 Â
A week had passed, and the weather had begun to shift.
The air was crisper now, noticeably cooler than when Takemichi first arrived. He could feel it creeping in, biting at his skin in the early mornings and late evenings, a sharp contrast to the warmth he’d grown used to.
Winter was approaching faster than he expected.
Takemichi gazed upwards, his eyes tracing the rough ceiling of the cave above him, as though lost in thought. In reality, his mind was preoccupied with the latest task the system had assigned to him.
 Â
“Triggering the second series of tasks: Please collect enough food before the cold winter arrives.”
 Â
The system had instructed in its usual calm, mechanical voice.
The ambiguity of the command made him uneasy. What exactly did “enough” mean? How much food would they need to survive the winter?
These were questions he couldn’t answer on his own, so he had turned to Baji and Seishu, his trusted companions. He asked them to bring back as much as they could, hoping it would be sufficient.
In the days that followed, Baji took it upon himself to venture out on hunting expeditions every day, rarely returning empty-handed.
His skills were unmatched, honed by years of surviving in the wild. Seishu, on the other hand, stayed back at the cave, tending to chores and keeping a watchful eye on Takemichi. It was almost like Seishu had taken on the role of protector, ensuring no harm befell him while they prepared for the colder days ahead.
Both Baji and Seishu had always spent their winters in solitude. Baji rarely stayed with his family during this time.
Though he had his mother in a nearby cave, he preferred to hunt and deliver meat to her before retreating to the cave where the tribe’s previous leaders once resided.
There, he would spend most of the winter, alone, much like the leaders before him. His survival skills were almost legendary, and his hunting prowess only added to his reputation.
Every time Baji returned from a hunt, his arms were laden with prey, often more than any other hunter in the tribe. Mu Xiang, a spirited young female with a sharp tongue, couldn’t help but tease Takemichi about it.
“Isn’t our tribe leader just incredible?”
She mused, her voice light and playful as she leaned in closer to Takemichi.
“He brings back more prey by himself than my entire family does combined. Right, Takemichi?”
Mu Xiang had five male partners, all skilled hunters in their own right, but even they couldn’t match the efficiency or skill of Baji.
It was no secret that Baji was highly admired, and Mu Xiang wasn’t the only one who acknowledged his abilities. Her teasing, though light-hearted, carried a hint of envy.
“Uh, yeah… he is”
Takemichi replied, blinking in confusion as he struggled to keep up with her rapid-fire commentary.
He never really knew how to respond to Mu Xiang’s banter.
Mu Xiang raised an eyebrow at his response, clearly unimpressed, but then broke into a smile, albeit a disappointed one. She had grown used to Takemichi’s obliviousness.
He often missed the nuances of conversations, which only added to his endearing, if somewhat frustrating, nature.
“Yeah, yeah”
She muttered sarcastically, rolling her eyes before turning away.
Takemichi frowned slightly, wondering if he had somehow said the wrong thing again. But as usual, he shrugged it off, deciding that whatever it was, it wasn’t his problem to solve.
Instead, he refocused his thoughts.
There was something far more exciting on his mind today.
Today was special.
A grin spread across his face as he thought about the reason. It was finally the day he would be able to adopt his two cubs. The anticipation bubbled up inside him, filling him with energy. His heart raced as he gathered his things, eager to head to Lang Zhu’s cave where the cubs were waiting.
Takemichi could barely contain his excitement. He had spent days preparing for this moment, envisioning how it would feel to finally hold the cubs in his arms.
The thought of caring for them, of having something so precious and innocent to protect, brought him a sense of purpose he hadn’t felt in a long time.
Winter might be approaching, but for Takemichi, today was filled with warmth.
 Â

  Â
During the past few days, whenever Takemichi had some free time, he made a habit of visiting the cubs in Lang Zhu’s cave. He couldn’t resist the urge to check on them, spending hours just watching them grow and bond with him. Lang Zhu had observed these visits with a knowing smile, watching how the cubs responded to Takemichi’s presence.
