Stares never really bothered me unless they came from a creepy guy staring me down in the corner. Until today. You’d think that the food in the cafeteria would be the thing to kill you but no, today it was the stares, the whispers and the crazy ass rumors floating around about me and Alex.

“You okay Evan?”

I let my fork dropped into my plate and peer over at Chris with dull eyes. “I’m great Chris, the rumors about me going nuts in a restaurant doesn’t bother me at all.”

“Really? I heard you threw a fork at his ex girlfriend…”

Kimmy raises her hand. “Yeah, I heard that you and her got crazy and rolled around in a large pot of lasagna or something.”

I scoff and let my eyes roll. A hand sneaks over to my back and rubs it gently. “I’m sorry man. But don’t worry about it. The entire school is in  another scandal at the moment.”

Kim leans in and looks towards Bobby. “What Scandal?”

I huff and sigh at her. She was so clueless. “Some chick got knocked up and blamed a gay guy.”

Her eyes widened with shock and a gossipy glint appears in them. She gets up and grabs her bag. “I’ve gotta go.” she says and hurriedly leaves the table, running out of the cafeteria.

“Where’s she going?” I ask, looking at the two that remained.

“To the girls’ bathroom to check the walls. Girls always write everyone’s business there…” Chris says, poking at his food.

“So, can I ask you two a question?”

“Yeah, once it doesn’t include you getting down with Jacob I’m okay with it.” I throw a carrot at Chris, hitting him the middle of his forehead.

“Jerk. Anyway, why is everyone so uptight about me dating Alex? Is there something I should know? Does he have like six toes or something?”

Bobby shrugs and Chris’ eyes swat in different directions, eating the carrot I threw at him. “Why won’t anyone answer me?”

“Well,” Bobby starts. His eyes shift cautiously between me and Chris. It almost seems as if they are communicating with one another.

“In eleventh grade, Alex was known for getting into relationships and cheating on almost everyone he dated.”

And there was that word I hated. Because in knew it all too well. “Cheated.” I mumble, averting my gaze back to my plate.

“Yeah the others broke up with him because all he wanted from them was sex, sex and more sex.” Chris booms.

“He’s too sweet to cheat on me.”

I hear Chris snort but he quickly shuts up when Bobby throws him a look. His harden gaze turns back to sympathy once he looks back at me, “That’s what he does Evan. He’s sweet, then once he gets what he wants; he’s gone with the wind.”

I swallow slowly and look up at the two boys. “And that might be?”

“Sex.” They both say in union.

I roll my eyes and stand to my feet. “Well, then he’s wasting his time because I’m not having sex.”

“Yeah, should have said that to Jacob.” I throw Chris a look and throw another carrot at him. This time he catches it between his teeth.

I scowl and walk away, exiting the cafeteria.

Alex wouldn’t do that. He is a complete sweetheart. He wouldn’t fake being nice not me just to get in my pants. Right?

I mean guys don’t do that Right? Or am I delusional, does he have me in his web? Is he playing me?

Jesus, I could write a song with all the questions floating in my head.

The stares of the ones in the halls stay on me, just like in the cafeteria. It seems everyone knows about the incident at the restaurant. And where the hell was Alex, he should be comforting me right now. Yet, we haven’t spoken since it happened.

“Where the hell is Alex?” I murmur, searching the halls like a lost puppy for my boyfriend.

I freeze instantly when I turn the next corner.

Alex’s eyes almost instantly connected with mines and his smile fades away. The blonde girl he was talking to looks back. Her face—the same girl from the restaurant. He mumbles something to her and then walks over to me with his hands stuffed in his pockets.

Before he even speaks I raise my hand up. “Why are you with her?” I ask slowly pointing over to the blonde girl.

He shrugs and licks his lips. “We’re just talking Evan. We have a group project together for Biology so we’re discussing whose house to go by Mines, her’s or Chris.”

That made me uneasy because the things that Chris and Bobby told me are still playing in the back of my mind. “Well I think we should talk about the crazy rumors flying around about us.”

He sighs and puts a hand on my cheek. “Evan, calm down. Everything’s okay.” He says chuckling.

“How can you say that?” he shrugs again, keeping his hand on my cheek looking deeply into my eyes.

He smiles and its radiant glimmer, its aura, calms me a bit. “You’re way too over annalistic Evan. It was one bad dinner with your parents. I’ll win your dad over soon enough.”

I knew that was a lie. My dad is a person that once you’ve crossed him there was no way getting back on his good side.

“Hey, I’ll take you out tomorrow night after I finish with Rayven and we could…talk. I don’t want Rayven and Chris lone, knowing him he might do things with her.” He smiles, trying to reassure me that nothing is going on between them and as much as I want to protest, the look in his eyes tell me he’s telling the truth. I trust him.

