As the incense burned down, the auspicious time arrived.
Luo Jinxiao stood up and pushed the door open, swiftly running out into the courtyard. There stood Qu Weiyin, adorned for the day. Her brows were delicately drawn like willow leaves, long and slender. Her phoenix-like eyes sparkled with a hint of autumnal waters, while her red lips were shyly pressed together.
With a golden crown securing part of her hair, ribbons dangled and swayed, softly obscuring half of her face.
A sudden wave of emotion surged within Luo Jinxiao, resembling the turmoil of the sea. Unable to suppress her smile, she quickly approached.
“Jinxiao,†Qu Weiyin said softly, extending her hand to meet Luo Jinxiao’s palm. The constraints of her wedding attire made her feel a bit more restrained as she allowed Luo Jinxiao to lead her.
Suddenly, a loud crash startled Luo Jinxiao, causing her to break out in a cold sweat. Looking up, she saw Qiongqi holding a gong, with the tail of a suona clamped in its mouth while it waved a drumstick around, swaying unsteadily.
Then, joyous music rang out from seemingly nowhere, and red paper began to rain down from above. The tree demon and Xiuer emerged from the house, both clad in red garments.
Yan Ying cheerfully jumped out, calling loudly, “It’s time for the ceremony! Bow to heaven and earth!â€
Feeling shy as well, Luo Jinxiao grasped Qu Weiyin’s hand and turned her back to the house, bowing toward the vast azure sky before them.
May heaven and earth witness their bond, blessing their eternal love.
“For the second bow, since everyone’s not present, let the wives bow to each other!†Yan Ying shouted, her voice carrying across the lively atmosphere.
Luo Jinxiao turned around to meet Qu Weiyin’s gaze. Qu Weiyin suddenly broke into a radiant smile, dazzlingly beautiful, causing the surrounding light to dim as she shone luminously in Luo Jinxiao’s view.
The two slowly bent forward, their eyes never leaving each other.
May they never part.
“Ceremony complete! Congratulations to the two of you for joining as one!â€
Luo Jinxiao was nearly swept away by joy as she lifted her head, and Qu Weiyin dashed into her embrace, wrapping her arms tightly around Luo Jinxiao’s waist and smiling up at her.
“I’m so happy, Jinxiao,†she said softly.
Just as Luo Jinxiao was about to respond, a sudden loud crash broke through the atmosphere. This sound was not like the previous ones; it was a deafening roar that shook the ground beneath them.
The surrounding festive atmosphere came to an abrupt halt as Qiongqi dropped the suona and let out a powerful roar.
“What’s happening?†Yan Ying asked, taken aback. She stood on her tiptoes to look into the distance, where the once tranquil forest was now engulfed in thick plumes of smoke. Through the chaos, faint cries and screams could be heard, sending chills down everyone’s spines.
The source of the noise seemed to be in the Demon Realm.
“No, this is bad,†Qu Weiyin suddenly said, her form shifting into light as she flew away in a flash.
Luo Jinxiao didn’t have time to stop her; she hurriedly pressed down on the tree demon and Xiuer, who attempted to follow, and said sharply, “Stay here and don’t go anywhere; Qiongqi, we’re leaving!â€
She leaped into the air, using her sword to follow closely behind Qu Weiyin. Once they flew over the small hill, chaos erupted before their eyes. The barrier that should have protected the area had been shattered, and countless small demons were fleeing in every direction. The ground was littered with bodies, creating a horrific scene.
“How could this happen…†Luo Jinxiao murmured, unable to believe what she was seeing. Panic surged through her heart as she called out loudly, “Qu Weiyin!â€
No one responded; Qu Weiyin was nowhere to be seen, and the maelstrom of chaotic demonic and magical energy surrounding them made it impossible to determine her whereabouts.
This was terrible, she thought, feeling chaotic and anxious. Although Qu Weiyin was powerful, her mental state was fragile in such turmoil, and if things went awry, it could spell disaster.
Luo Jinxiao accelerated forward, constantly searching for Qu Weiyin’s figure.
The scene below was akin to a hell on earth, with fire burning everywhere. Most of the demons living here were innocent and had never experienced conflict; how could they resist such external threats? They were simply slaughtered.
As Luo Jinxiao chased on, she encountered numerous bodies—both transformed and untransformed—tightening her heart in anguish.
The deeper she ventured, the more corpses she saw. Cries and sounds of fighting echoed not far away, and using her power to flash past, she glimpsed a flower demon armed with a stick adorned with flower thorns, standing bravely against dozens of men in black.
“The Death Sect.†Luo Jinxiao’s heart sank. Why had the Death Sect invaded the Demon Realm, and why were they killing? Had they gone mad?
Hua Xianrui had shed her usual demeanor, her expression resolute as she defended hundreds of small demons behind her. Yet, it was clear that her conjured petals were dwindling, and she couldn’t hold out for long.
