The full days passed until Evie was able to see Taylor again. Usually, Evie enjoyed her days off but not this time. The more she thought about it, the more she just wanted to ignore the situation again. Just how Taylor ignored it, which confirmed Evie’s assumption that she was seeing someone else. Taylor had texted her multiple times if she was okay but Evie didn’t know what that had referred to.
They arrived in Boston, Massachusetts on a show day. Evie only had time to check in to her hotel room, take a 15-minute power nap until she headed to the stadium which was luckily only a short drive away. She got herself ready and held an inner monologue of what she should say to Taylor. Ideally, she wanted to talk to her in a more private setting but there was no way she wanted to go another day without clearing the air between them. Once she was ready, she left her dressing room to meet Taylor in her’s even though Taylor usually visited her before each show. On her way there, she hoped that Taylor was already at the stadium. She was always early but Evie feared that she couldn’t be that day as they had just arrived this morning. But Evie was lucky. Before she could even reach Taylor’s dressing room down the hallway, Taylor ran into her as she returned from the bathroom. She wore a black sports skirt and a tight black shirt and looked effortlessly pretty as always. “Hi, good to see you. Wouldn’t you mind if we talk for a sec?”, Evie greeted Taylor and tried her best to appear confident. “Sure.”, Taylor agreed and they entered the room to be on their own. Taylor sat down on the little bench in front of the dressing table and Evie sat down on the little couch next to it.
“Do we talk about what happened in New York?”, Taylor started conversation and gave Evie the opportunity to start her monologue which she had prepared and rehearsed over and over again. “Yeah. Listen…Let’s forget that it happened. I mean, we were both drunk, and we were writing this love song and I don’t know what happened but it probably gave me some kind of flashbacks of the time I started writing it and was crushing on this guy…maybe that’s why I longed for some touch from any person in general. But yeah, it was silly so let’s just forget it.”. Evie was surprised how believable and determined she sounded. She looked into Taylor’s eyes while speaking but she had to concentrate so much about her worlds that she didn’t really read her expression. There was a short moment of silence afterwards and Evie was almost about to keep talking just to fill this awkward moment between them. “We were really drunk,” Taylor suddenly said, “but yeah…I guess it’s good that we settled it.”. She added a casual laugh and abruptly stood up, turned away from her for some seconds to get something out of her bag. „Here.”. Talyor turned around and gave Evie the book she had borrowed her. Her expression was not as joyful as usual before a show but she still wore a tiny smile on her lips. “I just finished it on the flight. Make sure to borrow me the one you’re currently reading once you’re finished. I can rely on your book taste the most.”. And that was it. Taylor had jumped to the next topic, the kiss forgotten and everything seemed to be fine on a surface level. But nothing was fine. On the one hand, Evie was relieved that they were still friends and that Taylor didn’t act weird around her after Evie had kissed her. But on the other hand, she felt empty. She wanted more from Taylor but had to be satisfied with being her friend. But how was Evie supposed to be satisfied when she knew the taste of Taylor’s lips?
