“Chaewon-ah!! You’re here.” Yena put on her cheerful face, in order to throw Chaewon’s suspicions away.
“Where’re you two going at this time?” Chaewon asked, putting her hand on her hips.
“I was about to go home when I met him earlier. What’re you doing out here?” Yena returned the question.
“I was just at the convenience store, I felt like taking a walk, you know. I was about to go home, and noticed that you two were walking together. So, where were you going?”
“Oh we just happened to meet each other.” Yena replied. Chaewon raised her eyebrow after she felt like Yena was lying to her.
“Are you sure you two aren’t going somewhere together? Because I’ve been following you for a while, and it doesn’t seem like you two had met by chance.”
“We did! Right, Y/N?”
He agreed.
“…so where’re you two headed to, then?” Chaewon did not back down, and pressured her to confess.
“Like I said, I was on my way home. Y/N here said he was taking a stroll, when he heard me call out to him. We decided to talk for a bit, and here we are!”
Feeling like she won’t be able to get an honest answer out of her, she turned her eyes and looked into Y/N’s eyes, asking for his side of the story.
After getting to know Y/N for a few weeks, there’s a secret that she had learned which she assumed no one would know. That is if Y/N were to ever hide something from her, his eyes would not be able to return her stare. Even if he did, it would not be for long, and that was the case this time. He turned his gaze away, making Chaewon sure that there was indeed something between them.
“Unnie. Don’t lie to me. You two were going somewhere together, weren’t you?” She felt herself close to being found out, raising her tone to intimidate her.
“Wh-what’re you talking about?!” Yena cursed at herself, due to her stutter when answering.
“Unnie. Answer me.” Chaewon held both of her shoulders, making her unable to move. Yena was reluctant to give her an answer, let alone look her in the eye. Knowing something was wrong, she turned her eyes to Y/N who she knew would never lie. Y/N felt surprised by her sudden stare, as he unconsciously looked away making her feel hurt.
“Oh yeah! I was uh… picking my bag from my cousin’s house! You know, I hung out at her place after I got back from the…”
In the midst of all this happening, Y/N wasn’t sure about what he has to do, seeing Yena still stubborn on keeping her problems from her. It looked as if Yena was about to finally tell Chaewon about her situation, but then swallowed it up. Chaewon on the other side looked as if she was about to cry, making something inside Y/N eager to tell her about the truth.
But he knows that Yena wouldn’t be happy about it, making him also hesitant about revealing everything that’s happening between them. After thinking of every possible outcome, he still could not decide on which route he should take, as every route has its own risk.
Yena took a look at his face, and was surprised to see him not act composed as he usually is. Most of the time, he would have this calm composure when answering anything they’d ask. But this one, was the first ever since they’ve met.
“Chaewon-ah. I… I have something to tell you.”
“Yena-ya?” He called, knowing that Yena will spill the truth about herself. He stopped her before she could talk more, wanting her to think things through.
“Oh my.” A soft voice was heard, as they turned to see a middle-aged woman standing behind them.
“Eomma.” He called.
“Y/N are these your friends?” His mother seemed happy after seeing Y/N talking with two others she has never met.
“They are.” He moved aside to let her get a clearer look on Chaewon. Both of the girls introduced themselves politely to the mother, setting their problem aside.
“Why’re you here?” He asked his mother.
“I was worried that you weren’t back for quite some time. I tried to call your phone, but it wouldn’t come through.”
“I’m sorry for making you worried. My battery died the moment I was about to go home.”
“I see. Well I’m glad to see now that you’re okay. And also, I just finished fixing dinner, so why don’t the two of you come and join us?” She offered.
“I’m sorry Mrs.Lim, but I don’t think that’s a good-”
“We’ll happily accept the invite, Mrs Lim.” Yena intercepted before Chaewon could reject her invitation.
“Great! Now follow me.” She turned around, before Chaewon could say another word.
“Unnie?” Chaewon turned to Yena.
“Think about it. We can ask his parents for further information about his condition, Chaewon-ah.”
Now that she thought about it, what Yena had said to her might be correct. Why shouldn’t she use this chance to have a talk with his parents?
“I don’t know, unnie. It all just seems too sudden for us to-“
“Look. It’ll be bad for us if we reject her offer. Wouldn’t you feel dejected if you were in her shoes? I’m sure she has lots of things to say to us, Chaewon-ah. So please, let’s go there, okay?” She begged, praying to God that Chaewon would be convinced.
“…fine. We’ll have a little chit-chat over dinner, and then ask her parents about Y/N’s condition before we go home.”
“Thank you, Chaewon-ah.” She might look composed on the outside, but on the inside she was rejoicing over the fact that she had dodged a bullet by accepting her offer, and averting Chaewon’s mind from the main issue.
After walking around two more corners, they finally reached the place where Y/N would call his home.
The two girls invited themselves in, after being invited by the mother of their friend. Both parents welcomed them warmly, treating them as special guests as it almost made them feel uncomfortable. The brother on the other hand greeted them normally, as he had met them before.
Being asked the question of how they met, Chaewon answered everything based on how far her memories could take her. Yena would occasionally correct her at times, with the parents nodding to everything they told.
Y/N just agreed to everything they said, without saying anything from his side of the story. He felt what they told them was already enough, without needing him to complete it.
Just as he was about done with his dinner, he helped with piling the dishes up into the kitchen where his mom is already at.
“Mom. Can I ask you a favor?” Feeling delighted as it was one of the rare times he’d ask for anything, she asked.
“What is it?”
“Can I have the girl named Yena sleep over at our place?” The mother didn’t know how to react, thinking that he must be going through puberty. Of course, she didn’t agree to it instantly and asked.
“I’m sure that you don’t have any ill intentions behind this, but can I ask why?”
He felt conflicted, unsure of whether he’s going to lie to his mother or not. By his logic, he knew that the chances of his mother allowing her friend to do so was pretty low. A lot of possibilities are going through his head, knowing it could lead him to either her agreeing to let Yena sleep over, or rejecting his favor and ending up letting Yena down.
“Because… uh…”
The mother was taken aback at how Y/N is handling the current situation. She never thought that she would ever see her son be hesitant on answering her question. Usually whenever she’d ask her something, no matter how bad it was, he’d not hesitate and tell her the truth. But this wasn’t the

“Okay then. I won’t ask anymore questions, Y/N. She can sleep in our guest room.” He let out a sigh of relief, before thanking her as he went back to the dinner table.
“Did he just…” After all the years of living with her emotionless son, this was one of the rare times where he’d show consecutive reactions. Hesitating, sighing of relief. She had never seen any of it, thinking that he was never able to do so. Until today.