Now, after what felt like weeks of waiting, Lang Zhu had finally confirmed it: Takemichi could take the cubs home with him. The anticipation that had built up over those days flooded him with excitement.
The two cubs had become thoroughly familiar with Takemichi.
They not only recognized his scent but had already marked him as their parent.
Whenever he was with them, they would cling to him relentlessly, their small bodies pressing into his as if they never wanted to be apart.
And whenever it was time for him to leave Lang Zhu’s cave and return to his own, they would protest, sometimes whining or pawing at him, making it nearly impossible for him to go without feeling guilty.
It was as if they were shouting to the world, “Takemichi is our papa!â€
Takemichi couldn’t help but smile every time this happened. He had a theory that the cubs behaved this way because they imprinted on him right after hatching.
The first face they saw was his, and much like newborn chicks and other animals, they naturally assumed he was their parent.
He chuckled at the thought, marveling at how life had thrown him into the unexpected role of caregiver. Despite the challenges of the wild, the idea of raising the cubs brought a sense of joy and responsibility that warmed his heart.
With Lang Zhu’s blessing secured, Takemichi made out his way to Mu Xiang’s cave as he bid her farewell.
He had spent some time there earlier, talking with her, but now it was time to head back to his own cave.
His mind was already racing with plans for how he would introduce the cubs to Baji and Seishu. He would likely need their help to carry the little ones home safely.
As he left Mu Xiang’s cave, his thoughts still swirling, he began the walk back to his own. The cold air nipped at his skin, a reminder that winter was quickly approaching. His pace quickened as he imagined the moment he would finally hold the cubs in his arms and take them back to his cave.
But as he neared his home, he noticed something strange. There, standing right in front of his cave, were two figures.
A strange sense of déjà vu washed over Takemichi, as if he had experienced this moment before. Something about the way the figures stood, the way the cold wind rustled their clothes, felt eerily familiar. But that didn’t stop him. He continued walking, curiosity overriding his hesitation.
As he drew closer, the figures turned to face him, and Takemichi’s heart skipped a beat.
The two were not just anyone—they were stunningly beautiful.
One was female, the other male, and both possessed an ethereal quality that was hard to ignore.
The female caught his attention first.
She had long, straight black hair that gleamed in the fading light, and her sharp eyes—though a different color—were unmistakable.
Something about her stirred a distant memory in Takemichi’s mind. He couldn’t quite place it, but he knew he had seen her before.
Those face, that hair… they reminded him of someone he once knew.
“Mom?”
A voice broke the silence.
Takemichi looked toward the entrance of his cave.
There, standing with a stunned expression, was none other than Keisuke Baji, the tribe leader and a fierce black wolf.
His handsome, wolfish features were tense as he stared at the two visitors.
“W-what the—what are you two doing here?!”
Baji’s voice was laced with shock, his gaze darting between the strangers.
“Mom? Chifuyu?!”

༻﹡﹡Chifuyu’s POV﹡﹡༺
 Â
 Â
The air had turned noticeably colder, a clear sign that the cold season was drawing near. I let out a deep sigh, feeling the weight of exhaustion settle into my bones.
The past thirty days had been a whirlwind of travel, moving from one tribe to another for trading.
I had been gathering food, herds, animal hides, and various goods to bring back to my tribe, the Rocky Tribe.
Finally, the day had come when I was heading back home. The sight of familiar landmarks filled me with relief and joy. The tall mountain that stood sentinel over the land, the winding river where my tribe leader, Baji, and I had often gone to clean ourselves or fish—though the fish had always tasted terrible—these were the sights that reminded me of home.
I couldn’t help but smile as I approached the Rocky Tribe’s territory.
I made my way to Baji’s cave, eager to settle all the items we had acquired from our trading ventures. The main area of the tribe was abuzz with activity, as it usually was when significant events or gatherings were about to take place.
As I walked through the tribe’s area, I overheard snippets of conversation.
People were whispering about “that new male†and “that beautiful male.â€
Curiosity piqued, I wondered what they were referring to, but my immediate concern was completing my tasks.
I pushed the thoughts aside and continued my journey to Baji’s cave.
