Daou POV
“But I already have a grandma,” Chance said from the back seat. He had just grabbed him from Poon, who had told him Offroad had gone to look at some more condos. Daou was sad but also relieved he didn’t know how to face Offroad. That night he had never felt his alpha act like that. The moment Offroad mentioned taking Chance out of his condo it was like something flipped inside of him. His alpha wanted to throw Offroad out of the apartment and lock their son up. He was scared of himself let alone how he made Offroad feel and that made him feel like shit. Holding Offroad in his arms sobbing broke his heart in ways he didn’t know it could break. He knew Offroad had little to no dating experience whatsoever and living with an alpha was very different than living with a beta. He knew that he and Poon had a strictly platonic relationship but his alpha couldn’t understand that when he smelt the beta all over him and Daou wanted to tie him to bed and fuck him until the scent was gone and replaced with his inside and out.
“Yes, but my mom is also considered your grandma as well, maybe you can call her something other than grandma like how you call me and daddy something different,” Daou explained to his son, glancing into the rearview mirror.
“I guess,” Chance sighed looking out the window.
“There will be a puppy you can play with,” Daou informed his son who immediately perked up. He knew this was all strange to him; he didn’t want to stress him out anymore than he already was.
“A little puppy or a big puppy?” Chance asked, now engaged in the conversation.
“A medium size puppy,” Daou laughed. His mom had a corgi puppy that was fully grown.
“Does it bite?” Chance asked, making a concerned face.
“No, she doesn’t,” Daou informed him as he pulled into his parent’s driveway. “You ready?” Daou asked, turning the car off and turning to him in the back seat.
“Is Daddy coming later?” Chance asked in a small voice. His hands gripping his Dino plushie tightly.
“I don’t know, but I don’t think so,” Daou said, his heart breaking for his son. Part of him wanted to start the car back up and just take him back to his condo.
“Can we go pick him up after?” Chance asked.
“I’ll text him and ask him.”
“Okay,” Chance said undoing his seatbelt. Daou undid his getting out of the car and walked around to his side to lift him out of the car. Hand in hand they walked up to the front door, walking into the house Daou grew up in.
“Mom!” Daou shouted, closing the door behind him. He heard the nails of the dog against the tiles as the little corgi came flying around the corner. Daou heard Chance whimper in fear as he clutched his pants leg. “Stop!” Daou commanded the dog who skidded to a stop right in front of them. “Sit,” Daou kneeled down to his son. “She was just a bit excited, no need to be afraid,” Daou assured his son as he himself reached out to pet the dog. His son tentatively reached out and petted the dog as well, smiling as the pup excitedly licked all over his hand.
“Hi, boys!” Daous’ mother came walking in smiling at them. “Oh, just the two of you?” His mother asked, looking around for Offroad.
“Yeah, Offroad couldn’t make it,” Daou said nervously, having completely forgotten to inform his mother he wasn’t coming.
“Oh no worries,” his mother came closer, kneeling down next to her dog. “This is Daisy and I’m Aggie, it’s very nice to meet you.” His mother smiled at his son gently.
“Hi,” Chance said whispering, still paying attention to the dog.
“I heard someone was a fan of dinosaurs, is that true?” His mother asked Chance who shook his head tentatively.
“Perfect! I just so happen to have some dinosaur toys. Would you like to go see if you will like them?” She asked, holding out her hand. Chance looked at Daou who nodded before his son reached out and took his mother’s hand listening to her talk about the toys as they disappeared into the living room. Daou took a deep breath one hurdle down a million to go.
…..
“It’s such a shame Offroad couldn’t make it,” his mother said as they were sitting down at the table eating. Chance was on his lap sitting and eating as they realized too late the massive table his parents owned was a bit too massive for Chance to eat without a booster seat in the chair.
“He was busy,” Daou said, taking a bite of his food.
“Daddy is sad,” Chance said in between his bites. Daou paused in chewing his own food as his mother also paused.
“Oh, and why is your daddy sad?” His mother asked giving Daou a look.
