On Tuesday Kai and Nicolas went back to school and Kai was still high on his happiness. He just couldn’t stop smiling and bouncing around. Nicolas, too was over the moon that he finally gets to kiss and hug Kai whenever he wanted.
Or so he thought.
When they went back to school he had to keep his hands to himself. He knew how Kai felt with people staring and he would never do anything to make Kai feel uncomfortable.
And so he walked Kai to homeroom keeping his clenched hands in his pocket. When they stopped near the door Nicolas wanted to bend down and kiss his lips but instead he smiled and ruffled his hair. “Go on, I’ll see you soon.”
“Bye!” Kai said with a smile and entered the classroom.
When Kai walked in he immediately met the eyes of Noelle who was grinning at him with excitement. As soon as he was close enough she basically jumped him and he laughed. He wrapped his arms around her to prevent them from toppling over and glanced at Arthur warily, not wanting to offend him but the boy only smiled at him.
Kai let go of Noelle and sat down, trying to ignore everyone who turned to them at the commotion and instead grinned back at her.
“I’m so fucking happy for you Kai! Arthur told me all about the date!!” She whispered-shouted and he blushed.
He had forgotten that Rex and Arthur had helped Nicolas to plan the dinner. He wondered when Nicolas told them and then he realized that means that Arthur now knows about him too.
“Arthur.” He whispered, catching the attention of the blond boy.
“W-when did you find out?” He asked biting his lip in nervousness.
“Kai.” Arthur started off softly, “I always knew about Nicolas’s feelings. He told me about the date and I’m nothing but happy for you guys. Nicolas is like my best friend too and I’ve been waiting for this to happen just like he was.”
“Ohh…” Kai said. He knew. How come everyone knew about Nicolas liking him but him? Why didn’t he figure it out sooner? Why was he so stupid?
“You okay?” Noelle bumped his shoulder and he smiled and nodded before turning around to face the teacher.
He hated himself for making Nicolas wait so long but he knew that now they were together he would do everything to make it up to him. He was going to make the wait worth it.

When it was lunch they decided to eat at the pizzeria instead of the cafeteria. It was just Kai and Nicolas and as they walked in they saw that the place was practically full.
Luckily they found a spare booth and Nic made Kai sit down saying he was going to go order, seeing as there was also a waitress missing and they had to order at the front and wait for it to be ready.
Kai took off his jacket and got comfortable, getting his phone out to play games while he waited.
“Omg did you see Kaylee and Rosalina?” He heard a girl say from the booth behind him. He didn’t mean to eavesdrop but they were talking so loudly that it was hard not to hear.
“Yeah! That was just…disgusting!” He heard a guy’s voice say and he frowned, what was disgusting?
“Yeah they were kissing! In the hallway! Two girls like that, they should be ashamed.” A third voice added and Kai’s heart dropped.
Why were they saying such mean things?
“Right! It’s just not okay to do that. If they want to do those shameful acts at least do it where no one can see.” The girl voiced out and Kai gripped his phone tighter.
“Exactly. No one wants to see that anyways. It’s not normal. Two girls or two boys together.” The boy said.
“You guys are fucking losers.”
His eyes widened when he heard another voice say that in anger and he turned around slightly so he could see their table.
There was a small brunette girl sitting, and next to her was a raven haired boy with his arms wrapped around her. He figured those two were the one who were saying all of those..things.
On the order side there was another boy this one shorter and skinner with with red hair and he was probably the third voice. Next to him was a girl who was glaring at them heatedly. She had tanned skin and short hair that came up to her shoulders, they were pink and very pretty, Kai noticed.
“What do you mean we’re losers?” The red haired boy said turning to her with equal anger.
“I’ve been trying to ignore all the bullshit coming out of your mouth but I just can’t handle it. If someone is disgusting then it’s you, you fucking immature brats.” She spat crushing the empty can of sofa in her hand.
“All we said was true!” The brunette argued.
“There was literally nothing wrong with what they were doing and yet here you guys are talking behind their backs because you’re too much of a coward to voice out your opinion to others, because you know very well it is complete and utter bullshit.” She grounded out staring straight at the brunette making her flinch and cower away into her boyfriend, Kai assumed.
“What is it you anyways?” The raven haired boy bit out. “We were just saying that it’s not natural. Only a guy and a girl should be together, that’s nature and it should have always been that way.”
She got up and threw the crushed can at his head. “What’s it to me? I’m bisexual you dick and I have a gorgeous girl I’m planning on kissing the fuck out of when I get home.”
The three of them gasped and watched as she walked out of the small restaurant with wide eyes.
“What a bitch.” The blond boy muttered. “She’s gonna be the one in hell and then let’s see what she will have to say”
Kai’s head was spinning and he was feeling so overwhelmed that he couldn’t breath anymore. He couldn’t stop thinking about their words and got up to run to the bathroom. Once he entered the empty room which was surprising considering the place was filled he went and washed his face with cold water and took deep breaths.
He looked up at the mirror and blinked back the tears. Why was he feeling this way? He felt so scared now. What if people talk about him and Nicolas after they find out about them?
Would they also say that it wasn’t normal? That they would go to hell? That them being together is not okay?
He just couldn’t believe that there are still people like this. Why are people still so judgemental. Why couldn’t they just let us live?
It’s not natural
It’s not normal. Two girls or two boys together.
That was just…disgusting!
He took a deep breath to calm himself and shook his head to get rid of those thoughts. It doesn’t matter. He knows. He knows there’s nothing wrong with him and Nicolas being together.
They cared for each other and had every right to be together just like everyone else.
Despite the amounts of times he told himself that he just couldn’t get the look of their eyes filled with hate and disgust and their words that left him uneasy.
“Oh thank god!” He turned around and faced Nicolas who was looking at him with a worried frown.
“I was looking for you.” He said coming over to hug the smaller boy.
“Are you okay baby.” He said cupping Kai’s wet, cold face.
“Yeah.. just needed to wash my hands before eating.” Kai gave Nicolas a small smile.
“Come on, let’s go eat.” Nicolas said grabbing Kai’s hand and leading him outside but right before they left the bathroom Kai slid his hand out of Nicolas’s hand and looked down at his feet.
Nicolas frowned at the action but he figured it was because the place was packed and Kai still didn’t feel comfortable.
Kai felt guilty and ashamed of himself. Just today he had told himself he was going to make it up to Nicolas and yet here he was, not letting him even hold his hand.
He was the worst.
