HARD TO GET CHAPTER TEN!
â› drunk dazed âœ
in which chaewon swings again

so, maybe chaewon is a little bit nervous.
she’s standing on the balcony overlooking the main hall, feeling pleasantly warm and buzzed after her second cup of beer. still, the alcohol isn’t quite enough to take the edge off her nerves as she waits for a certain someone to show up.
chaewon checks the time on her phone. 11 pm. she’s pretty sure she saw misun’s friend daemin down on the dance floor with sakura earlier, but there hasn’t been any sign of misun anywhere. where is she?
then she spots her, and her heart kicks up immediately. she’s standing over by the couches with that blond girl—min aecha is her name, according to yunjin. chaewon watches as aecha gives misun a hug before heading off in the direction of the basement, leaving misun by herself.
chaewon smirks and decides to get comfortable, casually leaning against the railing with her drink in hand. she takes a sip and firmly resolves not to approach her first.
bae misun isn’t the only girl who can play hard to get.
literally not even thirty seconds later, chaewon’s resolve crumbles and she finds herself walking downstairs and shoving through the crowds until she reaches the girl in question.
“hey, misun!” she calls out, raising her voice to be heard above the music blasting from the speakers. “you made it.”
misun turns at the sound of her name, and she gives chaewon a sweet smile when they make eye contact. “i don’t usually go to parties, so this is kind of new for me…”
“i’m glad you’re here,” chaewon says, struggling to keep her gaze on misun’s eyes and not her lips. “you look amazing, by the way.”
she winces internally as soon as the words leave her mouth. ugh, she sounds so dry. she sounds so… friendly.
chaewon does not want to be her friend.
she wants to make out with this girl.
“thank you,” misun mumbles, her smile turning shy as she looks down and fiddles self-consciously with the ends of her sleeves. “so what do you usually do at these parties?”
“well…” chaewon shrugs and runs a hand through her hair in an attempt to play it cool. “people drink, dance, hang out, make out…”
she makes direct eye contact with misun and puts on a clear show of smirking and biting her lip after saying that last part, except misun doesn’t show any indication of taking the hint. either she’s the densest person on the planet or she’s just really good at playing hard to get.
“maybe i can start with drinks,” misun says thoughtfully, looking down at chaewon’s cup. “um, what are you drinking?”
“oh, this? shitty beer.” chaewon takes a swig and makes a face. “this stuff is gross, come with me and i’ll make you something way better.”
she grabs misun’s hand, making her let out a surprised “oh!”, and leads her over to the bar area. she mixes up a cocktail in a fancy glass (yena usually keeps those glasses strictly reserved for important vip guests, but chaewon is pretty sure she wouldn’t mind) and slides it over to her with a proud smile. “try this.”
misun takes a tentative sip, and her eyes go round with surprise. cute. “it’s good!”
“so… dancing was next on the list, if i remember right,” says chaewon casually, coming back around to misun’s side of the bar and fixing her with a charming grin. “wanna dance with me?”
for a second misun looks like she really wants to say yes (though it’s probably just chaewon’s delusion making her imagine things), but she shakes her head. “i think i’ll just finish drinking this,” she says, shyly smiling back. “but you can go ahead.”
chaewon shrugs, not wanting to pressure her, and downs some more alcohol before waving goodbye and going off to dance. she finds her friends and dances for who knows how many songs before stumbling off the dance floor, legs shaky from exertion. time for a break…
she chances a look back to see how misun’s doing, and her eyes narrow. she’s still sitting where chaewon left her, but now there’s some random guy with her… and he’s standing really close. like, really close.
jealousy makes chaewon’s jaw clench, and she sizes up the situation. the guy is super tall, a good deal taller than misun—which is saying something, since misun herself is nearly a head taller than chaewon.
does she like taller people? chaewon feels like hitting something. or crying. what if i’m not her type?
chaewon watches as the guy leans closer, and her fists tighten so hard that her nails leave indents in her skin. but then she sees misun shy away from his advances with a shake of her head, and her heart leaps with relief. she’s saying no!
except the guy doesn’t seem to take the hint. if anything, he takes it as an invitation to move even further into her personal space. what the hell?
instantly, chaewon’s jealousy is overtaken by righteous anger. without a second thought, she takes a big gulp of beer for some liquid courage before stomping over with only one goal in mind.
“hey!” she barks once she’s within reach of the guy, grabbing his shoulder and dragging him around to face her. “pretty sure she wants you to leave her alone, asshole.”
unexpectedly, recognition flashes across the guy’s face when their eyes meet. he smirks down at her, misun seemingly forgotten. “oh, hey chaewon. what’s the matter, did you decide that you want me back now?”
whaaat?
chaewon blinks, her grip on his shoulder loosening in confusion. “…do i know you?”
he blinks back. “it’s minwoo,” he says, rubbing the back of his neck uncertainly. “kim minwoo.”
chaewon blinks again. nope, not ringing a bell.
he deflates. “we dated… last year…”
oh.
a cough from misun breaks the awkward silence, and chaewon remembers what she came here for in the first place. she grabs minwoo’s shoulders with both hands and unceremoniously manhandles his lanky frame around so he’s facing the other direction, then gives him a shove that makes him stumble a few steps. “whatever, i literally don’t care. go away!”
minwoo turns his head and looks like he wants to argue, but chaewon levels him with her fiercest glare (that yunjin says makes her look like a baby cheetah and is not at all intimidating, but chaewon is 100% adamant that it strikes fear into the hearts of all her enemies), and he wisely mumbles an apology and slouches off.
mission success. chaewon smiles victoriously to herself and turns back around to face misun. only to immediately trip over her own feet and lurch directly into the taller girl’s arms. “whoa!”