“I think because Papa didn’t kiss him goodbye.” Chance said, causing Daou to choke on the food he was swallowing.
“Oh, and this made your daddy sad?”
“Yeah Daddy cried when he didn’t get kisses or maybe he is sad ’cause Uncle Poon needs to shower, daddy said papa said he stinks.” Chance said finishing the noodles on his plate.
“Oh is that so,” his mother said sitting down her fork. “Are you full?” She asked Chance who nodded yes. “Great, why don’t you go play with your new toys while me and your papa finish up eating okay.” His mother said, grabbing Chance from his lap and sitting him down, who took off Daisy hot on his heels to go play with his Dino toys. “What did you do?!” His mother hissed at him.
“We got into a fight,” Daou groaned, placing his head and his hands after pushing his plate away.
“Sounds more like a fight Daou.”
“Okay we go into a bunch of little fights and one really big one.”
“So what he left you?” His mother asked as he had told his mother about their relationship a few days prior to their big fight.
“Not actually,” Daou admitted to his mother.
“Tell me now,” his mother growled, sensing that there was a lot more to the story that Daou was withholding. Daou spent the next 20 minutes telling his mother everything. Every word said, every thought, every fight. By the end of it, his mother was now the one with her head in her hands.
“I think it’s for the best for now,” Daou said quietly.
“So let me get this right, you fought because of a friend of his who you know and they both admit is a strictly platonic relationship, the same man who helped raise your son and care for the man you call my omega cuddled on the couch?” Daou opened his mouth to respond but he was silenced by his mother’s hand. “I don’t want an answer to that. Furthermore, you bought a condo without consulting him, springing it on him, and practically sabotaged every other option he had, so you could eventually bully him into having to pick the condo he never wanted in the first place?”
“It’s more than that the reactions I get-“
“That’s bullshit and you know it. You are just looking for something else to take the responsibility for this.” His mother growled. “Alphas are territorial and possessive. Tell me something new. What are you scared of?” His mother asked as Daou sat for a moment and thought.
“I don’t know I guess, what if I do all of this and get attached and he leaves?” Daou sighed.
“Okay and what if don’t do anything and he leaves?” His mother asked. “What if he leaves and finds someone else? I heard he is a looker.” Daou growled at that. “Exactly right there knock it off. This isn’t some caveman bullshit you can pull to get your way. He is undoubtedly more scared than you are because he has more to lose. So fix it.” His mother scolded him.
“Papa, can I have your phone?” Chance asked, his voice coming from beside them, scaring Daou and his mother.
“Of course,” Daou said, handing his son his phone. “What for,” Daou asked.
“I wanna show Daddy the puppy and my toys.” Chance said, grabbing the phone from him and skipping back to the living room.
“You owe it to that little boy to make it right and to do whatever is possible to hold onto your family and not let it go.” His mother said watching Chance disappear from sight. “You father despite all the things he is and while I do not agree with his choices he did them thinking of you and of our family first. So fix it.” Daou’s mother finished as she stood taking their plates to the sink. Daou blow out air like it was steam. He knew that for as much fighting as they did, they had barely talked. His mother was right. He was scared. He was scared of losing his son again and losing Offroad this time. His alpha probably felt scared as well.
Daou sighed, pushing up from the table and going to check on Chance. He walked to the living room and watched as Chance propped the phone up on some boxes as he gave Offroad a demonstration of all his new toys.
“Daddy, can I come home?” Chance asked, leaning on the coffee table the phone was resting on his head on his arms. Hearing his son ask that was like an arrow to the heart.
“Oh, but baby your papa has a big day planned for you tomorrow, remember you get to pick out the stuff for your new room,” Offroad told his son, sounding excited for him.
“Can you come with us?” Chance asked.
“Oh, I think this should be time spent with just your papa baby.”
“But you can come too I’ll ask,” Chance whined.