“I’ll talk to you later.” He places a gentle kiss on my cheek and smiles again.

“Okay.” I barely get out as he walks back to Rayven, who has been watching the entire thing.

“Evan Harris please report to the Guidance Counselor’s office.”

I groan loudly. I knew what it was about.

I made my way over to the office and walked in. a woman, red headed and freckled sat at a desk in the far right corner.

I clear my throat and she looks up from her paperwork on her desk. “Oh Hello Evan, take a seat.”

I simply nod and sit in a chair in front of her desk.

“Now, Evan I’m Mrs. Crawford and I’m the ninth grade counselor and after your fiasco with your dad and your boyfriend their making me talk to you.”

“How—How do you even know about that?”

She scoffs and chuckles a bit. “I follow Dr. Charles on Twitter, he recorded the entire thing.”

My eyes widen when she takes out the phone and a video of the all too familiar scene plays. My bulging eyes returning to her. “Isn’t this illegal or something?”

“Who cares really, this was freakin hilarious. We’ve been playing it in the teacher’s lounge all day.” She laughs, tucking the phone in her shirt.

“Okay Evan, this could have been much worse. So far the only rumor I’ve heard was that Alex killed your dad and stuck him in the freezer. You should be thankful that chick got preggo otherwise you’d be the talk of the school.”

I don’t think this woman should be giving advice to children…

“So why am I here again?” I question.

Her face goes blank for a second. “Oh yeah.” She says suddenly and pulls out a note book. She flips a couple of pages and then reads one. “Okay here it is; teen suicide prevention for the obvious gay guy.”

“Excuse me.” I say sternly, offended. “I know that I’m gay but that’s kind of rude.”

She places the book down on the table and smiles at me.

“You might not realize this Evan but you’re gay. And not just homo gay, you’re fully gay. You’re so gay rainbows appear when you sing, unicorns come when you cough and Lady GaGa farts every time you swear.”

I gape at her, not believing the things coming out of my Guidance Counselor’s breathing hole. “Can you be anymore stereotypical right now?”

“Yes. Yes I can but you know what.” She gets up and comes behind me. She rests her hands on my shoulder and rubs it gently.

“You are special Evan and according to independent studies you’re suicidal which means I have to be careful with you or you might tie a rope around your neck and do the vertical ascension.”

“I’m not suicidal at all, I love my life.”

“Yeah and I love working with demon children. We all lie sometimes to cover up the truth but you should be proud. Someone the greatest people in history were gay. Neil Patrick Harris, Abe Lincoln, Ryan Secrest and half of the cast Hannah Montana.”

I laugh nervously and stand up. “Can I leave now?”

I was getting annoyed and pissed at her utter disregard for my feelings.

“Okay, okay. All I’m trying to say is don’t let the rumors get to you. Defy your stereotype and show them that you’re a man. A man who likes it up the ass, but a man none the less.”

She’s confusing me now. Is she a closet homophobe or something?

“Okay.” I say quickly, grabbing my bag and heading to the exit.

“Remember Evan. Gay is Okay.”

I blink blankly at her and hurry out of the room.

*

As the day went on, rumors continued to spin. People came up with some of the stupidest assumptions I’ve ever heard, some that made me question the sanity of this school’s population.

“You know.” That familiar voice says. Jacob makes his way on the side of me as I wait outside the school’s doors. “I never really got you back for trying to rape me.”

I smirk and turn to him. “It’s not rape if you want it.”

He pokes his cheek with his tongue and looks down as his face reddens. “Right. Well, now I’ve got to get you back.”

I raise an eyebrow and fold my arms over my chest. “Oh? How can things get worse from this point?”

“Well I don’t know but things can always go from bad to worse. How about you accompany down the street for an ice-cream then I’ll take you home.”

He was right and this screams all kinds bad. But, at this point I’ve really got nothing to lose. Plus…I’d never turn down ice-scream. It’s not gentlemen like.

“Okay.” He smiles and leads me over to his silver car.

“This right here is my baby.” He says, sighing contently just staring at it. In reality it was nothing fancy but I could tell it meant a lot to him.

“A lot of orgies in here.” My face twist in disgust causing him to laugh. “I’m kidding.” He assures me smiling.

“You know how to use a door right?” he says, opening his own.

My face flushes with embarrassment as I open it. “You know, one of the reasons Alex is better than you is because he’s a complete prince Charming.”

He looks over to me and smirks. “Yeah, well. Prince Charming just ain’t my thing.”

I snicker at him and put on my seatbelt. “With that I agree.”

The car ride remains silent until we reach to a park, where an ice-cream cart is located half way up the stone path.

