“Don’t worry, Liam, I’ll be there, “I assured on the phone.
“Did you-“
“Pick up the suit for tonight.”I finished his sentence, “Yes.”
“And-“
“Have the rings?”I finished his sentence again, “I sure do.” I checked my pocket but it was not there, “Maybe I don’t but I’ll find it.”
“I’m sorry.”He mumbled, “I’m just nervous.”
“It’s not every day that your parents decide that they want to get married again.”I joked.
“I can’t wait to see your siblings tonight.”He added, “Oh and did you-“
“Prepare the outfit for the twins.”I finished his sentence for the last time, “I did.”I said and noticed Ryan coming back with the coffee while I waited in the car, “I’ll see you tonight. Love you.”
“Love you too.”He said and hung up the phone.
“Hurry up, deputy.”I said to Ryan, who just opened the door, “Don’t expect things to be easy just cause’ it’s your first day.”
Ryan suddenly got some inspiration to be a cop after staying with me for the last few months and to my surprise, he is one of the best in his class. The sheriff, who hates Ryan’s guts was shocked when Ryan came to his office one day to apologize. Ryan told the sheriff about everything that happened at the prison where his father got shot and how he blamed him for that. The sheriff felt bad and apologized to him a lot. That was when the sheriff gave him a piece of paper and said that he would make a good cop. Ryan got his GED and tried his best to get the job. It wasn’t easy since Ryan didn’t really have a good track record but he was never actually charged in anything serious and the sheriff had to pull some strings to get him into the program.
“Don’t do drugs, kids, “Ryan yelled at some kids from the window.
“Really, Ryan.”I rolled my eyes.
“Someone had to tell them.”He muttered.
“We got a 10-66 near Lake Aden.”The lady on the radio said.
“Copy that, “I replied on the radio.
“10-66, that’s someone being suspicious, right?”Ryan asked.
“Someone’s been doing their reading, “I remarked and started the drive.
“Yeah, whatever.”He shrugged.

I stopped the car and we had to walked from there to reach the river.
“I hope it’s something crazy like samurais or something,” Ryan said.
“I have never seen a samurai ever since I started the job and I doubt that I’ll be seeing it anytime soon, “I said.
We heard something and I signal for Ryan to get down.
We started to move slowly to the area and we saw three people were drinking just behind a fence that was cut opened and there was a sign that said “no trespassing.” on top of it.
“I’m from the sheriff’s office and I’m gonna have to ask you guys to leave, “I said to the group.
“Oh shit, Ryan Finely.”One guy said and laughed hysterically with the others, “I thought they were joking when they said you’re a pig now.”
“Hey, screwballs, it’s been a while,” Ryan said awkwardly.
I remember screwball as one of the guys that I fought not long ago.
“This is fucking embarrassing, man.”Another guy said, “The station just accepts drug addicts like you now.”
“Former drug addict.”Ryan corrected.
“If you guys don’t leave in ten seconds then I’m forced to arrest you, “I said sternly.
“Sure, “Screwball smirked and gestured for his group to follow them, “Fucking trash.”He whispered to Ryan.
We went back to the car and I noticed Ryan looked all upset when we got inside.
“Don’t think too much of them.”I suggested, “They’re losers.”
“So was I.”He mumbled.
“I’m not gonna deny that.”I said bluntly, “But you’re not now and that’s the important thing.”
“But you’re not now.”He mimicked.
“There he is.”I chuckled.

“Where are you?”I asked Brady on the phone, “You’re siblings are already here with their parents and it’s really awkward.”
“I’m on my way.”He assured, “Just talk to them about anything.”He hung up the phone.
I went back to the table and smiled politely at the family.
My parents were getting married that night and before the ceremony, I had lunch with Brady’s siblings and their parents.
I wasn’t really happy at the idea of my parents getting back together since they were a mess back then but it seemed like the both of them grew up. My mother decided to move her entire fashion company to the country and it took a lot of money and energy but she managed to do it so that she could be together with my dad, which was sweet.
“I’m glad that you guys are coming to the ceremony later,” I said to the family.
“We’re happy to come.”Mrs. Jones said.
“Who is he again, mom.”The boy said.
“This is your brother’s boyfriend, Liam.”She said to him.
Jamie and Janet didn’t seem excited to see me. Then again, they don’t even know who I was. Rose, their daughter was just sitting there while scrolling through her phone. She looked like she was at least 2 years younger than me.
I already graduated high school a few weeks back and was currently waiting for my college intake. The summer was still long but I didn’t know how was I supposed to leave Brady here while I go study somewhere else.
“So, Jamie and Janet, I have heard a lot about you, “I said with a grin.
“Okay.”Was all Jamie said while Janet was quiet.
“Mom, can I go?”Rose asked her mother, “This is lame and I need to go study or whatever.”
“You, studying?” Mr. Jones let out a hysterical laugh,” Wow, that really made my day.”He wiped the tears away as I let out a painfully awkward fake chuckle.
I got a notification from my phone and it was Brady texting me.
Brady: Change of plans.Got to do some best man stuff for your dad.
Brady was the best man and I wasn’t because I told my father that standing behind him while everyone watches them get married was a nightmare.
Me: Are you serious? This is the most painful lunch ever.
Brady: I’m sorry. I’ll see you at the ceremony tonight. Please don’t be mad.
I was mad.

“Do you see it?”I asked Ryan.
“No, it’s not here, Brady,” Ryan said seriously.
I lost the rings for the ceremony and was trying to look for them with Ryan at the bar we went to the night before. The both of us got super wasted last night, or at least I did since Ryan is sober and I didn’t even realize that I had the rings in my pocket the night before.
I saw the bartender and decided to ask him he knew anything, “Hey, were you working here last night,” I asked him.
“Oh, hey, you’re the guy that puked on that lady last night.”He said, making me frown.
“Yeah, yeah,” I shrugged, “I lost some rings and wondering by any chance you’ve seen it.
“I haven’t,” He mentioned, “But I think I know where it is.”
“Where?” I raised my eyebrows.
“So, you made a bet on the rings to a drinking game last night with Larry,” He explained.
“Why didn’t you stop me?”I asked Ryan angrily.
“I was distracted.”He muttered.
“Distracted by flirting with some girl.”The bartender added.
“Where is this Larry now?”I asked.
“You can see him downstairs.”He said.
I nodded and both of us went downstairs. It looked like a gym at first but when I went deeper inside, it was actually an arena with a boxing ring in the middle of it.
There were a few people inside and I decided to go up to the biggest guy there, “Hey, do you know a Larry?”I asked.
“Who’s asking?”He raised his eyebrows.
“I’m Brady and this is my friend Ryan.”I said, “I lost some rings last night and need them back.”
“Right, you’re the idiot that betted on the rings last night.”He said sarcastically, “I have the rings but I’m not giving it back so easily.”
“What do you want me to do for it?”I asked.
“You can box for it.”He said.
