Luciana walked towards them with confidence in her stride and while Kai uncomfortably shifted on his feet Nicolas gave her a hard stare.
“What are you doing here mom?” He asked tightly.
“I came to talk to you.” She said and they both frowned at her.
Talk? She wanted to talk? Hadn’t she talked enough as it is?
“Why?” Nicolas asked.
“May I speak to you alone?” She asked, shifting her gaze to look at Kai who stared back at her with what could be considered a glare.
“Baby.” Kai looked up to Nicolas who was giving him a small reassuring smile. “Will you wait for me in my room?”
Kai nodded despite his frown and lent up to leave a small kiss on his boyfriend’s jaw, ignoring Luciana’s hard stare on them. “I love you.”
Nicolas felt himself lose some of the tension at the words and he gave Kai the softest smile, conveying the message that he loved him too.
Kai left the mother and son alone while he made his way to Nicolas’s room.
Once Kai was out of sight Nicolas returned his attention to his mother and stared at her, not knowing how to feel. Her words and her actions had hurt him deeply and he still couldn’t believe that she went that far. She tried to take everything he loved away from him and now she was standing here again in front of him asking to talk?
“What is it you wanted to say?” Nicolas asked as he sat down on the couch and she did the same on the opposite one.
“I wanted to apologize.” She said and Nicolas looked up at her with wide eyes, not expecting that at all.
“For what?” He asked.
“For being a horrible mother. For forcing you to do those things. For not understanding the bond between you and Kai.” She said and Nicolas furrowed his brows at her.
“Why now? After everything you did, you’re now realizing what you did?” He asked.
“I..I always knew that what I was doing was wrong but I ignored it. I ignored all the warnings that rang through my head. I ignored Alex when he tried to help me get better. I ignored your pleas for me to let you be. I just ignored everything because I wanted you to have a good life. I wanted you to follow your father’s footsteps.” She explained and again he looked at her with confusion.
“What do you mean?” He demanded.
“Your father and I got married through a business deal as well. But we fell in love and we were so so happy together. But then everything fell apart. I just..I just wanted you to be able to have the life that we couldn’t complete.” She explained but Nicolas gave her an incredulous look.
“I can have that life with Kai. I can be happy with Kai. I don’t need some kind of business marriage deal for me to be happy. That is ridiculous.” He exclaimed.
“No- that’s not the only thing. You’re supposed to take over the hotel chains and that deal would have been very beneficial as well! I just wanted the best for you.” She tried to make up for it but Nicolas had heard enough.
“Look.” He sighed. “I think you need to learn a thing or two mom. Life isn’t a business deal, my life isn’t like that and I want you to stop treating it like it is!
If you want me to, I will continue my studies to take over the business because I know that’s what dad would have wanted. That’s what I want as well but I’m not going to engage in any kind of business deal that you want.” He said and she nodded immediately.
“I also want you to stay away from me for the time being.” He said and she frowned and opened her mouth to protest but he stopped her.
“I don’t want you around me right now. I’m happy here with Kai and I just want a few moments of peace. Can’t I have that?” He pleaded.
“Okay.” She whispered.
She got up and reached for her handbag where she took out a small wrapped box. “Here, it’s your birthday gift.”
Nicolas hesitantly took the box from her hand.
“Thanks.”
“I’m going to be going then.” She said with sadness and he nodded.
“I’ll see you out.” He said as he grabbed her suitcase and walked her out to the car.
It was a bit ridiculous for him to be kicking his mother out of her own house but it’s not like she even lived here in the first place.
As he put her suitcase in the trunk she walked towards him.
“I’m really sorry Nicolas.” She said and he stiffly nodded at her before walking back into the house and shutting the door behind him.
He grabbed the gift and went upstairs to join his angel. When he walked in Kai was pacing around the room and as soon as the door opened him he crashed in his arms.
“Are you okay? Did she say something mean? Is she still here? Do you need something?” He shot question after question while still hugging Nic.
“I’m okay, love and she left.” Nicolas replied while picking Kai up by the hips and walking over to the bed to sit him down.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Kai asked.
“She just apologized and tried to explain herself but it didn’t make much sense. I told her to leave us alone.” Nicolas explained sitting down next to him.
Kai moved back and laid on his back but opened his arms for Nicolas.
“Come here.” He motioned for him to come and Nicolas smiled.
He crawled closer and Kai spread his legs so Nicolas laid sprawled in between them with his head resting on Kai’s stomach and his arms winded around his waist. Kai ran his hand through his hair and gently massaged his scalp making Nicolas hum in content.
