Muzan had finally been permitted out of the hospital and was making his way back home with the help of the Nakime woman whom had claimed to know him.

He’d only let her help because he didn’t remember where his house was.

Of course, he didn’t fully trust Nakime to know where his house was but then she showed him where he always kept a key hidden and when he went inside there were pictures of himself and people he had known, so he eventually decided she at least knew him. And well, apparently.

Back at home—which, by the way, felt very unfamiliar to himself yet familiar enough to know it was home—he spent his time looking around, trying to remember things.

First off, he found an old photo memory book thing which he spent an hour looking through trying to memorize the faces he saw most in it.

As he’d been doing that, there was a knock on the door and he stood to look to see who it was.

Obviously he was a bit cautious since anyone could literally come up and claim they knew him.

But the person at the door turned out to be someone who had showed up in some of the more recent pictures he’d found on his phone—which he totally hadn’t taken nearly 10 tries to get into and he only did unlock it because he found the password written on a post-it somewhere.

The person visiting was named “Kie” as it had said in his contacts, apparently.

She was… his ex?

Muzan decided that she must at least have been dating him anyways so he believed her when she said that.

Along with that, she explained everything she knew about before. Starting with the fact that the two had bumped into Michikatsu (the Michika from earlier…) and Yoriichi Tsugikuni, two brothers.

She said that later it turned out that Muzan might’ve liked Michikatsu at some point so then Kie had broken up with him and then the whole memory-loss incident had happened and Kie had gotten notice of it since the only people that knew of their break up had been Muzan and Kie.

Muzan was quite willing to believe this now since it sort of lined up with what Michikatsu had said… Sort of.

What he didn’t understand was why Michikatsu had come running to him when he was in the hospital if Kie had said that Michikatsu had rejected him.

When he brought it up to the girl, she simply shrugged.

“I’m not sure why, maybe he felt guilty as if it was his fault? The times do add up,” she added a bit guiltily. “I think the time you, uhm, fell,” she said nervously, obviously trying to evade the fact that he’d tried killing himself. “It must of been around after I broke up with you. Which was when he’d said no.”

“Oh…” Muzan let the words sink in, then blinked. “I’m sorta confused right now.”

She laughed. “Me too. Maybe you’ll understand more if we talk to the Tsugikuni’s?” she offered.

“Do you know them?”

“Not personally, but I think my friend, Tanjuro, knows Yoriichi,” she said thoughtfully.

“Alright, can we meet him? I want things to make sense—even if they’re lies,” Muzan decided. “I don’t know what to think of anything, so I’ll take any answer now.”

