Liam Rawley
After doing what Brady advised me, I managed to score a date with Jake.
I ignored him when he tried to talk to me in the hallway and when we talked, I just pretended like I didn’t hear him. That made him make the first move and ask me out.
So, there I was, on my date with Jake. He took me to a small restaurant in town. The place wasn’t fancy but it was nice for a date as the lights were dim and there were candles in the middle.
Brady was also there but he was sitting at another table alone as he always did when I go out with my friends. Yes, it was awkward to have him around but I already got used to him following me around everywhere.
“How’s the food?”Jake asked awkwardly.
“It’s good,” I mumbled.
The date wasn’t going that well because we didn’t really have that much in common. He was more of a sports kind of a guy and I’m just not that.
“So, you like Harry Potter?”I asked, “I used to read the book a lot when I was younger.”
“I’ve never read it.”He said bluntly.
“You must be those fans that only like the movies, “I remarked sarcastically.
“Haven’t seen those either.”He said.
“Oh, “I mumbled under my breath, “I just thought that you…Never mind.”
“Hey, can I borrow your phone for a while?”He asked out of nowhere, “I kinda need to call my mom and my phone is dead.”
“Yeah, sure.”I took out my phone and gave it to him.
“I’ll be right back.”He said with a weak smile and left me alone.
Okay, so the date was getting worse. I wanted to leave but I just thought that I owed Jake a chance because he made all this effort to take me out.
“Did he left already?”Brady asked me after coming to my table.
“No, he has to call his mom or something.” I explained, “Can you keep me company until he comes back?”
“Sure,” He nodded and sat on Jake’s seat, “I like your outfit. The guy is crazy if he doesn’t fall in love with you tonight.”
I was just wearing a blue-black colored shirt that was tucked into my jeans. It was nothing special but Brady has always been like that. He is the type of guy that just knows what to say. I was feeling insecure about Jake but he made me feel better about it.
“Hey, I’m sorry that it took a while but I have to head off, “Jake announced after coming back to the table and handed me my phone.
“Oh, okay, “I mumbled.
“Seriously man?”Brady clenched his teeth, “You can’t just ditch someone in the middle of the date.”
“It’s a family emergency.”Jake defended.
“It’s fine, Jake.”I said softly, “You can go ahead and settle it.”
“Goodbye, Liam.”Jake said, “I’ll see you at school.”
I nodded and he left me alone with Brady.
“We should also get going too, “I announced.
“Or we can stay.”Brady said casually, “I mean the guy promised you a date so you deserve one.”
“Do you mean a date with you?”I chuckled lightly.
“Yeah,” He leaned back on his seat, “If you haven’t noticed, I’m kinda a catch.”
I shook my head while laughing, “Okay, Brady, we can have a date together, just this once.”

The date ended up being just like every other day we hung out with each other.
We have spent so much time with each other that a date is not really special to us because we already knew each other enough.
Anyways, the next day of school, I actually had to be ready with my speech that I was supposed to give last time but the assembly got canceled because Tess wanted to prove a point.
Cindy was the one giving the speech at moment and Tess wasn’t allowed to gave one that day.
“And if you vote for me, I have a great idea for all of you music lovers.”Cindy started, “I’ll make sure that our school will have a little event call music fest.”
Music fest?
As in the music fest that Tess and I were planning to do as President and Vice President. Cindy was definitely playing dirty and somehow stole the idea from us.
“And lastly, I would like to introduce my Vice President,” She announced, “Jake Flynn.”
Jake winked at me as he passed me by and my whole body started to fill with rage. That was the reason why he asked me on a date and wanted to borrow my phone. I had written all of our plans down on my phone and he must have got into it.
Not soon later, I went to the mic.
“He-hello.”I stuttered, “I’m Liam Rawley and umm-“I looked through my flashcards, skipping through the music fest part, “I would appreciate your votes because you can make a difference by voting for Tess McNelly and me. We will make sure that your-“
My hands slipped and my flashcard fell to the ground.
I went to pick up and when I got them back in my hands, it was all not arranged properly. I tried to rearrange it but I gave up and ran away from the stage instead while the crowd was silent.

At the end of the day, Roy and Tess drove me home. I realized that I haven’t told Brady yet and I was about to text him before I heard Tess coughed.
“I’m sorry for this morning,” I said regretfully.
“Look, Liam,” She sighed, “I feel like I put you on the spot when I made you my Vice President. I can’t imagine anyone else by my side but I don’t want to pressure you to do this. If you want to stop, I would totally understand.”
“Seeing you on stage really hurt us.”Roy mentioned, “You looked like you needed a hug.”
“Maybe all of this is not for me.”I mumbled, “But I’m in too deep now and if I leave, then everything that happened will be for nothing. So, I think I’ll continue.”
“I’m glad to hear that.”Tess smiled widely.
I then got outside of the car and was about to call Brady but it was too late as his car came speeding to my house.
He got out of the car and slammed the door behind him.
“Brady, I am so sorry-“
“Who drove you home?”He clenched his teeth, “Do you know how worried I got?”
“Roy did.”I said softly, “I’m sorry.”
“Damn it, Liam, you should have called.”He said and hit his car.
“I’m sorry, okay.”The tears came down my cheeks, “I just had a really bad day and I just wish that you won’t act like this around me right now.”
“Liam,” He said softly.
All of my friends started to slowly go away because it was probably awkward for them and not long later, they were gone.
“This is pathetic.”I sobbed and tried to wipe the tears away.
“What happened?”He asked softly, “Is it Ryan or anyone in the neighborhood bullying you?”
“No, it’s not that.”I shook my head, “Not every bad thing that happens to me involves Ryan.”
“Okay, then tell me what’s wrong.” He said sympathetically.
“It’s Jake. The whole date thing was just a scheme to get intel on our plans for the election. I just feel so dumb to actually thought that a guy like him would actually like me. I should have known.”
“Hey,” He wiped the tears under my eyes with his thumb, “Screw him. He doesn’t deserve you. You deserve someone that’ll appreciate your company, someone that supports you and would want to spend all of his time with you, and someone that would do literally anything for you because you are the best person I know. If I was that someone, I’ll make sure that I’ll leave everything just to make you happy.”
He was that someone.
He was that someone that makes my day better, the someone that was always looking out for me and protecting me. I just knew at that moment, my eyes were set on him.
I examined his face, looking back and forth from his eyes and lips, deciding whether or not I should kiss him.
I never got to make that decision as Brady leaned his head closer to mine to reached my height and pressed his lips on mine.