“are you okay?” misun asks in surprise, automatically putting her hands on chaewon’s waist to steady her and looking down at her with concern in her pretty eyes.
chaewon stares back with her mouth half open, all the heat in her body rushing to her face immediately. is it the alcohol or their proximity that’s making her heart pound?
“…are you okay?” she manages to stammer out after taking a few seconds to remember how to speak. she’s so… close to me…
“me? i’m fine.” misun presses a hand to chaewon’s forehead, eyebrows furrowing. “are you sure you’re okay though? your face feels really hot…”
chaewon can’t do anything but gape at her, completely lost for words. “um.”
“did you drink too much?” misun asks in a soft, worried voice. she touches chaewon’s cheek lightly, almost making the smaller girl stop breathing entirely. “maybe you should sit down. do you want me to go get you some water?”
chaewon doesn’t respond, her brain preoccupied with wondering if misun’s lips are as sweet as her personality. she swears she hears a chorus of sha la la la la la~ floating through her head while she stares at misun like an idiot.
“chaewon?” misun repeats, bringing her out of her daze.
the pounding music and the crowds of partygoers around them certainly aren’t helping chaewon reorganize her thoughts, and she feels a headache coming on. maybe i should lie down…
“can you… upstairs,” chaewon says weakly. “i have a room… third door on the right…”
“third door on the right? okay.” misun gently takes her arm, which is great because chaewon is pretty sure her knees are not functioning at the moment, and leads her upstairs and into the guest room reserved for chaewon. “is this it?”
“thanks…” chaewon flops onto the queen-size bed and faceplants into the pillow, cheeks flushed and heart racing. if misun wasn’t right there in the room with her, she would be kicking her feet and squealing like a lovesick schoolgirl. why is she so… so nice?
“i’ll go get you some water,” misun offers and starts toward the door, but stops in her tracks when chaewon rolls over and pouts at her. “or i could—”
“stay.” chaewon pats the mattress next to her. “come here?”
misun tentatively sits down on the bed next to chaewon, still keeping a respectful distance. “are you feeling better?”
“mm-hm…” chaewon props her head up on her hand and stares dreamily at her. the only light in the dark room is coming from a small lamp on the desk, and the music from downstairs is muffled up here with the door closed. it kind of feels like the two of them are in their own little world. it’s nice.
the silence that follows is comfortable but slightly charged, and chaewon feels this weird urge to say something sweet. like, you’re so pretty. or even, i think i really like you.
but of course what comes out of her mouth instead is: “we should make out.”
misun blinks. “what?”
“what?” the alcohol in her system is making her bolder than usual, that’s for sure. “you don’t want to?”
misun looks down, clearly flustered. “i—well, i don’t think—i mean, i didn’t—that’s probably not a—a good idea.”
chaewon deflates sadly. “i’m sorry,” she mumbles, looking away. “i don’t know what i’m saying.”
“n-no, it’s just—” misun clears her throat. is she blushing? “i mean, you’re drunk, so… you shouldn’t do anything you might regret tomorrow.”
“i’d still want to do this if i was sober,” chaewon protests. the words are spilling out faster than she can think. “do you want it too?”
misun avoids eye contact, looking down and twisting her fingers in the sheets. “…yes,” she says finally, in a voice that’s almost a whisper.
chaewon’s heart soars. “one kiss?” she sits up and shifts a little closer to misun on the bed. “i promise you’ll like it.”
“okay…” misun lifts her head to meet chaewon’s gaze, and then her eyes fall to her mouth. she looks almost mesmerized. “just one…”
surprisingly it’s misun who makes the first move, and then they’re kissing, finally. misun’s lips are even softer than they look, and the little noise she makes when the kiss deepens is the prettiest sound chaewon has ever heard.
she’s not exactly sure when or how things escalated, but misun’s fingers are tangled in chaewon’s hair and somehow chaewon’s hand has found its way onto misun’s ass when the bedroom door slams open.
“oh,” says yunjin, standing in the doorway and staring at them with her mouth open. “what the fuck?”
if chaewon could shoot lasers out of her eyes, yunjin would be a sizzling pile of ashes on the floor by now. “huh yunjin,” she says through gritted teeth. “you have five seconds to run.”
“I’M SORRY!” yunjin almost breaks the sound barrier sprinting back downstairs, which is good for her, because one more second and chaewon would’ve thrown something at her head. note to self: kill yunjin later.
suddenly chaewon feels cold, and she realizes that misun has pulled away. “wha—”
“i’m sorry,” misun stammers, not looking at her again. “you—i should—i… i should… go.”
it’s probably chaewon’s delusion talking again, but misun kind of looks like she doesn’t really want to leave as she gets up from the bed. and chaewon finds herself unable to do anything but watch while misun stumbles away from her.
chaewon just sits there on the bed, kiss-dazed and still buzzing with adrenaline.
what just happened?
