Offroad POV
“Sir, this is the principal from Romerike Folk Intermediate calling in regards to your son Chance,” The voice said on the other end of the phone and Offroad froze in worry.
“Is Chance okay?” Offroad asked getting up from the table which at almost 6 months pregnant was not an easy task as it sounded.
“Chance is okay but we are going to need you to collect him,” the principal advised.
“I’m sorry what? Why?” Offroad paused as he grabbed his car keys.
“Chance is suspended for the rest of the week,”
“What?!” Offroad yelled, cutting the man off.
“We will explain more when you come in, are you able to collect him now?” The principal asked.
“Yes, I am on my way,” Offroad said, hanging up the phone and grabbing his keys thanking god he already had his shoes on. He hit call on Daous’ number as he walked out the door. The phone rang and rang but no answer. Offroad knew that meant he was in a meeting and left his phone on his desk. Offroad proceeded to call Daou’s secretary.
“He is in a meeting,” She said as she answered the phone.
“I figured, when will it end?” Offroad asked as he climbed into his car.
“About 45 minutes,” she informed him.
“Ugh, just tell him to call me the moment he steps foot out of that office like you’re standing there with a phone,” Offroad instructed.
“Are you okay? Is the baby-“
“I’m fine, baby’s fine, his oldest child just got suspended from school, I’m on my way down there now to figure out why,” Offroad told her.
“I’ll have him call,”
“Thank you,” Offroad said, buckling up and pulling out of their garage. His mind was racing a million miles per hour as he tried to think and list all the reasons Chance could have gotten suspended. He got to the school and made his way to the office. When he entered he didn’t see Chance however he did see another boy there with an ice pack pressed against his mouth.
“Are you Chance’s father?” The young receptionist asked. Offroad nodded. “Right this way,” she smiled at him and led him down a hallway to the principal Office and there sat Chance slumped down in a chair.
“Ah, Mr. Kantapon, correct?” The elderly man behind the desk stood and motioned for Offroad to take a seat, next to Chance.
“So why is my son suspended?” Offroad asked taking a seat. The principal cleared his throat as he took his seat.
“Chance, would you like to tell your father what happened?” The principal asked his son as Offroad turned to look at him. He was clearly upset and had been crying.
“Baby?” Offroad whispered, reaching out to stroke his son’s head and Chance launched himself into Offroads arms from the chair.
“I didn’t mean to hit him, he was just being mean to Hunter and he wouldn’t stop,” Chance cried as Offroad soothed him by rubbing his back. Offroad looked to the principal for clarification.
“According to the teacher Jay, the little boy out in the waiting room made a joke about his omega classmate, to which your son then punched him in the mouth during recess today,” the principal told him.
“What was the joke?” Offroad asked, his eyes glaring at the principal.
“Mr. Kantapon regardless of the joke, your son still hit another student and we have a zero-”
“Zero tolerance policy on violence, yes I know I read the damn handbook,” Offroad said interrupting the man. “Considering my son is only suspended and not expelled I want to know what the joke was,”
“Well we are taking into consideration that he may be sensitive to jokes about omegas considering his home life,” the principal motioned to Offroads’ stomach.
“Chance baby, what did he say to Hunter?” Offroad knew who Hunter was. He was the sweet but fierce little boy, and he wasn’t sure but he thought his son had a crush on the boy.
“Jay told Hunter that the best thing he could ever do in life was to lay on his back for a rich alpha like me if he ever wanted to get anywhere in life.” Chance said. “I told him to shut up and it wasn’t true, and then he said I should go ask my omega father, and that’s when I hit him” Offroad’s heart fell. Hunter’s family weren’t rich but they were not poor but they were amazing people. His father worked for Daou and Hunter was the smartest kid in his class and his mother was the biggest sweetheart. But hearing that Chance felt he needed to resort to violence to protect him and Hunter was not okay.
“Baby we don’t hit, do you understand me no matter how angry we get,” Offroad said, kissing his son’s head. “What is the punishment for the other child?” Offroad asked.
“He is also suspended for 2 days,” The principal answered.
