Aiden’s knee jerk reaction was the same as when Lucas had asked to be just friends. He had to force his jaw shut to stop an immediate agreement with Lucas, just to get this over with. Lucas was lying next to him. He wasn’t saying it in an accusatory manner.

“And just in case you’re worried, it’s not because we had a spat just now. I don’t mind that at all.” Lucas continued speaking, his breath whispering against the back of Aiden’s neck in a hushed tone. “You were upset. Really, really upset. And you felt really bad just because we kissed?”

Aiden bit his lip. “I was drunk Lucas, and not exactly thinking straight.”

“Drunk or not I made you feel terrible.”

“Lucas.” Aiden sighed. The guilt in Lucas’s voice was making him feel guilty. “It wasn’t because of anything you did.”

“You’re just saying that to make me feel better.”

“I’m really not.” He rolled over in Lucas’s arms, and fixed his gaze on him. It was dim, but he could make out a frown sinking Lucas’s lips, and the creases in his brow. “I get the being friends thing. Despite what I said a little while ago, I do understand.”

“You were acting as if I’d called it quits.”

“I was drunk, tired and feeling a little rejected, so there were some very negative thoughts knocking around.” His lungs felt tighter as he shared his real thoughts with Lucas, “Sober me knows I was being ridiculous.”

Lucas was quiet long enough to make him start to shake with nerves. “Why did you feel rejected at all?”

“You were all tense. It wasn’t fair to kiss you in front of so many people, and I’m not upset now, so it’s fine. Don’t feel bad, seriously. I was just having a moment.”

“Don’t call it that. It wasn’t a ‘moment’. We kissed, and then you threw up.”

“Don’t say it like that” Aiden huffed, “I was throwing up no matter what happened. It wasn’t because of that. Stop blaming yourself.”

Lucas was quiet. His silence didn’t exactly scream ‘I’m not blaming myself’. “Why isn’t it working here? Everything was going fine at the camping site.”

“There were less people. We didn’t have to worry about anyone except us. The only people there were okay with it.”

Even the dark, Aiden could see Lucas unhappy with his answer. “Other people worry you that much? You know it’s not – uh, well it’s not looked down on nowadays. Well, I mean, I’m sure some people don’t like it, and it’s not something you see every day, but it’s okay.”

Aiden pressed his lips tightly together. This subject was what had been making him second guess his attraction to Lucas more than anything else. It was enough to make that excitement in his stomach turn to fear. “I don’t know.”

“You don’t know what?” Lucas asked softly.

“You’ve known you liked guys for a while. I haven’t. I haven’t had time to get my head around it. And I know that it’s okay. But knowing something and feeling it are kind of different things.”

“I guess that kind of thing already bothered you. Where we live doesn’t help either. Everyone knowing everything about each other.”

“Yeah.”

“I’m sorry for flipping out at you.”

“I don’t remember anything after throwing up, so it’s fine.”

“I mean at your house. It was more than just you doubting me. It wasn’t fair to get mad at you for being anxious.” Lucas took in a heavy breath, “I’m worried too, you know? But more about scaring you off or holding myself back from doing things very inappropriate in public.”

Aiden’s lips twitched at the last part. “What inappropriate things are you holding yourself back from?”

“You may have pulled away because of the crowd, but I wasn’t tensed up because I was worried about them.”

“You’re not serious.”

“Very serious.” Lucas said in a light-hearted tone, “And I’m glad that I held back now, because I don’t think you have liked doing anything more in front of that crowd.”

“Depends. What exactly were you planning?”

Lucas scooted closer to him, and Aiden could discern a grin. “You want to know?”

“You could show me.”

Lucas chuckled, but the grin faded for a moment. Before Aiden could question it, lips pressed against his. It was a gentle touch, more of a caress than a real kiss.

“Yeah. That’s so much worse than just kissing in public.” Aiden remarked. He found he couldn’t put much energy into his sarcasm, and hoped that Lucas didn’t think he’d just criticized him.

Lucas let out a light breath. He kissed Aiden’s cheek and then his temple. “I’ve been crazy anxious you know. I spent the whole week picking out what clothes to bring.”

Aiden found himself smiling in the dark. He was glad Lucas was too busy tracing kisses over his jaw to see it. “Couldn’t choose between your soccer jersey or the rugby one?”

“They’re nice tops.” Lucas said defensively.

Aiden laughed. Lucas had brought both, the same he’d taken to the cabins. “Very fashionable.”

Lucas nipped his throat. “You’re supposed to get turned on, not laugh harder.”

Aiden’s cheeks hurt he was smiling so wide. He really liked the grumble in Lucas’s voice. “Maybe you need to try a bit harder then?”

Lucas rolled on top of Aiden, propping his weight up on one elbow and caressing his chest with his free hand. “Maybe I will.”

Aiden swallowed hard. He kept his breathing level as Lucas kissed a trail over his collarbone, but something about teeth grating against the crook of his neck made him shiver. He closed his eyes and tried to contain his raging heartbeat, and Lucas paid special attention to the spot. Lucas’s cheek brushed against his neck, and his hair tickled underneath Aiden’s ear.

