PS. I have to go so I’ll be editing nay mistakes later. I humbly apologize.

The air was thick but I was very hell bent on finding him. A smirk was playing on my lips the entire time as I marched down the halls, commanding the attention of every being present.

Bursting into the cafeteria, it wasn’t hard to find him sitting near the middle of the room, laughing with the rest of his plastic friends.

“Hey Allen, brother dear!” I yelled in a very annoying and sweet voice that I knew would instantly grab his attention.

His faced churned in confusion. I could see the mind’s wheels turning. “What’s your problem?”

“I know something you don’t.” I sang and poked his cheek much to his growing annoyance.

He squinted his intense eyes and got closer, “What did you do?” he hissed, borderline afraid. It was all over his tone.

I smiled sweetly “I was just visiting our daddy and I ran into a guy by the name…or rather letter K.”

His face dropped a bit as he eyed me more intensely. He knew what I was going to say and what I knew. “Now here’s where it gets interesting people.” I said with a giggle, pivoting around Allen like the earth to the sun until I made a complete full 360 degree rotation back to his puzzling gaze.

“You see, K, has a brother and a sister. Cute little thing she is really, but let’s focus on the brother.” I chuckled slightly and stepped back to face the onlookers, “K’s brother is a handsome little guy, not too tall but very good looking and blonde. His name is Matt, Matt Cruz.”

Allen’s eyes slip to a close rather slowly as he swallowed daggers of fear. “Matt and I chatted and I found out that he and Allen here,” I pointed to him, talking at a high volume to ensure maximum humiliation to his ego, “he and Allen had a thing in middle school- the last year to be specific and unfortunately they didn’t work out. In fact, matt outright rejected Allen for a slut.”

He raised his hand quickly and in one swift move, slammed violently against my cheek. My head swatted to the side but for some reason I didn’t retaliate with violence, instead I began to laugh. “Well, that almost hurt as much as when he played you.”

Another slap to the next cheek came crashing onto my face, sending it to the next side. Still, I laughed it off. The look on his face, the sadness in his eyes and the humiliation I know the feeling he felt in his gut was smashing him to pieces and I was truly satisfied. Damn, when did I turn into a sadist?

“So it all makes sense now,” I whispered to him, face to face, “You’re jealous, because the guy you liked deceived you and broke your heart and seeing two of them competing over me just brings back those painful memories.”

He was strangely quiet. He never once commented on my imaginary promiscuity or my height or anything that could make a little girl cry. His mouth remained pinned, lips sealed and eyes cloudy as a day in the May. He just turned and picked up his bag from the table where he sat and left the cafeteria calmly.

Once he left, all eyes reverted back to me. Some were shocked, some angry; most noticeably his friends while others held an invisible happiness.

“Ding Dong, the Bitch is dead!” I cheered with a coy grin at the end and exited the cafeteria after my job was done.

“Evan” Chris shouted, running down the hall towards me. He stopped and grabbed my shoulders, catching his breath. “I have something to tell you.” He said, with shaky breaths.

“Can it wait?”

He shook his head violently and rushed me over to Kim and Bobby were sitting in the vacant library. “No. It’s something I’ve wanted to get off my chest for a while now. It can’t wait any longer, I should have told you when the feelings started,” he started and sat me down in the chair opposite the two others. Their faces wore stoic and icy.

“Is it really that bad?” I asked them and with one simple unified nod, they answered.

Chris sat down next to me and grabbed me by the hands. “Oh my God…” I mumbled when I looked up at his face. He looked like he was…in love. Oh my God…I converted a straight guy! Is that bad or good? I shook my head and inhaled deeply.

“Evan, I’m in love and it’s hard to explain but I have to…you should know.” Oh My God…this is actually happening. My best friend is in love with me. I feel like Jessica Alba!

“Oh Chris…I understand completely.” I cooed and hugged him tightly.

Once we let go my eyes went to Bobby and Kim. They were confused as hell by the looks on their faces. I looked back at Chris who wore a huge smile. “So when did you first realize?”

He sighed in contentment and smiled brightly, “I realized an attraction the first time we met but I didn’t say anything to you because I didn’t want you to feel weird about it.”

“Wow…what did you like the most about it.”

“Oh my God, Evan, that’s’ sick!” Kim whisper-yelled, disgusted. What was so disgusting about it?

“What is?” Evelyn said who entered unnoticed and sat on Chris’ lap, placing a kiss on his lips.

I gasped loudly and nearly fell off my chair. “Wait, you were…you meant…wait.” my words came out choppy and I couldn’t complete any sentences.