“Baby we talked about this, sometimes you are going to have to go do things with just you and Papa. Daddy got you all to himself for a long time. It’s time for Papa to also get some time.” Offroad explained to their son.
“Are you not coming ’cause Papa didn’t kiss you bye? Are you mad at papa?” Chance asked. “Do you want me to ask him to give you kisses?” Chance asked once more, sitting up with excitement.
“No!” Offroad screamed. “No, please don’t do that. Daddy is fine. I gotta go baby, but I’ll see you when Papa drops you off tomorrow okay? I love you.”
“Love you.” Chance said. Daou heard the phone disconnect. Daou’s heart was breaking. What had he done?

Offroad POV
Offroad sighed, flopping back down on the couch after getting Chance to bed. He was trying to keep strong for everyone around him but in reality, he just wanted to break down and cry. He had spent the entire day looking at condos and houses, it was exhausting on his own, and the landlords were even creepier without Daou there. He had asked Diamond to go with him today while Chance was with Poon. When Chance had called him the other day to show him all the new toys and a cute puppy he had been kind of sad that he was not there with him but he couldn’t sit there next to Daou and not want the man to hold his hand. When Chance had asked about the kisses he had realized that his son knew more about their relationship than he had wanted him to know and the exact reason he didn’t want him to was currently happening. The drop-off last night had been awkward. He had dragged Poon down with them under the pretense of carrying the toys and car seat, Daou didn’t say anything to them except that the car seat he purchased arrived and he wouldn’t need it anymore at pickups. Â
“You wanna talk about it?” Poon asked from the other end of the couch. When he had come back from Daous’ apartment he had been devastated. He had dropped Chance off at daycare before skipping condo hunting to just cry in Poon’s arms. While Poon was upset for him he also tried to explain to Offroad where Daou was coming from. Offroad just shook his head, no amount of talking to someone else was going to settle the issues he was having. “Maybe you could just listen?” Poon asked.
“Fine,” Offroad sighed.
“Even in college you ignored alphas, you slept with betas or other omegas. Your last relationship in college might I add was with a beta and he was a jerk. But as someone who has exclusively dated alphas, you have to tread lightly in the beginning. Like take Frank for instance,” Frank was Poon’s ex an alpha they had dated for almost a year as he live in Hat Yai. “The first month we dated he was crazy territorial that’s why your sex life is almost nonstop in the beginning they want to mark you with their scent and then things calm down their alphas start feeling secure.” Poon laughed. “It’s barbaric but it’s just what happens.” Offroad just gave him a sideways glance. “Wait, do tell me the only time y’all have don’t it was the parking lot?”
“It’s kinda hard when he has work and we have Chance, and I’ve been searching for a condo.” Offroad sighed.
“I still don’t get why you just won’t take the condo he got you.” Poon sighed
“I don’t want a handout. If something happens and we end up back in court at each other’s throats again they are going to take the fact I couldn’t afford my own place and use it against me.” Offroad informed his friend.
“Then tell him you want a lease and to pay rent,” Poon suggested. “Why are both making this complicated?” Poon sighed, annoyed.
“Cause we keep fighting,” Offroad was the one sighing annoyed now.
“Yeah, no wonder his alpha and your omega are both insecure in the relationship. You need to let him know you want this as much as him and stop being a scaredy-cat.”
“Yeah and how do I let him know that?” Offroad asked.
“You be a big boy and TELL HIM, and let him mark you. It will also help calm your omega and hopefully stop you from being so fucking stubborn.” Poon said kicking Offroad with his foot.
“So bond with him?” Offroad asked confused.
“God, for someone who had sex on top of a stranger’s car in broad daylight you are such a virgin.” Poon sighed, scooting closer to him. “Everyone has scent glands here,” Poon said, stroking the sides of his neck.
“I know that’s how you create a bond,” Offroad said rolling his eyes causing Poon to smack his head.
“Alphas have a way to create a mark. It’s not permanent if they can bite your scent glands. It is a way to keep other alphas and betas at bay and let them know you aren’t single. It makes their alphas feel secure and it calms the whole territorial grrrrr I’m an alpha bullshit they pull.” Poon informed him.
