A+ A-

Damien

“Damien, I was invited to a Halloween party! I just got the invitation.” Velvet ran into the room excitedly. I had spent the night over her house and I was still under the blankets asleep.

“That’s great Velv… but it’s like 10 in the morning on a Saturday. I’m tired.” I pulled the blankets over my body more, as I felt the cold fall air flushing over the room.

“Actually it’s 2 in the afternoon. But that’s not the point- you have to come with me!” She flopped down next to me on the bed, her nose brushing against mine. Her desperate brown eyes begging me.

“How come?” I sigh.

“What if I cheat, or some guy flirts with me?”
She gave me a peck on the nose. And it doesn’t feel how it used to feel when she kissed me. It feels wrong. I feel wrong, guilty. It feels like I’m using her.

Her expression becomes concerned from the lack of attention she was receiving. There’s a bit of hurt in her expression.

I swiftly find my way on top of her, my hands on either sides of her head. “Are you telling me that you’d cheat on me?” I smirk as my face is inches from her’s.

“I wouldn’t, you know I love you.”

I bit down on my lips, “Me… too.”

I hate that I’m lying to her, I want to break up with her. But I don’t know how. I’m hurting her by lying to her, but if I break up with her Ill break her heart even more.

“Well since you’re going, I’ve already picked you out a great outfit.” She slipped off from under me and ran out of the room.

I sat down on the bed and let out a groan.
“I’m such a terrible person. I can’t keep doing this to her. When she gets back in here I’ll tell her.”

She deserves better, someone who truly loves her. That person isn’t me, and it hasn’t been for a while. Ever since a certain two people came back into my life. Even before then I didn’t necessarily love her. I enjoyed her company as a friend, so I just played it out. Now I realized that I’m hurting her by faking my love for her.

“Damien, look, I just brought this. You’re gonna be joker and I’m Harley Quinn. I’ve really gotten do great on the make up to make you look like joker and me Harley though.”

She held out the signature Harley Quinn outfit, and Joker outfit with a wide smile.

I can’t tell her right now

She’s too happy right now

“They look great babe.” I flashed her a quick smile and she layed the clothes on the bed before grabbing me and sitting me in the chair in front of her vanity. I look at myself in the mirror.

“Damn I’m attractive.”

“I know you are.” She kissed my cheek before grabbing her make up material and began my Joker transformation.

“Ok! We’re finishing. We look great.” She looked at herself in the mirror, posing for herself.
“I look great I mean.”

“What happened to we look great? Because I look like I can steal several glasses of alcohol from people and they would let me.”

“You’re humor is as dead as my grandma.” She rolled her eyes before grabbing me by the hand and dragging me out of the room. She interlocks our fingers, and I feel uncomfortable. Not in a bad way, but I feel like I shouldn’t be the one holding her hand right now.

~~~
“Leah!” Velvet shouts as she let’s go of my hand and hugs the girl.
“Oh, girl who is he?” Her friend whistled at me and I gave her a weird look. I was still in a relationship, whether I was gonna break up with her sooner or later, allowing someone else to cat call me or flirt with me was still off limits.
“My boyfriend.” Velvet held my hand again.
“Really? I’ve never seen him around.”
“He’s a freshman in college.”
Velvet was a senior. I met her when I was a junior and she was a sophomore. So it might seem a bit weird to some people since I’m 19 and she’s 17. But she’s turning 18 in a few months.
We walk into the house, and everyone is either dancing, or doing some dumbass shit. There’s a kid trying to balance a kitchen knife on his nose, while riding a skateboard. And someone else is pouring beer on themselves like they’re taking a shower in it.
Everyone was basically naked, I was the most clothed in here. What the hell is this. Is this how I was in highschool? I hope not.
“Why am I here again?”
“To protect me of course.” She dragged me through the house full of people until she was at the cooler where all the alcohol and beers were.
“Which do you want?”
“Nothing, I’m gonna make sure you don’t do anything stupid.”
“Suit yourself.” She gradded a beer can and popped the can open before immediately down nearly all of it.
“Whoa calm down, you know you’re a little drinker.”
She puts her hand on my chest to stop me before finishing the last bit of the beer can. She grabs another and pops it open.
“Velvet-“
She smashed her lips onto mine and I taste the beer in her mouth. I pull away from her, “Velvet, I’m telling you to not drink so much.”
“Don’t be a party pooper, what do you think parties are for?” She drinks from the can before burping. I let out an irritated sigh as I cross my arms.
“Velvet!” I turn and see the same girl from earlier, “You completely ran off girl… Are you tipsy already?”
“She’s a little more than tipsy. She’s a light drinker.” I explained as I watch Velvet drink the last bit of her beer.
“Are you sure, I’ve drank with her for a while, she isn’t a light drinker.” The girl laughs as we look over at Velvet, and she’s not there.
Where’d she go?
“Fucking hell Velvet.” I mumble as I walk off into the large crowd of people either making out or dancing.
And I see Velvet dancing with some guy, and she’s definitely tipsy, but she’s having a good time with him.
Tell her now?
God, this is hard.
Im hurting her when she could have better options, she deserves so much better—
“Damien?” A familiar voice snapped me out of my thoughts, I turned around and and see Noelle.
Why’s she here?
“Noelle? What are you doing here.”
“My younger brother wanted me to come with him, I don’t know why but who knows.” She responds as she stares at me quizzedly. “You ok? You seem stress, are you alright?”
“Yea I’m perfectly—”
“Im majoring in psychology, you aren’t ok. What’s wrong?” She asks again.
“… It’s Velvet.”
Noelle looked on the other side of me, before looking back at me. “Jealous?”
“No, I wanna break up with her, but I don’t know how without hurting her.”
“Wha—….” I turn around and see Velvets standing behind me. Her mouth is slightly agap open, her eyes are wide and full of heart break.
“Velv listen—”
“I don’t think I can listen to you right now Damien. I can’t believe you let me bring you here just for you to break up with me.” Her eyes began to swell up with tears as she dropped her beer can and ran off sobbing.
“I— fuck, I’m such an asshole.”
“Don’t beat yourself up, the worst you could’ve done was cheat. Ill talk to her, you go home. If she stays at this party, your face might be the last one she wants to see.”
“Tell her I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for it to end like this.” I let out a sigh, “and Thanks.”
“No problem.” Noelle responds before walking off to find Velvet.
I should have just broken up with her when she told me about the party, I should have just gotten it over with.
She wasted her money and her makeup on me, just for me to break up with her within the first 20 minutes of by being here.
She deserves so much better than me