Upon closer inspection, Luo Jinxiao noticed a wound on her chest, having already stained her clothes red.
Luo Jinxiao was suddenly caught in a dilemma; she needed to find Qu Weiyin quickly, but if she just left, these demons would be left to die.
Hua Xianrui suddenly coughed up blood, half-kneeling on the ground, and a group of black-clad men charged forward, causing the small demons to scatter in fright.
Luo Jinxiao could no longer hesitate; she drew her sword and landed forcefully, unleashing her spiritual energy in an explosive wave that forced the black-clad attackers back.
Yet they surged forward like madmen, eyes filled with greed, continuing their assault. Realizing the danger, Luo Jinxiao stopped holding back. Wu Jue transformed into hundreds of clones, swift as arrows, while she unleashed divine power, tearing open the ground and conjuring winds that swept stone and dust into the air, the light of her sword flashing brilliantly.
Once the chaos dissipated, the black-clad men lay on the ground, unable to rise.
Just as she turned to help Hua Xianrui, panic gripped her as she saw that at some point, Hua Xianrui had been pierced through the heart by a sword. Blood flowed freely, and a strange fragrance emanated from her body, as if seeping out in her last moments, staining the earth.
Luo Jinxiao quickly knelt halfway, pouring her spiritual energy into Hua Xianrui’s body, desperately trying to heal her. However, she soon realized it was futile; Hua Xianrui’s demonic energy was draining too quickly for her to grasp onto.
“Flower Demon, hold on,†Luo Jinxiao said, her nose tingling, tears brimming in her eyes.
“It’s no use, don’t worry about me,†Hua Xianrui said weakly. She turned and waved to the small demons, urging them to flee, and they dashed away with tears in their eyes, disappearing into the forest.
Only then did she feel some relief. Returning her gaze to Luo Jinxiao, she lingered for a brief moment before telling her, “Don’t waste time; go find Master Qu. She went to Tianshan.â€
“These people have been manipulated; surely there are others who have intruded.†As Hua Xianrui spoke, her voice grew fainter, the blood from her chest pooling onto the grass, causing the flora around her to suddenly flourish.
She slumped to the ground, her entire body of flowers gradually wilting.
Luo Jinxiao felt as though her heart was collapsing. Just days ago, this vibrant individual had been full of life, and now she was taken away in an instant.
“Don’t forget about me,†Hua Xianrui murmured almost inaudibly. Her pupils dilated, and her body transformed into a lotus flower, slowly melting into the earth.
The scene unfolded too rapidly; in a daze, Luo Jinxiao realized her arms were now empty.
One person had silently vanished from this world.
Luo Jinxiao sniffled, her body morphing into a beam of light. She soared into the sky with the utmost speed, like an arrow released from a bow, racing towards Tianshan.
Qu Weiyin must not come to harm.
They had just married, and they had already performed their vows before heaven and earth. She hadn’t even had the chance to embrace her; she absolutely couldn’t let anything happen to her.
If she did, she would go mad.
As Luo Jinxiao flew toward Tianshan, the stench of blood became increasingly overwhelming. Her surroundings were drenched in blood, saturating half the mountain and striking horror into her heart.
The figures she saw were all dressed in black, most sporting visible sword wounds—clear signs of battle.
Luo Jinxiao’s heart plunged into despair. She was getting closer to the Clear Pool, and there, standing by its edge, was Qu Weiyin. She stood sideways to Luo Jinxiao, clad in red, her golden crown torn away, and her long black hair flowing freely.
Qu Weiyin was covered in blood, but it was not her own; even her pale cheeks were splattered, accentuating her crimson eyes. In that moment, she resembled a hellish demon, a god of slaughter in the mortal realm.
The demonic energy enveloped the mountains, and every flower and tree had withered. The oppressive force rolled toward Luo Jinxiao, causing her heart to throb painfully and her head to spin, nearly buckling her legs beneath her.
“Qu Weiyin.†Luo Jinxiao slowly called as she took cautious steps toward her, intent on not alarming her.
Suddenly, Qu Weiyin turned around, and the two locked eyes. Her expression was cold, bloodthirsty, and merciless.
In that instant, Luo Jinxiao felt as if a bucket of icy water had been poured over her.
Qu Weiyin raised her sword, its blade smeared with blood, pointing it directly at Luo Jinxiao. Her eyes were devoid of any warmth, treating Luo Jinxiao as though she were an enemy.
“You all deserve to die,” she uttered, her voice chilling, as she began to step closer.
Luo Jinxiao stood frozen in place, her heart pounding. She lowered her weapon and murmured, “Qu Weiyin, it’s me.â€
What had just happened? Were these people the ones she had killed?
