptom of poison will emerge.â€
This was a final conclusion made by himself after a deliberate consideration. He would never believe anything about the so-called “Heartless Effect†after all. It was just a tiny amount of powder, how is it possible for it being so potent to recognize human’s mood swings and come into force as long as the victim got an emotional change with affection?
Therefore, there was only one possibility, which was to expand the scope of “mood†and include every possible emotion of human beings. Once it exceeded a certain threshold, the herbs would come into force. This was probably the most reasonable explanation that Song Qinghan could think of.
As for why people in the past would draw a conclusion that it was actually an effect of “poisoned when with affection feelingsâ€, Song Qinghan guessed that it was because within the seven emotions and six desires, only when people got affection to someone could make it possible to exceed the threshold, in the meantime it was the most lasting emotion. That’s why people would ignore the other emotions and bother themselves with this one.
