Theme:Â Angsty fluff<33
Note: @penpen_doukazasimp I for some reason started this more angsty than I’d intended so the fluff seems a bit rushed or smth bc I tried taking it back on track Help-
Douma was worried.
He’d been cuddling Akaza that night as they slept and the blond had awoken from movement. Akaza looked pale and was sweating. He would cry out incoherant words every now and then and it made Douma confused and concerned.
Confused because he’d never had a nightmare before so he only knew vaguely about them. And concerned because, quite obviously, about Akaza’s reactions.Â
“Akaza! Akaza-dono! Wake up!” Douma hissed, shaking the pinkette (that’s not a word is it-).Â
He didn’t wake up. Instead, he seemed more stressed. Douma had tried waking Akaza up several times now. This was the 17th try.Â
Sighing, he gave up and slipped out of the bed. He would go get some food for Akaza—though it meant having to find some man to kill—and then hope the demon would awaken.
And he did, eventually. But after Douma was gone.
Akaza woke up, sweating, on the verge of tears, and panting heavily. He looked around and found the bed was empty, besides himself.
Had he had a nightmare or was it true?
Douma had left him in his dream. If it was a dream. It seemed real.Â
And besides that, Koyuki and Keizo had popped up there as well. They had been faceless, though. Something like a vague memory. Akaza could barely remember that they’d been in his nightmare at all.
He rubbed his temples. Whatever this nightmare was he didn’t like it.Â
He looked around. Where was Douma, though? Hadn’t they just been together?Â
No.. Perhaps it hadn’t been a dream. Or maybe he’d had a dream but it had mixed with reality? After all, Douma had left him for some woman in his cult place sayign Akaza could never be cut out as an Uppermoon or a boyfriend. There was more but… he wasn’t necessarily sure he wanted to remember.Â
Akaza looked down at the bed and placed his hand on the side he wasn’t on. It was cold. Douma hadn’t been there after all.Â
He got out of bed and went to leave, feeling numb inside. But then the door burst open and Douma strode in with his arms full of bloody humans. The blond saw Akaza there and his face broke out into a relieved smile.
“Akaza-dono! You’re awake, are you okay? You looked scared when you were sleeping, or something, so I went out to get some food for you,” he said, handing Akaza over the three men he’d killed.Â
Akaza took them slowly, confused. “Wait, it was only a dream..?” he asked, his mind searching for a clear answer.
Douma tilted his head. “What was?”
Akaza started to speak then thought better of it and shook his head. “Nothing..”
“Okay!”
Akaza sat down on the floor and started eating, a bit dazed. Douma chattered a lot about how he’d run into another demon on his way back and how the demon had thought he could defeat Upper 2.Â
While he ate, Akaza’s eyes stayed on Douma, trying to make sense of what had happened. Either he’d had a nightmare of Douma leaving him and what was reality was Douma was just going to get him food, or the food was an apology from Douma for leaving and he didn’t want Akaza to know.
As he thought, his mind spun down to the worst possible conclusions, making Akaza’s body feel cold with dread. What if… What if… They didn’t stop.
You know when you find yourself dreading something, and your mind decides at the worst possible moments to be as creative as possible and spin the most terrifying possibilities that make you want to tear your brain out and rid of it forever? Or at least at some level of that?Â
That was how Akaza felt. He stopped eating suddenly and stared intently at Douma. Douma, obviously confused, paused mid-sentence and stared back, unsure if this was some sort of no-blinking game—though Demons didn’t need to blink. (do you know how many times I had to re-write that.. the paragraph kept getting deleted..)
They gazed at each other for a moment before Douma said, feeling a bit uncomfortable, “Akaza-dono? Why’d you stop?”
Akaza snapped out of his thoughts and shook his head. “Nothing.”
“Okay!” Douma smiled and continued his talk, now on the topic of birds. For some reason.
Akaza finished eating and was just sitting there, only half listening to Douma, when the blond said, “Did you eat well?”
The Uppermoon nodded wordlessly and Douma smiled contently. “I’m glad! Do you want to go on a walk together? It’s still dark out.”
Akaza looked up at him turned away. Douma, confused, crawled over to sit right next to him and said, curiously, “Akaza-dono?”
Akaza sniffed and lifted his hand to his face, rubbing his eyes. Then he turned back. “Hm?”
“Are you okay?” the blond asked, wondering what was happening.Â
Akaza nodded. “‘M fine,” he mumbled.Â
Douma, then remembering why he’d been worried, said, “Was it because of when you were sleeping? Are you sick?” He tilted his head to the side, unsure. He didn’t know much about sicknesses. Or whatever it was.Â
Deciding there wasn’t anything particularliy bad that could happen, Akaza responded truthfully. “No. It was… a dream.” He avoided saying nightmare, thinking he would sound weak.Â
“A dream? What was it about?” Douma inquired. He looked interested. No sort of disgust yet…Â
Akaza nodded. “It was… You said…” He paused. But what if the dream had been real? No. It couldn’t have been, right? “You said that I wasn’t fit as an Uppermoon or a demon or your.. boyfriend. And you left me for some other person,” he concluded.
Douma blinked. He didn’t know dreams could be so cruel to the subconscious mind. “Oh.” Then he paused. “Awee, were you worrying that I didn’t like you??” he asked, flinging his arms around his boyfriend’s shoulders.
Akaza huffed and turned away, his cheeks pink with embarrassment. “No!”Â
Douma kissed his cheek. “I’m not ever ever going to leave you!” he declared, nuzzling his face against Akaza’s shoulder.Â
“I hope not,” Akaza hummed, sighing.Â
Douma propped himself up and kissed Akaza’s nose. “Don’t you say ‘hope’! Say that you know I won’t!”Â
Akaza crossed his arms. “You never know, though!” Nevertheless, he added, “But fine. I know.. that you won’t.”
Douma smiled. “I never will!”
