A Western Doctor’s Happy Farming Life[1] 144

A+ A-

The rest two who advanced to the top three didn’t have get the chance to have a trial combat with Wu Dahu these rest days. Yet Wu Dahu did have some impressions on them, probably it was because they were too low key which impressed Wu Dahu the most.

Wu Dahu did not underestimate their strength. After the competition, he had carefully observed both sides of the battle. He knew that one of the two was good at close combat and the other was good at distance combat. Not only that, both of them had the strength to ignore the their rival’s strength. They could defeat the rivals at the fastest speed and win the competition without any dragging process.

Wu Dahu was the first to go on stage and fight with the person who was good at distance combat.

The man was not surprised when he saw Wu Dahu pick up a long spear. He remained his calmness on face as if he had known in advance that Wu Dahu was quite good at using spear either. Or, probably he had already seen the consequence no matter what weapon Wu Dahu would pick.

After the battle started, the two of them abandoned the so-called probing and collided fiercely. ‘Clicking!’, the two spears in their hands sounded violently, several sparks were igniting in the air caused by the fierce crash,

Song Qinghan’s heart tightened when he saw the scene. Little Shitou opened his mouth slightly with his eyes wide open, as if he knew the fact that the battle on the current stage wasn’t an unusual one. He curled up without any motion in Song Qinghan’s arms, silently staring at the stage.

After dozens of movements, the two of them separated on both sides of the stage. They looked at each other with their eyes blazed with fire.

Sure enough, he who could enter the final competition could not be underestimated!

The man seemed to be more serious. The long spear in his hand moved fast as it seemed to emit countless unreal images, he who stared at it couldn’t even catch the real thing-in-itself.

Wu Dahu got a profounder skill at close combat than distance one after all, so he seemed to struggle a bit in defense, he could not even find a chance to get close to that man. In that case, he could only passively dodge every attack of the man, and several times almost fell out of the stage, and then he reversed the direction in the air and landed back in the stage.

Both of them were tough enough mentally, in the battle that lasted for a whole half an hour, none of them showed any cracks that they shouldn’t have, or made any mistakes that they shouldn’t make.

It seemed that the deadlock would continue to exist. Suddenly Wu Dahu threw the spear in his hands without hesitation, but then after several rounds of beating back, he was threatened to fall off the stage at anytime.

The audience cried out in alarm, seemingly all of them were in the same boat with Wu Dahu.

They seemed to show a high expectation towards Wu Dahu becoming the final champion. In addition, probably cheered by Song Qinghan just then, they didn’t want to see the candidate they admired the most disappointed them.

In fact, the reason why Wu Dahu abandoned the spear in his hands was naturally because he found that if he continued to act like this being in a weak position, he would only lose his confidence by the hardheaded movement of that man. Moreover, he could only keep himself in defense if he grabbed the spear in hands, only by throwing the spear could he conceive of other ways, staking all on one cast of the dice to force the man to expose his own weakness. And after that, he could find a chance to pounce on and turn the situation into a close combat, and win the round by just a hit.

Sure enough, after a few moves, Wu Dahu finally got his tempo of the battle back again. Yet the other party wasn’t a weak one either. While Wu Dahu was adjusting his postures transferring into a close combat, the man also accelerated the speed of the attack. The spear in his hands moved faster and faster, and finally Wu Dahu still lost the game by the fierce weapon attack of that man.

Noise of disappointment sounded in the scene, yet Wu Dahu did not deliver them any exaggerated expression but show his calmness. In fact, he had already foreseen the result himself, the attempt discarding his spear was actually his first try in such a situation. It would be good if he succeeded, but he wouldn’t feel regretful if it didn’t work at all because he had already tried his best.

Wu Dahu was named again for the next round of battle, and the competitor he would compete with was the other man.

Towards the bad luck of his lots draw, Wu Dahu just smiled and accepted the result calmly. He loosened his muscles and stood on the stage again.

Song Qinghan had basically guessed the result. He couldn’t help glancing at the femina man in the judge’s seat. He could clearly see that the femina man was putting on a face of unease, so he thought that the femina man was just dissatisfied with Wu Dahu’s performance. Well, that would be a good news for him because at least Wu Dahu’s imperfect performance might keep this seemingly petty man away.

Being able to rest and unable to rest were completely two different situations. After the game started, Wu Dahu made a defensive posture and saw that the other party didn’t take the opportunity to attack. He was a little surprised and raised his eyebrows, “Are you giving me the chance?”

The other party looked smaller than Wu Dahu in figure, but his voice was buzzing. He answered, “It would be unfair to you if I attack you right away because you just finished the last round. I will lend you a quarter to get a rest. During your rest time, you can choose to attack me if you want, or, you can stay still to enjoy your resting time, I won’t take the initiative to attack you anyway. I just fight back when the time’s up.”

Wu Dahu couldn’t help laughing, and then twisted his wrists, responding, “Are you sure? Are you that confident about yourself?”

The man didn’t say anything but his determined expression explained what he was gonna say.

However, Wu Dahu didn’t really attack. Instead, he sat cross-legged on the spot and closed his eyes to recuperate. He seemed to have completely believed the other party’s words, and was not worried that he would suddenly be kicked off the stage.

The judges looked at each other with shock as if they had never seen such a harmonious scene in the final tournament before.