“I’m sorry for two days?” Offroad asked in shock.
“He made a harmless joke, and your son punched him,”
“Harmless?” Offroad asked.
“Look I understand because of your state right now you may not be able to think clearly-” Offroad held up a finger to silence the principal Offroad pulled out his phone, and hit call.
“Yes, son,” his father’s voice answered almost immediately.
“I need you to come to Chance’s school immediately,” Offroad growled into the phone before hanging up. Offroad over the years had in fact begun to embrace the fact he was his father’s favorite and while he didn’t throw his father’s name out there at all, it did come in handy at times.
“I don’t think,” the principal started but Offroad waved his finger at him, silencing him by calling Daous secretary once again.
“I do not care if he is in a meeting, put him on the phone now,” Offroad said as soon as she answered the phone. Offroad heard a bit of shuffling and then muffled whispers.
“Baby?” Daous’ concerned voice came on the line. “What’s wrong?”
“I need you to get Jin and come to the kids’ school now, my father is already on his way,” Offroad said, trying to remain calm.
“What? What’s going on?” Daou asked as Offroad heard him instruct his secretary to grab Jin.
“Our son punched a kid in mine and Hunter’s defense and this principal just told me because I am pregnant I am not thinking clearly and you know what he is right I am not and I’m about to launch this fucking paperweight at his head,” Offroad said still trying to remain calm.
“Hand him the phone,” Daou growled. Offroad smiled at the principal and handed him the phone.
“It’s for you,” Offroad said as sweetly as he could, directing his son to sit back down in the chair. Offroad watched as the principal slowly reached across the desk as he listened carefully to Daou on the other end of the phone and grabbed the paperweight Offroad had mentioned earlier, before hanging up the phone.
“I guess we are waiting for your husband to arrive then,” The principal said, pushing Offroad’s phone back across the desk.
“You better hope he is faster than my father,” Offroad said, snatching his phone off the desk.
“Is Grandpa Sam going to be mad at me?” Chance asked, wiping his snot from his nose.
“He could never be mad at you,” Offroad said, smiling at his son stroking his hair. “You on the other hand are in for it,” Offroad said glaring at the principal.
“I really do not understand why there is a need to call the child’s grandfather into my office, over a small dispute,” The principal sighed. Offroad knew this school had no idea who he or his father was and Offroad wanted to keep it that way but he was not about to get talked down to by some old lump of an alpha who clearly thought all omegas were good for was cooking, cleaning, and popping out babies.
“Sir,” a female voice rang over an intercom. “Sam Thongchai is here,” the principal looked confused for a moment before his eyes went wide.
“Oh looks like you weren’t lucky,” Offroad smiled as he crossed his arms over his chest. “We’re back here,” Offroad yelled as the door had not been shut. Offroad soon heard his father’s footsteps approaching.
“I was in a meeting,” his father’s voice said as soon as he entered the room.
“Your grandson is more important,” Offroad said. “Please explain to my father what you are categorizing as a harmless joke for an 11-year-old to say,” Offroad said motioning to the principal to proceed.
“I’m sorry I didn’t realize,” the principal sputtered.
“That my father, his grandfather, owned this building. There is a reason my child goes here,” Offroad laughed.
“Son,” Offroad heard his father speak to Chance. “Want to tell me what happened?” Chance relayed the story to his father. “I know you are aware of my son’s second gender status, but he also has an omega brother, who I hoped would also attend this academy and you thought that was appropriate?” His father asked.
“No, of course not, but the punishment for physically assaulting someone over what they both have said was a joke has to be more severe,” the principal argued.
“And where is this omega child has anyone thought to ask his side of the story?” His father asked. “And where are those boys’ parents?”
“They have been called, his father is on the way, but I don’t feel the need to involve any more parties,” the principal said with a groan.
“This office is about to get a lot more crowded and I don’t think my son needs to be here for this,” Offroad said, standing and grabbing Chance by the hand. “He will be back on Monday, I’m going to assume you had his teacher gather his work?” Offroad asked as the man nodded. “Good,” Offroad turned to face his father. “Daou should be here any minute with Jin the omega boy’s father,” his father nodded and Offroad walked out of the office Chance in hand.
