Christian Thorne pov

I trek down the hall to my room, trying to calm down from a retrogressing anger that can whip me into doing something evil.

What are you planning Cassandra? What have you done?

Those two questions linger in my mind, capturing it and makes no attempt to release it, even on ransom.

I punch the up arrow on the elevator as my impatience take over. I hold my phone, flipping it through my hands. Seeking for clarity to know my next step. Irrationally, I want to call Cassandra and demand answers but by now I know she is good at her games.

I will get no answers from her, instead I will be where she wants me to be.

And no, I can’t let her know of my recent discoveries or doubts. She will play it safe. I must catch her off guard, it is my turn now.

What she can’t take at her core is being irrelevant and ignored, and the past few months that is how it has been, her words.

She loves to be in power and I am sure she is capable of doing anything to get it back.

With my recent decision it will strip her all the power she has loved to have. She is against it but my mind is made up and there is no turning back.

Katerina! Who are you?

Another thought in crime joins. Why did Cassandra fight so hard to have her as my assistant. She is ineffective and has no ounce of professionalism and ethics. The academic papers presented to me are an opposite reflection of her work. How can someone who is so academically gifted be so efficacious challenged?

There is nothing that is a coincidence. My father said and I am starting to believe it.

Cassandra is a jealous woman she ensured all my assistant never surpassed her standard of beauty while Katerina is everything she would be jealous of. Yet she brought her to me and even surprisingly engineered the idea I bring her along to this trip. Something she wouldn’t agree to previously.

I don’t know if she suspects that I have cheated on her. She is an intuitive woman with means. Or Katerina already confessed to her. No, she doesn’t seem like someone with a conscience to do so.

The elevator doors open, and I step in just as Ava texts me to say she’s gone to look around, despite the fact that she’s a frequent visitor here and has no reason to accompany me. I’ve seen her grow, and I know what she wants, but I can’t give it to her. I’ve been there, done that, and nothing good came of it.

Immediately I get to my room I head to my mini bar and grab a drink from it and head to the balcony to let it burn my throat hoping it will offer clarity.

I hate aimless thoughts, they are poison to my body and I would rather find a solution to them or accept my situation but not stress about it. I call my private investigator and tell him to dig deeper and see if he can uncover who Katerina is.

I did check her background like my all employees. Cases of drunk driving are the only ones that popped up. Yet still I feel like she is more that what meets the eyes.

She lives like a college student. And I am not referencing her squeezed tiny apartment. It is from the way she dresses, organizes herself, talks, her thought process is immensely flawed. Everything i would dislike in a grown adult but yet I feel like a knight that should save her.

Last night thoughts flood my head, her sensual body on top of me and how for once she was like a disciplined child as she did not so child friendly activities on me. She can ride a man, damn!

I shake my head and gulp another drink down. The drink only makes my memory clear, big boobs bouncing, boobs that i badly to fondle like stress ball and hope they offer me the relieve i badly crave.

I hear the front door open and I assume it Ava.

“Hey, man!” I turn to find it is Oliver Cooper.

He disappears for a while and returns with his own drink.

“What happened, I have been waiting for the past thirty minutes.” He says. I hate been late and he knows anything past five minutes means I am not coming.

“I am sorry, something came up.” I say.

“I can see.” He says sarcastically, eyeing my drink.

I take a final gulp, finishing the contents in my glass.

“Ahmed and his men are waiting.” He informs me and cast him a glance. He is dressed in a dark suit looking like a man who signs life changing documents, an attire fitting to our todays agenda.

“Are you sure this is what you want?” He asks when no answer follows his earlier remark. “It wasn’t easy for my sister to agree to help.” He adds.

“And i appreciate what she has done.” I answer as i stand and get inside my room to pick my coat that is on the couch, getting ready to leave.

I find Katerina outside my door as soon as I open it, and I’m surprised that she knows my room number. When she takes a step closer, I can smell alcohol in her breath, but my attention is drawn to her appearance. She is dressed in one of the outfits I bought her, a black pencil skirt that extends a few inches past her knees and a cream button up chiffon shirt. She purposefully unbuttons two of her upper buttons, exposing her cleavage. When I take my gaze away from her chest and return it to her eyes, she smiles triumphantly at me.

“I didn’t think i would be seeing you so soon?” Oliver steps in front of me, his face all smitten by her.

She smiles politely at him, something she never does with me.

“This is a first.” He turns to me, “I never knew you travelled with your assistant.”

“I never do.”

“Then she must be exceptional in her work.”

“You have no idea.” I say sarcastically as Katerina shoots me a death glare and i am surprised that she doesn’t say something snarky.

“I am ready for our next meeting and this time i brought my notebook.” She waves her new diary at my face, clearly she just bought it minutes ago.

“You are not going with me,” I inform her.

“And why did you bring me along?”

“For when I need you, but I don’t right now.” I respond, and she looks at me puzzled.

“More free time for us to enjoy the scenery this place has to offer.” Oliver chides in, his desire for her clear. He knows that it is not a must for him to accompany me to my meeting. It is out of friendship that he is here.

“Actually she is coming with me.” I say ,contradicting myself. I shouldn’t care who Oliver wants but i feel wary of Katerina.

He has bedded two of my previous assistants. I didn’t care, they wanted him and what his name would bring on their table. During my bachelor days, we competed who would bed as many women as possible, he won. He is still the same playboy and i can see in his eyes that Katerina is his next target, something i won’t allow.

“But..” Oliver starts to speak but i am quick to cut in.

“She’ll accompany me.” I adamantly states and he quickly realizes that I’m trying to keep him away from Katerina.

“Fine.” He says looking at me, “See you around.” He turns to Katerina.

“I can give you my phone number and we can enjoy those sights later.” She suggests with a wicked look aimed at me. I sigh and turn away as she enters her number into his phone. Of course, she, like the other girls, is only interested in a man because of his name. She slept with me, believing she could manipulate me; now that she can’t, Oliver Cooper is her best option.

“Let’s go.” I order and she rolls her eyes before following me.

I hope having her in that meeting will not come to bite me in the future.
