A Western Doctor’s Happy Farming Life[1] chapter 83

A+ A-

Song Qinghan was without any expression on his face at all while he was demonstrating something like that. This totally freaked Doctor Shi and the servant out.

They could imagine how Song Qinghan operated, but they just couldn’t understand why.

Most importantly, such a queer action indeed saved the life of that leader boy! But HOW??

Doctor Shi pondered for a moment, probably it was because that he wasn’t a person who would bow himself or beg for something, he felt awkward when he was about to ask something. But in order to get the answer, he still came to ask while he thought he was being cheeky, “Would you please let us check out his wound?”

Song Qinghan nodded and squatted down to untie the gauze on the leader boy’s body, exposing the scar that looked like a centipede to the air.

There just only one day passed, the wound hadn’t crusted yet. The flesh, bloody flesh just made people uncomfortable, but it seemed that Doctor Shi was quite absorbed in observating it, he observed it carefully as if he was enjoying looking at an artwork.

Suddenly, something seemed to occur to him, and then he whispered, asking, “Can I take a look at your knife? The one you used for the operation.”

When Song Qinghan took out his wooden box and opened it, Doctor Shi got his eyes lit up, admiring, “That’s a good thing. Isn’t it?”

He hurriedly walked over and was about to reach out for the knife when he paused. He took out his handkerchief and carefully took out the one of the scalpels with his handkerchief covered on it.

“This arc, this shape, this is totally a treasure. Isn’t it?!”

Seeing that Doctor Shi was sort of excited with his hands shivering, Song Qinghan came to say with kindness, “If Doctor Shi really want it, I can offer you with the drawing.”

A bitter smile flashed across Doctor Shi’s face all of a sudden. He shook his head and then slowly put the scalpel back into the wooden box, signing, “I’m quite old now. I can’t even see things clearly. Such a kit will be useless for me. In addition, even if I got something like that, it will just be in vain if I can’t apply it to any scene. Right?”

He thought of something and suddenly spoke to Song Qinghan, “Are you willing to work in Huichun Shop?”

Song Qinghan was stunned standing there and then he took a glance at Little Shitou who was now sleeping like a little puppy, and then he shook his head, saying, “Sorry, I don’t think so. My son was just born and my husband is heading to the Martial Club recently. I can’t just leave him here alone!”

In fact he didn’t feel regretful after he said so. Because what he really wanted was to save people. He could save people everywhere, not just in Huichun Shop, after all.

It was only Wu Dahu who realized that he himself and the child were an encumbrance dragging Song Qinghan. He was the one who felt much guilty in mind, and then he interrupted hesitantly, “I can take Little Shitou to the Martial Club tomorrow. I am not going to practice all the time without a break, right?”

There was a fire of hope lit up in the eyes of Doctor Shi. Song Qinghan captured that, and then he answered while being both amused and annoyed, saying, “How can I allow my baby to play with a pack of grown-ups in such an environment? I definitely won’t allow that. But…”

He glanced at Yuan Wenxuan while rolling his eyes. An idea just popped up in his mind.

“This is my apprentice, I wonder if you would allow him to go to Huichun Shop?”

With an utter amazement, Doctor Shi lowered down his face and stared at the boy who was standing there calmly, he pondered for a moment and then promised cheerfully, “Fine!”

Yuan Wenxuan was still a child after all. So he just responded honestly, “I am capable of doing nothing but being hardworking.”

Doctor Shi then smiled big all of a sudden. The whole figure of him delivered a grand temperament as an elegant and sophisticated old man.

“Diligence is already enough though, lots of people out there fail to be like that.”

Hearing that, Yuan Wenxuan was finally released from his high-tension nerve. An apparent cheerfulness just showed up on his calm face.

He never expected that the most famous medical shop would just accept him so easily since he had resorted any means to get in. Well, he would be so energetic even if he had to do something heavy as an assistant as long as he was inside the Huichun Shop. Moreover, he would only respect Song Qinghan as his only one Master, this term to the Huichun Shop should be an action like “Steal Like An Artist”.

On the other side, the servant brought by Doctor Shi just pouted his lips there, looking a little unhappy, but he didn’t say anything since he had to consider the situation of Doctor Shi.

Since Doctor Shi was so straightforward, Song Qinghan then responded decisively, “Although I can’t make it to go to the Huichun Shop myself, if you got some other patients like that leader boy, please just ask my apprentice to come back and get me informed. Probably I might find out some other methods.”

Doctor Shi thought so, but since Song Qinghan took the initiative, he was much cheerful in his mind, nodding while saying, “Alright, alright then. Oh by the way, if those bastards dare to harass you again, just tell them that you’re protected by Huichun Shop. If they don’t even listen to you, come and get me informed. I will give them some punishments.”

Hearing that, Song Qinghan felt much grateful while being quite humble and bowing himself to Doctor Shi. And then he escorted Doctor Shi to the gate of the lodge and then eyed them leaving.

All the rest of members of the acrobatic team were waiting outside the lodge, and it was not until they caught a sight of Song Qinghan did they start rumbling and rushing over, all of them were putting on a expression of guilt, “It’s our fault to get you in such a trouble, Doctor…”

Song Qinghan shook his head, explaining, “Didn’t you hear what the villains said? Even if we handed your brother over to them, they will keep troubling us. So none of you should be blamed at all.”

However, it was also an unexpected pleasure to let Yuan Wenxuan go to the Huichun Shop to study. In Song Qinghan’s long-term plan, he would hope that Yuan Wenxuan would acquire knowledge of Chinese traditional medicine after he got a solid foundation of western medicine structure. In this case, two ways of thinking (oriental and western) would be both involved when he could finally make diagnosis to people. And in addition, he could resort more ways to handle a troublesome problem.