“What’s that?” Kai said, grabbing the small box next to them.
“My mom gave it to me for my birthday.” He murmured.
“Wanna open it?” Kai asked and Nicolas shrugged.
“Can you?” He requested and Kia softly smiled with a nod.
He carefully unwrapped the box and then he took out a silver dog tag necklace with a picture and he smiled as he gave it to Nicolas who he could tell was nervous.
As Nicolas grabbed the necklace his heart grew heavy when he stared at the picture of him and his dad. They were both smiling widely while his dad was tightly holding him.
“Do you wanna wear it?” Kai asked.
“M-maybe later.” Nicolas said, giving him back the necklace and Kai nodded putting it back.
“Why don’t you take a nap yeah?” Kai said and Nicolas nodded burying his face in Kai’s stomach.

“I don’t think this is a good idea.” Kai whispered loudly while his friend hushed him.
“It is.” Arthur said.
It was 11:55 at night and they were slowly creeping their way up the stairs into Nicolas’s room while all the lights were off and Nicolas himself was dead asleep.
It was his birthday in five minutes and Arthur had the brilliant idea to surprise him by going to his room at midnight and shooting loud party poppers while screaming happy birthday.
When Arthur had first suggested it that day at school Kai thought it was brilliant but now he wasn’t so sure anymore.
As they stopped in front of Nicolas’s door Kai grabbed Arthur’s arm.
“I’ll do the party poppers and you scream okay?” He whispered and Arthur nodded.
They slowly opened the door and looked inside to where Nicolas was spread in the middle of the bed, shirtless and softly snoring.
Kai smiled at how adorable he was while sleeping while Arthur made a face of disgust at his expression.
“Okay go near his face so he can hear you.” Kai whispered, pushing him towards the bed with a smile, knowing exactly what would happen.
“Um okay.” Arthur whispered back, him too getting a bit nervous now.
As he walked near Nicolas after making sure it was officially midnight Kai started counting down from 3.
As he reached one Arthur lent down so his mouth was near Nicolas’s ear.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” He shouted just as Kai twisted the party pooper making it resonate a loud sound and shoot confetti.
Nicolas woke up with a shout and slapped his hand right across Arthur’s cheek making the boy yelp and fall to the floor while clutching his cheek.
“What the…” Nicolas muttered staring at Arthur on the ground and then on the confetti on his bed.
“Happy birthday!” Kai laughed as he jumped on the bed and hugged Nicolas.
“Baby?” Nicolas mumbled, still dazed and shocked.
“Yes?” Kai said, pulling away from the hug to look down at Arthur who was slowly recovering from the slap.
“What’re you doing here?” Nicolas asked.
“It’s your birthday! We came to surprise you.” He said with a wide grin.
“I can’t believe you bitch slapped me.” Arthur groaned getting you and punching Nicolas on the shoulder.
“It’s not my fault you yell like a dying cow.” He scowled while wrapping his arms around Kai and resting his head on his shoulder, his eyes closing.
“Leave.” He muttered to Arthur who scoffed.
“Happy birthday asshole. I’m staying in the guest room.” He shouted behind him as he left the room.
“Sleep.” Nicolas mumbled laying back down and dragging Kai with him.
“Nicolas?” Kai asked, resting his hand on Nicolas’s cheek.
“Hmm?”
“Happy birthday my love.” Kai whispered, kissing Nicolas on his lips.
Nicolas smiled into the kiss as he gripped Kai’s head and kissed him back just as hard, his tiredness slowly fading away.
“You’re the best person in my life.” Kai said, pulling away from the kiss.
“And you are the most precious person in my life.” Nicolas told him.
“I can’t even imagine my life without you. Losing you would be something I could never face.” Kai said, his words heavy.
“You’ll never have to face it because you won’t lose me.” Nicolas assuredly stroked Kai’s cheek.
“Falling in love with you was the best thing that has ever happened to me.” Kai whispered in the darkness.
Kai was so glad to be falling for him every day and he hoped he would never stop falling in love with his Nicolas.
“Being able to love you is my greatest blessing.” Nicolas said and left another featherlight kiss on his baby’s soft pink lips.
“Do you promise to love me forever?”
“I promise.”
Hi guys! This is the last chapter before the epilogue!! I honestly don’t know if I wrote it well. I don’t know how to feel about this but I promise that I will do my best so that the epilogue will be better than this.
