Since the day Aiden was discharged, he had been busy 24/7. He really liked the song Vincent gave him, but it was just music with no lyrics and he didn’t want to be the one to write for it. So he talked to Chad if he could take Vincent a few times to his studio to maybe help him write the lyrics for the song he made himself.

Chad was hesitant at first but had agreed, later on, wishing this would help the other get better somehow. So, today he picked up Vin from the hospital, and now they were there at his studio.

“I told you I can’t. Nothing comes to my mind.” Vin said for the nth time.

“And I told you, it’s not possible. You just need a little push.”

Vincent rolled his eyes and whined like a baby.

“Come on, Vin. You don’t have to start now. Today you’re just gonna be around while I work. I’m recording a track today so you can even tell me your opinion and comments, okay? You don’t have to write anything today.”

“Your album is due in 16 days and you still haven’t recorded all the tracks?! What the fuck?!”

“I haven’t had the time between the hospital sessions and the concerts and award shows and fan meetings. I’m recording the whole album this week. Don’t look at me like that!” He threw one of the stuffed toys at Vin. The boy caught it and showed him his tongue in return.

Aiden went into the recording room and the process began. Aiden didn’t tell Vincent that he wanted to add his song to his soon-to-be-released album cos he didn’t want to put any kind of pressure on him, but he hoped the other would finally be able to write something, just for the sake of having written it. He wanted Vincent to be back on his feet, even if it meant he wouldn’t be standing entirely strong.

For a whole week, he picked Vin up daily and took him back after 5-6 hours. It was Friday when he had a session with Chad, and then he was going to leave with Vin as usual.

“How are you doing, Aiden?” Chad asked.

“Busy. I don’t even have time to think about anything, so we’re good for now.”

Chad smiled and nodded.

“I think it’s time for us to start cutting you off of medication. You don’t seem to need it anymore that much.” The doctor wrote him a new routine for the medicine, decreasing the doses he had to take.

“How is Vincent doing? Have you noticed any change?” Chad asked, sounding really curious.

Aiden thought about Vin’s behavior. “Not much, but while recording, he did give some very good opinions. You know, the ones only professionals can give. I was really fascinated.”

Chad seemed surprised. “Really? Interesting.”

“Aiden, can you-” He fixed his glasses. “Can you take him to your house for a few days? I want to see if he shows any change if he’s surrounded in a musical environment again.”

“I mean, sure, I can, but I move from one place to another the whole day. Wouldn’t it be tiring for him? I’m afraid whether it will make him worse.”

“It’s a risk I’m willing to take. He’s been here for a long time. I think he needs a push and I think maybe you are the help I needed all along.”

“Woah doc! You’re talking as if I’m some kind of hero.”

“If you end up helping Vincent, you are.” He smiled and paged Lucas.

“Lucas, could you help Vincent pack his stuff for a week? I’m gonna send him to Aiden’s house.”

“Okay… but why?!”

“We’re testing if it’ll change anything.”

Lucas nodded and went out.

“I need to ask for one more favor. Actually, I think it’s better if Edwin’s there at night when you’re home to keep a close eye on Vincent.”

“I’m cool with it. You can send ten more people there and I would still be ok with it.” Aiden smiled.

“Thank you, Aiden. Really.” Aiden nodded and gestured a ‘nah’ with his hands.

DeleteCreated with Sketch.

So here Edwin was. He was going to spend the night at Aiden’s house for a week with Vincent.

He parked his car in the parking area of the huge, luxurious building. He could live in the spacious golden shining elevator of this building and it would still be fancier than his whole apartment. He wasn’t poor, but this building was just too expensive.

He reached the 21st floor and the elevator doors opened. 2 doors on each side of the hallway. He went to the left one as he was told and rang the bell. He heard a loud ‘door is open’ from the other side, so he went in and was met with a very well-designed house.

Everything was in a white and gray shade. To his left was the sizable living room, and it had a view of the entire city through the floor-to-ceiling glass wall. Edwin had always loved the night view from the top floor. The space wasn’t stuffed with too many items, just the things that were needed, but still, everything was screaming ‘I’M EXPENSIVE!’