“Who did this!?” Someone roared from the waiting area. Offroad made it to the end of the hall to see a stocky alpha examining his son’s face where Chance had punched him. The man turned and locked as with Offroad and Chance. Offroad knew this wasn’t going to end well.

Daou POV
Daou had walked into the school short of breath after running from the parking lot. Chance hitting someone blew his mind when Offroad told him what happened. His son had just turned 11 and was so polite and respectful to everyone and everything so whatever had been said about his friend and his father must have been horrible for him to ask like that. Daou paused at the sight before him. Offroad was currently in a stranges man’s face screaming. The man raised a hand to push Offroad away from him and Daou surged forward grabbing the man’s arm and twisting it.
“The last person who touched him ended up in the hospital,” Daou growled as silence fell on everyone around them. Daou let the man go, shoving him backward, and stepped in between him and Offroad. “Take Chance home, I will deal with this,” Daou said pointing Offroads towards the parking lot.
“Papa?” Chance asked behind Offroad. “I’m sorry,”
“We will talk when I get home okay?” Daou said to his son, bending down to kiss his head. Chance nodded.
“My father is with the principal,” Offroad informed him and Daou had to suppress a groan. Things were always 10x worse when Sam got involved. “I’ll see you when you get home,” Daou watched as Jin held the door open for his husband and son before stepping into the office himself.
“So what is going on?” Jin asked, looking around at everything. Daou punched the bridge of his nose trying to calm down. He noticed another little boy in a chair watching them with wild eyes clearly scared. The boy was big for his age Daou could immediately tell he was an alpha. He was pressing an ice pack on his mouth.
“Please take him to Mercy General and have them send me the bill, it isn’t like my son to hit people, please accept my apologies on his behalf,” Daou sighed, handing the man his business card.
“Well, I can’t say my son didn’t deserve it after what he said,” The alpha laughed nervously, taking the card from Daou. “I wasn’t going to touch your omega, I would never, I just needed him out of my face,”
“He is about 6 months pregnant and is extremely protective of our children,” Daou sighed. “This just seems to be a mess,”
“You can say that again,” The man sighed and turned and faced Jin. “Are you Hunter’s father?”
“Yes, where is he? Is he here?” Jin asked, looking around.
“No, but my son owes you an apology as well,” The man turned to his son and snapped his fingers. Daou watched as the boy sulked over to them. “Apologize now,”
“Why? It’s Hunter’s fault!” The boy sulked.
“I’m sorry?” Jin asked, confused.
“He wouldn’t let me play with him!” The boy pouted.
“Chance wouldn’t let you play with Hunter?” Daou asked, confused.
“Why would I want to play with Hunter?” The boy asked, giving Daou a ‘be for real’ look.
“Son,” Daou heard Sam’s voice from beside them. “Can you please tell us your version of events?”
“I wanted to play with Chance, it was my turn. Hunter said no and that alphas belong with omegas. But what good are they besides giving birth to babies- ow!” The boy shouted holding the back of his head as his father smacked it.
“You do not speak like that,” his father growled and the boy huffed, shutting his mouth signaling he was done talking.
“Wait so Hunter caused all of this?” Jin asked.
“It appears to be you 3 have a very unique love triangle on your hands, to which my grandson is at the center of,” Sam chuckled and Daou just stared dumbfounded.
“I didn’t mean to say anything about his dad, I was just angry and the words came out like vomit,” the boy said quietly looking at Daou. “Sorry,” he whispered. Daou sighed and crouched down to the boy’s level.
“We say things we don’t mean when we are angry, that is why we have to keep our anger in check. Do you like my son?” Daou asked the boy who looked at his father and then back to Daou and nodded slowly. “His father and little brother are both omegas, and Chance is extremely protective of them so you will need to be better in the future,”
“I promise I will be,” the young boy said eagerly. Daou stood ruffling the boy’s blonde hair.
“What is the punishment?” Daou turned to the principal who was standing next to Sam.
“Chance is suspended for a week and Jay is suspended for 2 days.” He informed him.
