Liam Rawley
I sat across from my mother at the restaurant while Brady sat at another table far away from us.
“So, that’s the guy you’ve been spending all your time with?”My mother took a glance at Brady, who was scrolling through his phone with a drink in his hand.
“Yeah, that’s him, “I said awkwardly.
“He looks kinda-“
“Tense.”I finished her sentence.
“I was going to say unease but sure.”She let out a weak smile.
I took another glance at Brady and for a second, I really wanted him to come and sit down next to me so that he could meet my mother but I remember how angry I was at him at the moment.
“Anyways, “I shrugged, “How’s Paris?”
“It’s amazing, sweetheart.”She said excitedly, “After you finish high school, you should look into schools there so that we can spend more time together.”
That sounded really nice but I just gotten to know my dad and it was crazy how attached I got to him in a few months. I wasn’t choosing him over my mother or anything but I just felt like it wasn’t right to leave him especially after being apart for so long.
“I’ll think about it, “I mumbled.
The both of us were silent for a few moments while we took a bite from our food.
“How’s the fashion industry going?”I asked.
My mother is a fashion designer and she just got into a big fashion firm in London. I don’t know much about it but I knew that she had a big role in the company.
“It’s been great.”She assured, “You should try modeling for us once with that adorable face of yours.”
“Yeah, not happening.”I chuckled and shook my head.
“At least sign up for Instagram, love.”She suggested, “It’s easier for me to look at you when I miss you.”
“I send you pictures.”I reminded.
“Barely.”She retorted.
“I promise to do it more, “I assured.
She let out a soft chuckle.
“You’ve never changed.”She said with a wide smile, “I’m happy that you are still the same old Liam.”
I couldn’t help but take another glance at Brady and he seemed kinda calmed at the moment.
“So, who’s this guy you’ve been seeing?”She finally asked.
“Brady and I are together, “I mentioned and immediately cringe, worried that she won’t approve.
“Who’s that?”She raised her eyebrows.
“Brady, as in the deputy that’s been looking out after me.”I pointed at him.
“Oh, yeah, right.”She said awkwardly, “Isn’t he much older than you?”She said, not sounding genuine.
“Not that much.”I muttered.
Brady Hutton
Liam and his mother took way too long to finish up the dinner but after a long while, I finally sent them home.
“We’re planning to play some board games. You should come and join us.” Liam’s mother, Brenda suggested, “It’s a good way for us to get to know each other.”
“I don’t know, I kinda have to-“
“I wasn’t asking.”She said seriously.
“Yeah, okay.”I sighed and followed both of them inside the house.
“Hey, Storybrooke’s Sheriff, come down and play some board games with your son,” Brenda called Liam’s father.
“We watched Once Upon A Time Once and you have been calling me that for the past 8 years.”The sheriff said calmly.
“Not my fault you’re as useless as the character.”She teased.
“Let’s just get this over with so that you can go back to wherever you came from.”He sighed.
Liam set the Monopoly on the table and sat next to me.
I needed to talk to him but there was no way that we could do that in front of his parents.
“So, Brady Hutton,” Brenda started to the roll the dice, “Where are you from?”
“Here.”That was all I said.
“How old are you?”The dice landed on the board and she started to move her piece.
“21.”
“How do you know my ex-husband?”
“Through work.”
“Who are your parents?”
The last question kinda made me and everyone else froze. My parents were obviously a rough topic for me and everyone else knew it.
“Mom.”Liam said softly, “I think you’ve asked him enough questions.”
She was a smart woman and could definitely read the room so she decided to stop talking.
“You okay?”Liam whispered.
“Yeah, I’m good.”I shrugged.

I decided to help out Liam, who was cleaning the dishes after they had a bunch of snacks.
“Here’s the last one.”I gave him a bowl.
“Thanks.”That was all he said as he grabbed it and cleaned it up on the sink.
I just stood there, leaning back on the counter.
“Anything else?”He raised his eyebrows as if he wanted me to apologize again or whatever.
“We really need to talk, “I said seriously.
“Okay, sure.”He nodded and arranged the dishes in a drawer before standing in front of me, crossing his arms above his chest.
“I want to tell you everything.”I grabbed both his hands and squeezed them, “Just not now.”
His calm face suddenly turns red and his eyes were filled with anger.
“I can’t believe you.”He pulled his hands away, “I tell you everything, and your around me every single second to know every single detail about me and I can’t even know what’s going on with you. How is that fair?”
“You know what’s not fair?”I snapped, “You constantly being on my ass to get involved in grown-up stuff even though your just a high schooler that doesn’t know anything about life.”
“Wow, this again, “He said in a shocked and angry tone, “So, you only see me as a kid?”
“I did not say that, “I said softly.
“How are we supposed to make this work if you don’t respect me as I do you?”He asked.
I looked back at everything that has happened between us. I’m the problem in this relationship. As much as I wanted to tell him everything, there was no way that my insecurities could do that. I hated the way I was treating him and just realised something,
“There’s no way that this can work, “I said honestly.
Nothing was going our way and the timing for us being together was terrible. He had lots to deal with school and everything else while I was still trying to reconnect with my family.
“What is that supposed to mean?”He asked with his eyes getting all watery.
“I think we should break up, “I suggested regretfully.
His jaw dropped and he just starred at me quietly.
“No, Brady.”He calmed, “Let’s just think about this, okay.”
“This just can’t happen, Liam.”I said seriously, “I’m bad for you and you know that. We especially shouldn’t be together if we don’t trust each other.”
“No, you’re not.”He squeezed my upper arm, “I’m sorry okay and I trust you.”
“You don’t mean that, “I said angrily, “You make me weak, Liam and when I’m around you, I get this feeling that something bad is gonna happen to you and I hate feeling that way all the time. “
“Brady, please don’t do this.”He squeaked and the tears fell down his cheek quickly, “Let’s just talk about this.”
“I have spent so many hours taking care of you and your stupid friends that I forgot how crappy my life is. Instead, I should have focused that time on me and what I want to be.”I explained calmly.
“Okay, we can do that together. I can help you do that”He sobbed and tried to grabbed my hand but I pulled it away quickly.
“I’m sorry,” I said and walked away.