The giant TV was on the white wall, gray shelves on each side of it. In front of the TV was the long and wide gray couch, and above it was ‘The kiss’. He had also always loved this painting and had one in his own apartment as well. It was the most expensive thing he had ever bought.

Next to the couch stood a huge mirror, and then there was a rather short hallway right next to that, leading to three stairs and then a door on each side. The dark gray-themed kitchen was all there was to his right. It didn’t have an island, just a counter with three stools behind it outside of the kitchen area.

Aiden came out of the left room up the stairs and greeted him with a bright smile on his face, only wearing sweatpants. His hair was wet, meaning he had just come out of the shower. “What are you doing standing there like that! Come in!”

Edwin was ripped out of his thoughts and blinked a few times at Aiden.

“Cats or dogs?” He suddenly asked.

“Huh?!” Aiden resembled a human question mark.

“Cats? Or dogs?”

“Uh… both?! Why?!”

“Then I’ll be born as a dog in my next life. Please adopt me so I can live here!”

Aiden burst out laughing to the point of actually having tears in his eyes. “You’re so silly, oh my god!” And then he laughed some more. “Come on, Vincent is in the studio.”

“You have a studio in your apartment?” Edwin was utterly shocked.

“It’s not what you think. It’s just a mic and a computer and a keyboard, but I still like to call it a studio.” He guided the younger boy up the stairs and to the right door.

Edwin noticed there were picture frames on the upper part of the hallway walls on both sides, but there were gaps in between them. Like some of them had been taken out, and the spots were now empty.

Going inside, he was met with a grand piano in front of him. His eyes widened, pointing at the piano. “That’s-”

“Same color as Lili’s hair, right? I thought of my piano the first time I saw her.” Aiden giggled and turned right.

This room wasn’t that big and was actually stuffed with all kinds of things. From a bookshelf with so many books to a foldable chair you could also sleep on. And then there was the desk with the big monitor, a mic and the keyboard. Another shelf was filled with so many papers and documents and albums. And there was also a gramophone with so many discs beside it. A good deal of music sheets all over the piano and so many stuffed toys and letters and banners in one corner. The room was a mess but so amusing to look at.

He finally stopped looking around and turned to Vincent, who was staring at a piece of paper. He wanted to say something, but Aiden put his index finger on his own lips and gestured for him to come out. Going down the stairs and into the kitchen, he asked, “Why didn’t you let me say hi at least?”

“I think he’s writing something. I didn’t wanna interrupt him. He didn’t even notice you in there.”

Edwin’s mouth opened in shock at knowing Vincent was finally beginning to actually write lyrics.

“So? did you find this place easy?” Aiden asked, placing a glass of wine in front of him, and sitting on the chair next to him behind the counter.

“Yeah… One can find this building from ten miles away. But honestly, I thought it would be bigger somehow.”

“Hm? The apartment? There are bigger ones in the building, but it’s enough for me. I don’t like huge spaces. I have no idea how other celebrities live in those big ass mansions.” He took a sip of his wine. “Wanna take a shower? You look exhausted.”

“Yeah, that would be nice. I can literally fall asleep right here.”

Aiden smiled and took the glass from Edwin’s hand, placing it on the counter. “Follow me.”

“I was drinking that, you know.”

“I know. Now follow me.”

Edwin gave up. He followed the other to the left door and entered the room. Now, this one was an entirely different story. First of all, it was neat and very, very big, unlike the other one and the colors were nothing like the living room. Everything was so luxurious that Edwin’s jaw was just hanging open looking around.

All of it, from the floor to the walls, were wooden themed. The room was kind of empty except for the round king-sized bed at the far end of it, the two nightstands on each side, the stylish round chair that stood next to the wall not far from the bed, and the enormous steel lamp that was shining right above it. There were 2 thick white columns behind the bed and then behind them, it was entirely glass. But he couldn’t see through them because of the purple curtains. Across from the bed, there was a small door leading to a vast walk-in closet.

“You can drop your bag anywhere and the shower is that way. There are extra towels and toothbrush inside.” Aiden pointed at the glass door.

