Me:
Guess who’s at my Thanksgiving?
Damien:
Who?
Me:
Nathan 😒
Damien:
That shit head? Is he a cousin of yours?
Me:
No, his mom is my mom’s friend, and I probably am going to have to share a room with him. Literally come and kill my already.
Damien:
I feel bad for you, I would hang myself if I had to share a room with him.
Me:
If I were to go to jail for killing him, would you bail me out?
Damien:
Yea, honestly you would be doing everyone a favor.
Me:
Especially Caleb
Damien:
You still didn’t tell me what happened between the two of you at the store the other day.
Me:
…
Damien:
Milo, what happened?
Me:
I can’t tell you. If I do, I’ll be putting Caleb at risk of getting hurt
Damien:
…
Me:
I’ll take care of it, I promise I will
Damien:
Don’t get yourself hurt in the process, don’t forget you matter too Milo. And if anything happens, tell me, ok?
Me:
I will.
Also how’s your Thanksgiving going?
Damien:
I drove back home, my parents fucked it up
Me:
If you want to talk, I’m here. Ok?
Damien:
Thanks

I close my phone and look up at the ceiling with a sigh. I hope he’s alright. Since I’ve known him he’s always had problems with his parents. I wish I could comfort him.
It’s midnight, and I just can’t seem to fall asleep. Nathan was in the bed I was in completely knocked out. I can’t believe they made me share a bed with him.
I pull the the blanket off me and toss my legs out of the bed before making my way out the room and downstairs as quietly as possible. Past my aunts, uncle’s, and cousins.
I open the fridge and grab the large jug full of juice before grabbing a cup and pouring it in my cup.
“Milo?” My mom called out, which startled me as I involuntarily look around.
“Calm down, don’t worry, I couldn’t sleep either?” She responds before grabbing a beer out of fridge. This was my first time seeing her drinking a beer, but I didn’t question her.
“How come you’re up?” I ask as I sip from my juice.
“Couldn’t sleep. What about you?”
“Things on my mind.”
“Like?” She prys.
“My roommates, school, y’know that stuff.”
I explain, trying to brush it off but she only seemed to get even more curious.
“Roommates? Didn’t you tell me your roommates were the same people from your cabin back during summer camp.”
“Yea, they are. And I’m worried about them. Well specifically two of them.”
“How come?”
I let out a sigh, “Well one of them are in a bad relationship with a guy, and I don’t know how I can help him without making it worse for him. And the other is going through something with his parents, and he has for a long time. He left his family Thanksgiving because of them, and I’m worried about how it’s effecting him. I want to help them but I don’t know how.”
“Oh, that’s deepee than I thought it was going to be.” She cleared her throat as she fixed her posture. “Well gave you tried talking to them about it? Tell them you want to help.”
“Caleb he- he has a boyfriend that’s… dangerous. And I don’t know how to stop him without either of us getting hurt. And I don’t want him to get hurt, I love him and knowing that he-”
That he could be seriously hurt, or maybe even killed scares me.
“Dangerous? Is that Caleb guy being blackmailed, or abused?”
“Yea, and I’m scared for him. What if I lose him?” My mom pulls me into a hug, her hand gently rubbing up and down my backside.
“I can help, but I need to know who this Caleb guy is, and who’s blackmailing or abusing him.”
“I can’t tell you, if I do it’ll put him in more danger.” I pull away from the hug.
“Whatever you do, be careful. I don’t want you getting hurt, ok?”
“I promise I won’t. And when I am able to, I promise I’ll get help from you.”
“What about your other roommate? You said he going through something with his parents.”
“Yea, ever since I’ve known him, back at horizon camp, he’s had problems with his parents. I don’t know exactly what he’s going through, but he’s lashed out before because of it, and I don’t know how to help him.”
“Sometimes you can’t fix everything hun.” She puts the beer on the counter with a sigh, and I can’t help but bite down on my lip.
“So there’s nothing I can do?” I helplessly input.
“Well you can help him, by letting him know that you’ll be there for him, and if he wants to talk you’ll listen. Parental issues aren’t things that can be fixed with a pat on the back.”
“I know, I just want him to be ok. I want both of them to be ok.”
“It’s nice to hear you talk about people like this. Usually you don’t care about others, but these people must be important to you.”
“…They are.”
“Let them know that then. Don’t let the people who are important to you think that you don’t care about them.” She places a kiss on my forehead. “Love you Milo, and please get some sleep.”
“I will, and I love you too mom.” She smiles and walks away, I hear the stairs creaks as she walk up them. After I’m finished with my juice I do the same and head upstairs and get under my blanket. Pulling out my phone I text them in our little group chat.
Me:
I want you to know that you guys are important to me, and anything that you’re going through you can talk to me about.