“You okay Evan?” someone asked. I was sure it was a female’s voice but I wasn’t in the right mind frame to say. “Evan?”

I lifted my head to meet Evelyn’s worried eyes. I looked around in the palace sized library. I was about to panic but calmed down, instead I spoke, “Let me try and get this right, you and Chris are dating?”

“Well, we haven’t made anything official; we wanted to see your reaction first.” Chris said.

I was a little bit stunned that Evelyn wanted my approval; I mean she was the biggest Tramp-a-Zoid I’ve ever seen. “Oh Ev, you’re my sister, my twin and a beautiful girl…I also know you’re a tramp that sucks the life out of any man she has or ever will touch,” I stood, “So I approve but it’s your ball’s funeral Chris.”

They both smiled and kissed causing the three remaining to gag in disgust. Yeah, that’s going to take some getting used to. “So, what are you going to do about the situation involving your two lover boys?”

I sighed and smacked my head onto the green, round table, “I don’t know. Jacob is so sweet and is doesn’t hurt to the fact that he’s a football player. Alex is…Alex.”

“What does that mean?” Kim questioned.

“It means, I still can’t make him out. I don’t know if he’s for really sweet or just acting to gain my affection. It’s confusing.”

“You’re like a gay Brad Pitt; you have to choose either the cute and funny Jennifer Aniston or the sexy and dangerous Angelina Jolie.” Chris joked, producing a sharp look from me.

“You have some soul searching to do; whenever I get clustered I usually go out to the football field and just think.” Bobby suggested. Chris and Kim both looked over to him in a knowing manner. My eyes darted between the three.

“Is there something wrong with the field?”

‘No, it’s just…nothing.” Kim whispered and diverted her eyes to the book that was in front of her, pretending to be intrigued by its rather flat cover.

Something wasn’t right, but I left it alone. Standing up, I took one more look at Chris and Evelyn. “This is going to take some serious getting use to.” I said, cringing and leaving he room.

I walked the near empty halls until I reached the back entrance to the football field. The bleachers, white and clean were unlettered with garbage or students at the present and only the side of the wind could be heard.

I spotted a figure on the field with a foot ball in hand. It wasn’t until I got a little closer that I realized it was Jacob, throwing the ball up and down in his hands. It was the first time I had seen him in his crimson and white colored school jersey worn by the jocks in school.

Should I go talk to him? Maybe now wasn’t a good time. Before I could make a final decision, the ball landed near my feet. Shocked, I looked up and saw him walking towards the bottom row of the long, steel bleachers. I picked up the football and slowly walked over to him, growing more and more nervous.

“You wanted something?” was all he said. Not even a ‘hello ‘and in the most nonchalant tone I‘ve ever heard.

“Actually, I came out here to clear my mind.” I replied and at beside him.

There was a slight tension between us and I was sure that I wasn’t the only one between us who felt it. “Okay, about…”

“You, really, and Alex. I’m just confused.”

“You think it’s only you? I’ve been staying up at night, hardly eating, off my game whenever we play and my mind races at light speed whenever I think. Everything is clustered,” he stops to take a breath and turns to look at me, “but the one thing in my mind that is always clear is you. You are everywhere in my head Evan.”

“I’m sorry.”

He snorted. “Don’t say you’re sorry. Say you feel the same way.” He clenched his jaw and stood to his feet. “I don’t know how else to convince you, how else to tell you? Do I have to scale the moon, bring you a star, fucking carve it into the earth’s crust? What else do I have to do?” he pleaded, grabbing me by the hand.

“I don’t know…”

“Marry Me.”

I froze, “What?”

“You fucking heard me. Mary Me you little brunette haired, blue eyed, heartbreaking freshman.”

I searched his chaotic eyes and removed my hand from his, “Jacob, you’re losing it.”

“No, because that’s all that’s left.”

“No, there’s one thing that Alex has said that you haven’t.”

He searched my face for it until he found it and in a blanket of realization he spoke clearly, “I Love You Evan.”

“Don’t lie to Jacob.”

He shook his head violently, “How else can I explain this then? You are always on my mind.”

“I call it wanting what you can’t have.” I retorted.

“Well you’re wrong. I do, I really do.” The bell signaling lunch was over rang but we stood like mountains.

“Who are you trying to convince, me or you?”

I sighed deeply and dropped the football to rub his face with both his hands.”You know what, when you’re ready to stop making excuses, you know where I am.”

