A Western Doctor’s Happy Farming Life[1] chapter 39

A+ A-

“The operations?” repeated Lin Dafu.

At the moment Song Qinghan was ready for his perfectly eloquent improvisation, he was interrupted by Lin Dafu, the one showed no interest on the certain meanings of the words, “Is that all you wish? To stay in a remote place?”

Shaking his head vigorously, Song Qinghan denied, “Of course not! That must belong to some sorts of excursion for pursuing the basic knowledge transmission. Yet, in terms of a livelihood, I prefer to stay around the towns. For one thing, it’s tranquil. And second for its convenience for daily life.”

No Frauds. Lin Dafu could clearly understand the way how Song Qinghan talked, he knew he was not lying currently, nodding thoughtfully and asking, “So tell me. From which situation will you tell a lie? Like, you’re disguising yourself in the whole conversation.”

Feeling extremely odd, Song Qinghan came to deny, saying, “I am not that kind of person who tells lies.”

Lin Dafu paused but then toughened his attitude, saying, “Suppose that you’re required to tell one. Then what will the reason be?”

That was kind of a weird and head-scratching question for Song Qinghan, for instance he was not able to answer. But for quite a long while, he replied, “If I have to tell a lie, I think that must be a lie of kindness, a more acceptable way of expression for the other party. In addition, at the prerequisite of not hurting people, while telling a lie prevailing confessing a truth, I would choose to tell a lie.”

Lin Dafu didn’t act responding immediately, nor he moved, but stared at Song Qinghan in a rather astonishing look. But at the moment he saw Song Qinghan yawning, he regain his clear head and said, “Go rest yourself.”

Mission of another half day completed! Song Qinghan felt so proud that he almost triumphed.

No matter how the rest days would suffer him, he just cheered in thinking that he would be released from this “Spiritual and Physical” Jail. Freedom awaited him.

Upon waking next morning about daylight, Song Qinghan found again a pair of bright piercing eyes just staring him aside within the bed. It was Lin Dafu who seemed to have recovered from the unceasingly eerie grief yesterday.

Luckily, being rather immune to the pitiful countenance, Song Qinghan got himself up in an unusual equanimity, asking, “So, what’s your plan today?”

Lin Dafu helped Song Qinghan put on his shoes and answered slowly, “As you wish, we’re heading to somewhere remote as you described last night!”

With a shock, Song Qinghan was totally awake from his drowsy brain, saying, “Are you SERIOUS??”

“Why? Did you tell me a lie yesterday?” answered Lin Dafu, frowning.

It could be clearly sensed that Lin Dafu was with a rage at that moment from his words full of suspicion. Song Qinghan shook his head, denying, “Of course not. But how come? No scalpel, no other basic operational tools. ”

“Tool? List them for me! I will order the servants for the purchasing!” Lin Dafu answered.

The extreme calmness shown on his face now was rather firm, as if he thought that the simple request of Song Qinghan was just not a big deal.

With such a reluctance, Song Qinghan still commenced explaining, “I’ve ordered a kit in an iron shop already. The blacksmith told me that I could got it in two weeks. It’s not the time to go since only less than one week was passed.”

“Go and get the kit back, just tell the blacksmith the one Wu Dahu ordered.” Lin Dafu turned to one of the servants and said.

The servant leaf without even asking any further detail. Song Qinghan stood there asking, “It’s impossible for them to get the kit back. The blacksmith told me within two weeks.”

A further talk is cheap. Lin Dafu seemed to have no patience to an explanation, saying, “Let’s have breakfast first. Everything will be done after the meal.”

Facing such a conceit man, Song Qinghan rolled his eyes with disdain.

Well, does money really rule the world and make the mares go? It was not that easy for the blacksmith to make that kit in such a short time. How could he just deliver the finished product today?

As they finished their breakfast, the servant came back with a delicate wooden box, a box in such a premium craftsmanship.

Staring at the box, Song Qinghan got himself astonished all of a sudden, he didn’t even dare to blink, waiting for the servant to announce.

“Young Master, the kit is here.” the servant said, bowing himself with the box in his hands.

And then he opened the wooden box, a brand-new set of scalpels showed up right away inside.

“How? Or is it true that money makes the mare go?” said Song Qinghan, eyeing up and down the kit in the servant’s hands.

Being amused by the reaction of Song Qinghan, Lin Dafu took the wooden box over, shaking his head and saying, “Nah, money isn’t that omnipotent that can make the mare go, but it can somehow bring some convenience.”

He casually picked up one of the scalpel inside the box, but then came to an puzzlement, asking, “What’s the functions for this tiny knife?”

Noticing that Lin Dafu almost touched the blade of the scalpel, Song Qinghan shouted in a flash, “Put it down! The blade of it is rather sharp, you will hurt yourself.”

Lin Dafu paused, and then carefully put down the scalpel and then delivered the whole box to Song Qinghan.

Bursting forth with a pealing exultation and joy, Song Qinghan took the box over as if he harvested a treasure. Lin Dafu confused, asking, “Have you ever use these before?”

“Of course… Never.”

Song Qinghan took a sudden pause before he almost exposed himself, and then he coughed a bit aiming to hide up the embarrassment, explaining in a far-fetched way, “I love to indulge myself into an endlessly creative imagination after the amnesia. So you know, something strange will surely occurred to me in my mind since I got no secular restrictions bundling me up which would let my mind go wild as possible. These so-called scalpel things are based on the wild imagination of mine, I never expect they will be good functionally.”

