As Cate sat in front of the mirror, watching the skilled makeup artists worked on her face, she couldn’t help but to become lost in the depths of her own reflection. The soft glow of the vanity lights illuminated her features as she watched herself transformed, a vision of beauty in the making. All the historic lines on her face seemed to fade away, replaced by a flawless canvas that the makeup artists carefully curated. But as Cate’s physical transformation unfolded, an internal battle raged within her mind.

It was hard to admit but she knew it was really over – what she and Sandra had shared – and yet the memories of their love lingered, haunting her like ghosts in the room, like a lost kid begging for attention. She loved her, yes, but her love for the brunette could not and would not be enough to ignite the flame of their love for the second time. As the make-up artists worked their way on every crevice of herself, Cate stopped herself from crying. She shouldn’t cry. She knew she should not, especially not in front of people.

“You’re lucky.” The brunette cut her off as she wiped her tears, “You’re lucky I never hurt you the same way you did to me. And you’re even luckier,..” This time, her words died on the bridge of her throat as her tears fell even harder and she wept, “…even luckier because despite you murdering my heart, it beats for you and I don’t know how to stop it.”

“Then let me love you again.” Cate mumbled as she moved an inch towards her, “Please, I still love you and I don’t know what to do with all the love I have for you anymore.”

“If you love me, then fix yourself. Save your love for somebody else, Cate. I don –“

“But you love me still!”

The intensity of the moment shattered as Cate looked into Sandra’s eyes. The brunette’s eyes had spoken already and despite the non-existence of those words, she knew already. She had an inkling about what she would say, and she tried so hard not to weep, not yet.

It took a few seconds before Sandra replied, in her most desperate tone she said, “I do. I do love you still. But this love is not enough for me to give us another chance to hurt each other again.” It felt like the world was torn in half, and they were both drifting on the different sides, “I know what will happen to us, Cate. I’ve seen it. You’ve seen it, so please…” This time, it was Sandra who took a step forward and held the blonde’s shaking hands, “…save your love for somebody else. Somebody who will be enough for you.” She added before she planted a kiss – a parting sign – on the blonde’s head, “Please…”

“Miss Catherine?” A staff called her attention, “Your guesting will start in 5 minutes. Please put on your lavalier mic.”

One of her make-up artist finished her off with a bold shade of red lipstick before the blonde got off from her make-up chair. Despite her flooded mind, she didn’t let melancholia kissed her skin. They’re over. Long been over. With a last look on her reflection on the mirror, Cate sighed before eventually putting on a smile. It’s game show.

“So have you seen it?”

Sandra turned her gaze on her doorway and there, Dr. Jennifer Aniston stood with her arms crossed against her chest. The brunette just finished a 7-hour surgery and as much as she wanted to chitchat with her friend, she also badly needed time alone.

“Seen what?” Sandra countered, “If you mean that patient who had severed her thigh, got cut off by a chainsaw in accident, or if you mean if I saw that guy whose penis had worms, yes. I’ve seen it all.”

Jennifer rolled her eyes as she barged in the brunette’s office completely, “She was in a live guesting just an hour ago.”

By she, Sandra knew who that she right away, “And?”

Jennifer sat on the couch, “I’m just asking if you’ve seen her.”

“And you know too well I just finished a 7-hour long surgery.” She blurted, “I don’t have the time. And even if I do, I still won’t watch her.”

Jennifer contemplated for a moment before she went on with, “She was live an hour ago.”

“And?”

“She said she’s fixing herself. I really wasn’t able to watch the whole thing, but what I saw was that, she was telling her experience on life in general and that she said she’s aware that she’s not on her best self and that she’s in the process on fixing it.”

Sandra stood up from her chair and walked towards her refrigerator and got herself an iced-coffee which her assistant brought a few hours ago, “Then good.”

“You want that for her, don’t you?”

“Yes.”

“So get back to her as soon as she fixes herself.”

“I won’t. I told you, our chapter is over.”

“But you’re not over her yet.”

The brunette went back to sit on her chair before she looked at her friend seriously, “I don’t get it why you want me to go back to her. I get it, you’re a Cate Blanchett fan, but hello? I’m your friend.”

“It’s not because I’m her fan, okay? It’s because I know what you want. I can see through your heart and your heart still has her name tattooed on it.”

“No, thank you.”

“Are you really that adamant now? Because the interviewer asked her about her love life, and your ex, who still loves you by the way, said that she’s in love with someone she cannot have anymore. And when asked if she’s open to finding a new romance, she said, why not? I’m just telling you, you’re gonna be a dog chasing her when she finds someone new. And when that time comes, I will —”

“You will say, ‘I told you so’. But good for her, okay?”

Jennifer stood up from the couch and started her way out before she stopped by the door again, “Good for her, but bad for you?”

A smile crept into the brunette’s lips, “Good for the both of us. Besides, I’m on Tinder.”

“What the fuck is Tinder?”

A laugh crawled out of the brunette’s system, “It’s a dating app, grandma!”
