“Aye, Nico.”
  “What? I’m eating.”
“Are you excited for the New Years celebrations today?”
  “No.”
  “Why not?”
“We literally just had Christmas. That was enough celebration for me for 5 more years.”
“Come on. It’s going to be a new year! And we’ll be starting it together!”
  “That’s stupid.”
  “No, it’s not. It’s romantic!”
  “No, it’s stupid.”
“Come on, what if during the countdown, we kiss, and by the time we’re done kissing, it’ll be a new year! So we’ll start off the year kissing each other!”
  “That’s even more stupid.”
  “Please?”
  “No.”
  “Please, please, please?”
  “No. Stop asking.”
  “Come on! Stop being stubborn!”
“What are you going to do about it?”
“Nico, come on. I’ve never dated someone before, I want to spend New Years with you.”
“I already spent Christmas with you.”
“So? This is a whole different holiday! Please.” Will gave Nico puppy dog eyes.
“Damn you and your puppy dog eyes…..”
  “So?”
“I hate you. Fine, I’ll do it.”
“Thank you! So why do you not want to celebrate it so much?”
Nico shrugged. “I guess I just don’t see the point in celebrating the start of a new year when it’s just going to bring more sadness and pain.”
Will massaged his forehead. “Nico, come on. Don’t say things like that.”
  “Why? It’s the truth.”
“No, it’s not the truth! Don’t you think the fates have made you suffer enough?”
  “Of course.”
“Then you should be off the hook, for like, the rest of your life.”
“I don’t think it works like that, Will.”
Will sighed. “Anyways, on a happier note, do you know what else it is today?”
  “What?”
  “Our 2 month anniversary!”
“Don’t people usually celebrate like, 6 months, and then a year, and then each year after that until they get married and celebrate their marriage date every year instead?”
“Well, yes, but I thought it was a cool day to have an anniversary! New Years Eve!”
“Didn’t we technically get together on November 1st? Because that’s when we agreed we would start dating?”
“Well, yes, but we kissed on Halloween and talked about your tragic backstory.”
  “Whatever.”
“Anyways, it’s already the evening, so we should just do stuff until around 11:30 when the countdown starts and we all go outside.”
“What are we going to do while we wait?” Nico asked.
Will grinned. “I’m glad you asked.”
Soon the two boys were sitting in Will’s cabin while Will set up a small tv.
“I thought technology wasn’t working? And even if it was, wouldn’t it attract monsters?”
Will plugged in a cord. “Well, with our technology issues, tvs aren’t included. And tvs don’t attract monsters.”
“Okay…is it weird to say that I’ve only ever watched a tv at the movie theaters before I was sent to the Lotus Casino?”
  “Eh, I expected as much.”
“Well, what are we going to be watching?”
“Oh, we’re going to watch Star Wars!”
  “I guess I’ll watch one of them….”
“So what was your favorite movie as a kid?” Will asked.
  Nico blushed. “It doesn’t matter.”
  “Oh, come on. Tell me!”
“Fine. Don’t laugh. You know I used to be a lot different. My favorite movie was the Wizard of Oz.”
“Really? Before I got into Star Wars, that was one of my favorite movies.”
  “It’s still popular?”
Will smiled. “Some things never change.”
The screen of the tv screen flickered on, and Will pressed play.
After the movie was over, Will asked Nico how he liked it.
“So this Anakin guy might be able to bring balance to the…what was it called…the force?”
“Yup. But how did you like it?”
  “Eh.”
“Oh, come on! You’ll still watch the next ones with me, right?”
  “Maybe.”
Will sighed. “Okay, I wanted to help you out here. I bet you only know the songs that came out when you were a kid, so I wanted to introduce you to some songs I think you may like.”
  “Okay?”
He turned the channel of the tv so that it opened up to something called “YouTube.” Then he typed in something called “Nirvana.”
“What is a “Nirvana?”” Nico asked.
“You’ll see.” Will clicked a button and it turned the screen to a video of a stage with a guy in the center with messy blonde hair.
“Woah! How did you do that?!” Nico asked.
Will laughed. “Just watch the video.”
The guy was singing a song something about smelling teen spirit.
When the video ended, Nico’s eyes were wide.
“Did you like it?” Will asked.
Nico nodded his head, and Will turned on countless other songs by different bands. He figured out the first song was called “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” It was by a band called “Nirvana.” He also listened to other songs from bands called “The Black-Eyed Peas”, “SoundGarden”, “Red Hot Chili Peppers”, “The Ramones”, “Led Zeppelin,” “ACDC”, and more.
“Alright Nico, it’s time for the countdown. It’s 11:30.”
  “Woah, what? No way!”
“Yep. You’ve hung out in here since 5:30.” Will laughed.
“Why haven’t Kayla or Austin come in?” Nico asked.
“I told them not to bother us. That we’re on a date.”
  “That was a date?”
“Yep. And I enjoyed it. Let’s go!”
Once they were outside, they stood around with all of the other campers. There was a huge screen that was also help from the Hecate cabin that was showing an exact countdown. People were standing around talking and eating food and listening to music.
Kayla and Austin walked over to the 2 boys.
“How was your date?” Kayla asked the 2.
“It was great!” Will said. Nico ignored her.
“What did you guys do?” Asked Austin.
“We watched a Star Wars movie, and I introduced Nico into some grunge, rock, and metal music that I thought he would like. I was right.”
They chatted until there was an alert on the screen. Nico looked up and realized there was only 60 seconds before midnight.
“How in Hades has it been 30 minutes?” Nico asked.
“It’s your ADHD, Nico.” Will replied.
  “Probably.”
They looked back at the screen and it was now down to 20 seconds.
“Can I kiss you?” Will questioned.
  “Wha-oh. Really, Will?”
“Please? I want to start the year kissing you.”
  Nico sighed. “Fine.”
And just as the clock was seconds away, Will connected his lips with Nico’s, until the clock struck 12.
As the start of the new year began, Nico hoped that it was going to be a good one. How could it be bad when he started it with Will?