After a while, the atmosphere on the stage became a little anxious. After all, these people came here to watch the intense competition, but not to see the candidates getting along harmoniously.

The judges whispered to each other but no one knew what they were talking about. And after that, someone walked down from the judge’s seat, and seemingly approaching to Wu Dahu and trying to wake him up.

However, before the judge reached out to touch Wu Dahu’s shoulder, he was clamped tightly by his wrist by a powerful force. And then he raised his head in astonishment, meeting the eyes of the other candidate who was still on the stage.

“Don’t try to bother him, or I will show you something.”

Though he said so in such a quiet voice, the words still resounded in this scene in dead silence. After that, another wave of cheer sounded again among the audience, and this time they seemed to be more excited.

Noticing that the audience started to cheer the other candidate up by shouting his name, Song Qinghan heaved a sigh of relief suddenly and secretly, and then he deliberately looked over to the judge’s seat trying to discern the expression of that femina man. Beyond his expectation, he happened to meet the sight with that femina man.

Although it was just a moment of eye contact, Song Qinghan still felt his heart tighten. Nothing but because that femina man’s eyes were as cold as ice with an imposing manner. If it was not the embellishment of that port-wine tiny cinnabar mole at the corner of the his eye for neutralizing the icy temperament, his pair of pupils must be like the ones of those ferocious wild animals.

Seeing that Song Qinghan quickly lowered his head with disappointment flashed across his eyes. The femina man’s fingers on the handle moved slightly again, and he whispered to the servant beside him, “Go investigate, find out all the details for me.”

His servant seemed to be very clear about what the femina man wanted to investigate. Without asking too much, he bowed and left silently.

A quarter passed fast, Wu Dahu opened his eyes suddenly as if he had sensed it, he smiled to the man on the stage, “Glad that you’re generous, I’ve regained most of my strength, enough for another battle.”

His opponent nodded and didn’t say anything. He squatted slight while clenching his buttocks, and then pounced on Wu Dahu without mercy.

When the martial arts come with a fast movement, it will be invincible. This actually makes sense. Seemingly the man was moving slowly and dully, yet only the ones who were in the actual scene would come to know how fast the man punched. Wu Dahu fixed his sight on the man’s fists meticulously, he knew it would be too late for him to dodge. In that case, he stretched forth his fist directly, and took the man’s attack.

The two bare fists collided. Wu Dahu was forced by the power to take three steps back, and he then looked at the man incredibly, asking subconsciously, “Are you born with innate super power?”

The man chuckled, set his posture again and calmly said, “You put up an impressive fight.”

Wu Dahu looked down and saw that the man was still standing on the original spot without moving. He knew that the possibility for him to win the game was just faint, so he smiled unrestrainedly, and then uttered brightly, “I will gain more than I will lose even if I lose the game, it will be a harvest for me.”

After that, he didn’t waste any more time and took the initiative to attack the man.

After dozens of moves, Wu Dahu unintentionally fell off the platform, but he still remained his calmness and excitement on his face. He looked up at the man and said in a low voice, “You must be the most promising candidate among the peers, it’s my pleasure to have a fight with you!”

The man looked stunned, but after reacting to Wu Dahu’s words, he pursed his lips and nodded gently.

After the competition on the stage was over, they had to prepare for the forest hunt in the afternoon.

Although Wu Dahu was temporarily in third place, he didn’t seem to be discouraged at all. He walked over to Song Qinghan and took over Little Shitou and carried him in his arms, saying happily, “That guy gets an innate power, so I am not discouraged at all towards the result. But the contest this afternoon, I have a full confidence on it. Speaking of the hunting, at least I should be the top two.”

Song Qinghan looked a little absent-minded and looked up at the judge’s seat again. Seeing that the female man had left in advance, he secretly sighed.

Though Wu Dahu was still immersed himself in the excitement of the battle he had just experienced, he still caught the expression on Song Qinghan’s face. Looking over by the direction of Song Qinghan’s sight, he frowned and asked, “What bothered you over there?”

Song Qinghan might still be able to hold it on if everything came with no omen. Yet since premonition did happen, there was no need for him now to hide it up, so Song Qinghan confessed everything about what happened just then and what he guessed in his mind to Wu Dahu.

Wu Dahu paused for a moment, as if he didn’t expect something like that. He assumed an expression of embarrassment on his face, and then responded hesitantly, “Then maybe I should reserve my strength, and try to pursue the the third prize?”

After all, only after entering the top three could he get the Emperor’s summons and get a certain position as a government official. Otherwise, even if the candidate performed well in the competition, his success still relied on the others’ support.

Song Qinghan shook his head and seemed to have no idea. After pondering for a moment, he decisively said, “Try your best to win! The outsiders can’t witness that after all, in it and win it! You might get a bright future if you’re going to get a decent job from the government official, and at that time we probably will have a chance to leave here.”

Wu Dahu thought about it for a while and thought that it did make sense about what Song Qinghan said. After all, there would be lots of uncontrollable factors in every kind of competitions, it would be hard for him to get himself a third prize. And it would be a huge loss if the others hunted a lot more preys than he got, then he wouldn’t have a chance to get to the top three. In addition, only getting stronger in power and material base could he have the strength to resist the similar involuntary events.

After lunch, a lineup march forward with great strength and vigour riding on their own carriages to the dense woods.
