Kate’s POV
“That makes the score 5-1 and I believe that this means that I have once again bested you. You still have much to learn if you ever wish to defeat me young grasshopper.” Y/N says with a teasing smile on her face which makes me groan and roll my eyes. I playfully push my annoying cousin who simply grins at me and chuckles as I walk away and head toward the spot where the rest of the girls are. Man, I can’t believe that I still can’t beat her at a little one-on-one beach soccer. She always has to be annoyingly good at most things, but at least she’ll never beat me at archery. I huff and slightly smile once I finally reach the girls. I sit down next to Yelena who fist-bumps me as I finally reach the group.
I notice that all of the girls are unusually quiet which catches me off guard and look over at Yelena for an explanation. However, I soon realize that she’s too busy looking over at the brunette sitting across from us. I quietly observe Wanda who practically has steam coming from her ears. I watch her jaw tick as she keeps her gaze ahead of us. I look over and notice my idiotic cousin who is seemingly oblivious to the effect of her actions. She’s currently talking to the overly flirtatious blonde. I finally look back at the Sokovian girl and put the pieces together.
I look back over and notice Y/N laughing along with Carol who has her hand placed on my cousin’s bicep. I simply shake my head once I see them heading out into the water together. As I look back over at Wanda, the rest of the girls and I can’t help but notice Wanda softly sigh in what seems like defeat. Then she pulls her legs towards her chest and rests her head on top of her knees as she continues to watch the two in silence.
Everyone else seems to be at a loss for words and doesn’t quite know what to say to cheer her up. I can’t help but feel bad once I see the sadness swimming in her eyes as she continues to watch Y/N and Carol interact. They’re both so hopeless. How can neither of them see their obvious feelings for the other? Geez just watching this all go down is making me sad. It looks like it’s time to play cupid and finally get the ball rolling! Y/N is so going to owe me big time. I smile to myself once an idea suddenly hits me. I look over to see my cousin exiting the water causing me to smile before setting my plan into motion.
“Hey, Wanda?” Everyone’s attention suddenly settles on me once they realize that I’ve spoken causing me to grow slightly nervous. But I make sure to keep my focus on the Sokovian girl in front of me. Wanda seemingly snaps out of whatever sad haze she was in once she realizes that I’ve spoken to her and she looks over and smiles slightly. “What’s up Kate?” Her kind demeanor causes my nerves to settle a bit and I return her smile as I ask my question.
“Have you had a chance to go out into the water yet?” Wanda tilts her head, and the confusion she feels is written all over her face causing me to explain my question. “I’m only asking because… well it seems like you have a lot on your mind at the moment. I know what that’s like and as a kid whenever that happened to me, I’d always go out for a swim. Something about being out in these waters can help us clear our mind and sometimes it even helps us gain a new perspective.”
She seems to think over what I’ve said for a moment and then she simply shakes her head at me as she smiles. “No, I haven’t gotten the chance to go for a swim, but that sounds like a really good idea. I think I’ll take you up on that suggestion Kate,” she says as she stands and takes her shorts and shirt off before walking towards the water. The girls were all attentively watching Wanda as she walked off to go take a dip in the water before suddenly their gazes all snapped towards me. I simply kept my eyes on my cousin while keeping a smile on my face.
I glance over at Yelena and noticed her already looking at me with a knowing smile on her face. She simply chuckled softly and shook her head at me causing me to grin at her. I look away from her and my attention is once again drawn toward Y/N. She is finishing up a game of volleyball with the boys and seems to be oblivious to the fact that Wanda is currently in the water. I also don’t miss the fact that Vision seems to have spotted Wanda and is now swimming toward her. He is most likely planning on putting the moves on her like he usually tries to do which is what I was hoping for.
All of the other girls stayed rather silent and seemed to be looking for something to say. The silence continues for a few minutes until Natasha finally breaks it and says, “What gives Bishop? Why’d you suggest that Wanda should take a dip in the water?” I laugh lightly and smile at her before saying, “That’s a good question, however, I find that you guys are wasting your time by looking at me. And if you were to instead look over at my dear old cousin, then you’d find the answers to all of your questions.”
All the girls, except for Yelena, send me a confused look before they swing their attention toward Y/N. She has apparently finished up her game of beach volleyball with the boys and is now standing at the grill with Steve and Bucky. I smile as I watch Y/N casually talk with her childhood friends. I wait for her to look over in the direction of the water so that she can see what is currently occurring.
I look over for a moment and notice that Carol had joined us at some point. I smile when I notice her also looking over in my cousin’s direction although with a seemingly perplexed expression. I glance back over at my cousin just in time to see her point out toward the water as she seemingly explains something to the boys. She goes to say something else to the boys only to do a double take and look back out at the water with a smile once she notices Wanda. However, her smile only lasts for a few seconds before it is soon wiped completely off her face. Her posture suddenly grows rigged once she notices that Wanda is not alone and is in fact in the presence of none other than Vision.
We all watch as a scowl makes its way onto Y/N’s face as she watches the two of them with extreme interest. It isn’t long until her jaw begins to tick once she sees the Sokovian girl laughing along with Vision at whatever they seem to be talking about. It takes everything in me not to laugh once I see my dear older cousin stomping towards us like a child who just saw someone playing with her favorite toy. It’s comical how she seems to have steam practically coming out of her ears.
When I look over at the other girls, I see the amusement written on their faces. We watch as Y/N’s obvious jealousy and frustration continue to grow as she makes her way over to us. Once Y/N finally reaches us, she comes over and plops down next to me on the sand before falling onto her back and letting out a groan of frustration. “Is everything alright Y/N? Did Steve and Bucky say something to upset you?” Carol asks in a questioning tone which makes me glance over at Yelena who looks as if she’s about ready to laugh.
Y/N sighs and calmly says, “I’m good Carol, I just forgot about something and was a bit frustrated once I remembered but I’ll be okay. Thanks for checking in with me though, I appreciate it.” I laugh quietly at my cousin’s lame attempt to cover up her feelings. Especially when it isn’t as if she doesn’t make them blatantly obvious to everyone around her. I glance over at Yelena and we both smirk at each other. We both know that my plan has gone exactly how it was supposed to up until this point.
I then look out towards the water and notice that Wanda is swimming towards the shore as I excitedly point out towards the water. “Oh my god! Y/N! Y/N! Look! The dolphins are swimming close enough for you to see them again!” The other girls shoot me a bunch of confused looks since there are no dolphins in the water, but Y/N doesn’t seem to notice and quickly sits up again to look out into the water before huffing. “Kate I don’t see…”
Whatever else Y/N was going to say dies off causing the other girls to whip their heads over to see what has gotten her attention. I grin as I look at my cousin who seems to be completely transfixed by the sight of Wanda emerging from out of the water. I look on to see the rest of the girls look back over at Y/N who seems to be in a world of her own. Her mouth hangs open slightly and she whispers a quiet wow to herself which makes me smile at her.
I look over at Wanda and notice her looking directly at Y/N with a slight blush on her cheeks. I simply shake my head in amusement at the two. Hopefully, my plan worked and helped nudge them in the right direction toward each other. Y/N deserves to be happy, and I just know that her finally being able to be with Wanda will make her happy. And who knows maybe if they end up together then I might have a future in the match-making field! I grin to myself and look over to see Yelena who has a matching grin on her face, which tells me that she knew exactly what I had just done.