Lucas toyed with the crook of Aiden’s knee, pressing it against the outside of his thigh, before gently tipping his hips forward. Aiden gripped Lucas’s shoulder tightly, and their bodies moved slowly against each other.

Lucas pressed his mouth against Aiden’s ear. “How am I doing now?” His voice was husky.

“A bit better.” Aiden got out in a trembling voice.

Lucas grumbled and nipped his ear. It stung a little.

Aiden traced from Lucas’s shoulder, up the line of his neck and into his hair. He nudged Lucas’s head away, so he could speak against his ear too. “A little harder?” He suggested, before gently nipping Lucas back. He tasted a little like sweat and minty aftershave, and Aiden could feel his pulse racing underneath his skin.

Lucas shuddered. He gripped Aiden’s jaw, and captured his lips in a rough kiss. His lips were pressed apart as Lucas’s tongue pushed urgently into his mouth. Their tongue’s meshed together, electrifying Aiden’s nerves, and the heat in his body skyrocketed.

Aiden’s voice was muffled by Lucas when he tried to say his name.

Lucas straightened suddenly and ripped his shirt from his torso, tossing it aside. Aiden took in a ragged breath. The air was stagnant and humid, and brought him no relief. “Lucas-“

The space between them was reduced once more and their bodies fused together on a now-creaking mattress. He let himself get swept up in the intoxicating sensations shooting through his body, and drowned in the even more alluring sound of Lucas panting, but with each thrust discomfort grew alongside the heat.

Aiden pushed on Lucas’s shoulders, and he complied in rolling onto his back. He sat on his waist and felt bad as he listened to Lucas’s heaving breaths. His own struggle to breathe was even more audible, but the problem was that he was seriously struggling to breathe at all.

“I’m sorry Lucas.” Aiden wheezed, “I don’t think I can tonight.”

“What’s wrong?” Lucas caressed his sides.

“My stomach hurts.”

Lucas stiffened. “fuck, Aiden I’m –”

“Don’t, don’t say sorry it’s okay.” Aiden bit his bottom lip hard. His skin tasted like salt and sweat. “And that was definitely okay with me, just not tonight. We can do it when I’m recovered.”

Lucas was propped up on his elbows. He was hesitating, as if unsure as to what to say next.

“Uh, I mean, we don’t have to do it when I’m –”

“No!” Lucas squeaked. He coughed and sat up fully, letting Aiden fall back and sit on his thighs. “That’s not why I was quiet. I was trying not to say sorry. I definitely want to keep going.” His voice was wistful. “Not now, of course. I’m sor- uh, I may have lost my coolness for a bit there. I’m sor- ah, um,”

“Lucas.”

“I’m sorry for not noticing you felt sick.” Lucas got out with a sigh, “I’ll be more careful next time.”

Aiden didn’t think he needed to be careful. “Hm. Okay. I’m not able to tonight, but I can still help with you.” He scooted down Lucas’s thighs, and was immediately grabbed.

“Absolutely not.”

“But you’re still-“

“Nope. Not until we both can.” Lucas said firmly.

Aiden rested his forehead against Lucas’s bare shoulder. His tone hadn’t left any room for argument. “Okay.” He tilted his face and brushed his lips against Lucas’s neck.

“Aiden” Lucas grumbled, “I will pin you down.”

“I can’t tell if you mean that as a way to stop me or to enjoy yourself.”

“Aiden.”

Aiden chuckled, but pulled back. “I’m just teasing.”

“Trust me, I know.” Lucas said in a voice that almost sounded like a sulk. “Now get on your back.”

“Oh! Yes sir.”

The second of silence was broken by the both of them laughing. Aiden eventually lay back down underneath the covers, completely drained and fading from consciousness.

“You didn’t even hesitate before answering.” Lucas chuckled.

“Bossing me around seemed to come pretty naturally to you too.”

“You always tell me what to do. I had to turn the tables.”

“Always?”

“‘Set up the tent Lucas’, ‘Walk faster Lucas’, ‘Don’t touch the squirrel Lucas'” Lucas said roughly.

“‘Don’t eat the poison berries Lucas.’, ‘Don’t burn down the forest Lucas”” Aiden continued “aka my job, genius.”

“Whatever.” Lucas said with humour in his voice.

“Go to sleep.” Aiden’s cheeks hurt from smiling.

“You go to sleep. I’m busy.”

“Busy? Oh you’re doing it after all.”

Lucas let out a squeak and grabbed Aiden’s wrist before he touched him, “I’m not!”

“You do that a lot.”

“I said I’m not.”

“Squeak like that.”

“I don’t. Shush. Go to sleep Aiden. You’re delirious.”

“You-”

Lucas silenced him with a kiss, and then with a threat. “Don’t make me gag you.”

Aiden smiled. “What do you want me to gag on?”

“That’s it.” Lucas flipped Aiden over and buried his face in the pillows. He didn’t push down hard enough to make breathing hard, but Aiden was laughing too much to talk anyway.