Considering that they themselves had just moved out from the lodge, Song Qinghan spoke to the members of the acrobatic team, saying, “We’ve paid this room for one month, and you don’t have to be hurried to leave here. It would be better for you if you can some jobs around, but you can’t, then maybe you should try your fortunes in nearby villages or towns. You can leave one here to take care of your big brother. He will be fine within one month.”

Right at the moment, these boys probably had regarded Song Qinghan as a Buddha alive, they never expected that Song Qinghan would be someone with such a kindness. They then expressed the gratitude to Song Qinghan while promising that they would surely reciprocate his kindness one day in the future.

Song Qinghan didn’t respond. He didn’t care about something like reciprocating. As long as the boys could escape from those villains and survive, he would think that everything was worth a shot.

Song Qinghan didn’t stay long after their conversation, he just went back to their new house with Wu Dahu, Little Shitou and Yuan Wenxuan.

Yuan Wenxuan couldn’t help but show a face of excitement when he was standing right in the center of the yard. It could be clearly seen from his expression that this boy was quite satisfied with what he saw.

This house was quite big, after all. It meant that he could do anything without even bothering Song Qinghan and Wu Dahu, no matter how late he learned at night or how early he woke up in the morning.

The good habit of getting up so early in the mornings was a principle taught by Song Qinghan. The reason he used was quite simple though. He told Yuan Wenxuan that only he got a good health could he live longer and save more people.

And as for Yuan Wenxuan, nothing ever beat the life which allowed him to save more people out of danger and the suffering from illness. Such a scenario was way better than any exhortation. So he had been keeping this habit for a long time now, sometimes he just did some physical exercises, and sometimes he just jogged in the yard. But he didn’t jog that in considering others’ sleep.

Little Shitou was smiling there as always, yet he wasn’t aware that he had moved to a new place. He stretched forth his arms showing all his eagerness to touch everything and mumbled something with his mouth when he saw the group of koi fish swimming right in the pond.

The four of them were all exhausted after a fully-occupying day. Since everything was well-set, they all sank into their dreams as soon as they got into bed.

The next morning, when Wu Dahu got up and was ready to cook, something seemed to occur to him all of a sudden. And when Song Qinghan woke up from his dream, Wu Dahu approached while suggesting, “Should we purchase a servant here? He can take care of you.”

As a modern man with modern thoughts, Song Qinghan would think that it would be kind of queer and uncomfortable to get a stranger aside to take care of him every single day. So he just showed his opposition against Wu Dahu’s suggestion, saying, “That’s unnecessary, we don’t have overloaded things which we can’t handle. I can do it myself.”

Noticing the serious face of Song Qinghan, Wu Dahu nodded and did not mention it any more.

Breakfast finished. They sent Yuan Wenxuan to the Huichun Shop, and only when they saw Doctor Shi came out and held the boy’s hand entering inside did they set their mind at ease.

After they had a stable foothold, they should consider re-starting their previous business.

Although the vines of monk fruit and seasoning seeds brought from the village had been planted in their yard, it still took a long time for them to grow and produce fruits in the end.

So they just gazed at the mountain near the provincial capital. Without a second thought, they both reached an agreement and then headed out with tools while carrying Little Shitou on Wu Dahu’s back.

Although the provincial capital was located on a huge plain, it was surrounded by continuous and rolling mountains. The mountains were standing there with their peaks mist-shrouded. Well, probably those celestial beings were all living there if there existed one.

Wu Dahu, as an innate hunter with various hunting experiences, still kept his calmness on his face, he was so sophisticated that he could recognize the safest route at once as if he had been here before. As a confident leader, he led the way before Song Qinghan while holding his hand.

“Hey! Aren’t they lemons?”

Song Qinghan shouted when he noticed the yellowish green fruits hanging in the distance.

Wu Dahu glanced at them, and then responded plainly, saying, “These fruits are kind of sour, they aren’t able to sweeten no matter how long you store them. If you want some fruits of that similar flavor, I will buy some tangerines for you.”

After that, he continued to explain as if he wished to prove the truth, saying, “See that? No even an animal is going to eat them. That’s why they are still fruitful lingering there.”

Song Qinghan rushed to the tree directly with an emotional combination of amusement and anxiety, and then he picked one of the fruits and sniffed it around his nose. After confirming that it was a real lemon, he raised the corner of his lips, saying, “Of course you can’t eat this stuff directly. It’s super sour!”

Wu Dahu was stunned but then he remembered everything about processing work of monk fruits, and then he asked hesitatingly, “So… Is that used for infused water, or infused wine?”

Just as he thought of the fact how this so-called lemon thing would be infused, he just frowned as harsh as he could. He wrinkled his face in recalling the strong flavor of lemon.

Noticing the amusing face he had never seen on Wu Dahu, Song Qinghan couldn’t help but laugh and then placed one of his hand on his back, explaining proudly, “These lemon should be cut into pieces and then we can put them under the sun for basking. With the dried lemon pieces, you can infuse them with warm water and add some sugars in it. That will be a wonderful drink for enhancing one’s beauty. And moreover, it also can be used as an additive for getting rid of the fishy smell from the meat while cooking. It’s really a good stuff.”

Looking at Song Qinghan who was now seemingly flattering himself, Wu Dahu was much happier than any moment he harvested with bunch of prey, he looked at Song Qinghan while smiling indulgently and saying, “Alright then, let’s pick them all back!”