“That seems fair so why was my omega so upset?” Daou asked.
“I have discussed that with the principal and going forward it will not be an issue again,” Sam said, clapping Daou on the back. Which was Sam talk for the man who had just threatened the other man’s job over insulting his son and grandchildren.
“Do I need to take Hunter home?” Jin asked.
“No, but Jay will need to apologize to him and Chance when he gets the chance,” the principal advised.
“How about tomorrow we have a playdate with the boys? That way we can all sit and talk about this love triangle?” Daou laughed along with the other 2 men.
They had come to an agreement on a time and to meet at Daou’s home. Daou left the school more confused now than he was before. He had dropped Jin back off at work and had headed home. He knew he was going to have to speak to Offroad about all of this but he was trying to get his head sorted out. He walked through the side garage door and placed his stuff down on the entryway table taking his shoes off and slipping on his house shoes.
“Daddy!” Charlie screamed as he came racing down the hallway. Charlie never referred to Daou as Papa but rather called both Daou and Offroad Daddy. Daou scooped up his son, hugging him tightly.
“Hey buddy,” Daou said. “How was school?”
“We are hatching butterflies!” Charlie exclaimed excitedly.
“Oh, what? That’s awesome,” Daou said as he entered the kitchen smelling the food Offroad was cooking.
“Chance is in trouble,” Charlie whispered into his ear. “Daddy is mad,”
“Oh, no,” Daou said back to his son. “Do you know why Chance is in trouble?” Charlie shook his head no. “Where is Chance?”
“In the living room watching a movie,” Charlie said, pointing to the TV he could see from the kitchen.
“Why don’t you go watch it with him while I talk to your daddy?” Daou suggested to his son who gave him a big kiss on his cheek before Daou sat him down and watched him run off towards the couch. Daou leaned against the kitchen island as Offroad stood at the stove stirring away.
“He is grounded,” Offroad said as if knowing what Daou was going to ask.
“Did he tell you why the fight started?” Daou asked and Offroad just looked at him.
“He is too young for that, for any of this,” Offroad grumbled, placing a hand over his stomach.
“I think it’s cute,” Daou laughed as Offroad glared at him. “Oh, come here,” Daou said as he pulled Offroad into his arms for a hug. “I invited the boys over tomorrow after Hunter gets off of school for a playdate,”
“Um are you taking off work because I am not dealing with that,” Offroad mumbled into Daou’s neck.
“I already planned on rearranging my afternoon schedule,” Daou laughed.
“Wait, that boy’s father isn’t going to be here is he?” Offroad asked pulling back to look up at Daou.
“He is just as protective of his son as you are of ours,” Daou said, placing his hands on Offroads’ belly. “Isn’t that right little bean?” Daou said to the baby.
“Stop calling him that!” Offroad scolded him, smacking his hands away before turning back to the stove and stirring the dish once more. “Charlie is already asking when Bean is going to pop out,”
“You have to admit, it’s a cute name,” Daou said this time snuggling Offroad from behind kissing his neck. “Besides we don’t know if it’s a bean or a beanette,”
“It’s a bean,” Offroad laughed. “I’ve birthed enough of them to know,” Offroad laughed.
“Remind me when the anatomy scan is again?” Daou asked and felt Offroad tense up.
“I swear to god if you miss this one I am not rescheduling it,” the warning was clear in Offroads’ voice. They had an appointment set up about 3-4 weeks ago to get the gender of the baby however, a last-minute work emergency had Daou begging for Offroad to reschedule as he wanted to be there to hear the announcement as well.
“It’s this Monday at 10 am. I will meet you there after you drop the boys off at school,” Daou said as he felt Offroad relax. “See it remembered I just wanted to make sure I remembered correctly.”
“Mmhmm sure,” Offroad laughed. Daou began to pepper Offroads face and neck with kisses as he yelled that dinner was done and Daou could hear the pitterpadder of feet running from the living room. That noise, other than Offroads’ voice, had to be one of his favorite sounds in their home. Daou loved his family more than words could ever tell he would be lost without them.
