Theme: Fluff + Angst

Comfort ship<33

“Who are you?” Daki—or Warabihime, as she pretended to be—asked as a woman stepped into her dressing room.

“Hello,” the woman said. She had long black hair and a beautiful kimono. Her hair was tied up like Warabihime’s and she looked to be an Oiran. “You know me as the woman who uses the biwa in the Infinity Fortress?” she said, her voice soft.

(…………………………………i think I had this story idea like in February and I started the draft then completely forgot about it.. THE WAY I WROTE WAS SO DIFFERENT CAN YOU TELL-)

“Oh!” Daki said, smiling very slightly. Yes, she knew who this was. It was the pretty demon who never spoke but was always there. “Yes, I know you. Your name is..?” she prompted.

“Nakime. I assume you are.. Daki,” Nakime said, her voice tilting up in question towards the end.

“Mhm,” Daki said, folding her hands together. “What are you doing here? I wasn’t aware you worked in the Entertainment District.”

“I don’t.” She didn’t elaborate.

“Oh. Okay, then,” Daki said. “Well, you’re welcome to stay here, I suppose. I’ll have a room done for you.”

“Thank you,” Nakime said.

Daki smiled.

(ahem me continuing to write it again after over a few more months of ignoring..)

~~~
Nakime sat down, looking her reflection in a mirror. She puller the pins in her hair out, letting her hair cascade down her back like a waterfall. She brushed it slowly with her fingers, untangling the occasional knot. She looked back at the mirror, examining her disguise. She had two eyes now, with iridescent pink irises that made her look alive. Her skin was less pale now, as well, for she felt that someone might think her sick if otherwise.
The demoness was adjusting her kimono, getting used to the feel of using both eyes, when a knock came to the door. She turned and called out, “Who is it?”
The voice of a little girl, perhaps 10, replied, “I’ve been told to give you these clothes. Warabihime Oiran sent me. Do you want… Would you like them set on the ground in front of your door or inside your room?”
“In front of my door,” Nakime said, getting up.
She heard the girl put the clothes down and scurry off. When she was sure there wasn’t anyone around, she opened the door and took the clothes. She closed the door, making her way to the closet in the room. Carefully, Nakime unfolded the kimono’s Daki had sent her and hung them up. She would wear them later.
She turned back to the mirror and sat down again, parting her hair. She pushed the pins in, keeping her hair in place. Once she finished, she tucked in stray strands and decided that was enough.
Another knock on the door interrupted her as she went to do her makeup. She sighed and put down the utilities. “Who is it now?” she asked, her voice ticked with irritation.
“Daki,” the demon whispered. “Can I come in?”
“Yes.”
Daki opened the door and stepped inside, closing it right after. “Hi, Nakime-“
“Hello,” the demoness said, nodding her head to her. “What are you doing here?”
“I’ve gotten bored of the humans,” Daki said, sighing. “But what are you doing here? Not enough food in the infinity castle or what-“
“No.. Just.. wanted to see someone,” Nakime said dismissively.
“Really? Who?”
“That’s personal,” Nakime said, picking up her make up again.
“Awhh, c’mon! Tell me!!” Daki insisted, whining.
“I just needed company,” she said, lifting a shoulder in a shrug. “Now that is all for this subject.”
Daki rolled her eyes but agreed. She sat next to the biwa demon and said, “Want me to help with your makeup? I’ve done this a lot, I know how it should be.”
“That would be appreciated, yes,” Nakime decided, nodding.
Daki picked up the make up brushes and started helping her. Through the whole time, she spoke like an excited child, chattering about random things she’d seen or done or heard in the Red Light District. Nakime kept quiet most of the time, commenting every now and then. Her eyes (technically, eye, but since she was pretending to be human, eyes) were closed through nearly the whole time, but she opened them once in the middle of this and smiled at the sight of Daki’s expression—her eyes bright and a smile plastered on her face as she spoke.
When she finished, she moved away and showed Nakime the finished product.
“Is this good?” she fretted. “It’s how I do my make up and I just adjusted it a little to match you.”
“Thank you, I like it,” Nakime said, smiling to the younger demon.
Daki smiled. “I’m glad. You look really pretty!”
The two talked a little before Daki had to leave to attend something she didn’t necessarily want to do but was required for her as an Oiran.
~~~

The two demons found themselves talking a lot more and Nakime felt herself drawn to Daki. She didn’t know why but she was. Which had been the reason she’d come to the Entertainment District in the first place.

