„Evie? Are you okay?”, Evie could hear Taylor say from outside the bathroom. Nothing was okay. She had wanted to kiss Taylor but now she regretted it. They were both drunk and she was really unsure about l what Taylor thought of this. She had been around her at parties and knew that she got touchy and outgoing when drunk. But this wasn’t a party. But still, Taylor could be more drunk that she pretended to be and this could be the start of a mess. But Evie couldn’t ignore Taylor, this was her house and she had just thrown up in her toilet. She slowly opened the door and locked eyes with Taylor’s. There were questions in hers, Evie could see that and couldn’t bear it another second. “I feel a bit better but I need to sit down for a while I guess…”, she said while she faced the bathroom floor as if it provided a solution to their situation.
They went back into Taylor’s living room and sat down on the couch. Evie had to close her eyes for a moment as the room was still spinning around her. “I guess we had a bit too much to drink…”, Taylor said with a concerned tone in her voice. Evie was not sure if that referred to the kiss or the fact that she had thrown up. She did not know what to say and only nodded, her eyes now open again. “I think it’s best if you rest a little. Let’s talk about the song another time, there’s no rush.”. Taylor’s voice filled the silent house which suddenly seemed so empty. “Yeah I think that’s best.”, Evie finally managed to say. They both sat there in silence and Evie got the chance to calm down a little even though she still felt the alcohol in her body. After at least five minutes of complete silence, apart from the city’s noice outside the house, Taylor’s phone made a sound. Her phone laid between them and the screen lit up. Travis’ name appeared above a message that Evie couldn’t and didn’t want to read. None of them moved or said anything and another message from him appeared. Taylor looked at the screen as if her phone was a ticking bomb and she seemed unsure of what to do. “I’m sorry”, Taylor just whispered, quickly grabbed her phone to answer him, stood up and put her phone face down on the living room table. When she sat down again, she fidgeted with the couch blanked and seemed to wait for Evie to say something. For Evie, there was nothing she had to say apart from apologizing for the kiss when Taylor appeared to date someone else. But she didn’t feel ready to address it and only wished to turn into dust and fade away. The silence was unbearable and Evie was relieved when Taylor decided to fill it with her voice. “So about the kiss…”, she started saying. But before she could finish her sentence, Evie interrupted her. “Can we not talk about it…now?, she asked determinedly and didn’t even look into Taylor’s eyes. She needed to sort her thoughts first and she needed to be sober to talk to her. This setting wasn’t ideal. “Sure.”. Evie was still facing the floor and couldn’t see Taylor’s impression and her voice didn’t tell if she was relieved about it or not. Taylor got some water to drink and they sat in silence next to each other, both staring at different parts of the room. Evie decided do leave once she felt less dizzy to face her way back to her apartment. Taylor persuaded her to let her driver bring her home safely and Evie had no other choice than to obey.
10 minutes later, she found herself alone in the backseat of her driver and couldn’t believe what had happened earlier that night.
