“That’s it really? I would think 25 year old’s in the city would have more exciting lives” Noah joked. Stiles had just gotten finished recounting his last few days to his father since their call the previous night had been postponed, needless to say Derek wasn’t apart of the summary. But his father always called with the intention of his son reporting crazy adventures back to him. The simple fact was this: Stiles’ life wasn’t interesting. Or at least it hadn’t been, then he met Derek and he isn’t so sure what to call his life now.

“Yeah sorry to disappoint” Stiles laughed into the camera.

He watched his dad rub at his temple, a tell tale sign he was about to start his goodbye “Alright well-“

“Actually” he sighed. Stiles had been trying to psych himself up to tell his father all week. He considered a text message but his dad wasn’t the best at that and he’d end up calling Stiles anyways “Th-There is…this one thing. I mean it’s-I…I um…I found him, I found my soul mate”

“You did?” His eyebrows were touching his hairline and for a moment Noah only gazed through the camera to his son. Stiles decided to keep his mouth shut and wait patiently, but off camera his knee was bouncing dangerously “I-wow-I don’t even know what to… How was that?”

“It wasn’t good at first. I ignored him for months-“

“Wait, months! Why didn’t you tell me?” His dad shouted, and Stiles realized that was the reaction he was waiting for.

“I didn’t expect it to go anywhere dad. There wasn’t really a point in telling you”

“That sounds like your thinking has changed”

Stiles sighed, resting his head on his fist “It has. Derek, he’s really…he’s honestly great. I didn’t really want to give him a chance at first. But I’ve been trying lately and it’s been nice, I guess”

“I like that smile I’m seeing son. So will I see him when I come out for Christmas?”

Stiles laughed because that was just like his father, ready to welcome anyone with open arms, but he knew him well enough to know it was just a ploy to interrogate Derek “He might be out with his own family dad that’s-“

“No excuses son. Go on and tell me about him, he’s got a lot of explaining to do, but I’m happy things seem to be going well for you”

“Actually, Derek is going to be here soon for dinner so…”

“Of course, of course. I expect a formal introduction though, soon” Stiles offered a wave of his hand as a response before he hung up. He had dinner in the oven he needed to tend to.

As it was known Stiles baked when he was stressed and boy was he. His anxiety was primarily caused by the fact that he was going to in fact try to woo Derek tonight. It was true that they were already destined to be together for life, but Stiles was going to get the gears really going. The surprise lunch was only step one, step two would be to wine and dine. Food was all he had ever known so it was what he was using.

It was ten ’til eight so Derek would be arriving any minute and no matter how good it probably looked Stiles still felt something was missing. Taking a breath he stepped back and observed his dining room. On the table was asparagus, sliced potatoes, steak smothered in sautéed mushrooms. He had candles lit, but not the twelve inch kind, it was the small ones he got for cheap at Bath and Body Works. The table cloth on the table was old but passed as just good enough. Stiles was not a drinker but for the occasion he thought his favorite bottle of red wine was well warranted.

Something was still eating at him, and while he was trying to figure out what it was his phone pinged

>FROM Derek- 7:55pm

Hey. I’m right around the corner. Can’t wait to see you

Letting out an unmanly squeak Stiles realized he was still in his cooking clothes. He decided his attempts would have to be good enough and he darted to his room. What did he wear on a date? Isaac wore a lot of scarves but Stiles didn’t own any. Scott wore the same jean jacket every single time but they’d be inside and Stiles didn’t see a point in it. He gnawed on his lip, torn between a bright red long sleeve usually reserved for Christmas, and a black and white striped button down he wore once when he wanted to spice up his wardrobe. Half naked, Stiles tousled his hair and wondered why things were so hard.

In a flash headlights were bypassing his window which meant Derek was just pulling in. He scoffed and tossed the button up onto the bed before throwing the red sweater over his head. Only catching a glimpse of himself in a nearby mirror. Stiles managed to run frantic hands through his hair. Overall appearance was as good as it was going to get, he only hoped he didn’t sweat through it.

In a frantic manner Stiles slid to a stop to pull open his front door. In a matter of seconds Derek was there, on display before him “Stiles. You look great, really beautiful” He complimented Stiles, sweeping his eyes up and down his body.

Stiles blushed feeling the exact opposite of himself. He took the liberty to wrap Derek in a hug and the latter accepted it generously. He tightened his arms around Stiles’ lean frame “Thanks. Come on in” Derek held onto bony fingers as he nodded in response.

Stiles tried not to but he couldn’t help it. He stared Derek down once he led him inside and watched the reaction when the dinner came into view. The man was definitely speechless, but was it from being impressed, Stiles still couldn’t figure it out. He scratched at the back of his head “I went over board din’t I?”

“Wha-No of course not I just…It look so great Stiles” he managed to get Stiles pressed against his front so they both had their arms wrapped around each other “Thank you. Really”

“It was nothing” he said, forgetting the hours of stress he had put himself under “Wanna eat?” Derek surprised him with a peck to the nose before sweeping his jacket off and settling into a the dinning room chair. Stiles could already feel his heart beating in his ears.

Okay. You got this Stilinski he whispered to himself. The moment they sat down Stiles decided he’d make sure to spend the next few hours figuring out more about Derek “So how was work?” He asked the question while nonchalantly topping Derek’s plate off with asparagus and a couple of potatoes.

“Not too bad” he begun and sliced into his steak “Phone calls, blueprints, thinking about you, all that jazz”

“Me?”

“Of course. You’re always on my mind” He admitted proudly “So how was your day?”

Stiles shrugged, momentarily distracted by Derek’s hum as he first tasted the food “Pretty tame. I baked a bit, and I spoke to my dad for an hour or so”

“Are you ever not baking?” he chuckled.