Edwin nodded and put his bag down, walking toward the bathroom. He wasn’t even surprised anymore when he was met with the most beautiful bathroom he had ever seen. This one, stone themed.

He took off his clothes and put them next to the sink, entering the shower. It took him around 5 minutes to figure out how to turn on the water and he was supposed to be smart! He took a quick shower, taking a big towel out and putting it around his waist. It covered till a little under his knees, and then he put a smaller one over his head. Heading out, he was met with a pair of fluffy white slippers on the ground. Aiden must have left them there for him. Smiling at the action, he put them on and went to the living room. The older was on the phone while putting plates on the counter. When he spotted Edwin, he just paused what he was doing and looked at him from head to toe quickly, stealing his gaze away right after. It made him look down at himself to check if anything was wrong and when he noticed that out of habit he had only wrapped a towel around his waist after showering instead of using one of the bathrobes, his face burned and he walked back to the bedroom with fast steps, changing into proper clothes.

When he came back, it seemed like Aiden was having a disagreement with the person on the other line cos slight anger was shown on his face. He put the glass of wine he had taken from Edwin earlier on the counter, gesturing for him to take it. He sat on a stool, sipping on the wine and observing Aiden as he continued to prepare their meal while on the phone. With each slight movement, his bicep muscles would flex and the shadows that were dancing over those arms were too fascinating for him to even want to look away. He didn’t realize how he was sitting there, frozen, with the glass to his lips (but not drinking), only staring at the singer who was immersed in whatever argument he was having with whoever it was on the other end of the line. He was saved by Vincent jumping on him before he could be caught drooling over the man.

Hugging him from behind and standing there, Vincent put his head on his shoulder. “When did you arrive?”

Edwin ruffled his hair. “A little while back. Were you writing something?” He pointed at the piece of paper in the other’s hand.

Vincent nodded happily. “I think he’ll like it. I’m satisfied with it.”

“Can I see?”

“No, he has to see first!”

They stayed like that for a short while till Aiden hung up with a calm ‘I don’t give a fuck about their opinion. I’m doing it my way.’ and turned around.

Looking at them the way they were, Edwin with a towel on his head and blue hair covering his eyes, the shirt that was sticking to his skin because he hadn’t dried himself properly, and a koala Vincent made him chuckle. All the tension from the phone call washed away just like that. He snapped a quick picture of them without announcing. It was going to be his happy pill from now on.

“I wrote something. Tell me what you think.” Vincent handed the paper to him.

Aiden’s eyes widened upon reading the lyrics. When he was done, he looked up at Vincent with sad eyes. He swallowed a couple of times and smiled crookedly. “It’s…” He hesitated and looked at the younger boy again. “It’s really good, Vin! You’ve done a great job.” Aiden put the piece of paper on the counter, circled around it to the other side, and hugged Vincent tightly. He wanted to kill the young boy’s parents for doing this to their own son.

The lyrics he wrote carried all the pain he had in his heart. He tried very hard in order not to cry. Vincent hesitated but hugged back after a short while. Aiden didn’t want to let him go, ever, but the bell rang, showing the pizza was there, so he had no choice but to let go.

“All of this food for only 3 people?!” Edwin’s expression was so displeased, it made him laugh.

“I didn’t know what you like, so I ordered a few. We can always put whatever’s left in the fridge for later.” He poked the doctor’s cheek playfully before sitting on the stool next to him. The said cheek was so soft and his finger went in so deep at the poke, it gave Aiden the urge to full-on squish that pretty face with both palms, but he, of course, didn’t act on it.

Once they were done eating and Vincent was chatting with Aiden, Edwin took the paper to read the lyrics that had touched the singer so much.

‘For the longest while

I wrote letters to you

Word after word, tear after tear

I watched the moon become full

Where are you?

Why did you leave me?

Didn’t you know you were all I had?

Didn’t you say we were all we had?

On my bed, I watch the sun rise and set from the window

Curled up into myself, winter to spring, summer to fall, I drown in sorrow

Where are you?

How many more days should I wait until I hear from you?

I’ve stopped wearing black, but these blue bruises on my soul still remain

Where are you?

I called and called until they took my phone away ’cause I’ve gone insane’
