Evan’s POV
“What!? No! He’s lying!” I cried out in disbelief. I could not believe what I was hearing right now. Max was practically spewing lies like wildfire. I was currently seated on the couch with Dave by my side. Max glaring down at me while Alex stood in between the both of us.
“I’m not lying! I know what I saw!” He pointed dramatically at me. He then turned to Alex. “The guy was practically molesting you in your sleep. He was probably even jacking off to your face! Good thing I was there, or who knows what he would have done.” I scoffed at him.
“N-No. That’s not true,” I stated calmly, trying not to let the fear overcome me. Max is known to be violent and very short tempered around school.
“What? You calling me a liar?!” He made a move to grab me, but was stopped by a frustrated looking Alex. “You little freak,” he muttered under his breath. I didn’t say anything. Retaliating is equivalent to me asking for a death wish, so no thank you.
“Evan, why don’t you explain your side of the story?” Dave suggested.
“W-well, when I woke up, I…” I stopped what I was saying when realization hit me. I glanced at Alex who, in return, gave me a warning glare. I gulped visible and looked away. “I couldn’t sleep, so I came downstairs to get some water but I didn’t know where the glass was kept. I was going to ask Alex since he was already downstairs, but I slipped and f-fell when I reached the front of the couch,” I explained hoping they’d believe me. Max gave me an unconvincing look.
“That doesn’t explain where your hands were all over him,” Max said calmly, but he had an evil glint in his eyes.
“I-I was o-only trying to w-wake him up,” I said quietly. “And my hands were not all over him. You’re lying,” I said that a bit louder. What I said was true. The way he made it sound seemed as if I was touching his body, basically molesting him while he was asleep, which I certainly was not doing.
“Please,” I looked at Alex desperately. “He’s lying.” Alex’s face was unreadable at the moment, but do I detect a hint of amusement on his features? What…
“That’s ridiculous. Evan would not do something like that,” Dave said with a deep frown etched onto his face. At least someone was on my side. Max rolled his eyes.
“And how would you know that? None of us have ever talked to him before this stupid project was assigned to them. Stop acting like you’re his friend. Why are you even siding with him? He has no friends, so don’t give him the benefit of the doubt.” Those words stung like knives. I looked down and played with the hem of my long sleeves. I knew no one like me, but to hear him actually say it…that hurt.
Before Dave could retaliate, a deep chuckle interrupted him. We turned to the direction of said sound, only to realize it was coming from Alex. “Wow Max, and I thought my words were terrible,” he continued to chuckle. When his chuckles finally came to a stop, his hand shot out and grabbed my throat. I looked at him with fear in my eyes. He twisted my face from left to right, studying my features carefully. “He won’t do that. He’s too much of a coward,” Alex stated.
“But-” Max interrupted but was cut off.
“But if he ever tries anything,” Alex’s hand tightened around my throat, causing both of my hands to wrap around his wrist in hopes of prying them off, “Then I won’t hesitate to crush him.” With that, he released his grip on my neck. I took a shaky breath and rubbed the front of my neck. I looked down, too afraid to meet the gazes of anyone at the moment. “So, who’s up for breakfast?” Alex suddenly piped up, as if the events that had just transpired did not happen at all.
