Kaigaku was walking down the road, looking for a place to hide before the sun came out. Dawn would arise in about an hour and if he didn’t hurry, he would die. Which would be dumb considering he’d just recently turned into a demon to live forever. Not to die the very next morning.
But for some reason, the road was just along an empty vast field with not a place to hide. Kaigaku was getting desperate now, running at forward full speed. He’d been training here because Kokushibo had ordered him to. It was survival training, he supposed.
He sprinted across the road, squinting at the road, trying to find something to hide in, somewhere…
No. It was too late. The sun. The sun was about to come out. He was doomed. Please let Kokushibo be hiding here. Please. Underground. He had to get underground.
Dropping to his knees, Kaigaku started scraping at the hard dirt. Trying to dig a whole to hide in. But it was no use. He was going to die. He was going to-
Hands gripped around his waist and pulled him down. Thinking he was going to crash onto the ground, he braced himself for the impact, waiting to feel the pain on his back. But when it didn’t come, he blinked and opened his eyes.
He was in what seemed to be a small dirt cave. He turned slowly, looking for the person that had pulled him under. To his shock, he saw Upper rank 6 staring at him with his light green eyes. Kaigaku would’ve stared right back at Gyutaro if he didn’t disrupt his train of thought.
“Aren’t you supposed to be training to be a lower moon? Or an uppermoon, I forgot now,” Gyutaro asked.
“Uh…yeah.”
“Why’re you out in the sun, then?” the green haired demon asked.
“I…I couldn’t find a way out. The road just seemed to stretch on,” Kaigaku admitted.
“…You’re not going to be able to go into the 12 Kizuki if this goes on, y’know,” Gyutaro pointed out. Kaigaku looked down sheepishly. “Sorry…”
“No, don’t apologize. Just train more. I can help you,” Gyutaro offered, stepping closer to Kaigaku.
The younger demon felt himself blush as the uppermoon stepped closer. “Do you want me to help?” Gyutaro whispered, seeming to stare straight into Kaigaku’s soul.
“I- I-” Kaigaku stuttered. He couldn’t think straight, talk coherently. What was wrong with him? This wasn’t like him. Snap out of it, Kaigaku! Don’t be a wimp like Zenitsu.
“Sure!” Kaigaku said, gathering himself up.
Gyutaro beamed and Kaigaku felt giddy inside. He’d made uppermoon 6 smile! Smile! He’d never seen Gyutaro smile before and it was the most rewarding thing anybody could ever give him.
“Alright! I can teach you how to find a place to hide any where, oh and the poisons and…” Gyutaro rambled on listing off all the things he would teach Kaigaku.
Kaigaku found himself staring at Gyutaro, eyes tracking every little bit of the older male’s body. He stared deep into Gyutaro’s eyes, watching as they seemed to sparkle, even with barely any light. Which was why it took him a minute to realize that Gyutaro was staring at him. Kaigaku’s face turned red as he realized why. “Uh- I’m sorry! Uhm..” Kaigaku said, apologetically.
“Like what you’re seeing there?” Gyutaro asked mischievously.
Kaigaku turned redder—somehow—and shook his head wildly. “Uh- no. I mean, yeah, I mean no. Well, what I meant is-” he stuttered, searching the mess of his head for an answer.
Gyutaro laughed, a wonderful, beautiful laugh. “I know, I was just teasing,” he said, smiling.
Kaigaku rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. “Uhm…”
“Anyways, so… Did you even hear anything I said?” Gyutaro asked.
Kaigaku was silent and looked down, avoiding Gyutaro’s questioning look. “…no.”
Gyutaro laughed again, except he sounded kind of nervous. And in his curiosity, Kaigaku looked up to see Gyutaro glancing around. All of Gyutaro’s confidence seemed to have been stripped away at that moment. “Are…are you okay, Gyutaro?” Kaigaku asked.
Gyutaro looked up, surprised by Kaigaku’s question. He didn’t think he would care. Or maybe he just cared because he was an uppermoon? “Uh, yeah, I’m fine!” Gyutaro said, faking a smile.
Kaigaku shook his head. “Nah, I’m the master at knowing if you’re faking your emotions. What happened?”
Gyutaro sighed. “Nothing.”
“Mhm. So, start at the beginning.”
“It’s a long story,” Gyutaro lied.
“We’ve got time.”
“…fine.”
Kaigaku smiled and Gyutaro felt his cheeks get warm. Was the sun peeking in? He glanced quickly up at the top of his makeshift cave but found that it was fully covered. No sun. Interesting.
“So…you going to talk or do I have to wait all day?” Kaigaku deadpanned.
“Oh! Uhm. Where do I start?” Gyutaro muttered, more to himself then raven haired male.
Kaigaku answered anyways. “At the beginning. Or at how you’re feeling right now.”
“Uhm. Okay.”
Gyutaro took a deep breath in before he blurted out the whole story. “I think I like you, Kaigaku, at least that’s what Daki said what I’m feeling is. When you smile I feel like the whole world lights up, and when you laugh I feel all warm inside. I don’t know what it is, and if what Daki says is true, but I’m going to assume it is. I want to know if you like me but I’m afraid it will just be because I’m uppermoon six, not because of me. And I want to ask you but what if you’re lying and just pretending? What if you’re just going to use me to become upper rank six and-“
“Shut up.”
Gyutaro flinched back at the harshness in Kaigaku’s voice. “I… what?”
“Shut up. How could you think I’m like that!? I’m not. I like you too, you idiot. I just didn’t say anything cause I thought you wouldn’t like me since I’m just a random demon that’s not even close to lower rank six’s powers! I would never use you. I could never. When I’m with you, my life is completed. I don’t care how cringey or cliché this sounds, but I want to be with you forever. I want to stay with you and love you and live with you. Please…don’t think that.”
The small cave was quiet, filled only by the sound of Kaigaku and Gyutaro’s soft breathing. Then, Gyutaro said, “But…aren’t I ugly? Like, I look weird, and the way my body is-“
“No. Shut the fuck up. What’re you talking about, your body is beautiful, y’know. You can’t think like that. Stop it,” Kaigaku demanded.
The shorter male pulled Gyutaro into a hug, and Gyutaro stood still, shocked, heart beating quickly. After a moment, Gyutaro remembered to hug back and wrapped his arms around Kaigaku. The two stayed in the warm embrace, feeling each others body heat radiating off of one another.
Kaigaku was first to pull apart. He chuckled lightly at the disappointment written all over Gyutaro’s face. Then, feeling a sudden burst of confidence, he brought his face up close to Gyutaro’s, watching as blush spread across the taller male’s face, and whispered softly, “May I?”
Gyutaro nodded ever so slightly and leaned forward, closing the space in between their lips, pulling Kaigaku into a soft but passionate kiss.
The two pulled apart after around half a minute, panting lightly and staring at each other. Blush powdered on both of their faces, Kaigaku leaned against Gyutaro’s chest, and the uppermoon wrapped his arms lightly around the younger demon. “I love you, Kai…” Gyutaro mumbled into the ravenette’s hair.
“Love you too…”