Kie nodded. “I understand. I’ll go call Tanjuro now, I’ll be back,” she said, tapping her phone and walking out into the hall.

~~~
Kie had luckily managed to convince Tanjuro to ask Yoriichi if Muzan could meet him and Michikatsu. Muzan was going alone this time since Kie had had to go run an errand for her mother.
Unfortunately, this left Muzan the awkward position to have to explain as best he could everything he wanted to know. And he didn’t really have any choice to believe every answer he got.
When he finally arrived at the address given to him, he knocked on the door nervously. In all honesty, he almost didn’t want answers. Besides, he had driven Michikatsu out of the hospital and he didn’t exactly want to remember that.
The door opened and a man who looked similar to Michikatsu—probably his brother—stood there, a hand poised on his hip and his eyebrows raised in judgement.
“You’re… Yoriichi?” Muzan asked quietly, feeling like he should be afraid of this man for some reason.
“And you’re Muzan,” Yoriichi said, not exactly answering his question.
“Can I… come in?” he asked uncertainly.
“Can you?” Yoriichi countered.
Muzan fidgetted, glancing about. He really wished Kie or Nakime had come now. He didn’t like this person all that much.
A voice came from behind Yoriichi. “Yorii, leave him be he literally just went through a traumatic experience and lost all his memories.” Michikatsu.
Muzan let out a breath, hoping that this brother would be kinder to him.
Michikatsu opened the door all the way and gave Muzan a sort of sorrowful look as he let him in.
Kinder or not, this was not going to be easy.
Yoriichi slammed the door shut. “That was weeks ago, he’ll be fine.”
Michikatsu rolled his eyes. “We can go to the kitchen, I’ll get us a snack.”
“I can get it, you two go to the living room,” Yoriichi offered.
“I don’t trust you not to poison his food,” his brother said, leading Muzan through the halls.
“Fuck you,” he grumbled, following them.
Inside the kitchen, Muzan sort of hovered by the side. Michikatsu was arguing with Yoriichi at the moment and he didn’t know if he was allowed to interrupt or something. And he still didn’t like Yoriichi.
Eventually, Michikatsu noticed him looking around nervously and said, “Right… What did you want to talk about again?”
“Uhm,” Muzan paused, almost forgetting. “Oh yeah, I wanted to know about what you know about what happened to me when I’d… nearly died?”
Michikatsu nodded slowly. “That didn’t really make sense but okay. So… you want to remember?” he said, his tone almost hopeful.
Muzan nodded. “Please.”
“Right… There’s… a lot to know,” Michikatsu admitted.
“But Kie said I’d just met you two only recently since then?” Muzan said, confused.
Yoriichi rolled his eyes. “Ever heard of past lives?”
“Past lives?” Muzan raised an eyebrow. “Is that not some fairy tale to make people feel better?”
“No, not in this case.” Yoriichi crossed his arms, glaring at Muzan from across the room. “In our past lives, mine, yours, and my brother’s… we knew each other.”
Muzan waited for him to elaborate but when he got nothing else, he turned to Michikatsu. “So what does that have to do with anything?”
Then, Michikatsu hesitated. “I…”
“Just lie to me, I don’t care,” Muzan said, quite truthfully, really.
Yoriichi let out a sigh much longer than should be humanly possible when his brother only stared at the ground.
“Basically, you two were demons and you lived for, like, a thousand years. And my brother, around almost 500. Also, you two had dated at some point but you were a bitchass horrible boyfriend and so obviously he dumped you and later you went and asked for apologies but then you two died and then now, in our lives now, when we ‘recently met’ was basically like meeting someone you used to know, but in this case we knew each other like a century ago… Then you tried apologizing to Michi again and then you got so depressed when he said no you went off and killed yourself—and personally I wish you died but okay…,” Yoriichi added under his breath.
Michikatsu glared at him and Muzan blinked.
“Am I supposed to believe this demon shit?” he asked.
Yoriichi nodded. “As much as I hate you and would rather just tell you that you were some slutty piece of shit that did porn for a living, it’s true. Also, you did say you’d believe any lie—though this isn’t one,” he commented, leaning against the counter.
Michikatsu slapped the back of Yoriichi’s head with an annoyed looked.
“What??” Yoriichi whined.
“Stop it!”
“Stop what?” he asked innocently.
“Hating him!!”
“Why don’t you hate him?? He literally ruined your life??” Yoriichi grumbled.
“Because…” Michikatsu hesitated there again, glancing at Muzan. “That’s not the point!! Just stop it’s getting annoying!!”
Yoriichi raised an eyebrow. “So you still like him, huh?” he asked.
Michikatsu trailed off and Yoriichi sighed. “Fine, I’ll stop as long as he’s still in our house. Anyways…” He turned back to Muzan. “If you don’t have any more questions, why don’t you leave now?”
Muzan blinked. “Wait but… things are kinda making sense now.”
Yoriichi rolled his eyes. “Great.” He stalked forward until he was in front of Muzan and said, quietly, “Just so you understand, I’m never going to stop hating you for making Michi go through an emotional hell of a rollarcoaster, nor am I going to forgive you for killing millions of people. But if you don’t want to fuck up in this life, I suggest you better make sense of the fact that you love my brother and if you make him cry again I’ll make sure that next time you actually die.”
Muzan cowered under him until Yoriichi turned and left the room, leaving Michikatsu and Muzan there alone.
Michikatsu sighed. “I’m sorry, ignore what he said… He really hates you if you didn’t get that,” he said, not having heard any of what his brother had said.
Muzan nodded slowly, biting his lip nervously. “Right… Uhm… We were demons then?”
Michikatsu nodded. “Yes. You knew me then as Kokushibo.”
“Kokushibo, hm?” Muzan said, testing the name out on his lips. He bit his lower lip again, a bit too hard than he’d meant to, and flinched.
“You alright?” Michikatsu asked.
“Yeah, I just…” His voice trailed off as he tasted his blood and he lifted his finger to his mouth, staring at the small bit of blood left.
Michikatsu walked over to him, concerned. “Is your lip bleeding or something? And do I want to know why you’re looking at the blood as if it’s holding all the answers to life…?”
Muzan looked up suddenly. “Kokushibo!” he exclaimed, shock mixing in his voice.
“Yeah..?” Michikatsu asked, looking perplexed as ever.
“No… Kokushibo. I…” Muzan let his tongue run over his bleeding lip, remembering the irony taste of blood, knowing it had more of an importance. “We were demons? We… ate people, right?”
Michikatsu nodded, uncertainty slipping into his features. “How do you know that? We never told you.”
Muzan looked up then. “I might remember something. I don’t know for sure if I’m just being delusional, but when I tasted the blood it felt familiar for some reason and I thought maybe that it was because I probably tasted a lot of blood when I fell, but, uhm… I had a random memory—or image—of me eating a person. Which was very gross, by the way. Also, I sort of remember something about you as… Kokushibo. Or more, how I felt about you,” he said slowly, trying to make sense of his thoughts.
“Felt about me?” Michikatsu said hopefully.
Muzan nodded. “I liked you,” he said quietly. “I think that’s what it was. I had the urge to be with someone and wanted to be with you?”
Michikatsu—Kokushibo—looked at him with so much hope and longing that Muzan almost wanted to just run into his arms and tell him it was okay and that he loved him. He didn’t even know why.
“I feel like I always loved you or something since I still feel like… like that,” Muzan added.
“I… also want that,” Kokushibo admitted, his voice sounding almost watery.
“Now?”
“Yes.”
Their eyes met and Muzan gave him a hesitant smile. “Want to try?”
