I looked through my flashcards for the speech that I was supposed to give during the assembly and I have never been this nervous to go to school.

“What are those?”Brady pointed at my flashcards.

“It’s for my speech,” I said.

“Right,” He mumbled,” Mr. Vice President have  to keep himself busy.”

“I’m very nervous,” I said honestly.

“I’m sure you’ll do great.”He pulled over at the school. I was about to get out of the car but he stopped me, “You should have this.”He took off his watch and gave it to me, “It’s my good luck charm.”

I looked at the watch and it was a vintage Rolex watch. It looked kinda pricey for someone working at the sheriff’s station.

“It was my dad’s.”He added, “So if you’re nervous just look at it and you can know that I’m rooting for you at the station.” He said with a smile, “Don’t loose it tho

“Thank you, Brady.”I said genuinely, “This is…I appreciate it.”

“You should get inside.”He suggested.

“Yeah,” I nodded, “I’ll see you later for some Dexter time.”

“Cool.”He said casually and I got out of the car to go prepare with Tess.

I went inside the prep room and walked into Tess panicking over something while the others comfort her. She was wearing shades and that was kinda suspicious for her.

“What’s wrong?”I asked her.

“This happened.”She took off her glasses to show us her swollen eyes, “Someone spike nuts in my food. I’m allergic to nuts.”

“It’s not that bad,” I assured.

It was terrible.

“Yeah, “Laurel agreed, “We can use make-up.”

“Like make-up is gonna work on this,” Dan mumbled sarcastically.

“I say that you should go out there like this,” Roy suggested.

“What if people laugh at me?”She said in a worried tone.

Roy went on his knees to face Tess, who was sitting on the chair, “No one loves you for your looks even though you’re smoking. People love you because of your awesome personality.”He explained, “That’s why I love you.”

“You do?”She asked in a surprised tone.

“I’ll be crazy not to,” Roy assured.

“I love you too.”She said and hugged her boyfriend. She let go of him fast tho, “Okay, we have an election to win.”

All of us couldn’t help but smile at what just happened. Roy was really great to Tess because of how supportive he was and if I ever get a boyfriend, I would like him to be like Roy…but not Roy. Don’t get me wrong, he is attractive but he’s…Roy. He’s an idiot but we love him for that.

I went on stage with Tess and we sat on a seat that for the three candidates and some teachers with the principal.

Cindy was the first one to start her speech, “Vote for me because I’m obviously the best candidate. I’ll make sure that everyone’s voices will be heard.”

“What the fuck?”Tess muttered during Cindy’s speech.

“What?”I asked.

“That’s my speech.”She clenched her teeth,” She stole it. She must have gotten to my computer.”

“Are you sure it’s the same?”I whispered.

“Yes, I’m sure.”She said angrily,

After Cindy was done, she smirked at Tess before taking a seat.

It was Tess turn to give a speech. She started by taking the shades off, “I know that I look like shit right now-“

“Language.”The principal warned while everyone laughed.

“I know that I look terrible right now.”She corrected but would you rather have a president like me or a bitch like Cindy Paula?”

“Miss McNelly.”The principal warned again.

“Let’s make a fast check on Cindy.”Tess said with a devious smile, “One, she is one of the worst people I know and she acts like a spoiled brat. Two, her daddy has paid for everything that she has gotten. Hell, I’m surprised that she didn’t have her father win this election for her. Do you want another privileged white girl to continue getting what she wants?”She then turned to Cindy, who was glaring at her, “The truth is Cindy, you ain’t shit. You have never worked for anything in your entire life unlike the rest of us. I’m ending my speech with FUCK you.”She dropped the mic and stormed away.

For some reason, everyone was cheering for her like crazy.

The principal picked up the microphone, “Today’s assembly is cut short due to-“

He was cut off by a bunch of boos from people that supported Tess.

“No way.”Brady chuckled, “I didn’t know that your friend is a badass.”

“So did I.”I said with a grin, “At least I didn’t have to do my speech.

We just finished the first season of Dexter and decided to wait it out before we start the next season so we just talked until my father comes back.

Brady and I had gotten a lot closer the past few days and I felt like I have unlocked something new from him. He talks more and occasionally makes jokes but he still hasn’t opened up to me. Not that I wanted him to.

“So, “I started, “Anything interesting happened to you at work today?”

“I was in charge of the paperwork today.” He mentioned, “So, not much action.”

Our eyes met and I felt like something was attracting us to looked at each other because of the way he looked at me with those green eyes, I almost got goosebumps.

“Umm,” He looked away, “Do you want to get something to eat outside?”He was struggling to make eye contact with me.

“Yeah, sure, “I said awkwardly.

We went to a diner together. The seats were cotton red and the walls were blue, there were a few electric guitars hanged to the ceiling and a stereo on the corner. It was something out of the 80s, which I loved.

“Hey, Brady, haven’t seen you around.” The older guy said.

“Yeah, work has been crazy,” He said to the guy.

“And you got a friend.”He smiled at me,
“I’m Carl. I own this place.”

“Nice to meet you, “I said politely.

“What can I get you, boys?”He asked.

“The usual,” Brady said.

I examined the menu, “I’ll have some fries and strawberry milkshake.”I said and closed the menu.

Carl went away to prepare our food.

“You come here a lot?”I asked Brady.

“Yeah, I used to come here with Ryan all the time when we were in the foster care system.”He said casually.

“You and Ryan were friends?”I raised my eyebrows.

“Yeah,” He shrugged, “We used to be like brothers, and then he started to be friends with some sketchy people. I actually joined him when he ran away to stay with this stupid gang but I got out of it real quick after-“He choked on his own words, “After I was forced to do terrible things.”

I don’t know the full story but it looks like he regretted doing whatever he did and I couldn’t help but feel bad for him.

“I’m sorry.”I said softly, “But you did turn out so much better than he did.”

“I did, didn’t I?”He said as if it was a joke.