Lin Dafu had never seen such knives in those shapes, and had no ideas about their functions. But it could be inferred by the blades of them that these stuff must be something extraordinary.

Luckily, he probably could witness their usages if Song Qinghan is gonna to apply them today.

And he erupted all of a sudden, with a quite decisive expression, saying, “Let’s go now, if we are heading to the remote places, it requires us to set out as early as possible.”

Song Qinghan hesitated for a moment, asking, “can we take some high concentration liquors and gauze?”

Lin Dafu answered without hesitation, ordering to the servants, “Take two jars of high concentration liquor and two bundles of gauze in the carriage!”

Closing the wooden box carefully and carrying it in chest, Song Qinghan followed Lin Dafu up inside the carriage.

Though there probably posted a risk exposing himself for the prodigy of medical talent in front of Lin Dafu, yet as long as he shut his mouth for the matter, Lin Dafu would never be able to learn that he was just a strain of soul possessing his ex-husband’s body.

Well, in addition, the exultation of life-saving would always prevailed the risk of exposing himself.

The trip was a real excursion as Lin Dafu described. It almost took them one and a half hour to get there.

Getting off from the carriage, Song Qinghan gazed at the rather shaggy and dreary visage, he couldn’t help but exclaim, “Is this a real place for living?”

Walking further to the village, they were amazed by its desolation. There lies only ruined and worn-out shacks and shanties in adjacent out there. No one is ploughing in the field. At least they couldn’t even see anyone along the way.

It was then Lin Dafu consoled Song Qinghan, saying, “Don’t worry, there must exist someone, someone who is eager for your help.”

Song Qinghan darted a glance at him, while feeling so much regret that he overstated his wish.

It was no use since they got no medicine but just a set of scalpels.

However, Lin Dafu showed quite a confidence to Song Qinghan. Stepping forward to the village in a quick move, he didn’t even afraid that Song Qinghan would not follow up.

Getting himself in such a dilemma, Song Qinghan had no choice for the moment, he had to follow up in his equanimity behind Lin Dafu.

At the moment Song Qinghan stepped into the village, there came seemingly continual sobs and cries from the further place. Yet it was nearly noon while the sun was beaming as harsh as he could, Song Qinghan still could sense an eerie wind blown from his back, with a bitter coldness.

Following the sounds of bawling, Lin Dafu walked to a shanty with a half-opened door. But then he took a sudden pause at the moment he witnessed something inside.

Song Qinghan leaned his head out behind Lin Dafu. To his surprise, several men were lying on the ground. Song Qinghan then came to ask, “What happened to you guys?”

Among the lying men on the ground, there sat a femina male who was bawling hard. When the femina male saw Song Qinghan and Lin Dafu, he shouted all of a sudden and then hid himself with his sleeves on his face, pointing them shouting, “Who are you guys? Go away, don’t come in!”

Song Qinghan paused with a shock, he then noticed bunch of rashes on those men on the ground, asking suspiciously, “Is that urticaria?”

Lin Dafu glanced at him and asked, “How is it? Can you save them?”

From Song Qinghan’s point of view, urticaria wasn’t that kind of illness of seriousness, while bearing no lethal factors basically. So Song Qinghan nodded, but then asked again, “Is that the reason causing the desolation of this village? I mean, just because of the urticaria?”

“It’s an illness causing relapsing symptoms, no one can even end the curse. So as the time passes by, people will just long suffer from it.”

Song Qinghan tried to approach to the men, but only to be stared by their vicious and warning eyesight. He then explained, “I’m here to help you, don’t worry.”

Those men on the ground looked at each other in an incredible look, while the sobbing femina male said in squeal, “No one can save us, even Doctor Luo has no way to make that possible. How can you?”

Being informed by the news, Song Qinghan was stunned, asking, “Did Doctor Luo come before? Did he prescribe some medicine for you?”

He didn’t believe that Doctor Luo couldn’t solve this problem. After all, if this illness was treated in a Chinese traditional medical way, it should be much more easier to cure.

With a rage, that femina male erupted all of a sudden and rushed into the room, taking out a rice paper and throwing to the ground aside the feet of Song Qinghan, and then he came back to the ground, sitting.

Song Qinghan picked up the paper from the ground. He couldn’t understand the prescription, but he could definitely read the Doctor’s Advise below.

He came to know why everybody in this village showed their desperation.

No one wouldn’t collapse if they were informed that they got an illness of unknown causes.

Being an incurable was not the worst, but not knowing the certain point of the onset outbreak.

Noticing that Song Qinghan became speechless standing there, the femina male sneered, saying, “Haven’t you finished yet? As long as the prescription has no usage, keep it if you like.”

Song Qinghan shook his head, delivering the prescription back to the femina male, explaining, “I’m coming here not for the prescription, would you allow me get inside the room and take a preciser check for you?”

The femina male gritted his teeth, answering, “Don’t blame me for not warning you in advance, then I will let you check.”

Then he stood up again and went into the room.

As long as that wouldn’t cause any loss for just a check, he didn’t care whether Song Qinghan came here for his benevolence or just for his curiosity.

Probably the other rest of the people thought so, they all straightened their backs, glancing at the room and waiting for the result.

The femina male took off all his clothes, staring at Song Qinghan with no expression.

But beyond his expectation, Song Qinghan didn’t show any expression of disdain, but approached and made a careful check instead.

As Song Qinghan was totally absorbed in checking the queer rashes, the femina male came to be awkward all of a sudden, shrinking back a bit and asking, “What now? How is it?”
