He’s The One Who’s Dead, He Did Not Do A Single Subject At All.
That night, a certain drunkard went to sleep perfectly satisfied.
The second morning, he woke up with a start.
The time on his phone showed that it was 5.37am, there was still more than 30 minutes until his daily alarm rang. The air condition hummed at a low speed. Sheng Wang rethinked his life as he sat on his bed, hugging his pillow.
There were three major laws for Newton, there were two major conflicts for socialism. 16 years of his life, and there was only one thing he could not figure out—
Why do people drink?
He drank five mugs last night, and lost his entire lifetime supply of face because of that.
Let’s recall what he did. The killer would be what he said to Jiang Tian. Were those even words of a human? Words like that, even if someone gave him ten thousand dollars, he would refuse to let it leave his mouth at all.
He wanted to smother himself to death on the bed. However, after trying for five minutes, his phone vibrated. He groped around all zombie-like, and hauled it over. It was a notification about a transfer into his bank account, the transferer was his dad.
Who knew what international time zone Sheng Mingyang was living with right now, he gave him money for some mysterious reason that early in the morning.
Sheng Wang switched to WeChat, wanting to send his dad a voice message. However, the moment he went in he saw Jiang Tian, who was all the way at the top. The last message was at 11+ last night, said content was still that ‘Then I’m entering.â€
With a shake of his hand, he left the app again.
In the end it was still Sheng Mingyang who sent a message first. Sheng Wang directly accessed it from his notification panel.
His dad’s message was a forwarded message with much middle age energy to it, saying that the weather had been erratic lately, young people who often stay in air-conditioned rooms for a long time would often run into all sorts of minor health troubles, it should be flu season now.
Sheng Wang sniffled, thinking that his dad probably acquired clairvoyance.
With his cold and hangover, his throat was parched to the point of cracking open. He was guilty enough to not dare send voice messages, and so he could only type.
Canned: Dad, why did you suddenly send me money?
Encyclopedia of Good Health: I sent it the moment I recalled. Why are you up so early today?
Canned: Hardworking.
Encyclopedia of Good Health: [thumbs up]
Encyclopedia of Good Health: Then you should be leaving for school already. Remember to eat your breakfast.
Canned: Okay.
Sheng Wang closed his WeChat, and saw that it was 5.45am on his phone. Comrade Sheng Mingyang gave him a new way out. Though he lost his face, weren’t his legs perfectly fine? While nobody’s up at this time, he could probably sneak to school!
He took action the moment he decided. Sheng Wang immediately jumped off the bed and rushed into the bathroom, took a quick shower and thoroughly blow-dried his hair with a quiet hair dryer. 5.53am, he grabbed his school jacket, grabbed his bag and was about to leave.
His hand was already touching the doorknob before he pouted and retreated back to the bed. That bag full of medicine was quietly lying down beside his pillow. He grabbed his bangs, and fretted for a while before deciding to toss the bag into his bag anyways.
With this back and forth, he was delayed by two minutes, and young master Sheng finally met his retribution—
The moment he opened his bedroom door, he saw Jiang Tian walking out next door with a bag in his hands.
Shit.
Sheng Wang’s mind went blank, and instantly shut the door again. He squatted behind the door, burying his face in his palms, feeling like life was too unpredictable.
What was most unpredictable was that he only squatted for two seconds before someone knocked on his bedroom door. If this was yesterday, there was no way this would have happened. Jiang Tian would have eaten something wrong before he would even go knock on his door.
But today……everything was possible.
Look, didn’t that just happen—
Sheng Wang’s phone vibrated once, causing goosebumps popping up all over his body. When he opened it, it was a new WeChat message.
Jiang Tian: ?
Sheng Wang rubbed his face until his face went out of shape, and silently brokedown for a moment before he finally typed.
Canned: Diarrhoea.
Jiang Tian: ……
He didn’t know if the other person bought into his bullshit, either way Sheng Wang hoped he bought into it. For the sake of extra realism, he ditched his slippers, and quietly snuck into the bathroom while barefooted. He flushed the toilet.
Only when he heard the footsteps go downstairs, Sheng Wang then tossed his bag, and sat at the edge of the bathtub.
If he could, he would like to spend the rest of his life there. Still, he had to go to school.
Sheng Wang managed to sit at the edge all the way until 6.15am. Judging from the usual schedule, Jiang Tian should have finished his breakfast by now, and would leave after packing his bag.
He dilly dallied for a few more minutes, and was finally sufficiently mentally prepared. He slung his bag on his shoulders, and calmly left the bedroom. Just as he went down, he heard Jiang Ou ask, “Is there medicine for diarrhoea at home?â€
Auntie Sun replied, “Let me think, there should be. I prepared all commonly used medicine, I’ll go find it.â€
She walked towards the storage from the kitchen, and came face to face with Sheng Wang who just came downstairs.
“Xiao-Wang, you’re here now?†Auntie Sun said, “Aiyoyo, look at that look on your face. Is your stomach still hurting?â€
Her voice was not soft, it was enough to attract other people’s attention in the house.