Upon arriving, I was greeted by none other than Ryoko. She looked up and immediately broke into a welcoming smile as I approached.
“Hi, Ryoko”
I said, offering her a friendly nod.
Ryoko returned the greeting, her eyes bright with curiosity.
“Oh? Chifuyu, you’re already back? I thought you wouldn’t be home for another two days. What happened?â€
She raised an eyebrow, looking around as if expecting someone or something. But her search ceased when I began to explain.
“Ah, well, with the cold season approaching, the males with partners are eager to return home. So, we sped things up after completing our trading with the last tribe.â€
I explained further, recounting the events of our journey and the reasons behind our hasty return. We chatted for a while, catching up on the latest news and events.
After a few minutes, I shifted the conversation.
“By the way, Ryoko, where’s Baji? I’ve been here for almost an hour, and I haven’t seen him yet. Is he not around?â€
My curiosity was piqued.
Baji was always one to be active and involved in the tribe’s daily activities. It was unusual for him to be absent for so long, especially since he usually went outside the tribe not just to hunt for his mother but also for the benefit of everyone in the tribe.
Given the time and the typical routine, I expected him to be back by now.
Ryoko stared at me for a moment, her eyes wide with a mixture of shock and nervousness. Something was definitely off. The way she looked at me—it was as if she was hesitating to say something important.
My mind started racing.
Had something happened while I was away?
Before I could ask or dwell on it further, Ryoko’s voice, in a motherly but serious tone, cut through my thoughts and brought me back to reality. But what she said next sent my entire world spinning.
The casualness of her answer contrasted so sharply with the gravity of what she said that it took me a moment to fully process it. I could hardly believe it.
“My cub is in his soon-to-be mate’s caveâ€
She said, as if it was the most ordinary thing in the world.
I froze.
My brain stopped working, and I just stood there, dumbfounded.
Wait… what?
Mate? Baji has a mate?
I couldn’t comprehend it.
The words “soon-to-be mate” echoed in my mind over and over again. The shock hit me like a wave, knocking me off balance.
Baji—our tribe’s leader, my best friend—had found a mate? And he was staying with them right now?
I couldn’t wrap my head around it. It felt like my entire perception of reality was crumbling. Everything I thought I knew about him, about our tribe, now seemed uncertain.
I didn’t remember much after that. It was all a blur.
The next thing I knew, Ryoko and I were standing in front of a cave. But it wasn’t just any cave. It was… different. Unique. There was something almost magical about it—clean, orderly, and well-kept in a way I’d never seen before in our tribe.
‘Who lives here?’
I wondered to myself, still trying to piece things together.
I glanced over at Ryoko, and to my surprise, she looked just as stunned as I felt. Her mouth hung open slightly, and her eyes were wide, taking in the sight of the cave in front of us.
I couldn’t help but ask..
“Umm, Ryoko… is this your first time here?â€
My voice came out shaky, my nerves getting the better of me. I could feel beads of sweat forming on my forehead.
Ryoko took a moment to snap out of her trance before nervously scratching her cheek.
“Haha, actually, y-yes… it’s my first time here too,â€
She admitted, clearly feeling just as awkward as I did.
We shared a glance, and in that moment, it was like we both understood exactly how the other was feeling. We were both standing there, caught off guard by something we couldn’t fully comprehend.
Deep down, a question burned in both our minds:
 Â
Just who is Baji’s mate?
 Â
I couldn’t contain my curiosity any longer.
“So, this is Baji’s soon-to-be mate’s cave, right?â€
I asked cautiously.
Ryoko nodded, humming softly in agreement.
“And… what’s her name?â€
I ventured, half-expecting some grand reveal of a mysterious, beautiful woman that Baji had fallen for.
My mind raced with images of what she might look like—strong, elegant, and fierce, like someone who could stand beside the tribe leader.
But Ryoko’s eyes widened again, and she suddenly facepalmed herself, startling me in the process. I panicked and rushed closer, worried she might have hurt herself somehow.
