there was a little boy sitting on a big field of flowers, taking them and plucking their petals off. his mind somewhere he knew he wasn’t sad, where his thoughts are only good. in front of him a bunch of petals in all different colors.
“what are you doing?” the little boy looks up to see another boy around the same age as him. he wasn’t social at all. he gets anxious talking to other people and especially kids since he can’t know if they are going to like him or not. so he only looked at the boy standing in front of him with an innocent face and back on his pile of flower petals.
“why did you rip them off?”
“I didn’t rip them off. I was gently removing them.” the little boy didn’t let the other just assume he was ripping them off.
“what’s the difference?” the boy who was just standing sat beside the other playing with the petals on the floor.
“ripping sounds so brutal.” he answered, blankly watching the boy get seated beside him.
“what’s your name?”
“san.”
the scar on wooyoungs arm, the orphanage, a little boy plucking the petals off the flowers, everything from wooyoungs childhood was connected to san’s. he couldn’t believe he actually met wooyoung again after all those years. but there was something completely off here. wooyoung told him his friend got adopted but san never was. it was the opposite. they kicked him out of there, he never had the feeling of a welcoming family greeting him, he was just sent out the big world by the age of fifteen.
san is laying in his bed looking at the ceiling, trying to figure out why the orphanage lied to wooyoung. his thought were soon disrupted by the ringing of his phone. he wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone right now but when he saw wooyoungs name displayed on his phone he just needed to pick up.
“hello?”
“what are you doing?” wooyoung asked tossing around on his bed in boredom.
“nothing, why?” san heard a sigh on the other end.
“what about asking me what i am doing?” the younger said in a annoyed tone. the way wooyoung acts always makes san warm inside. he finds himself smiling like crazy.
“what are you doing?” san asked in a cute tone to make the younger feel better.
“nothing, i’m bored.” from both sides small giggles because of wooyoungs answer.
soon silence has again filled the call and the thoughts san had before came back flashing in his mind.
“hey do you mind telling me more about your friend back then?” san asked hoping he could get more information from wooyoung.
“i think i already told you everything about him. why do you wanna know?”
san panicked for a quick second. he could practically tell wooyoung about how san believes it was him his childhood friend. but he was scared that some issues or bad memories can come up. and also san doesn’t think wooyoung wants to know that he was being lied at all those years.
“uhm i dont know he just seems interesting.”
“what the actual fuck san?” san was mentally face palming himself.
“oh there was that one time we snuck into my parents office and then we got scolded by the other workers at the orphanage.” wooyoung said while laughing about the old times.
“your parents office?” san asked, completely sitting up.
“yea i told you my parents owned that orphanage.”
“his parents?”
“you did?” san asked again. that was a big piece of information.
“yes i did but that doesn’t matter now it’s all in the past.” wooyoung whined, wanting to talk about something else rather than his parents.
“yea it’s the past but a lot of the things were left unspoken.” san thought.
they continued their call for the next forty minutes. talking about all different kind of things.
“i have to tell you something and that’s probably the reason i called you in the first place but i was too nervous to bring it up before.” wooyoung spoke. he himself was a little hesitant with what he was saying.
“what it it?”
“I actually really hate my dad but my mom is really nice and caring and shekindafoundoutaboutus.” wooyoung mumbled which made san laugh a little but as he mentioned his parents he felt a little nervous.
“woo talk slowly.” san giggled.
“my mom know about us and she’s actually very interested in meeting you.”
san’s heart sank. he just figured out his childhood and how it has to do with wooyoung and his parents and now his mother wants to meet him? it was all going very fast for san but hearing wooyoung getting all excited about it, san just couldn’t say no to the younger.
“so do you wanna come over to my house tomorrow? don’t worry my dad is not there.”
“yea sure.” san unconsciously answered, immediately regretting it.
“tomorrow already?”
after some other minutes the call ended and san didn’t want to believe what’s happening right now. literally meeting the people that kicked him out for no reason at the age of fifteen. san was fucking scared.
tomorrow came by pretty fast and san was sure he only got an hour of sleep. he was going to meet wooyoung at his house around lunch time to he could eat there. he stood in front of the door of wooyoungs house and it looked very pretty on the outside. with all different kind of flowers in the front yard. soon he was welcomed by wooyoung.
“don’t just stand here, come in.” the younger pulled san inside his home, being all excited. it was the first time in forever that wooyoung had someone over and especially san is more than just a friend. san’s heart is racing and he believes his heart stopped when he saw a middle aged woman. she looked really nice so that kinda got him a little relaxed.
“hi you must be wooyoungs boyfriend?” she said getting closer to san with a warming smile. san could recognize the woman. she didn’t change much. but he was still scared.
“mom he’s not my boyfriend.” wooyoung whispered in embarrassment.
“what you told me you like him.”
“that doesn’t mean were officially dating already.”
san laughed by the mother-son interaction he just witnessed. he wished he also has that.
“his laugh is so cute, he even has a dimple.” wooyoungs mother complimented san more and more.
“come on let’s eat I cooked for us.”
they sat at the table eating the delicious food the woman cooked for them. they got to know each other little by little.
“your name is really nice. its short and it totally fits you.” his mother says. “it’s my second time meeting someone called san.”
the dots connected even more and san couldn’t do anything than just smile. that’s what he did for most of the time. just laugh or smile. his social awkwardness never changed.
“what do your parents do?”
san stopped his actions. since he didn’t know many people he had no one ask about his parents.
“mom could you maybe not you know?” wooyoung made it obvious enough for his mother to get it. of course wooyoung knows about his parents and san growing up in an orphanage but he never questioned it more.
“oh my god, i’m so sorry honey i should’ve been more careful with my questions.” his mother immediately apologized but san gave her a reassuring smile.
“it’s okay, you didn’t know. I actually grew up in an orphanage.”
“fuck.” did san really just mention the orphanage in front of his wooyoungs mother, who owned it. san again slapped himself mentally.
wooyoungs mother also grew a little more curious. “oh really in this area?”
was san going to lie now or not?
“uh yea i lived here all my life.”
maybe san should’ve lied in that moment. wooyoungs mother was really quick in connecting the dots. they were both aware of it except wooyoung. the thing now was wooyoungs mother doesn’t know if san also knew. the lunch was soon also ended and san had come up with something so he could leave from here just to think about everything in peace. despite everything wooyoungs mother still kept a smile on.
“are you free tonight? i wanna see you again.” wooyoung said while both of them were standing in the front yard.
“sure.” before san left he had kissed wooyoung on his forehead, giving him a smile with his dimple showing.
“you cannot be with him?” wooyoungs mother immediately said as soon as her son returned back to their house. wooyoung was taken aback for the sudden change from his mother.
“what?” he questioned her but his mother tried to walk away from the situation.
“why are you so against me being in a relationship with him? mom, you know i am gay. what’s the problem?”
“wooyoung the problem is that boy.” the angry woman said to wooyoung.
“san? you said you liked him. why? what’s the matter?” he fought back. why was his mother in such denial? she doesn’t even really know san.
“wooyoung why do you have to make it so hard.”
“mom what do you mean?”
his mother stayed silent for a while. she knew this will happen. you can’t keep a lie forever.
“its either us or him, wooyoung.”
he couldn’t believe what he just heard. just 10 minutes ago everything seemed so peaceful and wooyoung had finally some hope in his mother at least. he stood there looking at his mother who had no expression in her face.
“mom?” he felt his tears build up in his eyes. with that his mother left the room, leaving her son all alone in the living room completely clueless.