Sheng Wang subconsciously shot a glance at the living room sofa, only to see Jiang Tian’s hand, previously packing his bag, stopped, and lifted his head to look at him. Sheng Wang was that close to escaping back upstairs from being looked at.
“Xiao-Wang, come have some porridge, put something in your stomach.â€
Jiang Ou poked her head out from the area with the dining table, and waved at him. She had learned her lesson today, and wore a pair of heat-proof gloves. She looked more gentle than before. Sheng Wang initially wanted to say that he wasn’t really hungry, but when he thought of the specially made honey water last night, he ended up sitting at the table after a moment of hesitation.
“……Thank you, auntie.†Sheng Wang’s throat was tight, his voice was stiff.
Sheng Mingyang had always been trying to get him to accept a new ‘mom’, a new ‘older brother’, but he could only make himself call her till that degree.
Unexpectedly, Jiang Ou was clearly overjoyed.
She settled the porridge in front of Sheng Wang, gave a small laugh and said, “Calling me that is fine.â€
Sheng Wang paused.
Jiang Ou said, “Hey, you and Xiao-Tian are classmates after all, thinking of me as your classmate’s mom or neighbour will do. Auntie is just carrying out your dad’s request, and will take care of you a little, and feed you when he’s not around. If I put it like this, do you feel a little better now?â€
The sunlight in the morning was pale, and the juxtaposition added a sense of gentleness for a person. She still closely resembled that person who passed away, and Sheng Wang did not dare to keep on looking. He lowered his eyes and scooped the porridge.
As long as he did not look……it was like it really wasn’t that hard to accept anymore.
Sheng Wang busied himself with drinking a few mouthfuls, and replied with a low ‘mm’.
Jiang Ou smiled again.
Ah, women, when she’s in a good mood you could never tell what she would be capable of — Sheng Wang was right in the middle of eating porridge, when he suddenly heard Jiang Ou ask in the direction of the living room, “You’re changing your shoes now?â€
Sheng Wang knew who she was talking to, but he did not want to look up. He only shot a glance from the edge of the bowl.
Jiang Tian stood at the entrance hall with his bag. It looked like he planned to leave already.
Sheng Wang internally said, good, hurry up and leave.
However, Jiang Ou said, “It’s already this time, why don’t you wait for Xiao-Wang?â€
Sheng Wang did not manage to swallow the spoonful of porridge that just entered his mouth yet, and became solid on the spot.
Jiang Tian’s movement paused a little, and seriously let go of the door knob after a moment of hesitation. He leaned against the cabinet at the entrance hall, dug out his phone and started scrolling through it. Even though he did not reply, his position said everythingーhe seriously started waiting for him.
Fuck.
Sheng Wang choked, and coughed until he nearly passed away.
6.40am, Sheng Wang finally finished the last mouthful of porridge, and could no longer delay anymore. He boarded the car with Jiang Tian.
It was the first time he managed to drive the two of them at once, Uncle Xiao-Chen was incredibly excited. He talked non-stop the moment he started driving, and only after talking for five minutes later, then he realised that something was wrong.
The mood in the backseats was extremely heavy. Young master Sheng Wang usually slumped on the seats like a quadriplegic, in whatever position that made him feel the most comfortable. Today however, he sat all proper and upright, staring straight ahead.
Xiao-Chen had no clue what was going on, and sat up a little straighter.
The car ran into a mild traffic jam near the school. Sheng Wang’s fingers tapped on his knee, counting by seconds. He had never felt that the road to school was this long.
Jiang Tian was sitting right next to him. From the corner of his eyes, he could see a white earpiece stuffed in his ears, and his head was lowered as he browsed through his phone. Judging by the colour of his screen, it was probably a certain English newspaper.
How fascinating, that even though he did not become extra friendly or anything, Sheng Wang could feel that his entire person seemed to be different.
While in the jam, he flipped through two more pages, and the English newspaper finally reached its end.
The traffic started moving again. Xiao-Chen spun the wheel, and the car took a turn into Fuzhong Road. The sun moved from the back to the right, and shined in through the car window, draping all over Sheng Wang.
Jiang Tian, who was next to him, suddenly opened his mouth and asked, “Sober now?â€
Sheng Wang let out an ‘Mm’, and said, “Yeah.â€
“Do you still remember what happened last night?†Jiang Tian asked again.
“It’s all blank afterwards.†Sheng Wang sheepishly said.
The car was silent for a good while, and no one said a single word. Xiao-Chen shot them a glance via the rearview mirror, Sheng Wang shifted his gaze to look out the window.
He licked his lips as he squinted. He suddenly felt that the sunlight was too piercing, and it was annoying.
Yet a few more seconds later, he finally heard Jiang Tian toss out a line, in a voice that was neither hot nor cold, “I just knew it.â€
The moment his words ended, Uncle Xiao-Chen braked. They stopped outside the school gates, and Jiang Tian exited the car, his bag in his hands, and not a single glance back.