“Damn, I forgot to tell you that my cub’s mate is Takemichi—â€
She said, her voice laced with disappointment, as if she felt guilty for not mentioning it sooner.
Hmm?
Takemichi —who?
Wait…
That’s sounds oddly familiar…
 Â
Takemichi?!
 Â
The name rang in my ears like a thunderclap. My mind went blank for a moment, and then, all at once, a flood of images flashed before my eyes. Memories that felt both familiar and distant.
In my mind’s eye, I saw a breathtaking figure standing before me—pale, almost snow-like skin, with short, messy black hair that curled slightly at the ends. His presence was ethereal, otherworldly, as if he didn’t quite belong to this realm.
The moonlight bathed him in a soft glow, making him look even more striking.
The scene shifted, and I found myself standing by a lake.
It was nighttime, the stars twinkling above, and the air was cool.
A male stood by the water’s edge, the gentle waves lapping at the shore. He looked so peaceful, so at ease in that moment, as if he was part of the very night itself.
The image of him under the moonlight was seared into my mind. He stood out, even in the darkness, his beauty captivating and undeniable.
That person’s face, their aura, and their demeanor were enough to tell me they were beautiful. It wasn’t just physical beauty—it was something deeper, something almost enchanting. But what truly made them stand out were their blue eyes—eyes that seemed to hold entire worlds within them. I couldn’t even begin to describe all that those eyes held.
The only thing that came to mind was the moon—how its soft glow mirrored the brilliance of this person’s gaze. Their eyes shimmered with the same quiet, ethereal beauty.
I’d never seen anyone like this before. They were… breathtaking.
Takemichi.
The name surfaced in my mind, pulling me deeper into this strange vision. But I didn’t understand why.
And then, I heard myself speak.
My own voice startled me.
It was gentle, almost tender, as though I was addressing someone I cared for deeply.
 Â
“Partner!â€
Â
I called out, and my tone was filled with warmth and affection. It shocked me. I’d never spoken like that before—not to anyone, let alone a stranger.
Wait—was this person really a stranger?
The way I called them felt too familiar, like I had known them for years. But Partner—was that really his name? No, it didn’t feel like it. But there was something deeper, something more profound that connected us, even if I couldn’t understand it yet.
As I moved closer to this person, my heart raced. My breath caught in my throat as I saw more of them. And then, as if the veil between us lifted, I saw it—the first thing I noticed about them.
Just as I was about to fully grasp the reality in front of me, Ryoko’s voice snapped me back to the present, her words cutting through the dreamlike moment.
“—and he was a Male, not a femaleâ€
She said, her tone calm but heavy with meaning.
I blinked, jolted back to reality.
Ryoko stood in front of me, looking just as nervous and awkward as before. Her expression hadn’t changed, but I could feel the weight of her words sinking in.
Wait a damn minute… a Male?!
The revelation hit me like a lightning bolt. The person I’d been thinking about—the one with the beautiful eyes and soft aura—was a male?
I could barely keep track of how many times I’d been shocked today. It felt like my entire worldview was shifting, and I was powerless to stop it. I could barely process one revelation before another slammed into me.
I snapped back to reality, my heart pounding in my chest. Takemichi… Baji’s mate?
I couldn’t believe it. But Ryoko wouldn’t lie about something like this.
The truth of it hit me all at once, and I was left speechless.
What in the world had I missed while I was away?
But before I could ask more questions or make sense of anything, Ryoko and I both sensed a presence approaching.
Instinctively, I turned to look. Walking toward us was a male, and there was something about him—something that stirred a strange, unexplainable feeling inside me.
He looked… familiar, like I should know him, like something was pulling me toward him.
I swallowed hard, my heart racing as he got closer. Without even realizing it, Ryoko and I were mirroring each other’s expressions—both wide-eyed and unsure. But I could tell, mine was deeper, more intense.
God… he looks cute— The thought slipped into my mind unbidden, catching me off guard.
I hadn’t meant to think it, but there it was. And honestly, it wasn’t like I was lying. The male was cute—no, more than cute. He had a quiet magnetism that I couldn’t deny.