“So I just let him bite me?” Offroad asked. He remembered Poon always having bite marks on his neck but he just thought he had some biting kink.
“And fuck you into the mattress yes,” Poon laughed.
“I’m being serious.” Offroad glared at him.
“I am, the second part isn’t 100% necessary but it makes it a hell of a lot more fun,” Poon said, wiggling his eyebrows. Offroad shove him backwards onto the couch as he busted out laughing. “But for real, just tell him how you feel.”
“Oh, Wednesday can you grab Chance after work? I’m going with Diamond to look at more condos,” Offroad asked, standing from the couch.
“Are you gonna talk to him?” Poon called as Offroad walked to his room. Offroad ignored him. He would talk to him but he needed some time to figure out how to formulate exactly what to say he didn’t want to fuck this up anymore.
…….
“What do you mean you can’t make it?” Offroad hissed into the phone at his little brother. He was standing outside a double-sided condo waiting for Diamond to arrive.
“I’m stuck at work,” Diamonds said.
“What work?” Offroad screeched into the phone. Diamond was about to be 19, in college, he didn’t work.
“School work we have a project due.” He said quietly. Offroad heard the hooting in the background, ‘project my ass,’ offroad growled into the phone and hung up. Taking a deep breath and turning to the landlord. “Let’s head on in, my brother is running late.” He smiled at him. Offroad didn’t want to be rude as the man had waited for him for a bit waiting on Diamond but he really didn’t like this and just wanted to get it over with.
“Come on in,” the man said walking through the front door. “Is it a place for you and your brother?” He asked as Offroad stepped inside as well.
“Yes,” Offroad said he stopped mentioning his son due to the last creepy landlord he encountered wanting to ask him about his omega anatomy.Â
“Oh well have a look around I’m here if you have any questions.” He grunted waiving Offroad to go further in. Offroad let out a sigh of relief, he really hadn’t wanted to be followed around. He nodded and smiled at the man and went and looked around. It was 2 bedrooms 1 bath with a bathtub and a shower. Offroad chuckled to himself remembering Daou threw a fit at any place that didn’t have a tub for Chance. He went from room to room looking, the place was quite decent for the price. The man certainly could have been charging more.
**WARNING***
“Do you live in the other half?” Offroad asked as he made his way back to the kitchen.
“Yes,” the man grunted. Offroad could feel his eyes on him as he began opening cabinets.
“Oh, how much is the rent again?” Offroad asked, opening the fridge and peeking in making sure it worked.
“1000, but it can be negotiated,” The man’s voice came from right Offroad causing him to jump.
“I’m sorry?” Offroad said sidestepping the man.
“It’s a 1000 but depending on what you can offer me I can lower it.” The man said smirking at Offroad stepping closer to him. It was time to go.
“Oh no thank you. Thank you for allowing me to take a look. I think I’ll pass.” Offroad said as he attempted to step around the man and make his way to the front door but he was grabbed and pushed against the counter.
“You omega bitches are all the same, flaunting your scent everywhere you go.” The man growled trying to bury his face in Offroads neck but was stopped as Offroad pushed his head away.
“Get the fuck off me,” Offroad said, punching the man’s chest. The man growled, baring his teeth, grabbing Offroad’s hands and forcing them above his head, pinning them against the upper cabinets with his one hand.
“Fight more, I like it when they’re feisty.” The man sneered licking Offroads neck. Offroad felt a hand in between his legs and started kicking at the man blindly his years of soccer were about to account for something. His foot connected with the man’s privates hard and the man dropped his hands to grab his crotch howling in pain. Offroad turned to run but his hand was caught by the man. Offroad balled up his other fist and swung connecting with the man’s nose, when the man didn’t let go Offroad swung again harder hearing and feeling a crunch under his fist. The man finally let him go and Offroad ran and didn’t stop running, letting his feet carry him far away to wherever they wanted to go.