How could this be possible… Luo Jinxiao felt the world around her spin, her vision blurring as the blade of the Moonlit Star Sword approached her.
Yet, she did not resist.
She refused to believe that Qu Weiyin would ever harm her.
It wasn’t until the sharp pain of the blade piercing her skin snapped her back to reality that she staggered back, bending down to clutch her wound, incredulously raising her gaze to Qu Weiyin.
“Qu Weiyin.†She gritted her teeth, calling out loudly, but Qu Weiyin’s expression remained unflinching.
“Master Uncle…†her voice trembled, laden with anguish.
Qu Weiyin suddenly froze, her eyes flickering with a moment of panic. Then, the sword fell from her hand with a clang, and her blood-red figure spun around. In a few swift strides, she reached the edge of the Clear Pool and leaped in.
Unbeknownst to her, the Clear Pool had suddenly filled overnight, the water deep and unfathomable. Her red garments plunged into the water, creating a splash as she sank beneath the surface.
It appeared Qu Weiyin was determined to end her life, showing no signs of struggle.
“Qu Weiyin!†Luo Jinxiao shouted, not hesitating as she jumped into the water after her. The sunlight had warmed the water, making it feel soothing and clear. Rays of light streamed through the surface, creating a dazzling shimmer on the water.
Her skirt and hair floated in the water, resembling delicate butterflies swaying with the current.
Qu Weiyin’s figure sank before her eyes, and Luo Jinxiao swam desperately. No matter how she reached out, she couldn’t grasp the edge of Qu Weiyin’s clothing, and she seemed to drift further away.
Underwater, Luo Jinxiao found herself unable to scream or cry; she swam with all her strength, but the scene ahead only grew more blurred.
A silent sense of collapse enveloped her, and a suffocating sensation surged up; somehow, everything in her vision suddenly turned black.
In her final moments, she caught a glimpse of someone swimming toward her from below—it seemed someone had been hiding beneath the water all along.
Then, she slipped into unconsciousness completely.
Drip, drip, drip—uncertainan sounds of water echoed around her.
Luo Jinxiao gradually opened her eyes, the sights around her shifting from blurred to clear.
She coughed up a few mouthfuls of water, feeling her heart and lungs constricted painfully.
It seemed she was lying flat on the ground, gazing up at a high dome that sparkled with light.
Luo Jinxiao slowly got up and took a closer look, only to realize it wasn’t sunlight but rather a massive luminous pearl adorning the ceiling.
“Qu Weiyin…†she murmured, suddenly springing to her feet. Just as she was about to look around, a large snake appeared before her, sending her heart racing in the fright.
Luo Jinxiao took a sudden step back, only to realize that what she had thought was a large snake was actually a long line of snake corpses, having died long ago, leaving behind only desiccated skins.
Suddenly, it dawned on her that this place was eerily familiar. Memories surfaced in her mind—this was the celestial realm she had visited with Qu Weiyin, and the large snake was the one they had slain together, known as Zhu Jiuyin.
Why was she here? Where was Qu Weiyin?
When Luo Jinxiao turned around again, a tall figure stood behind her. She jumped in shock, taking a hasty step back, cautiously eyeing the person.
“It’s you again?†she frowned, recognizing the tall woman, who stood at least eight feet tall. “Did you knock me out?â€
“Yes, it was me,†the woman replied, her voice sounding ancient.
Luo Jinxiao stepped forward a few paces and demanded, “Where is Qu Weiyin? What have you brought me here for?â€
“Don’t concern yourself with her,†the woman said.
“How can I not worry?!†Luo Jinxiao retorted fiercely. She attempted to circumvent the woman and escape the temple.
However, the woman’s figure silently shifted again, blocking her path. She shook her head. “She has fully embraced the demon path and should now have become a demon lord in the Demon Realm. If you go out to look for her, it will only lead to your death, without a doubt.â€
“Then I’ll still go!†Luo Jinxiao refused to heed her warning, drawing her sword and attempting to push past her. “Get out of my way, or I’ll kill you.â€
“If you leave now, not only will you be killed by her, but she will also perish in the end!†The woman suddenly raised her voice, causing Luo Jinxiao to halt in her tracks.
“What do you mean?†she asked in astonishment.
The woman in black robes slowly turned around, letting out a heavy sigh. “You need to find yourself and resolve the person causing turmoil in this world for any chance to stop it. Neither gods nor immortals are the true rulers of this realm. The death of all is a punishment from heaven and earth.â€
Luo Jinxiao felt confused by her words, yet somewhere deep inside, it seemed she was not lying.
She turned to look at her for a moment before suddenly asking, “How can I trust you?â€
The woman stood there, and suddenly, a silver light flashed around her, causing the black robe to appear much larger.
The hood that covered her face slipped off, and Luo Jinxiao was taken aback. This face was all too familiar.
It was Luo Ning!