Then, before I could dwell on the thought any longer, a familiar voice rang out, cutting through the tension. I didn’t even have to turn to know who it was.
That voice was unmistakable.
“Mom?â€
The voice called, a mixture of confusion and curiosity in the tone.
The male in front of us had barely reacted to the voice, but it was clear—he recognized it too. And the fact that the only female here was Ryoko meant only one thing. The pieces clicked together in my head, confirming the truth I had been slowly realizing.
Standing in front of me was Baji’s soon-to-be-mate.
And behind him, emerging from the shadows, was Baji himself—my tribe leader, the First Division Captain of Toman, and my best friend.
Baji’s expression shifted from confusion to a mix of surprise and anger. His brows furrowed, and his eyes darted between me, Ryoko, and the male who stood beside him.
“W-what the… what are you two doing here?!â€
He exclaimed, his voice rising with irritation.
“Mom! Chifuyu?!”
He looked utterly bewildered, as if he couldn’t believe we were standing there in front of him. His gaze flicked back and forth, trying to make sense of the situation.
I could only stand there, my mind still racing, and my heart pounding.
I had so many questions—about Baji, about this mysterious male, about everything that had just happened—but in that moment, I couldn’t say a word.
I was too caught up in the storm of emotions swirling around me.

༻﹡﹡Mikey’s POV﹡﹡༺
 Â
In an unknown place, the whole outside of it are covered of snow. And there’s a cave in the middle of that area….
“Oi, Mikey, we need to go now…”
Ken-chin’s voice cut through the silence, carrying a hint of annoyance.
Hearing his words, I rose from the ground without hesitation, my body shifting smoothly into my beast form.
A winged lion.
My fur was a unique blend of three distinct colors. The dominant hue was a pale, almost white blond, spreading across most of my body. The second color, a deep, dark black, mixed seamlessly with the blond, creating an intense contrast that stood out.
The third was pure and clean white, not gray, but a pure white that highlighted certain areas—the tips of my tail, the ends of my paws, and the tufts of fur around my neck and ears.
There, on my waist, the unmistakable mark of a a Mark or tattoo, according to what takemichi called this, gleamed—a symbol of my clan, and indicating my awakening as a high-ranking beast.
As I stepped out of the cave, the cold wind bit into my skin, sending a shiver through my massive form. I ignored it, letting the chill settle into my bones. I had bigger things to worry about than the cold.
Waiting outside were the three—Ken-chin, Kokonoi, and Taiju, all in their beast forms and ready to move.
They stood there, their eyes on me, waiting for me to take the lead.
“Hmm, let’s goâ€
I commanded, my voice firm and unwavering.
I caught Taiju’s quiet “tsk” of annoyance, clearly not liking the fact that I was giving orders. I understood.
After all, Taiju wasn’t just a clan leader(not a tribe leader), he was also a gang leader—just like me. But I didn’t have time for power struggles. We had a mission, and we couldn’t afford to waste time.
Without another word, I started moving, leading the group.
It had been a week since we’d left the Rocky Tribe, and even now, I couldn’t shake the hollow feeling that had settled deep inside me. My mind wandered to Takemitchy—my little mate. I missed him more than I could express.
But I didn’t have a choice. I had to leave him behind. I had to go.
I swore to myself that I’d make this quick. The moment the cold season ended, I would head straight back to him. I’d take Takemitchy with me, back to my cave in the clan where he belonged by my side.
But for now, I had to focus on reaching our destination. We needed to move faster, as fast as possible. We were lucky that the cold season was just beginning, but once it fully set in, if we got caught out in it… we could die.
And if that happened, it wouldn’t just be my life on the line.
I’d lose my chance to see Takemitchy again, to bring him back with me, to fulfill the plans I had for us. Worse, I would have broken my promise to him.
 Â
“We’ll come back to you, I promise you that… with my life.”
 Â
Those were my words to him, spoken with all the honesty I could muster. I had vowed to keep that promise, no matter what it took.
With a heavy sigh, I pushed those thoughts aside as we began to run once more. We had a long journey ahead of us, and the clock was ticking.