She’d always been there when new Uppermoons were brought into the ranks, she’d been there in the meetings, she’d seen how they were. She had her opinions on all of them, of course—such as that she thought Akaza was respectful and Douma was immature—but she’d seen Daki there many times and, aside from being concerned about the clothing, she’d found that she rather liked the girl.

She’d said nothing, unsure if she should even be thinking things like this, but eventually she just caved and decided to try becoming friends with Daki—which luckily proved to be successful.

~~~
Gyutaro did not like Nakime, in all honesty, because he was getting a little irritated that Daki was constantly spending time with the biwa woman. He wanted his sister to be happy, though, and mostly said nothing about it.
He’d also noticed something different about this demon, though. When she spoke to or about Daki, her voice held the tone of deep admiration—or maybe he’d go as far to say it was love.
He spoke nothing about this to his sister, though, deciding she must find it out herself. Besides, it was bound she’d find a love one day. At least it was this woman—if not an uppermoon she was at least always present for the meeting.
Yes, he would allow this.. but that didn’t make him like it any better.
~~~

Nakime felt she must tell Daki how she felt. She needed to do it. Today, she would go up to Daki and tell her everything.

How should she do it, though?

‘Daki, I love you.’

No, that was too straightforwards..

‘Daki, I’ve been talking to you a lot recently. And I’ve found myself attracted you. I’m not sure if you feel the same, I’ve been getting.. mixed signals from you. I’m unsure what you feel but I know that I love you.’

(me listening to “Mixed signals” lmao-)

Nakime sighed, shaking her head. No, not that either..

‘I don’t know why, but I love you, Daki. You don’t have to accept this, but I needed you to know that.. I love you. I love you so much. And I can’t stop thinking about this—you!! I just need you in my life..’

Nakime shut her eye and rubbed her temples. Would Daki find this creepy? Hopefully not.

She rested her hands on her head and found herself day dreaming about Daki. She couldn’t help it. The gentle smile, the easy but regal way she held herself, her beautiful voice. She couldn’t… she had to be with Daki again.

But Muzan had ordered her back to the Infinity Fortress. Said he couldn’t have her somewhere else all the time. Of course it was only reasonable for Nakime to go back but she’d been disappointed. But she figured that she should at least be grateful that Muzan had allowed to her to go back every now and then.

She would go later that night, maybe, since the last time she’d been there was a couple days ago. And then she would confess to Daki how she felt. She had to do it soon otherwise it would rip her apart to pieces until she couldn’t stand it.

She would do it.

~~~
Nakime’s heart dropped. Daki was dead. Daki and Gyutaro had died. No, no, she wouldn’t believe it, couldn’t.
But it was true.
She’d summoned the Uppermoons at Muzan’s commands.
Daki. She hadn’t been able to reach her.
And that could only mean she’d died.
Nakime closed her eye, not listening to what Muzan was saying to the Uppermoons. She didn’t want to know. She couldn’t take it.
When they all left, after Muzan ordered Nakime to take the Uppermoons to their places, Nakime stood. She closed her eyes and took herself to the Entertainment District.
She looked around. She was in Daki’s room. Her heart pounded in her chest and she saw the state the room was. The whole building. She walked down the halls. It was crushed the pieces. She could see from the holes and the windows.. outside. It was a fucking mess.
And she saw Kakushi now.
Demon slayers.
Whoever had dared to kill Daki… Nakime would crush their skull, pull out their organs, rip out their eyes. She’d crush their heart then. They’d broken her heart.
Daki would never know how Nakime felt.
Because she’d been too late. She’d been too late..
