The next morning Kai woke up bright and early at 7 am. He hurriedly took a shower, freshened up and got dressed in a simple white hoodie and black sweats.
He went downstairs and shoved a huge cookie for breakfast down his throat before getting his dad’s keys and leaving the house.
There was still no response from Nicolas and now Kai definitely knew that something was wrong. He just hoped it’s nothing too bad. He clenched the steering wheel, his nerves growing as he reached closer and closer to Nicolas’s house.
When he arrived and he searched for the spare key that Nic always leaves for him under the plant sitting on his porch he realized it was gone.
When he rang the doorbell, he hoped that Luciana left for her business trip as planned because he did not want to see her.
But when the door opened it wasn’t Luciana who answered.
It wasn’t Nicolas either.
Instead it was their maid, Eleanor.
“Miss Eleanor?” Kai tilted his head in confusion as he stared at the middle aged woman who stared at him with wide eyes.
“Kai? W-what are you doing here?” She asked in shock and he furrowed his brows.
“I’m here to see Nicolas. Is he sleeping?” Kai asked and the lady’s face dropped.
She covered her mouth with her palm and stared at Kai with a look filled with..pity.
Kai’s gut clenched and an uncomfortable feeling started brewing in his tummy.
“M-miss Eleanor? Where is Nicolas?” He asked shakily.
“Kai…he’s gone.” She answered.
“Gone? Where? Where is he?!” Kai demanded, his voice raising.
“Miss Martinez and Nicolas have left for New York yesterday. D-did you not know?” She asked and Kai’s eyes widened in shock.
“New York? Why? When are they coming back?” He asked hurriedly clutching the door as his legs started to feel weaker.
“They’re..not.” She said grimly and he shot his eyes at her.
“W-what?”
“They took all their stuff. Luciana said she has plans for Nicolas there. She- she said his future would be better there.”
Them getting together would be the best thing to happen to us in the business world.
I’m doing this for his own good. Him and Angelica is what should be.

Kai pushed past Eleanor and rushed to Nicolas’s room. When he opened the door the room was empty. There was nothing left. The bed was ridden of sheets, all of his books were gone from his bookshelf and the pictures that sat there were also gone.
Everything was gone.
He opened the closet and all his clothes were gone. All except one sweater. When Kai grabbed it with shaky hands he realized it was the elf sweater he had bought Nicolas.
“N-no.” Kai whispered his eyes filling with tears as his body fell on the bed as he clutched the sweater.
He was gone.
Gone without a single word. He left him.
Luciana forced him. Kai told himself. She forced him to leave him.
“Why?” Kai cried as he threw the sweater and clutched at his chest through his shirt.
“N-Nicolas” Kai cried, his body shaking as sobs wracked his body. “C-come back.”
Kai sat on the same bed that he and Nicolas would lay cuddling for hours and he broke. His body shook with cries as burning tears fell from his eyes, his hand still clutching his chest.
“I-It hurts.” He cried.
The pain must have come in waves, minutes of sobbing broken apart by short pauses for recovering breaths, before hurling him back into the outstretched arms of his pain.
He burried his face into the mattress and let out a scream, a scream full of pain and anger that left his throat sore.
He laid there for minutes, or maybe it had already been an hour as he tried to figure out what just happened.
This was not what was suppose to happen.
He was suppose to come here and tell Nicolas he loved him before hugging him and then everything would have been fine.
But no. He came here only to find out that he left. And there was no way of contacting him. His phone unresponsive and Kai knew no one else who could help him.
He got up and searched for his phone, and tried to call Luciana. But as expected the call rang and no one answered. The second time he called she cut his call.
Kai had always felt some bitterness towards the woman, after all she neglected and made the most important person in his life feel like he wasn’t enough.
But now, he didn’t only feel bitterness he felt pure hatred for her. How could she do this? To her own son?
His phone ringtone broke him from his thoughts and when he saw the contact he hurriedly answered.
“Rex!” He exclaimed. Of course! Rex met Nicolas in New York. Rex could help him.
“Kai! Nicolas’s mother took him away.” Rex exclaimed as soon as he heard the boys voice.
“I know and we need to get him back.” Kai said sitting up and grabbing the sweater he threw.
“Where are you?” Rex asked and Kai could hear the engine of his car.
“I’m at his house.” Kai answered.
“I’m coming to meet you there. Stay where you are, okay?” He said and Kai agreed.
He rushed downstairs and didn’t bother to say goodbye to Eleanor, too embarrassed to face her. She had probably heard him cry and scream in Nicolas’s room.
He waited outside and in a matter of ten minutes he saw Rex pull over. He rushed to him and asked, “how did you know Nicolas is gone? Did you contact him?”
“Come on. We’re going to my house where I can explain it to you.” Rex said.
“I need to drop off my dad’s car at my house.” Kai said and Rex nodded.
So they drove separately to Kai’s house and when Kai dropped the keys on his kitchen counter he was glad his parents were still sleeping, he did not want his mom asking him questions.
He went back out and sat in the passenger seat of Rex’s car.
“Can you tell me now?” Kai asked, too impatient to wait.
“Remember when me and Nicolas were talking about his mom and my dad possibly having a thing?” Rex asked and Kai scrunched up his face.
“It’s true. Well somewhat true. Anyways my dad was talking to her and I heard them. He was upset that she took off like that but she said she’s been planing it for awhile and that Nicolas knew about it.” Rex said and Kai’s eyes widened as he shook his head.
“She’s lying.” Kai said firmly, he refused to believe that Nicolas knew about it and didn’t tell him.
“She is. There’s no way Nicolas would have kept something like this from you.” Rex nodded.
“Why are we going to your house?” Kai asked confusedly.
“We’re going so we can tell my dad the truth.” Rex said and Kai frowned in confusion.
“How’s that gonna help?” He asked.
“Because Kai my dad is rich.” Rex said turning to smile at Kai, “meaning he will fly us out to New York.”
“W-what? Really?” Kai asked with wide eyes and Rex smiled with nod.
“Really. We’re going to go get Nicolas.”
