Brady Hutton
“Why did you invite the idiot?”I pointed at Roy.
“He’s just here to stop me if I do anything stupid,” Dan explained.
“I’m not an idiot.”Roy pouted, “You’re an idiot.”
“I’m gonna go get a drink.”I ignored him and went up to the bar to order only one drink. I went back to the table and gave the beer to Dan.
“Where’s my drink?”Roy asked.
“You didn’t get your heartbroken and I don’t want to risk my badge being suspended for this,” I said to Roy.
Dan had told Roy everything and I just had a feeling that the idiot would make sneaking Dan a drink more harder.
“Aren’t you gonna have any?”Dan asked me.
“I’m driving.”I pointed out.
“I can drive,” Roy added.
“Did you bring your car with you?”I asked.
“No.”He said and finally shut his mouth.
“Can I see some Id?”
The owner of the bar, Mark suddenly came to our table.
I could see that Dan was already panicking and so, I gave him a weird look to calm him down.
“Oh, hey Mark.”I said casually, “That might be a problem.”
“Why is that?”Mark raised his eyebrows.
“Because they’re undocumented.”I whispered to him, “They don’t even speak English.”
“Si,” Roy said, making Dan and I cringe.

That got used kicked out of the bar.
With that, I let Dan help himself out with my minibar. I took my eyes out of the both of them for 5 minutes and when I came back, the both of them were already wasted.
“You gotta be kidding me.”I cringe, “How many have you guys had?”I looked through the table and saw that they drunk way more than they should have, “And who told you to drink anything, idiot?”
Great! I had to take care of two drunk teenagers during my day off.
“I’m not an idiot.”Roy defended, “But I need to puke.”He gaged and I gave him a trash can, “Can you hold my hair back.”He asked.
“Your hair is not even that long.”I pointed out.
“Great, now I don’t want to barf anymore.”He rolled his eyes,” Thanks a lot.”
“Screw Laurel.”Dan said out of nowhere, “I don’t even like her that much. She has a stupid brunette hair that smells like men shampoo, her blue eyes are NOT something like a Disney princess character, her not being as tall as me ain’t any more attractive either.”
Sounded like he meant the opposite of everything.
“I wanna dance.”Roy stood up from the floor,” Brady, do you want to dance?”He asked drunkenly.
“No,” I said sternly.
I didn’t know what to do. I could send them back home but also didn’t wanted to explain to their parents that I, a deputy, got them drunk.
I then heard the doorbell rang.
“Don’t touch anything, “I warned and went to the door. I opened it and got nervous when Liam was standing in front of me because I really couldn’t explain what was going on.
“Hi.”He greeted with a smile.
“Who sent you?”I asked.
“My dad did.”He said and it sounded like someone fell in the living room, “Do you have company?”
“It’s probably just my cat.”I lied.
“You have a cat?”He raised his eyebrows.
“It’s not really a good time, Liam, “I said seriously.
“Heyyyy, “Roy greeted Liam at the door and hugged him, “Have anyone told you what a great friend you are?”Roy wrapped his arms around Liam’s shoulder and brought him inside. I followed them to the living room, where Dan was dancing with a bottle of whiskey in his hand.
“What is going on, Brady?”Liam clenched his teeth and lead me outside of the living room.
“I told them that they could only have one drink.”I defended.
“Why are you letting them drink in the first place?”He asked angrily, “How can you be so irresponsible?”He crossed his arms above his chest.
How can you be so irresponsible?
That took me back to the day my parents died.
I remember my father holding me by the back of my neck and shoving me inside the house.
“How can you be so irresponsible?”He spat, “I gave you a specific job. Pick up your little brother and sister after school. Why is that so hard?”
“I lost track of time.”I said casually, “Plus, their home now so…I’m just gonna go-“
“You’ve been hanging out with those orphans again, aren’t you?”He asked bitterly.
“Look who suddenly cares where I go.”I said sarcastically, “Fuck you.”
“Cursing at your father now?”He said angrily, “Maybe you should just leave. Go away with those orphans.”
“Maybe I will, “I smirked.
I came back home only a few hours later to see that they were both dead.
“Brady?”Liam said softly, “Are you okay?”He squeezed my upper arm.
“Yeah, I’m good.”I shrugged, “Just remembered that I have to pick something up in my room.”I rushed to my bedroom upstairs and sat down on the bed to process what just happened. I haven’t had any of these episodes in a while and this one kinda freaked me out.

“Like hell, I’m letting him stay over.”Sheriff Rawley spat on the phone.
“His friends are also here and I can’t leave them alone, “I explained.
“Let me speak to Liam.”He demanded.
I handed my phone to Liam, “He wants to talk to you.”
Liam sighed before grabbing the phone and let his father said whatever he was saying first.
“Yeah, Roy and Dan are also here.”He said on the phone, “They’re drunk and are crashing here for the night.”He waited for his father to say something else before continuing, “Yes, I trust Brady and you should too.”
“He wants to talk to you.”Liam gave me the phone.
“I would definitely know if you try anything.”The sheriff warned.
“I promise that nothing will happen, “I assured.
“It better.”He said seriously, “Goodbye.”
He hung up the phone.
It was the first night that Liam and I were spending together. Sleeping in the same bed as him was a weird feeling because I’ve never had to share my bed with anyone since forever.
“Hey, Brady.”He rested his head on my chest while I stare at the wall.
“What is it?”I asked.
“What happened just now?”He asked seriously, “You looked all tense. Did you had one of your episodes again?”
“I was.”I said honestly, “But I can handle them pretty well now.”
“What did you see?”He asked curiously, looking deeply into my eyes.
“Let’s not get into that, “I suggested.
“Sorry.”He mumbled, “I didn’t mean to-“
My phone rang again and I sighed, thinking that it was the sheriff again but it wasn’t. Instead, it was a call I thought I won’t be hearing in a while.
“I have to get this.”I stood up and rushed outside the room.
I picked up the phone,”Am I talking to Mr. Hutton?”The lady asked.
“Yeah, that’s me, “I said.
“So, we found your siblings but you being their caretaker doesn’t seem that possible at the moment.”She explained.
“Why is that?”I asked.
“They’re already adopted.”She said.