“It’s soothing. And just so happened to be a talent that came easy to me. And when I was in high school I was always looking for something to occupy my mind”

“Why’s that?”

“Needless to say Scott was my only friend for the longest time, but he was also popular, ya’know lacrosse captain and what not. My dad was the sheriff so he was always at the station and tried to be there as much as he could be. So I always had to cook for myself. When I was sad, when I felt down, I was in the kitchen. I spent quite a bit of time alone, I didn’t realize just how much until I was older” Stiles explained as if it were nothing, because to him it wasn’t.

But to Derek it seemed to mean a lot because he was dropping his fork to squeeze his hand “Well I hope you understand you have me now”

“I do”

6. Derek liked to reassure Stiles he would never be alone again.

Finally, an hour or so later, Derek shoved the last potato into his mouth, a content smile on his face. Stiles sighed, he had enjoyed a nice night with Derek. They ate everything Stiles made and had decent conversations that didn’t consist too much of awkwardness. For a moment it felt like they had been that way since the beginning.

“So how was it?”

“Good as always-Where are you taking those?” He asked as Stiles stood from the table with the plates in his arms.

“Kitchen, going to grab some dessert” Stiles three the response over his shoulder as he skillfully walked the dirty dishes to the sink. He reappeared moments later with two plates. Stiles had prepared dessert as well which should not have come as a shocker.

“What’s this?”

Still standing Stiles placed the pie before him “Key lime pie. You said you’d never had it so I whipped some up. O-Or, I have a couple soufflés I’ve been thinking about adding to the menu if you want to try th-” He was mid way back to the kitchen when he felt Derek’s resistance, tugging for him to sit down.

“How about we sit down. And you tell me why you’re all fidgety” Derek asked. Stiles wasn’t shocked the guy saw right through him. He had been quite squirmy here and there throughout the entire night.

Dumbly he asked “I am?”

Derek gave him a look that was meant to say “really?” and Stiles knew he had successfully failed at being subtle “Yes? Now tell me why”

Sinking into his seat Stiles trained his eyes on the pie as he spoke “I told you I’m not good at anything and this–this is me trying”

“Trying to…”

“Say thank you for everything. Say that I’m happy you’re around and happy that we’re working things out. I’m trying to say…” he cleared his throat and let his words tapper off. He needed to be an adult and just lay it on the table “I’ve really been wanting to get close to you lately, and it’s making me kind of wonky” Stiles honestly dumbed down what he really wanted to say, which was that he had been wanting to kiss Derek’s face for the last week. He wanted to feel biceps around him and hear Derek’s laugh.

“Stiles, you don’t have to stuff me full of food to get something you want” he joked.

“It’s all I know how to do”

In a swift moment Derek was grabbing each of Stiles’ hands, practically forcing eye contact. Whatever he was gearing up to say next, he want the man to know he meant it “Stiles, I’m yours. Completely. I get you’re new to the dating scene but it doesn’t have to be so hard. You don’t have to do a song and dance to tell me something, you just tell me. You want to go see a movie? Tell me. You need my help cooking? Go ahead and ask. You want to make out like teenagers say-“

“That one” Stiles found himself quickly cutting off Derek’s lovely speech.

Derek blinked at him “What?”

Stiles tried to continue to speak around the fast growing lump in his throat “That one, I want to do that one. Th-The last one”

Derek ran his suddenly sweaty palms down his jeans “R-Really?”

“I mean if you want to of course, I would like to. I’ve never really gotten the chance to make out like a teenager, even when I was one” Derek managed a smile before he leaned over the corner of the table. Oh this is happening now? Stiles’ last thought rushed through his brain before he was propelling himself forward to plant his lips onto Derek’s. He cursed himself for acting like a newbie, but he made sure not to make anymore rookie mistakes again.

In an effort to make it equally satisfying Stiles tried to mimic Derek’s moves. It was slow and gentle in the beginning and both men seemed to be enjoying it. But after a while Stiles’ neck had started to ache, and Derek’s hand slipped from the table one to many times trying to hold himself up.

He ended up being the first to pull away and note “This isn’t very comfortable”

“No, it isn’t” Stiles laughed, his giggles hitting Derek square in the face. The playfulness died down and suddenly they were gazing longingly at each other “M-Maybe we can go to the sofa?”

“Sure” Derek was to his feet so fast, his knees hit hard against the legs of the table. He laced his hand with Stiles’ and walked him through the dinning room door to the living room. Derek sunk into the sofa picking the end of the sectional where he could kick his legs up. Stiles propped beside him, tucking his own legs under his body, eager to pick up where they left off.

With more range for movement Derek seemed excited. He wound his arms quickly though Stiles’ middle shortly after their lips reconnected. The younger boy really enjoyed the feeling of Derek’s hands on him, and he enjoyed moving his hands all over Derek. Stiles never seen himself as a shallow person, but in that moment, as he constantly grazed Derek’s body, he was extremely happy his soulmate had a rock hard six pack. He was really thankful for it.

Derek kissed like he meant every second of it. His tongue sweeping across Stiles’, his hand dragging through auburn hair, even the way he bit down on Stiles’ lip making him groan. Everything he did was with confidence. Stiles on the other hand kissed timidly. Like he was anxiously waiting to dive in but knew he didn’t know enough just yet. But Derek liked it, he kneaded his hands into Stiles lower back for encouragement.

Needing air, Stiles’ head was spinning when he pulled back. He gripped at Derek’s shoulder, then the couch, then Derek again looking for anything that could balance him out. Stiles had never been kissed before and he never wanted anyone else but Derek  to kiss him again “You are…wow you’re really really good at that”

“I think we’re just good together”