Sheng Wang and Uncle Xiao-Chen could only look at each other in dismay in the car.
Xiao-Chen said, “What got him mad?â€
Sheng Wang gave a dry laugh, “It’s my fault.â€
He actually was mentally prepared that Jiang Tian had an eighty-ninety percent chance of being upset with that statement. Yet, the moment he really saw the person freeze back up, he felt a little regretful all of a sudden.
His face or Jiang Tian, one had to go, right?
Logic told him, keep his face.
Sheng Wang went into Mingli Block via passing through the shade of the parasol trees. Before he even entered the classroom, he already felt the strange atmosphere.
There was still five minutes until 7am, under normal conditions, Class A was basically a noisy market. There should be a boiling cauldron of noises, and extraordinary liveliness, yet today was exceptionally proper.
The moment he entered, he finally knew why—
The first two periods of today were English. Jing-jie usually entered the class right on the dot. However, she made an exception for today, and came by early. She did not stand at the teaching platform, instead, she stood in between the tiny walkways separating the tables. The forty plus mischievous kids did not go for the water banquet, and all remained properly in their seats. It was just that some were sitting, and some were standing.
What is even going on? They were practising standing pose before they even start class?
Sheng Wang sneaked into his seat, and looked around in a loss. Jiang Tian would be ignoring him for the time being. He patted Gao Tianyang’s shoulder, hoovered slightly over his desk and whispered, “How long has Jing-jie been here?â€
Gao Tianyang’s back touched his table as he replied lowly, “Right before you, by like two three minutes.â€
“What’s she so early for?â€
“I don’t know who tattled, she’s here to conduct a spotcheck for the homework.â€
Gao Tianyang aspirated, “I’m gonna die, I didn’t do English.â€
Sheng Wang, “……â€
He’s the one who’s going to die, he did not do a single subject.
Just as he was suffocating on the spot, Yang Jing had already reached their group, and started checking one by one from the front. As she checked, she said, “Some students’ have the wrong way of thinking, thinking that just because you are in a science class, you just need to be good in the three sciences. You think you can just blunder your way through language and English, and make do. As long as they don’t pull your score down it’s no big deal. People with this way of thinking, well, your brains have probably been polished, it must be especially smooth now.â€
A few people could not hold themselves back, and let out a snort. Seeing how the atmosphere was they instantly stopped it in the tracks.
“You have the nerve to laugh?†Yang Jing said, “â€I beg you, please get it straight. You’re not just a normal science class, you are Class A. All the best teachers, the best resources go to all of you. Who are you trying to disgust by getting mediocre scores in the end? I know, we each have our own strengths, and some people genuinely aren’t good with English, I understand. I’m not a yaksha — quit trembling, why are you trembling? All of you always acted as if you’ve seen a ghost when you see me, you think I don’t know what you’re thinking?â€
“What I want is an attitude. As long as I can see your effort, no matter your scores I’ll find a way to praise you. But did you give it? Hell no! Some people, I could tell that he definitely didn’t do it even without checking. Right, Gao Tianyang?â€
Yang Jing finally arrived in front of Gao Tianyang, took a look at his paper, and gave a cold laugh. She knocked on his table as she said, “Take some initiative, stand up.â€
“And some students, I don’t even need to check to know that he definitely did it—â€
As Yang Jing said that, she walked to Sheng Wang’s table and took a look. It was all blank.
Yang Jing looked down, “……â€
Sheng Wang looked up, “……â€
At that moment, the classroom was no different from the cemetery.
The next second, Yang Jing said softly and gently, “My face hurts, can you feel that?â€
Sheng Wang did not dare to move.
Yang Jing flicked his empty paper, saying, “Take this thing, grab a pen, and go stand outside the classroom.â€
Sheng Wang covered his face, took his paper and a pen, and went out without any protest.
The moment he left, he heard Yang Jing saying from the inside, “Aiyo, I’m so pissed now, I can’t be bothered to check anymore. Those who didn’t do your paper, show some initiative, and be like him. Take your pen and get out to do it. Don’t bother lying, I look past it if you go out on your own. If you choose to stubbornly stay inside the class and let me catch you, your week’s night self study belongs to me now.â€
The instant after she spoke, the classroom rang with the noise of chairs shuffling around. A bunch of people filed out, and all came to accompany Sheng Wang.
Just as he was counting how many people there were, there was suddenly a commotion in the classroom, like they were shocked at something.
The people walking outside all looked back. Sheng Wang was also a little curious, and looked inside via the window. Then, he froze—
Because Jiang Tian stood up too, he grabbed his paper and joined the very end of the line.
That commotion just now must have been for him.
Good news stays at home, but bad news spreads a thousand miles.
First period of morning class had not even started yet, and the whole level already knew the two insanely hot school princes were chased out of the class by the teacher. There were around 10 people in a row, and of the two of them, one stood at one end, the other person at the other. They had zero interaction, and were clearly on terrible terms.
TO BE CONTINUED.