Before he could walk passed me, I gripped his broad shoulder, “Wait, what do you mean making excuses?”

“Evan, you’ve been hurt a lot and the situation with your father isn’t making it any better.”

“Don’t.” I snapped. “You know nothing about the situation with my dad, so don’t you go there.”

“Like I said, when you’re done with making excuses, I’ll be here.” he shook my hand off his shoulder and walked away. This time I let him and watched as his figure retreated away.

I huffed and sat down on the bleacher, staring at the football slightly rocking below.  There could not have been any truth to what Jacob was saying. He didn’t love me; he just said it because he felt that it would get me to say yes to him. But was he right about me making excuses? He couldn’t have been, right? I was over Danny, I was sure of it. Or was I in a blindly denial that was too dazzling to see through?

My phone rang in my pocket suddenly and upon looking at the number I growled in annoyance, “Evelyn if you’re calling to tell me anything about Chris’ balls I swear I’ll-”

“Dad’s awake.”

Later

We were in that all too familiar hospital hall again waiting people to come. Mom and Evelyn had left to get snacks seeing we’d be here a while. I disagreed to go because I wanted to talk to dad the moment he’d woken up. I needed- no deserved answers.

“Oh God, not you.”

I growled loudly. “Allen, what the hell are you doing here?” I spat when he came closer.

“To be honest I came here to see my father but right now I want to launch your head into one of these walls.”

“You better be damn happy that there are so many life saving people in here or you’d be dead by now, you waist of a perfectly good ovary!” I blasted towards him.

He opened his mouth to retort but a lady cleared her throat. We looked over to the nurse, standing with clipboard in her hand, “You can go in now.”

“You stay here.” I demanded but he just rolled his eyes.

“I’m going in Evan whether you like it or not, he’s my dad too.”

I laughed without humor, “Funny, you were the same boy who said that there was no way we could be brothers because I was a slut.”

“And I still agree that you are, but if this is a chance to get the truth, it’s best if we both do it together.” He said. For once, I agreed with him, so upon a nod my hand turned the knob and we both entered.

Dad’s face quickly turned to us when we entered. His eyes lit up when he saw me but clouded with confusion when they swung to Allen. “Evan, you look great but who’s this beside you,” his eyebrow quickly rose in curiosity, ‘your new boyfriend.”

Allen gagged and I peered over at him from the left side of me, “no dad. He’s patience Halliwell’s child.”

His face stiffened. “Oh, well, I haven’t seen Drew in a while; I thought h was out of school.”

“Wrong son Dad, you now, the one she had before me. Your child?”

He looked dup at the roof from his bed, “I see…that would mean that they told you.”

“Damn right they did.”

His face swung in our direction. “Watch your mouth Evan.”

I went quiet as tears began to rim my eyes. Allen grabbed my shoulder and pulled me back beside him. “Why didn’t we know about this? It could’ve saved the both of us a lot of insults to use on other people.”

“It’s complicated.”

“We’re both smart.” He answered, eyeing dad closely.

Dad sighed and sat up in his bed, “Why do you throw insults at one another?”

“He’s jealous that I get guys and he was dumped.”

Allen snorted, “He still doesn’t get it.”

“Oh, I get it; you’re a chronically unhappy bitch with balls who doesn’t want me to be happy.” I countered and folded my arms over my chest.

“Evan. Have you ever asked him why he’s jealous as you claim?” Dad questioned.

“Of course…,” I thought, “not.” I finished. “Well, it would be pretty stupid to anyway.”

“Well maybe you should, I brought you up to be a mature young man Evan and Allen, I’m sorry if I haven’t been there for you. But I left you in good hands and it was for your own good.”

“My dad died when I was a toddler so I’ve never really had a father, my big brother was my father figure.”

‘I’m sorry.” Dad whispered, no longer making eye contact. “I hope you can forgive me- the both of you.”

I looked over at Allen. He looked so forgiving as he nodded and smiled. It made sense. He’s never had a father and would do anything to have one. He’s just misguided which makes sense to why he lashes out so quickly at me. I nodded as well.

Dad smiled but it quickly stopped when the machine he was hooked to started making these loud beeping noises and quickly grew in pace. I ran up to him with Allen right behind me, “Dad, what’s going on?”I asked frantically. His eyes rolled to the back of his head and he started shaking tremendously. The door swung open and doctors ran in, grabbing both me and Allen and guided us out of the room.

“He’s going.” one of them said and put the oxygen mask over his mouth. I watched in heart beating horror as the beeping got louder and faster and faster and faster until…

…It went dead.