“You know, me and Evelyn planned the whole rape you thing. Just to get you back though for screwing with her head and embarrassing me.”

He licks the ice-cream and shrugs. “I figured that out.” He says briskly as we slowly walked down the trail.

I gasp and peer over at him. “What gave it way? Was it my eyes, did they seem unconvincing?”

“Actually, I stood by the door and eavesdropped on your conversation with Danny, who by the way throws one hell of a punch.”

I chuckle. It was true. Danny was one hell of a fighter. He had major anger problems and nearly killed my dad once.

Oh the Nostalgia of my past.

“By the way, is it true that you sliced Rayven’s arm with a fork?”

I groan loudly out of frustration and throw my head up to the sky. “Every rumor I hear is more stupid than the next.”

“That’s why there rumors, scandals, lies. They’re not true.”

“What about the one with Alex? Is he really that much of a player?”

He doesn’t answer right way and I cross over into the green rich grass. I sit on down and fold my legs Indian style and watch as he comes over to me.

“Unfortunately yes and I still believe he is.” He answers honestly and sits down beside me.

Overhead, the sun is starting to dim as clouds start to form high above. Rain immanent.

“I like these kinds of days.” My eyes divert from the sky and land on Jacob. He wasn’t looking at me, but up at the sky. “Those days when the rain comes in, the wind blows, the sound of it makes when it hits the window, the sound of lighting rumbling high above…”

My eyes remain on the boy, he looks…human. Or as human as I’ve seen him since the first time we met at Evelyn’s party.

He is so relaxed and cool, even though it was going to rain. Probably because he’s the one with the car.

“Alex is a good guy though. He means no harm, he’s just horny.” He says laughing. “He’s fun, kind of insecure but overall confident. He’s the best friend a guy like me could ask for.”

His eyes slide back down to me. “But for some reason, we always fought over little things. Toys when we were five, the swing set when we were eight, the video game controller when we were thirteen and girls when we were sixteen. Now, he has something that I can’t fight for.”

“Grades? Good Looks? Charm? Wit?” he places a finer on my lips, silencing me.

“No you idiot…you.” He removes it, but I keep silent. “I’m—I guess the word would be confused? About my feelings towards you at the moment. I don’t know if I like you, hate you, want to screw you or love you. You’re a real headache for me at the moment. But, I’m not gay, I’m sure of it.”

I didn’t know if what he’s saying was a compliment or an insult but either way I couldn’t believe the words coming from this guy’s mouth. I go to speak but he places that finger back on my lips. “Let me finish.” A drop of rain lands on his nose making both of us look up at the sky.

“Perhaps another time…” he whispers standing up. I stay in my seated position, not even noticing that my ice-cream fell on the grass. “What? You forgot how to use your legs?”

Usually I’d have a witty comeback but I’m too shocked to even do anything. Getting up, I dust myself off as we run over to the car.

“Um, I have to get my Biology book from by Alex so I can do my half of the project. Then I’ll take you home.” I nod, keeping quiet as we rode down the rainy street over to Alex’s home, which I have yet to see.

When we arrive it’s everything I thought it would look like. Two story white and a lawn to lust over. I notice his white Mercedes in the driveway and Alex parks behind it.

“I’ll be right back.” He mumbles but I grab his hand.

“No, I’m coming in too.” He hands me an umbrella from the backseat from next to a baseball bat.

“Use this.”

“Then what are you going to use?”

He shrugs his shoulders and gets out of the car into the rain that was now pounding loud and hard.

That sounded so sexual just now…

When I got out Jacob was already to the door, opening it.

I scurry off to him as he walks in. “How did you get the key?”

“I had one made when we were in tenth grade.” He says nonchalantly walking in.

The house inside is a beautiful as it was outside. Its cream colored walls, compliment the white carpet on the floor.

Pictures of Alex and his family were basically on every inch of the walls. As well as plaques, awards, certificates and medals, all hanging from them.”

“Where’s…”

He points to the stairs, already knowing my question. I nod and climb them silently.

But as I approach the top, a sound fills the air. It’s weak and hard to make out but it was coming from the first door.

Me being the nosey person I was turn the knob and enter.

A tiny gasp escapes my lips as Rayven’s sweaty face turns to face me. Her back was to me, but it was obvious that she was shirtless and on top of someone in the bed.

“Please, please tell me that Alex’s dad is some sort of pervert and that is him that you’re on.” I say slowly and with a low, very deep pitch.

My heart race starts to increase as her shocked face turns back to whoever she was on top of. “Um, guess again?”

OMJesus!

QUESTION: Do you think Jacob is just confused or is he in denial about his sexuality? Tell Me Belloow!
